This is a book which steps beyond the basic Book of Shadows of Wicca. As such it is about magick in a religious setting. It is not to stand on its own, but rather to be used in conjunction with training already received.
This is a highly focused and specialized book. There are only two topics covered within its pages - erecting a Magick Circle and invoking divine forces into it. That's it. It is assumed that the reader is actively involved in the religion of Wicca and is proficient in the rituals that entails. If that does NOT describe you, this book won;t do you a lot of good
If you are looking for instructions in the more mundane aspects of the religion of Wicca, I can recommend a few books and authors to check out (contact me off-list, or start a separate thread for that)., this book is not going to help you on that quest. This book is intended to deepen understanding of makes a ritual succeed.
Although it has been pointed out repeatedly, books can't teach you magick! What they can do is to inspire you, in the words of one of my instructors, "to recognize the knowledge that you didn't know you already had." (Kinda like a Homer Simpson "Doh!" moment.) Since everyone has unique life experiences, it may take a different perspective to awaken what lies within.
He offers alternatives to the traditional elemental placements as well as a variety of invocation styles, carefully explaining the reasoning behind the alterations, and suggests several other possibilities. He draws his inspiration from hermetic sources as well as from various Wiccan traditions.
His presentation is interesting and informative, but not so boring that you will have trouble following his thought patterns. For some people, I suspect, it will be a case of overkill, since there are many acceptable formats available in a wide variety of other source materials. However, for the individual who is looking to explore other possibilities, this book brings together a variety of ideas, without the dogmatic "If you do this, then you MUST do that" that many authors seem to favor. It also avoids the "anything goes" attitude of many eclectics, since it stresses research into why you choose to do something in a particular way, and also strongly suggests that you experiment with changes on a continuing basis in order to be able to judge if they really work for you in the long run - one or two tries are not particularly conclusive.
For the novice, this book will serve little purpose, but more experienced practitioners will surely find that it deserves to be in their library. As I said earlier, no book can teach you magick, but this book may open your eyes to other possibilities and ways of approaching the subject.

This is the second recording released by Circle (originally recorded Candlemas 1980) and includes three chants by Selena Fox ("Isis Invocation," "Diana Chant," and "Dance with the Trees") and 10 songs by one of the most talented songsmiths of the early Pagan recording days. If you have never heard Jim Alan perform (and I know a lot of you haven't), you are in for a treat.
Circle is slowly beginning to release some of the older classics in their collection, until
now available only on cassette tape, in CD format, and that is a very good thing. For too
long it has been difficult to convey what these songs meant as the tapes wore out and all
that were available were our memories.
The drums, autoharp, guitar and recorder which accompany these songs complement the
words without overpowering them. These songs were heard around campfires for years,
usually started by Jim and/or Selena, but soon carried along by the voices of other
participants - we all knew the words and didn't need much encouragement to join in the
singing. You won't either, by the time you have them a couple of times.
During the four years which elapsed between "Circle Magick Music" and this recording Jim and Selena gathered a small group of talented folks around themselves to help with their endeavors. DeAnna Alba's voice adds a different sound as does Lugh Shin's. Lugh also took over the drums for this set. Sarah White contributed the tones of the recorder.
Where "Circle Magick Music" (see my previous review) had a feeling of a group of friends sharing songs around a campfire, this recording has more of a feeling of a workshop. Lest you think that diminishes it in any way, it doesn't.
Jim's ballads reach inside you and help yo to know the reality of the stories he conveys. His music has always resonated for me, perhaps because of its simple, unplugged style. His music is playable, and enjoyable, anywhere.
I have to admit that "Diana Chant" is probably the only track on this CD that I don't particularly like. I suspect that is simply a reaction on my part to the tempo. Your experience may vary. With that one exception, I found all of the songs to be quite moving.
Do yourself a favor, and add this CD to your collection.

