one of my friends has this on her desktop, or something similar. i could not
figure out how to work it, she said it did not install right and she was
missing some of the directions. i *think* you can also get this on your
smartphone, or something similar. it is supposed to show you
the constellations you should see above your head, and then in another view,
outlines them for you to see them. i would love to find one that also links
to the stories behind the names of each constellation. -Deardre

North Jersey Pagan Pride Fest 2011...Are you interested?

North Jersey Pagan Pride/Fall Fest, Need Opinion, can't find a park at this late time but Fire house in Ringwood invited me up to check the place out, I've been there before for other vender fairs and parties so already know the place, there is a park next store for mommies and kiddies (not part of property but open to the public) then the parking lot is pretty big, can fit venders outside near back and have people park in front, including workshops. Ritual and food we can do inside and poss some workshops. Weather if bad, we can move stuff inside. Is renting a hall ok with everyone?

Get Ready for Lammas!
Day 5: Lammas Magic
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
Lammas is a time of mystery and magic in many traditions, and much of it is related to protection of the fields, the home, and people. Today, we'll look at some different methods of protection magic found in folklore around the world. We'll talk about ways of protecting and purifying your personal space, using items you probably have in your home or garden right now, such as the ash tree, onions, and herbs.
Lammas Magic
In many magical traditions, workings can be done to ensure protection of home, property, and people. Lammas is a time in which the fields are beginning to be stripped bare, the darkness of winter is looming around the corner, and many people feel a need to "bump up" their magical security systems. There are a number of simple ways you can do protection magic... Protection Magic
Ash Tree Magic and Folklore
The Ash tree appears in the mythology of a number of cultures, and is typically associated with the gods and other sacred aspects of life. Because of its close association not only with the Divine but with knowledge, Ash can be worked with for many different kinds of spells, rituals, and other workings... Ash Tree Folklore
Make Your Own Smudge Sticks
Smudge sticks are simple to make if you've got access to herbs. Use them in rituals to purify your space, or to cleanse and protect your home. How to Make Smudge Sticks
Onion Magic
Believe it or not, in addition to being good for you, the onion has a lot of protective properties. Gather some onions from your garden -- or harvest them in the wild -- and braid them together to make a protective charm for your home... Make an Onion Braid
Magical Vervain Water
Vervain was known in many legends as one of the herbs sacred to the Druids. It is also used in Hoodoo and some folk magic traditions to make a protective oil. Although it is often associated with the Summer Solstice, the vervain plant is highly potent in late summer, around the time of Lammas. Why not gather some up, and make Vervain Water to use in ritual? How to Make Vervain Water
Tomorrow: Lammas Crafts and Creations
In tomorrow's lesson, we'll look at some simple craft projects you can make to celebrate the season. We'll make apple candles, a corn husk chain, a rain barrel for the garden, and more!

Goddess For Today: Tamayorihime Tenjin (Japan)
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411

Goddess For Today: Tamayorihime
Tenjin (Japan)
Themes: Cleansing; Health; Children; Water
Symbol: Water (especially moving water or saltwater)
About Tamayorihime: An ancient Japanese sea goddess, Tamayorihime rules not only moving water sources but also all matters of health. She also watches over birth waters to ensure a speedy, safe delivery for pregnant women.
To Do Today: This festival began in 949 C.E. as a way to get rid of summer maladies. If you've had a cold, the flue, or some other ailment, try an adaptation of Japanese custom. Take a piece of paper that you've left on your altar for a while and rub it on the area of your body that's afflicted. Drop the paper into moving water (like the toilet) to carry away sickness in Tamayorihime's power. Alternatively, burn the paper to purge the problem. Mingle the ashes with a few drops saltwater and carry them in a sealed container as a Tamayorihime amulet for health.
For personal cleansing and healing, soak in an Epsom-salt bath today. As you lie in the tub, stir the water clockwise with your hand to draw Tamayorihime's health to you, or counterclockwise so she can banish a malady. If time doesn't allow for this, add a very small pinch of salt to your beverages and stir them similarly throughout the day, while mentally or verbally reciting this invocation:
"Health be quick, health be kind,
within this cup the magic bind!"
Drink the beverage to internalize Tamayorihime's energy.

Candle Consecration Spell
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Sun Jul 24, 2011 8:49 pm (PDT)
Candle Consecration Spell
Color of the day: Gold
Incense of the day: Coriander
To cleanse a candle prior to spell work, collect the following:
some cedar oil, a second candle, dried sage, salt, and water. The object is to consecrate the candle with each of the four elements. As you
expose the candle to each item, say the words, âPower of earth, air,
water, and fireâ"this candle is made pure for my desire.â That is, roll
the candle in salt, pass it through the smoke of burning sage, rinse it
with water, and pass it quickly through the flame of another burning
candle. Afterward, anoint the candle with the oil using the method of
your choice. Donât charge the candle for its purpose at this time, but
imagine clearing it of any prior associations. Later, you can charge the candle for a specific spell by visualizing your need and carving an
appropriate symbol into its side.

Summer Prosperity Spell
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Sun Jul 24, 2011 8:51 pm (PDT)
Summer Prosperity Spell
.
At this time of year, late in July, the butterflies are hovering almost constantly over the coneflowers, and hummingbirds are flashing about the monarda and salvias. In late afternoon, the thunder spirit rumbles, promising needed rain. The richness of July makes this a potent time to work prosperity magic. As the Sun sets, smudge your altar with sage. Deck the altar with red and purple flowers. Two candles should be placed on the altar: one green, the other purple. Light the candles, and speak this charm:
Green of life,
Purple of the vine,
Money and wealth are mine.
Money come to me,
Only my share,
Anymore would not be fair.
And with harm to none.
This spell is even stronger if it should rain and storm as youâre working it.

"Maenad Song"
How happy I am
running through the hills,
the skin of a fawn
my only cloak, eating
only the meat I kill -
this is such sweetness!
Come with me to the mountains,
sister! Come with me there!
We'll find honey there, and milk
and nectar and incense,
and women reveling, singing
euoi! euoi!
Join me and follow him,
follow the god of ecstasy,
that raucous boy -
euoi! euoi! euoi!
~Greek Dramatist Euripdes
All humans long for ecstasy, for experiences that lift us beyond the mundane and into a direct connection with the divine. In ages past, religions made room for the ecstatic, whether through drumming, shamanic journeying, vision questing, or other means. today, ecstasy has been sent forth from the churches into the world. And, without the sanctification of ritual, people's search for ecstasy often leads them to addictive or self-destructive behaviors. Behind such behaviors is, often, a truly divine search. To attempt to end addictive behaviors without understanding the urge is ineffective, for the human spirit will resist living in a world without ecstasy. It is one of the great gifts of humanity that we can feel so alive, so unified with the cosmos. Do not deny your urge toward ecstasy. Welcome the gift, and use it wisely.
