Feng Shui Tip of the Day

Daily Feng Shui Tip by Ellen Whitehurst for Tuesday, July 12
The energies of an entire day devoted to pecan pie are oh so sweet. But on this 'Pecan Pie Day' why stop at the gooiness of pie when you can stay within these same energies by eating pecan cake or pralines, pecan butter or ice cream? Indulge on this day and you could also see a little extra cash, since pecans are believed to bring a sweet boost to your bottom line. Pecans are also said to help you keep your job and, let's face it, in these times, any pecan in the pie, so to speak. To ensure your employment, shell a handful of pecans and slowly eat them while visualizing a new you who is gainfully and happily employed. Wrap the shells in a small bag and put them somewhere at your current place of employment where they won't be noticed or removed. This is one tasty Feng Shui way to ensure that you're not removed as well. Next stop, the Executive Sweet. Um, I mean, Suite!
The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.

The Gratuitous "Deathly Hallows Part 2" Post

The Gratuitous "Deathly Hallows Part 2" Post
By Patti Wigington, About.com Guide July 10, 2011
I'd be totally remiss if I didn't mention that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 opens this weekend -- and yes, I do have my tickets in hand! Someone tell Jason Isaacs I'm free if he wants to share popcorn with me.
I have to say, it's been a long time since I was this excited about going to a movie. JK Rowling has managed to create a universe that truly is magical, in every sense of the word, and I'm going to miss watching the adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione come to life on the big screen. The final film will mark the end of an era for many of us - and for an entire generation of kids my daughter's age, who have literally grown up with Harry.
When the books first came out, there was - as one might expect - some backlash from the Christian right, worried that these Simply Awful Stories might draw children to the dark side. Kids were clearly going to be corrupted by images of terrible, evil themes -- rather than themes like friendship, loyalty, and love. The Columbus Dispatch ran a great piece this week discussing the change in perspective from evangelical leaders, many of whom acknowledge now that they were wrong about Harry -- and that the books and films do in fact promote positive things.
Annie Ruefle, a librarian at a Catholic school in Columbus, says, ""There are witches and wizards in the books, but the books are really about love and forgiveness and friendship and redemption, which I think is a mainstay of most religions."
Regardless of religious background, I know millions of us will be turning out in full force at midnight to watch the final battle between good and evil. And at least for those two hours, we'll all set aside any differences, and sit together in the dark to enjoy the magic one final time.

Butterbeer: How The Harry Potter Beverage Was Made Real
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99

