No-Bake CHocolate-Bottom Pumpkin Tart

No-Bake Chocolate-Bottom Pumpkin Tart
Serves 8

Harry, Ron, and Hermione can hardly wait for the pumpkin tart to be cleared away so they can rush over to Hagrid and congratulate him on his new position as Care of Magical Creatures teacher. Now that his name has finally been cleared, thanks to our dauntless trio, Hagrid is a qualified wizard and can fulfill his lifelong dream to teach (see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 5).
Most people associate pumpkin with pie, but the tart is a close relative. The only difference is that tarts are shallower than pies with straight rather than flared sides and use a richer dough than standard pie crusts.
Tart Dough
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
3/4 stick (6 tablespoons) cold butter or margarine, cut into pieces
1 large egg yolk
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
Chocolate Bottom
1/2 cup heavy cream
4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
Pumpkin Filling
1½ cups canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1½ ounces bittersweet chocolate, melted, for drizzling, if desired
To make the dough, place the flour, salt, and sugar in the bowl of a food processor and pulse a few times to combine. Scatter the butter pieces over the flour and pulse about 15 times until the mixture resembles coarse yellow meal. Transfer the mixture to a large mixing bowl.
Whisk together the egg yolk, cream, and vanilla and pour over the flour mixture. Toss with a rubber spatula until the dough begins to stick together. Knead very briefly to form a cohesive mass and form into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 2 hours or up to 3 days.
Preheat the oven to 425°F. On a generously floured surface, roll out the disk (make sure you flour the top of the disk as well) to an 11-inch circle. Tart dough is hard to roll out, but this is a very forgiving dough, especially if you use margarine in place of the butter. Simply gather up the torn dough, re-flour the work surface, briefly knead the dough into a ball, and roll it out again. Fit the dough into a 9-inch tart pan. If the dough breaks, you can patch it by gluing extra scraps with a bit of water. Prick the bottom of the shell with a fork, line with aluminum foil, and fill with beans or pie weights. Bake for 20 minutes or until the dough is dry and set. Remove the foil and weights, reduce the heat to 350°F, and bake another 7 to 10 minutes until the crust is golden brown. Remove from the oven to cool.
To make the chocolate bottom, place the cream and chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 2 minutes, stopping to stir every 30 seconds. Stir until smooth and pour into the bottom of the tart shell. Cool until set.
To make the filling, combine the pumpkin, sugar, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, and heavy cream in a medium saucepan and cook, stirring frequently, until hot but not bubbling. Whisk the eggs with the cornstarch and add to the pan. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbling. Remove from the heat. Cool to room temperature.
Pour the cooled filling into the tart shell and smooth the top with a rubber spatula. If desired, drizzle melted chocolate on top. Refrigerate until firm.

Blood Moon--Full Moon in Scorpio

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Blood Moon

The Full Moon in October is often called the Hunter's Moon. During
ancient times, hunters were respected as the tribe's life-givers for
they supplied the food. In Britain, Herne the Hunter is a deity of the
"Dark Forest." Lord of the woodland and its animals, Herne oversees all of nature and the results of fertility for both the natural world and men. Herne, described as a large, virile man crowned with the antlers of a stag and purportedly wears furs and carries a wooden bow, is often accompanied by a pack of hunting dogs.

As our nights grow noticeably longer and autumn commences, consider working with Herne for courage and the ability to "hunt down" your path in life. His wisdom is vast, and, if you listen, he can help you find your way while traveling along your own magical path, even in the darkest of times.

"As the Hunter's Moon lights up the October sky,
Herne protect me, the dark time of the year is nigh,
Help me to find my own path, and to gain knowledge true,
May I walk with wisdom and strength in all that I do."

The subject line is misleading--the Full Moon is actually in Aries.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - October 22

"Growth is a painful process."

-- Wilma Mankiller, CHEROKEE

Whenever we grow, we usually need to let go of emotional attachments. Letting go can be painful. Sometimes growth allows us to deal with fear. All fear can fit into two categories: one, we're going to lose something we have, and two, we're not going to get something we want. Both of these categories can cause pain. The best way to grow is to pray to the Great Spirit and ask Him to guide and protect us. All growth is guided by God.

My Creator, guide my growth today and give me Your love and courage to help my pain.

WELL worth going and hearing them if you can do so an their music is
fantastic. *innocent look* No, I'm not at all biased just because one of
them is the son of an Elder priest in my Tradition :D Seriously, they're
very good, perhaps some of the best in the business. If you can't see them,
then definitely look into buying the CDs.

Bio-Buzz Samhain Ritual and Celebration

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Fri Oct 22, 2010 2:59 pm (PDT)

Saturday night, October 30, Bio-Buzz is hosting a Samhain
celebration! Join us at 7:00 pm (Eastern time) or anytime thereafter;
the ritual will begin at 10:30 pm. We will have punch
(non-alcoholic); please bring snacks to share, and whatever other
beverages you'd like (no drinking by minors!).

Other: Feel free to come in costume! You should bring a chair, as we
don't have very many, and any toys or fun things, like hoops or poi.
Dress warm, as the heat is a bit sporadic, and we'll probably do the
ritual outside. Please don't bring dogs, as Stephen is allergic to them.

There is crash space available, but you will need to bring your own
mattress (very hard floors), blankets (not much heat inside), and
pillows. If you plan to stay overnight, please let us know so we can
plan for it. Please don't drink and drive!

Location is 526 Pine Avenue, Albany, GA 31701 (note: this is NOT the
main Bio-Buzz store!). Email if you need more specific directions.
Please park in back and enter through the front. Don't mind the chickens.

If you have questions, call Stephen at 229-395-0963.

Chickscope Embryology: The 21-day Chick Lifecyle

"How does an egg develop from the time it is laid to the time it hatches" is a question all students should find interesting. Chickscope is a 'collaborative project between researchers and educators at the University of Illinois and Central Illinois school teachers' who invite the public to "explore with us the fascinating 21-day life cycle of the embryological chick." Visitors can follow the developmental process and see the day-to-day changes in the embryo with details listed beginning at conception through the hatching process. If you get ambitious, instructions for building your own incubator are available as well as an EggMath section mind you, not your usual New Math! Don't miss the Chickscope Roosts developed by the project scientists who 'had online forums where they answered student questions. These forums were referred to as "roosts".' To quote these professionals, "We cannot keep a good idea all couped up;' their individual roosts are as interesting as the main Chickscope page!

Subject: FW: FW: And then the fight started.......

It all began with an iPhone...
March was when my son celebrated his 15th birthday, and I got him
an iPhone.
He just loved it. Who wouldn't?

I celebrated my birthday in July, and my wife made me very happy
when

she bought me an iPad.

My daughter's birthday was in August so I got her an iPod Touch.

September came by so for her birthday i got my wife an iRon.

It was around then that the fight started......

What the wife failed to recognise is that the iRon can be integrated
into the home network with the iWash, iCook and iClean.
This inevitably activates the iNag reminder service