The Five Elements The Magick Cauldron
This was one of the first guided meditation tapes I ever encountered, and the fact that Circle has finally gotten around to putting it on CD makes it easier for me (and others) to experience these wonderful trips. It was originally recorded in 1981 and, unlike many more modern guided meditations, relies strictly on the spoken word, with no accompanying music to augment the experience.
I've known Selena for decades and have been looking forward to the time when she (and the rest of Circle Sanctuary) would reissue Circle's audio offerings on CD. That time has come and, whether you are interested from a historical perspective (the original tapes were all made over 20 years ago) or from a desire to experience differing viewpoints, these CDs should be a welcome addition to your audio library
It may be somewhat difficult for some of the newer members of the Magical/Pagan community to recognize that there was a time when guided meditations were taught one-on-one or in small groups in the presence of the instructor. The sheer number of meditation CDs available makes it tough to believe that it hasn't always been this way. This CD represents one of the earliest attempts to make guided meditations available to a wider audience.
Selena knows (and knew then) how to relax an individual. With no musical support, it may be a bit difficult for some (who have come to rely on the soothing music of most such CDs to help them relax) to really get into the experience. It is a different - neither better nor worse, merely different - way to approach the exercise. If you have never experienced this style of guided meditation you owe it to yourself to give it a try.
The first track of this CD takes you through an interactive tour of the five elements, after teaching a basic relaxation technique. The second track is devoted to experiencing not the elements, nor journeying to a temple or mystical destination, but to discovering who YOU are. Selena uses her voice as a catalyst for your own discoveries. There are no distractions to lead you away from that experience.
There are occasional (and to me, very noticeable) hesitations which were obviously not intended. They may not be so obvious if you are USING it as intended (after all, I was reviewing it, which altered my perceptions).
This journey allows you to know yourself in the past, present, and future. It is intended to help you integrate all aspects of yourself and, if used repeatedly as part of an ongoing journey, will enable you to see and track your progress.

This is the final installment in the "Seer" series, unfortunately, but it is not the last time we will encounter Thorn (Sabine's Goth friend) - she stars in the "Goth Girl" series which is forthcoming from the talented pen of this author.
There are few authors who are producing quality fiction which is "New Age" friendly, and Ms. Singleton is one of the better ones. Ms. Singleton shows a unique ability to portray the typical teen girl while making it an empowering experience. This is a well-crafted series which works well for the age group (young adults ages 12 and up) it is aimed at.
Young readers will be able to identify with Sabine Rose, the heroine of this series, even if they aren't psychic themselves. She suffers all the pains and uncertainties shared by teenagers in general, amplified by being "the new kid" and being sure that if anyone knew their "dark secret" they would be rejected and even more outcast. And, of course, someone accepting you is a cause of even more paranoia.
Sabine doesn't run around the neighbor-hood proclaiming her abilities. As a teen girl she is more concerned with fitting in than with standing out. This series has been a joy to read, especially since it has been treated as one long story with no major time gaps from beginning to end. Each book has picked up almost exactly where the previous one ended. This is a fun series to read. There are no great lessons to be learned, no huge surprises, just an enjoyable story with characters you can identify with and care about.
Nothing comes easy for Sabine. Her mother kicked her out (her grandmother took her in); her spirit guide (Opal) can be very frustrating; she isn't sure about how to relate to Dominic (her grandmother's handyman/apprentice ) since they shared a kiss; keeping her psychic abilities under wraps; and, on top of it all, her grandmother is showing signs of what could be considered to be Alzheimer's disease.
Written for young adults (ages 12 and up) the plot line is kept relatively simple and the occult elements, although slightly dark, are not overwhelming or oppressive. Sabine is, in most ways, a typical teen facing typical teen problems, the most important of which is feeling that her problems are unique and would brand her as an outsider if anyone else were to find out about them.
The most believable part of Sabine's life, besides an uncomfortable relationship with her mother; a confused feeling about her romantic life; and an on-going attempt to fit in with her friends; is the fact that her psychic abilities don't provide all the answers at once. She has to work through hints, feelings, and impressions to find out who she is supposed to be helping and how she is supposed to provide that help.
This final installment is rife with disappearances and mysteries, but for Sabine that is almost a normal part of her life. Still, her ex-boyfriend disappears; her half-sister does as well; her best girl-friend's boyfriend is killed; and her grandmother is considering merging her match-making business with another's. And then there is Dominic's (her boyfriend) pursuit by a private investigator, what's that all about?
Happy endings are a cliché, but ending this series on an upbeat note seems right. Sabine finds things work out for her in the end...and she can start a new life with no regrets.

