The most common complaint heard from students learning to read the tarot is that they have no one for whom to do practice readings. Because they know friends and family so well, they tend to read things into their readings instead of just allowing the reading to flow. These sessions will allow students to practice reading for a person they don't know. Students will be paired off and will read for each other with Barbara available for assistance should someone get stuck. The best way to become a good reader is to practice. Here's your chance! The swap is open to anyone learning to read tarot or who needs to brush up on their skills.

Spend an evening exploring "the other side" with medium Susan Bischak. She will demonstrate platform mediumship (mediumship for a group of people). Susan's focus is on communicating with spirits that want to bring messages to you. As receiver and interpreter of the messages, Susan does her best to give you information you can be sure is from someone you know that has passed over. This form of mediumship is Evidential Mediumship. These messages are very healing , personal, emotional, humorous, and joyful. Susan has been studying metaphysical topics since 1980. She learned mediumship from an American Spiritualist. She has taught mediumship for 10 years and attended workshops by instructors from the famed Arthur Findlay College in England. Treasure mapping is the art and science of mapping and achieving our desires. In this fun & creative workshop, we'll be combining visualizations, affirmations and practical measures specially designed to help swiftly manifest our goals. At our first meeting we'll be creating our own unique treasure map using images, photos and words. We'll then learn visualizations and meditations to remove obstacles and manifest our dreams.

Only $9.00!

Please bring your map, notebook, and pen to each meeting.

*If you missed a previous session you can still join the fun. We'll hold a 'refresher' session a half hour before the scheduled meetings...there is no additional fee, simply arrive early. Please bring a map or the makings of a map (posterboard, inspiring words, photos and watever else you'd like to include!

7.: The Messages That Come Our Way

If you have been following my blog or if you follow me on Facebook,
youâ€™ll know whatâ€™s been going with me and the master numbers (111,
222, 333, 444, 555, etc).

If you havenâ€™t been following Iâ€™ll quickly catch you up. For the
past month every time I turn around I see the numbers 111, 222, 333 etc
â€¦ these are called the master numbers .. or angelic numbers. There is
meaning for each set of numbers and it is considered to be a nudge from
the angels or your spirit guides when you see these numbers. I see them
several times a day .. throughout my entire day .

This morning I was woken up by an owl outside my window making the
craziest of noises.. not only was it doing its normal hooting sound I
would go into a rant like hoot and would sound almost monkey
like..LOLâ€¦ I turned to see what time it was and .. yep you guessed it
.. 4:44am

I got up to see if I could see the owl because if I could I was going to
grab my camera and take some pics .. but it was still too dark out to
see the owl. What was odd is that after I got up and looked out the
window .. the hooting stopped. Not another peep from mister owl.. it was
almost as if he just wanted me to wake up and see the clock.

So I went back to be for another 15 minutesâ€¦ got up .. showered..
dressed.. ran upstairs to grab my phone and head off to work,, quickly
looked at my phone to check the time to make sure I was on schedule..
and the time wasâ€¦. 5:55 ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh LOLâ€¦ welcome to my
crazy world!

So Mr. Owl has inspired me to give you info on what this totem brings to
you when he appears:

The Owl

The owl is the symbol of
the feminine, the moon and the night.
The owl is the bird of magic and darkness, of prophecy and wisdom.

The owl is associated with Athena.

An owl totem gives you the power to extract secrets.
Meditate on the owl and things will be revealed.

Event Details: COME JOIN US TO CELEBRATE MAY DAY AND THE RITES OF SPRING WHILE WE DANCE AROUND THE MAYPOLE

The Coven of the Rising Phoenix is pleased to continue the tradition of Beltaine in the Park at Nassau County's Wantagh Park for it's 18th year.

WE WILL BE CELEBRATING BELTAINE THIS YEAR WITH A FULL WEEKEND EVENT!

Saturday, May 7st and Sunday, May 8th from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. There will be 2 days worth of ritual, dancing, shopping, entertainment, classes, drumming and 2 community picnics!

Admission is $5.00 per day or $8.00 per weekend pass.
Children under 10 Y/O free.
Receive a $1.00 discount per admission for a non perishable donation to our food bank - LI Cares.
All net proceeds go to Bobbi and the Strays - a local animal shelter and rescue group.
Bobbi and the Strays will be on hand both Saturday and Sunday with adorable animals for adoption.

An 18 foot piece of ribbon will be needed to dance the Maypole.
Ribbon will be available to purchase for $4.00 per piece.
There will also be a children's Maypole.

This is a public park and alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Please be advised that the weather is still unpredictable this time of year. Coats, sweaters, sunglasses and umbrellas for sun protection could all be feasible options. Please be prepared.

We are still accepting vendor applications for Beltaine in the Park.