Butterbeer: How The Harry Potter Beverage Was Made Real
By now, even the dimmest of Muggles knows that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a smashing success. Ever since this theme-park-within-a-theme-park opened at Islands of Adventure at the Universal Orlando Resort, people have been raving about the "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" attraction as well as Hogsmeade's highly-themed shops & restaurants.
But when you get right down to it, what's the most successful aspect of The Wizarding World? "Forbidden Journey"'s state-of-the-art ride system? The dazzling effects that theme park visitors experience whenever they visit Ollivander's wand shop? Or -- for that matter -- the overall look of Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade Village. Which make you feel as though you've stepped inside one of the "Harry Potter" movie?
And the answer is... none of the above. Based on surveys that UOR employees have done, the greatest Guest Satisfier in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, that piece-of-the-magic that people most wish that they could take home and share with friends & family... is a beverage. Butterbeer, to be precise.
HARRY POTTER, characters, names and related indicia are trademarks of and © Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. Harry Potter Publishing Rights © JKR. © 2011 Universal Orlando Resort. All rights reserved.
Which just thrills Chef Steven Jayson, Vice President and Corporate Executive Chef for Universal Parks & Resorts. Given that he and his team labored for nearly three years to come up with a workable real-world recipe for this magical, mythical brew.
You see, that's the real problem with this particular beverage. Though Butterbeer is repeatedly mentioned in the seven Harry Potter books and the eight HP films, the favored ale of witches & wizards everywhere doesn't actually exist. So -- in essence -- Jayson & Co. had to conjure up some Butterbeer. Deliver a drink that would appeal to hardcore Harry Potter fans as well as members of the general public. Not to mention meet the exacting standards of series creator J. K. Rowling.
The research started early. Steven and his team made a trip to Scotland in July of 2008. Both to meet with Harry Potter's author as well as to tour the various environs that had allegedly inspired J.K. (which included Edinburgh's Hogs Head Pub). During that trip, Jayson reportedly quizzed Rowling in regards to Butterbeer. Trying to get this author's exact thoughts on this imaginary ale.
And Steven... He has supposedly done his homework prior to meeting with J.K. Carefully combing through all of the Harry Potter books, looking for any and all references to Butterbeer.
Mind you, given that this beverage was going to be served in a family-friendly theme park, one aspect of this beverage (i.e. according to the Harry Potter books, quaffing this ale can give you a bit of a buzz) had to be dropped right off the bat. Furthermore, because Universal Orlando wanted as many guests as possible to be able to sample this brew (and that included the lactose intolerant), there could be no butter, or dairy products of any kind, in Butterbeer.
J.K. allegedly agreed to these terms as Steven laid them out, but then added a few of her own. Chief among these was that -- because Rowling believed that corn syrup was about to become the next trans-fat (i.e. the ingredient that people now deliberately avoid whenever they're making their food choices). Which is why she insisted that Butterbeer be made with real sugar.
So with this info in hand, Jayson and his team returned to the States and then retreated to Universal Orlando's test kitchens. Where these would-be culinary wizards then attempted to conjure up some Butterbeer.
"This was a pretty daunting situation," Steven recalled during an interview which he gave during the Wizarding World's grand opening press event back in June of 2010. "We wanted to take what Harry Potter fans had read in the books and seen in the movies and bring it to life. We knew that people's expectations were going to be very high. What's more, we had to create a beverage that was good for all ages."
Jayson and his crew of cooks then supposedly spent three to four months trying to perfect Universal Orlando's version of Butterbeer. Company insiders told me that it took 15 to 16 tries before Steve finally got something that he was happy with.
Why 15 or 16 tries? As Jayson explained at The Wizarding World's grand opening event:
"We experimented with all sorts of flavors. It took a while to get the flavor right where it needed to be. So it wasn't too sweet. That it had this great comfortable feeling going down."
And then -- after running this prototype by his bosses at Universal Orlando and then getting their tentative approval -- it was time to see if Rowling herself would actually sign off on this version of Butterbeer. So they packed up all of the necessary ingredients ("Which was something of a challenge," Mark Woodbury, Head of Universal Creative jokingly told me at this theme-park-within-a-theme-park' s opening press event, "Getting all of that stuff past the Department of Homeland Security") and then flew them over to the U.K.
Once there, Jayson and his team rented space in a kitchen in an Edinburgh hotel. To give J.K. a variety of beverages to choose from, they allegedly whipped up four variations on their Butterbeer formula along with the version that UOR officials were hoping the author would pick. Then Jayson's boss -- Richard Florell, Universal's senior vice president in charge of Food & Beverages -- carried that tray of drinks into Ms. Rowling.
And then J.K. carefully sampled all five glasses. And upon arriving at the real glass of Butterbeer, Rowling reportedly took one sip and then reportedly broke into a big smile, saying "Yes, Chef. That's it."
So Steve and his team had gotten the approval of the notoriously-hard-to-please J.K. But what about Harry Potter's fans and the general public? Would they too respond favorably to Universal Orlando's home-brewed version of Butterbeer.
The answer to that question came during the soft opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. When the line of guests standing in front of the Butterbeer cart was almost as long as the one waiting to get into the "Forbidden Journey" attraction.
But even so, Universal Orlando officials never dreamed that Butterbeer would become this popular this fast with the public. With Islands of Adventure selling its millionth mug of the stuff by January of 2011, less than seven months after this theme-park-within-a-theme-park had first opened for business.

