Interconnected Experiences
Noticing Synchronicity
Synchronicity may appear random, but at closer look you will see that the
universe is giving what you asked for.
When events appear to fit together perfectly in our lives it may seem at first
that they are random occurrences, things that are the result of coincidence.
These synchronous happenings, though, are much more than that, for, if we look
at them more closely they can show us that the universe is listening to us and
gently communicating with us. Learning to pay attention to and link the things
that occur on a daily basis can be a way for us to become more attuned to the
fact that most everything happens in our lives for a reason â€" even when that
reason is not clear right away.
When we realize that things often go more smoothly than we can ever imagine, it
allows us to take the time to reflect on the patterns in our lives. Even events
that might not at first seem to be related to each other are indicators that the
universe is working with, not against, us. This idea of synchronicity, then,
means that we have to trust there is more to our lives than what we experience
on a physical level. We need to be willing to look more closely at the bigger
picture, accepting and having confidence in the fact that there is more to our
experiences than immediately meets the eye. Being open to synchronicity also
means that we have to understand that our lives are filled with both positive
and negative events. Once we can recognize that one event is neither more
desirable nor better than the other â€" they all have an overall purpose in our
lives - then we are truly ready to listen to the messages the universe gives us.
While we may not be able to see everything in our lives as being synchronous, we
can certainly use hindsight to be more aware of how the universe guides us. This
sense of wonder at the mysteries of the universe and the interconnectedness
present in our lives will help us see our overall ways of being and will in turn
make it easier to work more consciously towards our spiritual evolution.

ORE'S FEATURED GEMSTONE: Smoky Quartz

Smoky Quartz appears to be a Quartz crystal that has cloaked its clear heart
in a shroud of mystery. Even with today's sophisticated technologies a number
of different texts offer an equally different number of explanations into what
causes the pale to rich dark brown colors of the Smoky Quartz.
One point all geologists seem to agree on is that the smoky tinting of a clear
Quartz crystal is caused by some form of natural radioactivity. From there
opinions begin to divide over whether it is Aluminum, Nitrogen, Lithium,
Carbon, organic matter (or none of the above) within the Quartz that has been
exposed to radiation. My personal suspicion is that everyone is right.
Clear Quartz can be "smoked" manually by hitting it with gamma radiation in a
reactor. This manufactured Smoky Quartz is almost a perfect black color.
Natural Smoky Quartz can be a very pale topaz to a dark black brown. The
darkest natural pieces have a special trade name, Morion. Crystals can be zoned
(have areas of different colors), contain phantoms, inclusions, enhydros and
terminate into a vast variation of points and twins.
All this variety may mean that sometimes plain clear Quartz are naturally
radiated into Smoky crystals and sometimes Quartz specimens with minerals like
Aluminum, Nitrogen, Lithium, Carbon or even organic matter inside are radiated
into Smoky Quartz.
The color in a Smoky Quartz crystal is not stable and can be easily altered
through heating. Even man-made smoky specimens can be turned clear again simply
by exposing the crystals to high temperatures.
As a crystal, Smoky Quartz forms in much the same ways as clear Quartz; in
pegmatites, vugs and geodes. However Smoky crystals have a few unique
tendencies of their own. Two highly sought after examples of these unique
terminations are the Smoky Quartz specimens known as an elestial and skeletal.
Elestials are a type of mass terminations along the face of a single crystal.
The terminations are layered on the surface of the crystal in a sort of stair
stepped fashion. While clear and milky Quartz do form elestial crystals, it is
much more common among the Smoky relatives.
Skeletal Smoky Quartz resembles an elestial crystal on the outside, however on
the inside is where the excitement is. The skeletal Crystal is hollow and will
frequently contained trapped gases (such as Carbon Dioxide), water and even
organic material. In clear, high grade specimens you can actually see the
movement of the skeletal's contents. Geologists refer to these type of crystals
as enhydros.
Various regions of the ancient world developed a distinct fondness for the
mysterious Smoky Quartz. In Scotland, where it is the National Gemstone, they
gave the crystal their own name, Cairngorm. The Cairngorm Mountains in Scotland
are still famous for the beautiful pieces of Smoky Quartz found there. A large
point sits on the country's national scepter. The court spiritualist for Queen
Elizabeth I was known to use a large Smoky Quartz crystal ball.
The Swiss Alps are famous for their large crystals. A small mountain village
called Goschenen exhibits one of the giant specimens in their small museum.
They tell the story of a local mountaineer that gave his life to bring a 397
pound Smoky Quartz crystal down from the mountains through snow and frigid
cold. Though he managed to get the massive Quartz home, he never recovered from
his super human effort.
Besides Scotland and the Alps, gem quality Smoky Quartz is also found in the US,
Sri Lanka, Brazil, Canada and Spain.
Early European cultures believed strongly in the Smoky Quartz protective
energies. Soldiers were known to carry the gem into battle. Christians in
Europe today still cherish crucifixes carved from taupe colored Quartz.
All Quartz is effective at creating protective shields, however Smoky Quartz
can shield you from both outer and inner harmful energies. Protecting you from
yourself. This gem encourages a stable environment allowing you to feel more
secure and safe in your surroundings.
The crystal is extremely useful in meditation and trance work. It assists in
maintaining a grounding point and helps to dissolve away distracting, worrisome
thoughts so that you achieve your beta state sooner. Smoky Quartz allows you to
accept information received during your work without imposing your own personal
will and personality onto it.
If you live a high demand lifestyle with a stressful job and an active social
life, Smoky Quartz makes a very supportive companion. The crystal builds your
resistance to stress so that you are more able to cope and get the job done. It
helps you to meet life's challenges with a spirited heart eager to overcome and
triumph. This gem gives you the ability to separate what really matters from
the junk in your life, allowing you to live more efficiently and with greater
joy.
Business owners may find carrying a Smoky Quartz on buying trips will improve
over all sales. This crystal will help you think more creatively about your

