Ocean Seminary College is proud to confer onto Rev. Karen Tate the
Doctorate of Ministry (h.c.) in honor of her significant contributions
to the field of thealogy and deasophy. Her diverse body of work has
supported the continued presence of the Sacred Feminine within academic
religious discourses, while it has nourished the religious lives of
women (and men). Ensuring that the presence of the Sacred Feminine and
the honoring of women more broadly continues to be fostered, Rev. Tate
has tirelessly utilized a rich array of avenues to communicate these
messages to enormous accomplishment.
She is the author of Sacred Places of Goddess: 108 Destinations and the
acclaimed book, Walking An Ancient Path, Rebirthing Goddess on Planet
Earth, which was a finalist in the National Best Books Awards of 2008 by
USA Book News. She is a contributing author to a wide range of
publications, including The Beltane Papers, The Examiner, Sacred History
Magazine, Mystic Pop and Circle News. In addition to bringing home the
Goddess through her written work, she has brought many men and women
directly to the Goddess through her ministerial work and her sacred
tours. Through her tour work, she resituates the Goddess in our
historical experiences and reminds the modern woman and man that the
Sacred Feminine is part of our heritage and our spiritual inheritance.
Rev. Tate is an active lecturer at both academic institutions and
spiritual organizations and is the host of the radio program, Voices of
the Sacred Feminine. She is presently transitioning into developing
film/television projects to further cultural awareness of the Sacred
Feminine and provide even greater access for men and women seeking the
Goddess.
Over the past twenty years, Rev. Tate has consistently demonstrated the
intellectual, social, ministerial and environmental goals of the
Thealogical Studies Program and it is with great pleasure that we grant
her a doctorate in Thealogical Studies.

About Chihnu: In China and surrounding regions, Chihnu's name means "weaving woman." According to myths, Chihnu's talents in this art are so great that she can weave seamless garments for the gods. From her heavenly domain in the constellation Lyre, she acts like a refreshing spring wind to inspire excellence in our inherited arts and crafts.
To Do Today: This annual Thai festival features folk dancing and traditional handicrafts in honor of Buddha's footprint, which is enshrined nearby. Generally, it is a time to rejoice in Thai tradition, so if you have a Thai restaurant in the neighborhood, by all means indulge yourself, saying a brief prayer of thanks to the provider of your feast-Chihnu.
To make a Chihnu-inspired creativity charm, take three strands of yellow thread or yarn (yellow is the color of inventiveness). Braid these together so that the strands cross four rimes, saying,
One, Chihnu's power absorbs;
two, inside the magic's stored;
three, the magic's alive in me;
four, bear Chihnu's creativity!
Carry this when you need more ingenious energy, or leave it near your artistic endeavors so they can absorb Chihnu's compelling excellence.

Isis Crystal Ball Divination
Incense of the day: Lilac
Today is a day of Isis, Moon mother and mother of the sea. Use her symbols
respectfully to pay tribute to her and to conjure her spirit. Draw a
bath. Add a half cup each of Epsom salt, coarse and fine Dead Sea salt.
Wear on a piece of moonstone on a ring, necklace, anklet, or bracelet.
Light a blue candle, and place it on a fireproof container near the
bathtub. Bring a crystal ball with you into the bath. Gaze at the candle as you breathe deeply and very slowly until you are very relaxed.
Realize that you are bathing in the incense of Isis. Call her name
quietly and deliberately, drawing it out like a snake's hiss: "I-sis,
I-sis, I-sis." Breathe in, and with the exhale whisper "I-sis" for about five minutes. Lift up the crystal ball once you feel the spirit of Isis with you in the room. Hold the ball in front of the candle flame and
gaze for a few minutes. See what is in store as you divine by scrying
both fire and crystal.

At first there was nothing. The there was a void, which
was more than nothing. Then there was the earth our
home, like a woman with ample breasts, solid and deep.
Then there came love, which is among all things the
most beautiful, for it softens all of us and leads us into
dalliance and play and joy where otherwise would be all
prudent work and somber labor. Then earth surrounded
herself with sky and labored to produce high mountains
and the surging sea, while the void gave birth to darkness
and night. And the void fell in love with night and they,
together, conceived. Their children: light and day,
children of the dark.

After the void comes to life, and life comes with love. So the ancients tell us, in myth after myth. Much wisdom resides in these ancient stories, which employ magnificent images to show us the realities of our world.
In one of the most ancient Greek stories of creation, light is born of darkness and the void. The void is sister of the earth, which supports and sustains us. The earth can produce without assistance, so fertile is she. But the void must first express its darkest side and accept that with love. Only then can light burst forth.
There are lessons in the dark times as well as in those filled with light. What darkness within does winter make you fear? Why not embrace all the parts of yourself, the apparently negative as well as the beaming goodness? Why can you not love yourself, just as you are?

The 92-year-old,
petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably coifed and makeup perfectly
applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home
today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move
necessary.
After many hours of
waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly
when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the
elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including
the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window.
"I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.
"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room .... just wait."
"That doesn't have
anything to do with it," she replied. Happiness is something you decide
on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how
the furniture is arranged...it's how I arrange my mind. I already
decided to love it." "It's a decision I make every morning when I wake
up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the
difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get
out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do. Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new day and all the happy
memories I've stored away ... just for this time in my life. "
Old age is like a bank
account ... you withdraw from what you've put in ... So, my advice to
you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of
memories. Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank. I am still
depositing. Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.
FAMILY
Are you aware
that if we died tomorrow, the company that we are working for could
easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family we left behind
will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.
And come to think of
it, we pour ourselves more into work than into our own family, an unwise investment indeed, don't you think?

Belly dance is an ancient and beautiful dance form, and is a wonderful way to combine aerobic activity with attaining increased muscle strength and
flexibility, and improved posture and coordination. In this six session
course, we will focus on basic and intermediate dance movements and
isolations, and their use in choreography, as we familiarize ourselves
with Middle Eastern music and its varied rhythms. Wear comfortable
clothing that allows flexibility of movement; bring a hip scarf if you
have one; no experience necessary. Hip scarves in many styles, colors,
and price ranges are available for purchase at Off the Beaten Path.
Beginners, as well as those who have taken Raushanna's class before, are welcome to join us for this new dance routine.

We will be supporting 2 charities on April 16. We
want to raise funds for One Spirit on behalf of The Pine Ridge Reservation of
Native American Indians living in South Dakota.

and homeless children on the reservation. It's hard to believe there are
communities so poor right here in the United States.

cancers. I'm sure all of us can relate in some way to this. I've lost my mom and
dad to these dreaded diseases. Luckily my sister is a survivor.

great feeling to give from your hearts and help people.
Together over the
last 5 years and 14 DRUMS from HEAVEN events we have raised $31,000. for a
variety of worthy charities.

of making your very own Earth Day Drums from Heaven shakers. Please bring a
sturdy plastic bottle or small container that you can decorate on site and take
home as a wonderful keepsake from our celebration.