The Path of Most Resistance
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue Jul 12, 2011 8:36 pm (PDT)
Take the Path of MOST Resistance
Definition of insanity:
Doing the same things you've always done and expecting different results.
Here is the force you are fighting: You and your brain are creatures of habit. You simply talk yourself into taking the easy, low resistance and comfortable route. Like the pull of a rushing river, your unconscious habits continue to take you downstream in the wrong direction. To change your direction you will need to swim upstream, against the resistance of the rushing river, against your habitual tendency.
Low Resistance:
• Going along with the gossip
• Surrendering to peer pressure
• Saying yes to needless obligations
• Submitting to the crying demands of your children
• Starting your new program on "Monday" (instead of today)
• Reacting in anger
• Holding a grudge
• Giving the 'silent treatment'
High Resistance:
• Going to the gym when you don't feel like it
• Forgiving someone who wronged you
• Feeling the fear and doing it anyway
• Admitting you were wrong and apologizing
• Ordering the salad when you want the burger
• Saying no to (yet another) shot of tequila
• Calling that big, scary big prospect (again and again)
If you want to finally obtain what's missing from your life, you need to stop always doing what you feel like doing and start doing the things that make you uncomfortable, the stuff you avoid, and the things that you think are hard.
If you dedicate yourself to only doing the things you don't want to do, all day long, your results would shock and amaze you and everyone around you.
Make a list of the things you avoid, postpone and hate doing, but you know you should. If you attack those today, your life will change. What's uncomfortable is good. It only feels wrong at the start because you have an automatic bias toward the easy. Fight that tendency. Swim upstream. Take the path of most resistance.

Aromatherapy Tip

Simple Infusions
Now that the gardens are in full bloom here are two methods for making infused oils.
1. Put the flowers or herbs of your choice in a large pan with a lid. Add half their
volume of a good quality odorless vegetable oil.
Heat the pan with the lid on to 150 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature the cells containing the odoriferous molecules burst and these are taken up by the oil.
Strain and then bottle the oil.
These infused oils can be used on their own as a massage or bath oil or as a base for another product.
2.pack a jar tightly with your flowers or herbs. Cover with vegetable oil. Seal jar tightly and put
outside in the sun for a few weeks bringing it in at night. Strain and bottle the oil.