Healers may find that laying a Smoky Quartz crystal on an afflicted area will
bring relief from pain. This is especially true for women suffering from
menstrual cramps. It may also provide healing for some back injuries,
especially muscle spasms. Many believe it will provide protection against the
physical effects of radiation and possibly reverse damage done.
Smoky Quartz greatest health benefit may come from its ability to promote a
stress free approach to life. A healthy, happy mind helps to create a
healthier, happier body.

the windowpanes. A warm home is security against the winter weather to come.
Now is the time to set a soup to simmer on the stove. As you gather the
ingredients, think about the health and welfare of your loved ones. When the
stock is ready, stir deosil (clockwise) and add vegetables, one at a time.
Enchant the soup as you stir by saying, “I stir this brew with loving care to
keep my family well. The gifts of the earth will keep us strong.â€

The witches decorating homes and offices during this season are caricatures of
the crone, the elder woman who represents the third part of the sacred family
trinity. In Greek times, the triad of maiden-mother-crone was composed of the
spring maiden Goddess Persephone, also known as Kore or Proserpina; the corn
mother Demeter; and the dark Goddess Hecate, who walked through the highways
with her baying hounds, making magick and mischief.
She was honored with offerings placed at crossroads where three roads met, for
which the Romans called her Trivia. Hecate suppers were also held at the dark
of the moon, when she was thought to walk the world. Hers was the wisdom that
comes in darkness, in pain, in suffering, in dreams. Thus her wisdom is
available to all, though few embrace it.

Court the Wild: Find Your Secret Spot in Nature

Courting the wild--spending one to two hours each day in nature--is the
author's suggestion for how to remain sane and grounded in a stressful
world; as a way to continually expand our compassion for all life. He
suggest that by courting the wild we might be influenced by a beautiful
and powerful force that moves us to live according to our values and
visions. We can do this by finding our own "secret spot" as a place to
begin learning about nature.
There is a magical, wild place near your home, accessible by foot,
pedal, or bus; an undomesticated corner passed over and for now
forgotten, where you can take time regularly to learn from nature. What
draws your attention? Court the wild with these ideas to help you find
and experience your secret spot:
The idea is this: you locate a spot in nature that invites you in. Then
you return for an hour each day for a year. It is best if the spot is
close to home so you can cycle or walk there. Are you wondering, "What
am I going to do for an hour in the same spot every day?"
You can sit quietly and observe what's going on. Your hearing or sense
of smell might heighten if you close your eyes. Try taking ten minutes
to focus on each sense: sounds, sights, smells, touch and intuition.
While you sit quietly, what birds come in? What animal tracks, webs or
feathers arrived since yesterday? What interactions between species do
you notice? How do you feel in relation to this place? Maybe you want to
let go of thoughts, plans, and worries and remain present to each
passing moment.
You can keep a journal, write poems and stories, or make detailed
observations. Draw a map of a 20' by 20' area; learn every plant and
animal there.

FARSIDE SOLAR FLARES: An active region just over the sun's eastern horizon is
crackling with solar flares and hurling material high above the stellar
surface. One of today's flares, a C4-class event, created a wave of ionization
in Earth's upper atmosphere despite the fact that the blast site was not
directly visible from Earth. The source of this activity appears to be old
sunspot 1112, which has spent the last ~12 days transiting the far side of the

COMET HARTLEY UPDATE: NASA's Deep Impact (EPOXI) probe is closing in on Comet
Hartley 2 for a daring flyby on Nov. 4th. The small but active comet is full of
surprises, with spinning jets, geysers of cyanide gas, and a strangely
pickle-shaped core. Mission scientists expect to reveal first images from the
flyby during a press conference on Thursday afternoon, around 4 pm EDT. Tune
