Friday Finds An Idea!
Friday July 8, 2011
9:00 am - 10:00 am
(This event repeats every week.)

Notes:
As we know the goal is to live our lives magically in the moment every day in the now and while it would be nice to go and buy all the cool witchy stuff that is out there...their is so much in every day objects that we can use around the home.
So here is what I suggest...Post up an every day object once a week and let the creative juices flow and post up what we would or could possibly use it for magically.
I thought it would be kinda cool and inspiring...whatcha think..

Namaste'
Wendy

Gary, you are never too old to learn. I am almost 73 and still
learning after being in Paganism for 40 years. You are not too
far from Ozark Avalon or for that matter the Pagans in
Booneville, or St. Louis, where I am. Come out, get involved and
next June make sure you come out to the Pagan Picnic, where you
will be surrounded by thousands of Pagans.

Brightest Blessings, Don

Camping and Overnight Accommodations

Again this year, we are going to let people camp wherever they want - in the field, forest or in-between. The pottapotties, showers, potable water, meals and concerts will all still be down near the house so if you camp in the woods, plan to get your hiking in. There will be designated fire pits. Do not make new ones. This time of year is typically dry but rainstorms have been known to happen, so we strongly recommend you bring a tarp or ground cloth to put under your tent.

Parking space is limited, so no campers or RV's, please.
There are a limited number of B&B's and inns in Bethel and nearby towns. Please contact Laurelin staff if you would like further information.

Toilets, Showers, and Water
Port-a-potties will be available on-site. There is an outdoor shower with warm water. (You may want to bring solar showers if you like warm/ hot showers). There is an outdoor sink for washing dishes and drinking water. All of these are down near the main house.

Meal Plan
We will again be offering our delicious meal plan - with both carnivore and vegetarian options - catered by the amazing Chef Dave. It includes: breakfast, lunch and dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and brunch on Sunday (10 meals).

The plan can be bought either for the whole festival, Friday through Sunday, or just Saturday and Sunday. If you are signing up for the meal plan, we need your registration NO LATER than July 15th.

Please also let us know right away if you have any special dietary needs/ allergies.

Village Builders
This year we will be having a special day for those people who would like to come together as a smaller group to share, connect and participate in the creation of our magickal village. In ritual and with magickal intent, we will break into teams each dedicated to creating and maintaining one aspect of our magickal community - some hard physical labor, and others less so. Arrival is by Noon on Tuesday, August 3rd. There is no cost for coming to Village Builders however the meal plan will be offered (dinner on Tuesday, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Wednesday). Cost for the Builders meal plan is an additional $28.00.

Workshops, Rituals, and Activities
If you have an idea for a workshop, ritual, discussion, performance, or children's activity - we'd LOVE to hear about it! Don't be shy - we're open to any and all ideas. Help us make Lughnasadh an exciting, rich and fun-filled experience that will keep everyone coming back year after year (and bringing more friends too!). Send your proposals via email to: laurelin@sover.net before July 1st. (Sooner is better!) You will be notified by July 8th whether or not it is accepted.

Vendor Info
We'd love to have lots of vendors for Lughnasadh 2011! Crafts, clothing, food, mead, New Age, whatever! We've got plenty of space and there is no fee for merchanting; however, we do ask a 10% commission on your sales at the end of the event. One person (the merchant) can have their registration fee waived. Any guests/ helpers would have to pay full registration. You still have to provide your own food, travel, etc. Please complete the Vendor Registration form and return it with your reservation along with photos of your booth and/or website information. These can be very useful for promoting you before you even get here. Please bring your own setup/display, weather protection, and safe storage facilities.

Pets/ Dogs
Dogs are welcome this year at the festival. However, you MUST provide proof of rabies vaccination or your dog will not be permitted. Further, all dogs must be kept on-leash at all times in the fields or around the house. They are free to run loose in the wooded areas. You are expected to pick up and dispose of any waste left in areas where people will be walking, camping, etc.

Your pet must be calm, non-disruptive, and under your control (on leash or off) at all times. If it fights with other animals, is disruptive by barking or other behaviors, is threatening or causes damage to the site or its other occupants, or not under your control at all times you will be required to take the pet off-site with no refund.