Your Furry Familiar
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99

Your Furry Familiar
Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you.
Mary Bly
Our dogs and cats add so much magick to our lives. The bond created when you add a pet into your life is unlike any other. To celebrate the bewitching relationship, let's explore the world of the magickal dog and the enchanted cat. Along our way we'll note a few of the many deities associated with our furry friends as well as touch on their fascinating history of magick and folklore, myth, and mythology.
The Magickal Dog
There will always be a touch of the wild in a dog. Interestingly, dogs are believed to be descended from Canis lupus--in other words, the wolf. Anyone who owns more than one dog quickly discovers that their dogs do have a pack mentality, just like the wolf. Today, the dog is classified as Canis familiaris, the domestic dog. And there are more breeds and varieties than you can shake a stick at. Or toss a stick to, as the case may be.
To begin, we have the deity associations for the dog. For the canine, there is the Egyptian, Anubis, the elegant, black, jackal-headed guardian of the gates of the underworld. There is also Wepwawet (variations on his name include Ap-uat, Upuaut, and Upwaut) was sometimes portrayed as steering the Sun's boat during its nighttime voyage across the sky. His role was thought to be a guide through the underworld and that he passed you off to Anubis, who stood guarding the gates as you went to leave to be reincarnated. Also there is a Slavic wolf/dog deity called Volos. Volos is a type of shapeshifter deity and sometimes he is depicted as a werewolf.
We also have the Greco-Roman triple goddess Hecate, who was always accompanied by her faithful red-eyed hounds. (It is also well known that dogs do sense when Hecate is near. This causes them to howl.) Then there is Diana, the goddess of the hunt and her faithful pack of hounds. Plus the Germanic Holda, another goddess of the wild hunt.
As to canine mythology, we have the dog-star Sirius. This star was called "as faithful as a dog," as it foretold the annual season of the Nile's flooding. There is Cerberus, the watchdog of the underworld, as well as many dog deities that tend to be linked to the light of the Sun, Moon, stars, and water. In mythologies from all over the world, dog deities were often linked to both the potency of men and the fecundity of women. In medieval times, dogs were more than companions, they were also bodyguards and ambassadors. Noblemen and women often traveled with their dogs and treated these animals very well--typically getting better care than the human servants.
In the old Celtic tradition, there were faery dogs called the Cu Sith, or Cu Sidhe (pronounced Coo-Shee). These massive dogs were part of the Faery Kingdom and could appear as large, green shaggy dogs, or they were also described as appearing as all black with glowing eyes, or the Cu Sidhe were sometimes described as sleek white hounds with red ears.
Dogs have always been associated with the underworld, the Moon, and the goddess of death and divination. For an example of this, refer to the classic Rider-Waite versions of the tarot card The Moon. This tarot card portrays a wolf and a dog. They are mirroring each other and both are howling at the Moon as it rises in the sky. Within the face of the Moon depicted on the card is the Crone aspect of the Goddess.
The dog in magickal tradition is thought to guard treasures, "hound" criminals, and protect the coven. In fact, a formal guardian of a coven and all its members is sometimes called "The Black Dog." Dogs are often recognized as the guardian of the mysteries for their loyalty, courage, and love.
The Bewitching Cat
Now, the cat and witchcraft have a long and colorful history. Some classic feline deities include the Egyptian cat-headed goddess Bast, or as she is sometimes called, Bastet. Bast was depicted as a beautiful woman with the head of a black cat. In statuary she is often a gorgeous sitting feline with earrings and a jeweled collar. Bast, a deity of fertility, sensuality, and grace, has always been a popular deity with cat fanciers. Then there is Sekhmet, the ferocious lion-headed goddess of war and of human fate. She was often portrayed as a beautiful black-skinned goddess with the head of a female lion. We also have the Norse goddess Freya. Freya was sometimes referred to as "the mistress of cats" and she was also a shape shifter. Freya traveled about in a chariot that was drawn by two large, gray, lynx-type of wildcats. Freye is a goddess of divination, witchcraft, and women's mysteries.