This is the only CD in the set which I had not owned (and listened to) as a tape, so I went in with no expectations.
For all intents, the first half of the introductory comments are contained in the liner notes.
Dennis takes the time to validate the experiences you will be undergoing. He encourages you to function as as observer, not as a participant, thus providing the distance needed to deal with, and grow from, the events you observe. His voice is strong while remaining comforting. It is easy to place yourself in his hands (metaphorically speaking) and allow him to help you begin your journey. He insists that you are not to be concerned if your journey does not follow his exactly, and that is important for those just beginning their work with guided meditations.
It is advisable to be completely comfortable with the contents of the first two tracks before moving on to the final journey. In the original, which was on tape, this was easy to guarantee, as the final track was on the other side of the cassette tape from the first two, and thus you could not "accidentally" slide into it.
This is one of the few guided meditations I have worked with which does not direct you to a specific location. You are helped to find that "special place in nature" which is right for you. You are not told what to expect, merely to be open to whatever experiences you need to grow comfortable with who and what you are.
The final track is, essentially, a repeat of the second one, with the addition of about seven minutes of instruction on the viewing of a past life. Dennis includes a reminder that not all problems in the here and now have their origins in a past life, and that while it can be enjoyable to relive the past, one must not allow such activities to overtake your day-to-day life. He also cautions the listener to make sure that they are comfortable with the idea of meditation, and to deal with any existing psychological problems with an appropriately trained mental health professional before beginning such work.
This disk is an excellent introduction to both meditation and past life viewing. I recommend it without hesitation or reservation.

Merry Meet,
This message you received kind of hit home. Not sure if it's intended for me, but everything you wrote hit me hard.
I'm going through some rough times right now in my marriage, and I know what I need to do, but can't seem to get there. Sometimes I feel there is no way out, and I don't know what to do. I'm in a very volatile relationship and I'm scared to make that move for fear what he will do to me.
When you referenced "Paint it yellow", it made me really stop and think that this is directed towards me. I am an artist and I've been battling what color to use in a pice of my artwork, so I thank you for directing me to the right color.
I just love this group, and I look forward to all the posts. Everyone is so wonderful here, and I've taken in so much knowledge and feel like I have new friends.
If I may ask for some white light and blessings be sent my way, it would make me feel that I am not alone in my quest to better my life.

White light coming your way …
I just want to say .. I am a survivor of domestic violence myself.. my first marriage was 4 years of abuse of every kind from physical to emotional, verbal and whatever else there could be.
My message is there is a way out and you can survive and will.
I know it is hard to see your way out when you are in the middle of it all … but there are ways.
I stayed for 4 years for the same reasons .. fear of what if I leave .. what will happen then …
One day I dropped that fear and faced it head on .. that day I hold dear to me … the very best day of my life ever.. I took my power back.. I stood up knowing I could very well be knocked right back down again and again .. I stood up and I left and have never looked back. It was scary as hell but I stood my ground and stuck to my guns.. took myself and my children out of the situation.. surrounded myself with people that were safe and before you knew it .. it was all over and done.
He has power only because your fears allow him to have it.
I want you to know that there are resources … but have to want to leave the situation.. you have to really want the change.
Be careful .. be safe … and take back your life.

Merry Meet,
This message you received kind of hit home. Not sure if it's intended for me, but everything you wrote hit me hard.
I'm going through some rough times right now in my marriage, and I know what I need to do, but can't seem to get there. Sometimes I feel there is no way out, and I don't know what to do. I'm in a very volatile relationship and I'm scared to make that move for fear what he will do to me.
When you referenced "Paint it yellow", it made me really stop and think that this is directed towards me. I am an artist and I've been battling what color to use in a pice of my artwork, so I thank you for directing me to the right color.
I just love this group, and I look forward to all the posts. Everyone is so wonderful here, and I've taken in so much knowledge and feel like I have new friends.
If I may ask for some white light and blessings be sent my way, it would make me feel that I am not alone in my quest to better my life.

support such an event occurred. Some have suggested that these A-S leaders were
taken by their clans & buried along with their kin instead of assuming there'd
be some sort of mass grave. The following from Wikipedia gives some interesting

Merry Meet Karla, Yeah right, but whether there was 2500, 3500, or 4000 there were a hell of a lot of attrocities committed in Yeshua's name, the amount is immaterial, all acts of hypocrisy, bigotry, racism, misogyny etc; are horrible crimes, and the truth is they never paid for them. I believe that one should never accept this way of thinking in any dogma!