For more information or to get a registration packet: contact Kirk at laurelin@sover.net or 802-234-9670

--------------------------------

A word from Chef Dave:

My name is Dave, I've been a professional chef for over a decade, working primarily in fine dining and "scratch" kitchens, most as either Sous or Head Chef. I have professionally taught culinary skills to high school students, catered weddings, opened restaurants, designed menus, and all the other tasks that come with that territory. Of all my prior work experiences, the donation of my time last year to Laurelin remains my favorite experience, as it allowed me to embrace my deepest roots as both a Reconstructionist and chef.

My greatest passion in preparing food is working with local ingredients, taking the time to meet the farmers who continue the traditions that are intertwined with our survival as a people. Lughnasadh is a festival of the harvest, and celebrating the continued bounty of our own bioregion is integral to our relationship with nature as pagans.

Last year I explored a variety of ingredients, one's that I knew we could easily glean from local farms. In the process I learned that there were more things within our climate zone that thrive than I realized. We used around 80% local ingredients last year, this year I am hoping for closer to 90% to 95% (certain things still cannot be procured locally).

As with last year, I do NOT take payment for what I do - this is my offering to the Gods. Thus, basically, what you spend to join the meal plan is what you get in return. If there is any funding left at the end, it is reinvested in the community. I very highly doubt any other festival can offer this, and I aim to produce the finest work of my career this year. Without ego, or arrogance, I can safely say you could not touch this level of food for this price ANYWHERE - simply put I do not have the overhead costs of brick & mortar or staff to get in my way of making my offering.

I am bringing in close friends to work with me this year, both with kitchen experience, and have had offers from at least one other. It is my goal to make the kitchen somewhat "self sufficient" in regards to production and clean up - though I will still certainly welcome help, as I did last year. Honestly, I just don't want to have to count on the community as much as I did last year - I wore myself a little thin, though I loved every second of it.

The BIG change from 2010 is my goal of setting up a mobile kitchen, and essentially launching the next phase of my career, right here at Laurelin. We will no longer be using Kirk's kitchen/porch to produce food, instead relying on portable catering equipment and, as best I can, environmentally friendly methodology (by next year I intend to use no gas/oil products - moving to a biodiesel generator and hardwood grilling primarily). This will eventually lead to my concept of a "green catering company" called Caravan. This year the
Caravan begins with the Harvest.

Hope to see you there!

DailyOM - Choosing to Have a Mate or Be Single
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

July 8, 2011
The Ways We Love
Choosing to Have a Mate or Be Single
Being single or in a being relationship are both valid options for living life and one is not better than the other.

The way we choose to love can be as unique as the way we choose to make a living, maintain our health, or entertain ourselves. Some choose to seek out a mate and enter into a partnership with a special individual, while others find immense satisfaction in staying single. There is no right or wrong way to be in your life when it comes to deciding whether or not to be in a relationship, even though society tends to put an emphasis on romantic partnerships. Whether you choose to go through life as part of a romantic relationship or live as a single unit, there are benefits to both. Feel free to be comfortable with whatever choice is right for you.

Choosing to be single is a wonderful way to spend time discovering yourself. You have more time and space to figure out what and how you want your life to be without having to keep someone else’s choices in mind. Being single gives you the freedom to do what you want at a moment’s notice and the pride that comes with facing life on your own terms. Companionship, support, and affection can be found while spending quality time with friends, colleagues, and relatives. There is also the fun that comes with being able to date many different people without having to make a commitment. Choosing to have a mate, on the other hand, brings with it an opportunity to share your life with another person. There is comfort in the knowledge that you are facing the world with someone as a united front. When life is challenging, you are in a position to strengthen, as well as give each other comfort. There is also the inevitable transformation of self that comes from
allowing another person t!
o so intimately be a part of your life.

Remember that what is right for one person may not be right for another, and people can transition between wanting to be with another person and wanting to be alone many times over the course of their lives. Whether you seek out a mate or live the single life, embracing it fully will ensure that either choice is as fulfilling as possible for you.