The feline has a connection to the enchanted world that is unlike any other. Cats also have an amazingly effective link to the realms of spirit, and the Fey. The next time your cat or cats fly about the house chasing and jumping around after "something," you can stop wondering what they are chasing. According to tradition, they are playing with the house spirits or the house faeries. All animals sense when the Fey are near, but cats seem to have a special working relationship.
There are also tales of a magickal and mythological cat, called the Cat Sidhe or Cait Sith (pronounced Cay-Shee). In Scottish folklore this is the faery cat that roams the Highlands. This cat is massive and black, with one white spot on its chest. Other types of faery cats included a winged, solid-white cat. This guardian spirit or a type of faery cat is thought to bring blessings and magick whenever it is most needed. You can also invoke the winged cat for protection to ward off nightmares and to help call a lost cat back home.
When it comes to feline mythology, we have many tales to choose from. It is interesting to note that the black cat in Elizabethan times was a symbol of benign magick, and that a brindled, yellow-brown, or gray cat was thought to bring bad luck. In modern times in the United Kingdom, a black cat is a positive omen, while a white cat is considered unlucky.
Conversely, in the United States a white cat is thought to be angelic, and the black cat is commonly associated with bad luck and misfortune. However, the black cat is not down on its luck. They are currently in vogue, especially at Halloween/Samhain and are making a comeback as a more popular shelter animal to adopt into loving homes--no matter what time of year. And as ever, the black cat is also a wildly popular choice as a pet with magicians, Pagans, and Witches everywhere.
This brings up the question--does the color of a cat truly affect its magick? No. It only fine-tunes it. Each type of cat has its own style of magick. For example, a tabby brings laughter, hearth and home, magick, and good luck no matter what shade of stripes they wear. Meanwhile, a feminine calico can be a symbol of the Triple Goddess--consider their three colors of white, orange-red, and black. Solid-white cats are often associated with the Fey, angels, and the spirit of the Cat Sith. Tortoiseshells are associated with women's magick, gray cats are sacred to Freya, and the buff, golden, or brown cat can be linked to solar magicks and to a royal and regal type of energy. Bicolor cats are thought to be the finest mousers and the best family pets according to feline folklore. However, no matter what color of enchanting cat you own, they can all make for loving pets and devoted familiars.
Your Canine or Feline Familiar
A familiar is classically defined as an animal (a pet) that shares a psychic connection with the Witch. A familiar is best described as a companion who helps the Witch cast spells and get in touch with his or her own magickal powers. Whether a cat or a dog, the familiar is in essence a magickal colleague, an ally, and a spirit helper in a physical animal form.
If you are wondering how to tell if your pet is your familiar, then you need to take a look at your current relationship with your pet. Do you share a loving bond? Do the two of you seem to have a psychic connection? Another great indicator is when your pet has a love for or interest in your magickal books and tools. A cat that is always nosing through your altar setup or trying to figure out how to get inside of your magickal cabinet ought to clue you in. A dog that stays at attention at the boundary of a circle, or who remains by your side whenever you study or work any magick is another sign. As for myself, I have noticed that cats who love to rub all over your magickal books and adores plopping down in the middle of your studies of magickal work are telling you they want to participate.
Bottom line: it is up to your pet, not you, whether or not they will become your familiar. They will let you know. Don't demand it of them. If it's meant to be, it will happen. Take the time to build a loving relationship with your pet and trust in the closeness of your bond. If you do that, chances are you and your enchanting pet will become fabulous magickal partners.

