Bardic Workshop - Melbourne April 15 2011

Wed Mar 9, 2011 4:18 pm (PST)

In
The House of The Baba Yaga--A Bardic Workshop With John Brazaitis

Friday
April 15 2011
Doors
Open: 7pm
Workshop Start Time: 7:30pm  -  Finishing Time: 10pm

@
Brunswick North West Primary School Hall
Culloden
Street (cnr Wales), West Brunswick (Melbourne)
(Parking
Available in Culloden & Wales Streets or Catch No. 55 'West
Coburg' Tram)

Join us for an
evening workshop exploring the rich tradition of story, myth and
magick. We'll be looking into how oral traditions differ from modern
print traditions, what these traditions can tell us about the peoples
who created them, the quirks by which the stories themselves came
down to us, and how to work with and interpret the often problematic
nature of traditional material.

This presentation is
not intended to be a dry academic exposition, but rather we'll let
the stories themselves take centre stage. We'll be working primarily
with material from Northern and Eastern Europe, whose ancient roots
can be traced back to the Grandmother of Time herself, with more
modern additions being provided by the many and varied peoples who
travelled the Amber and silk roads.

This workshop is
intended to be access able and enjoyable for all ages and levels of
experience.

John Brazaitis is
a long-time Pagan teacher in the Reclaiming tradition. He is a noted
storyteller of international reputation, who began learning old
stories from his family as a child. He has spent most of his life in
the American midwest, where he currently lives, working as a
beekeeper.

Workshop price: $ 20 Full or $15 concession

Please bring a plate
of vegetarian food to share for supper. Tea and coffee provided.
Please also bring
your own cushion/s to sit on and a journal and pens for taking notes.