What's Happening Today:

Sun. July 11th

Christian: The feast of St. Benedict. Benedict was the son of a nobleman in Nursia, who turned to life as a hermit and monk. In 529 AD, Benedict destroyed the temple to Apollo at Monte Cassino, about 80 miles southeast of Rome and built a monastery on its ruins.

He founded what later became the Benedictine order. The Benedictines were great herbalists, inventing exquisite medicines from the pods and flowers of the field.

His miracles were reported to be making water flow from rocks, sending a disciple to walk on the water, and making oil flow continuously from a flask.

In Brazil, they celebrate this saint's day as the Festa de Sao Benedito, with an outdoor Cowboy Mass. They remain on horseback throughout the ceremony while blessings are said for the cowboys' gear, their hats, saddles and saddlebags containing traditional foods like manioc (cassava) meal, queijo do sertao (goat's cheese), and bolinhos (balls of fried rice and cheese).

Today's Goddess:.Habonde Bodmin Riding (Wales)

Today's Goddess:.Habonde
Bodmin Riding (Wales)

Themes ~  Abundance; Joy; Health; Fertility; Luck; Magic; Cleansing
Symbols ~  Ale; Fires

About Habonde~  In Celtic tradition, Habonde is a witchy Goddess who represents abundance: an abundance of joy, health, fertility, and luck.  Customarily, people honored her by dancing around magical ritual fires whose smoke was said to purify both body and soul.

To Do Today~  On the first Monday in July, people in Wales prepare for a lunch of ale brewed eight months ago.  This is taken joyfully around town and shared to bring joy, prosperity, and longevity to everyone, courtesy of the Goddess and the local brewers' guild.  If you're a home brewer, this is an excellent day to make ritual beer or wine, both of which have to boil on the hearth, a symbol of Habonde.  As you work, stir clockwise to draw positive energy your way.  When your schedule's too hectic for this, pour yourself a small glass of beer (you can use the nonalcoholic kind), and lift it to the sky, saying,

"Habonde, bring abundance.  Habonde, health and luck bring.
When through my lips this liquid passes, let my soul sing!"

Drink expectantly.

Lighting any fire source honors Habonde and draws her attention to areas where you feel her energies are needed.

Lucky Money Spell

Lucky Money Spell
.
To encourage the flow of money
in your direction, take a dollar coin, and bless it by the four
elements, by saying: “I bless this coin by the power of air (and fire,
water, and earth, in that order).” Hold the coin to each of the four
directions as you say this. Then put the coin where it will be in direct sunlight for a day. Carry the coin in your pocket every day. When it
feels right, spend the coin on something magical or otherwise special to you. It’s a good idea to let the magic circulate. Then put the charm on another dollar coin.

Daily Aromatherapy Tip...Sweet Dreams Handkerchief

For sweet dreams scent a handkerchief or tissue with Lavender and Marjoram ( 1 drop of each)
and place inside your pillowcase. This combination works better than just lavender alone.
You may also use a blend of your choice.

African Chant To The Goddess Of Love

Hey! She has a light step, don't she?
Hey! She has some fine clothes!
Hey! She dances down richness!
Look at those bracelets shake!
Her bracelets like water!
Water, like the bracelets of Oshun.
Dance when she shake those bracelets,
dance and call Oshun. She can do
what the doctor can't. She can heal
with just cold water. Call Oshun.
All her answers are wise ones.
Call Oshun. She always say:
Live, my children, live without fear.
~ African Chant To The Goddess Of Love

There is only one way
we can completely heal the injuries life brings us, and that is to live
and love without fear. To live is to endure pain, whether physical,
mental, emotional, or spiritual. But we can choose how we react to that
pain. If we clench ourselves in fear of more pain, we live cramped and
unsatisfying lives - and we will not prevent ourselves from being hurt.
If we open ourselves to life, we will still feel pain, but we will feel
joy and pleasure as well.

We have, each of us,
deep fears within us that prevent us from totally grasping life and its
many joys. Discovering and healing those painful areas is the work of a
lifetime. But without doing that work, we will never truly live..