Charm Dolls: Magical Images

Charm Dolls: magical Images
Dolls have a far-reaching history of use in magic, as many of them started out as magical charms, and some of these charm dolls have come to be among different nations' folk heritage. (In this article, I use the term "dolls" and "figurines" interchangeably as miniature human images, though dolls tend to be used more for children's play, while figurines are usually meant more for display.) Knowing the magical lore of dolls, we can reacquaint ourselves with our old toys, with a new appreciation of their magical potentials.
When speaking of dolls in folk magic, many people think of "voodoo dolls" used in image magic (often called imitative magic), where the magic worker performs certain acts is also used in healing and well wishing. Because dolls are actually very seldom used in the practice of voudon, where initiates prefer to work more directly with spirits, modern magic workers prefer the archaic term "poppet," and the use of poppets does play a role in European folk magic, and magic worldwide. Some of the biggest enthusiasts of image magic were the ancient Babylonians, whose texts and other artifacts show that figurines were extensively used for cursing and countermagic, as well as for house charms. The Babylonians' concern with the magic of images also informed their monument-building projects, which have been among their major contributions to civilization, so it was interesting to see their modern descendants slapping downed statues of Saddam Hussein with their shoes when his regime fell in 2003.
Dolls and figurines have a historical role as votive objects, dating back to the Bronze Age and the Neolithic period. Votives are dedicated to the shrine of a god or goddess, either as a way of asking for or acknowledging the fulfillment of a wish. A votive in the shape of a person is also a way of offering that devotee's continued service to the deity, and because a votive figurine placed on or before an altar as the devotee's stand-in partakes in the atmosphere of sacredness, some of this spiritual force is transferred, sympathetically, to the person who has donated it. Votives are now enjoying a revival as altar dolls in Santeria and other Afro-Caribbean systems. Whether ordinary plastic dolls or specially crafted art dolls, they also serve as material avatars for the spirits/deities (often called orishas, Loas, etc.) to whom they are dedicated. Such dolls are richly and elaborately outfitted with the colors and other symbols of the deities, as a way of embodying some small part of the mysteries and the powers they represent. For example, a doll for Oshun, the orisha who bestows love and abundance, may be dressed in yellow and gold silk, brocade, and beads, with a little brass fan or peacock feathers, or other objects that convey Oshun's love of beauty and pleasure. Altar dolls are becoming ubiquitous in homes where Afro-Caribbean heritage is valued, and have created new opportunities for artisans as well as ordinary people to express their creativity.
Dolls are important as fertility charms, because when a woman desiring children carries a baby doll, it acts as a material affirmation of the fact that "I have a baby." We can appreciate both the psychological and metaphysical implications when we hear stories about childless couples who give up the attempt to conceive, so they go ahead and adopt children; soon after the adoption, the woman get pregnant. The use of fertility dolls is especially popular in Africa, and one special type, the Akua'ba, is recognized as one of Ghana's premier national art forms. These highly stylized wooden figures have smooth, flattened forms, often with rounded or oblong heads, and short, horizontal projections for arms. (This creates an outline that somewhat resembles the Egyptian ankh, the "cross of life." The flat shape makes it easy for women to tuck them into their sashes, so they can take them wherever they go (which is just a small part of their magical requirements). The Akua'ba's gracefulness of form is also supposed to bestow good looks and aesthetic sensibilities on any children who are produced, and also to little girls who may receive such dolls as toys to play with.
We also find fertility doll traditions throughout the rest of the world, as in many parts of Europe, where baby dolls might be given as gifts to brides, or tucked into the bridal bed, or affixed to the back of the car or carriage that conveys the couple to their new home. A current Polish practice is to drape a garland of tiny pink and blue dolls around the necks of the bride and groom. Also, because brides are lucky in their own right, their luck can be transferred to the wedding guests, and bridal dolls have similar powers. We see this in Puerto Rican weddings, where a bride doll is covered with capias, which are usually ribbon rosettes to which small charms may be attached; during the reception, the bride and groom thank their guests by presenting them with capias off the doll.
In Japan and China, dolls and other toys do triple duty: not just as playthings, but as lucky charms and conveyors of moral values. An example is tilting or tumbling dolls, also called roly-polies, which are rounded and weighted on the bottom, so that they right themselves if you push them over. These dolls teach Japanese children lessons about resilience, illustrating the saying that "If you fall down seven times, get up eight times." They have also been used as charms for rapid recovery from illness and misfortune. A unique type of roly-poly called the Daruma doll represents the unswerving determination of Bodhi Dharma, the master who brought Zen to Japan. One legend goes that Daruma spent so many years meditating while facing the wall of a cave, that he lost the use of his arms and legs. The Darumas are also put to magical tasks: many are sold without their eyes painted in, so you paint in one eye whle making a wish, and when your wish is granted, you paint in the other eye. (Some Darumas come with eye stickers for this purpose.) The same principle is applied to personal resolutions, such as a vow to complete a goal. Some other tilting dolls are similar in form to the Darumas, including a beautiful lady and the luck-beckoning cat (Manecki Neko). If you have some type of roly-poly toy, you can use it for self-enchantment at times when you have been slammed so badly by adversity that you are losing the will to keep going: sit before the toy and repeatedly push it over, as long as necessary, until something inside you moves you to get up and do something to help improve your condition.
Basically, any doll that you carry around or display in some special place because you have taken a fancy to it and like to touch it or look at it becomes a de facto charm doll. Your attraction to the doll means that it possesses some special quality that conveys ideals--often an expression of friendliness and openness that cheers you and makes you feel more optimistic. Cuteness and femininity do convey those values, though not everyone responds to the same kind of cuteness or femininity, and not all dolls are cute or feminine. Very small or miniature dolls are especially apt to be used as charms so one sees them hanging from rearview mirrors or clipped to purses or backpacks.
Carrying small dolls as bebes porte-bonheur (happiness/luck-conveying babies) is a French--especially Parisian--thing. The French have used a number of different dolls for this purpose, but during the First World War, tassel-like yarn dolls became the rage, and were made to bring luck and protection to loved ones. Actually, they were made in pairs, tied together, and in different colors for a boy and a girl named Rintintin and Nenette. This lucky pair became so popular that they were even featured in French postcards. In Romania and Bulgaria, miniature yarn dolls, one red and one white, sometimes dangle from a sort of friendship bracelet called a martisor or martinitsa. These red-and-white braided wool bracelets may feature various kinds of charms, and are given to friends on the first day of March. (The very popular Balkan custom hearkens back to ancient rises in honor of Mars, who was originally an agricultural deity presiding over the Green World's vitality and springtime renewal.) Part of the traditional definition of a fetish is that it is often handmade--and one of the charms of simple things like yarn dolls is that even children can make them.
Building on the idea of charm dolls, if you have a favorite old doll from your childhood, consider rejuvenating its numen (a term the Romans applied to the mysterious inner life force of objects) by cleaning it up a bit, perhaps giving it some festive new clothes, and then affixing some lucky charms to it. As many dolls have a certain resonance for us due to their ability to evoke the inner children of our past, this is a nice way to reconnect with your past and make it more beautiful, because altering the past is part of the shaman's art of changing the dream of reality. At the same time, it provides some creative fun for the present.