My right leg hurts 24/7! Hard to get to sleep at night! Having a problem in getting a way to Phoenix! The organization that helped ones get a bus ticket closed shop some time ago! No one stepped in to take over! In spite of my right leg I am going back to the streets! This time I am going to take all my belongings with! I lost the stuff I had held due to it being taken along with the bag! I will be on the street, homeless till I get to Phoenix Arizona! Doing this allows me to stay in the downtown area. The bread of life shelter is downtown. This time I have extra pillows that will soften the super hard floor. I also will have my coat and a flea infested comforter! Ones in Phoenix is trying their best to keep me from going there! Please focus on seeing me getting to Phoenix Arizona! Merry Meet and Merry Part! My the Godness help us be what we truly are! this is sad. i can feel that from him sometimes. like it's not his fault. he
says that god is always in control. and that everything has a purpose. this
could also apply to my older brother. he's gone through a lot of pain also. and
he blames himself i guess. he doesn't know how to fix things. and he also has a
strong belief in god. he believes god has a plan. he prays for me all the time
he says. and i can see how he'd want to give up on everything.

my parents don't want me to be a witch. and they are catholic. but they don't
know how to be kind. they don't know how to just talk to me. anything simple.
that shows love. and it hurts. to be so isolated from them. and today i had a
fight with them. because of what my sister said. i told my mother what my sister
had told me and many people. that she was going to get away from this house. and
move out at 18. i ask for healing. i am so upset. i cried for a long time. and
even when i cried my father wouldn't stop yelling at me. people who aren't
witches don't really know how to act. atleast that's what i believe. and i am
wishing right now. for peace. my parents upset me. and i think i just saw the
future. people ask me what i did wrong. i didn't do anything. my mom told me to
clean the table. while i was cleaning my dad started to yell at me about how
lazy i am. that i can't even clean the damn living room. and i don't even wash
the damn dishes. he said i was lazy. and i was stupid. that i should have known
the paint wouldn't come off the table because it's paint. and i cried. because i
had a bad experience with yelling as a fourth grader. and when i finished
cleaning the table. i wanted to leave. my dad said to get back there. so i did.
and he said why are you leaving i said because i'm angry and upset. he said
someone who is angry should use their energy in work. that i will clean the
living room. and i said no. i asked why he was so angry with me. and we just
yelled back and fourth. he said he hated taking care of me. i said it's not my
fault i'm sick it's yours because you had me it's your fault i suffer. and he
said something about haveing to hit me for me to want to cry for a reason. and i
said you don't do that in america. he said you do that all over the world. and i
said in america you call the police and you go to court for it. he said send me
to court. i said if you do you'll go to jail. and he said send me to jail. that
way i won't have to support you. then see what you do from there on. you'll have
to work. see who takes care of you then. i said i'd atleast die happy. i don't
need to be supported because i could just die. [i'm suicidal sometimes because
i'm depressed] and he said if i died he'd pull my feet to make me come back to
him. and he'd put me to work in the after life. and then we sort of laughed. but
i'm still shaken up about it. even an hour after it happened.

when i was seventeen i wanted to be a witch. when i found out they were real. i
started doing witch things. like making my own tea from herbs. and using hot
water to unclog my nose when i was sick [which isn't really a witch thing but
they thought it was witchcraft]. the discussion of witchcraft didn't come up
that day we fought. it came up two years ago. when i was younger. and my parents
were fine with it. but told me to stay away from it after i ran away. something
happened that i don't want to talk about. and i decided it was time to leave.
lol. but i was under age. and i had to go anywhere i could go. so i moved in
with a friend. they caught me. and i had to go back to them. and our
relationship went down hill. i hated them for a long time. and they didn't
approve of me. not my beliefs me. only the part of me just being their daughter
me. they hated everything i'd done. [we moved into a haunted house. and my
family blamed me for my witchcraft bringing bad spirits into the house] i'm the
one who brought witchcraft up. i told them i wanted to be a witch they didn't
ask me if i wanted to be a witch. and they were fine with it. i even told my
uncle. but he wanted me out of it. but he doesn't understand. i feel like nobody
does. they're all so closed minded now.