Elder's Meditation of the Day
"I believe much trouble and blood would be saved if we opened our hearts more."
-- Chief Joseph, NEZ PERCE
We are as sick as our secrets. Our ego takes over control of our lives and when that happens our minds get very sick. Then we hurt people and our minds will always justify our actions. Our minds will give us rationalization and excuses that we are justified in doing what we are doing.
My Creator, Let me live today with an open heart. Let me realize to be vulnerable is a strength, not a weakness. Let me realize the power of an open heart. Let me be available to truth. If I get into trouble, let me hear the whisper of your guidance. Let me make heart decisions and let my head catch up to that decision.

Ten Keys to Using Color With Feng Shui

Ten Keys to Using Color With Feng Shui
by Cucan Pemo
For those that are looking to change their lives and want to take a fresh, organic and affordable path to that goal, Feng Shui is the answer. Feng Shui is much more than just organizing your belongings in a particular way to allow for optimal chi flow, it is an entire state of mind.
Feng Shui is much more effective if used in conjunction with other aspects of your life like positive thinking, honest living and meditation. Those aspects of your life work like a magnifying glass that helps to grow and nurture your chi so that not only can it flow freer, but it can also be more powerful.
There are even more things you can do with Feng Shui than just arrange your furniture. Since Feng Shui is so closely related to one's well being, each color is associated with a particular mood, goal or feeling. Depending on what you are trying to achieve with your Feng Shui, whether it be wealth, health or love, there are individual colors that you want to focus on to help steer your chi in the direction you want it to go in. Here is a list of what each color means to your chi and what you can do to help it.
A few tips to start with: Not everyone likes every color, so if you feel you need to add a color to an area, but it's not a color you're particularly fond of, try to find a shade of that color you like, or, at the very least, find an object that you feel strongly about that is colored with the chosen color. Feng Shui will be much more effective if you have a positive reaction to everything you see in your home. Don't add a color just to add one.
Blue-- Blue is the perfect color to use in the area in which you meditate. It has a very calming effect and it is highly associated with peace and comfort. Blue is excellent to use in a bedroom situation or a place you want to get away from it all. It's also good in any room that you seek relaxation in on a regular basis like a den or living room.
Red-- Red represents truth and power. It is a good color to use in an area where you work. The home office or den or anyplace you do work should have at least some red in it.
Green-- Not only is green the color of money, it is also associated with health and vitality. It is the perfect color for the bathroom, or anyplace where medical supplies in your home are kept. Hang a green charm in a closet that your first aid kit is kept to help your chi there. It is also good for any room where the family gathers together, like a dining room or living room.
Purple-- As it has for thousands of years, purple is related to majesty and royalty. It works closely with red to help build wealth. It works anywhere where you would put red since wealth and fame tend to go hand in hand.
Pink-- Pink isn't just for girls anymore, since it is a combination of red (truth and power) and white (purity), pink is highly associated with love. Great for the bedroom or any other place you and a lover are intimate.
White-- The purest color stands for just that. It is also associated with spirituality and is perfect for any children's room or any place in your home that you look to keep morally pure and clean.
Grey-- Used for transition and connection. Most followers of Feng Shui choose grey for their garage or a vestibule area that connects the inside world to the outside. Grey is also good to use if you add an addition onto your home. You can paint or hang something grey at the line where your old home ended and your new extension begins.
Black-- Not a commonly used color, but it does work in small amounts. It usually stands for negative chi, but if used in areas that have a powerful chi component, areas that are usually painted red or purple, black can work in your favor by absorbing the bad chi and keeping the good chi pure. Don't overdo it with black, but in small amounts it can really help out.
Yellow-- Yellow isn't for cowards, it stands for tolerance and authority. It works well on the entry way into the parents' bedroom, as well as colors for any lists of chores for kids. Any place you feel you need to exert the family pecking order, yellow is the color to use.
Gold-- It's no surprise that gold is associated with wealth. Use in conjunction with purple and red to help build the wealth in your home office.
Feng Shui can seem mysterious on the surface, but once you break it down, the color system becomes clear. Once you've added that extra Feng Shui touch here and there, you can expect to see the results sooner rather than later.

Protection of Ancestors Spell
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue Jul 12, 2011 8:50 pm (PDT)
Protection of Ancestors Spell
Place pictures of your ancestors and those who have passed and are important to you in a circle on an altar table.
Light a candle in the northern corner of the table. Light some incense, clear your mind, and say:
Here I see the line of love,
Stretching down from above.
Kinsmen whose love never leaves,
Protect me in my time of need.
Place a photo of yourself in the middle of the table. See the circle of love around you and know you are blessed. Blow out the candle and imagine the smoke from this and the incense carrying your wishes to your kin.
Further honor your ancestors by tending their graves or keeping their memories alive by writing their stories for the generations to come.

Spell to Find a Lost Pet
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue Jul 12, 2011 8:50 pm (PDT)
Spell to Find a Lost Pet
For this spell to find a lost cat or other small pet, you'll need the assistance of a tree, rock, or other outdoor entity—preferably one in your yard or very near your home. Take one of your cat's favorite toys and some cat food to the tree. Tell the tree about your pet and that you are concerned because of how long he or she has been missing. Ask the tree if it will help you by providing a beacon for your cat to follow to get home. Leave the cat food near the tree. If a small rock gets your attention, bring it and the cat toy into the house. Keep them near the door. Every time you pass the toy, thank the tree for its help in providing a beacon for your pet.

Cosmic Calendar July 13
Posted by: "LadyHawk_Jax" ladyhawk_jax@yahoo.com ladyhawk_jax
Wed Jul 13, 2011 3:47 am (PDT)
It may take some extra time right now to feel comfortable on the love and business horizons as the Moon in Sagittarius is in void mode and Venus squares Saturn (12:37AM PDT). Pushing a romantic agenda around the time of a Venus-Saturn clash is foolish. You also want to be extra careful regarding financial matters.
Once the clock strikes 7:15AM PDT, the lunar orb enters the sign of the Mountain Goat or Sea Goat (depending on your mythological bent). The key is that when the Moon is transiting this tenth sign of the zodiac, you want to rise higher on the career track and strive to make it to the executive penthouse. Hard work and perseverance are the dynamic duo that will lead you to the summit of achievements in your main fields of expertise. Weather-permitting, consider going on a nature trek and take along compass, maps and binoculars for bird-watching.
Accentuate spiritual willpower and mental concentration when the Moon makes its monthly union with Pluto - Lord of the Underworld (5:35PM PDT). Sometimes this encounter between the Earth's satellite and the planet most removed from us in outer space can be emotionally stormy and upsetting.
However, giving you an additional boost this evening is a Moon-Jupiter flowing trine in earth signs (7:33PM PDT). Having an optimistic mind-set is the key to experiencing a favorable evening as you keep preparing for tomorrow night's potent Full Moon.
Love, Light and Abundant Blessings,
LadyHawk