Event
Details: Beltane was a time of fertility and unbridled merrymaking,
when young and old would spend the night making love in the Greenwood.
Older married couples were allowed to remove their wedding rings (and
the restrictions they imply) for this one night. Women traditionally
would braid flowers into their hair. Men and women alike would decorate
their bodies. They would process back home, stopping at each house to
leave flowers, and enjoy the best of food and drink that the home had to
offer. In every village, the maypole, usually a birch or ash pole, was
raised, and dancing and feasting began. Many communities elected a
virgin as their "May Queen" to lead marches or songs. To the Celts, she
represented the virgin goddess on the eve of her transition from Maiden
to Mother. Depending on the time and place, the consort might be named
"Jack-in-the-Green", "Green Man", "May Groom", or "May King". The union
of the Queen and her consort symbolized the fertility and rebirth of the
world. This is the Love Dance of the Gods, the Wedding of Heaven and
Earth, the Bridal feast of the Goddess! It is customary that
Handfastings, for a year and a day, occur at this time. These are trial
marriages that typically occur between couples before deciding to embark
on life eternal. It was understood by our ancestors that one does not
really know another until they live with them, and things change. With
this understanding, unions were entered upon, first with a test period,
and then a further commitment. It was kept in mind that only through the
choice of both to remain, could the relationship exist. We will be
dancing the Maypole and Jumping the Cauldron.

Event Details: Monday May 2, 2011 - Beltane / May Day Celebration - Join Lady Hawke, Sambina and Sam Hain as we dance around the May Pole to celebrate Beltane! There will be rituals, a meditation, an open circle, and a feast. There will be free seeds for you to plant for a magical garden and a surprise gift. Please bring in food or drink to share. No Alcohol please.

If you have a chalice please bring it, if you do not, a cup will be provided.

The Magic Monday Club was started in 1991 as a safe haven, where beginners & practitioners of the craft could go and discuss Witchcraft, Magickal, & New Age topics. Over the years we try to keep the club a positive, fun group while bringing a greater knowledge and understanding to all. We have open discussions, or we may have a guest teacher. We celebrate the Sabbats & all are welcomed to join in the rituals. Good magic only.

yearâ€™s May Day Fairie Festival will be held at Spoutwood Farm on April
29th 2011 from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and April 30th and May 1st 2011 from
10:00 AM to 6:00 PM each day.

Admission is $15 for people over 12, $5 for people 12 and under, and free for those 2 and under.

A
three-day pass is available for a reduced price of $30...the three day
pass can also be used to get through the gates quicker, even if you are
only using it for two of the days.

south of York, PA. Parking will be available near the farm.

The
May Day Fairie Festival is the brainchild of Rob and Lucy Wood, owners
of Spoutwood Farm, an organic farm in the Community Supported
Agriculture movement. It began as a party for about 100 friends, and was
has been celebrated by 16,000 â€œfriendsâ€ of the little people from the
local area, all across the US and across the Atlantic. Previously a
one-day festival, a second and third day were added as a response to the
festivalâ€™s rising popularity.

Once again, the festival will
celebrate the beginning of spring and all of the nature spirits return
to the warm world with 70 arts and crafts vendors (mostly featuring
handmade art inspired by the little people), performances by musicians
and dancers, storytellers, participatory maypole dancing, fairie craft
activities such as wand and garland making (involves a small fee), food
vendors, fairie and other nature spirit environments to explore, a
Nature Place offering a place for environmental, health, animal interest
and other groups to share their vision, fairie and gnome habitat tours,
fairie tea parties, guest appearances by the Green Man, the Mossmen,
Sweet Pea and others.

Families attending this event have discovered that this event is not just for kids!

The
fairie and May Day themes go back to ancient times in almost all
cultures, especially to the Celts of the British Isles who had a
festival on the first of May called Beltane. It was a time of great
rejoicing at the return of the earth's abundance in spring and the
impending bounty of summer. The Celts celebrated the spirits of nature
by honoring not only the plants that they could see and smell but also
the unseen beings of the fairie realm.

I am very pleased to announce that in May, 2011 I shall lead not one but two Prosperity Classes. The first one is a Prosperity and Abundance Event for Abundant Finances and the second one is a Prosperity and Abundance Event on Love.

On Friday, May 6, 2011, 7-10PM I shall lead a Prosperity and Abundance Event for Abundant Finances. Waking

            My own, personal spiritual quest has been driven by a burning need to find the answers to two questions:
            1) Why is our society so screwed up? and
            2) Why are people such assholes?
            After many years of contemplating and channeling, and delving into Buddhism, Taoism, and Carlos Castandeda, I have arrived at satisfactory answers to both of those questions. To make a long story short, the attention necessary to participate in waking reality (everyday society) is focused by everybody constantly pinching themselves and pinching each other to stay awake all day long. If we all stopped the constant fussing and fuming and hassling ourselves and each other for only a minute, then what we consider to be "reality" would collapse back into what it actually is: a dream. Just as the capitalistic economy is driven by dissatisfaction (if everyone felt happy and content and complete all the time, it would be terrible for the economy); so too, in exactly the same fashion, is waking consciousness â€" everyday society â€" driven by dissatisfaction. To be able to stay awake for 16 hours running is quite exhausting. The
only way we adults can keep it up is by battening down our hatches, turning ourselves OFF, hunkering down, and grimly bearing it.
            In comparison with an infant, whose senses are keen, alert, and alive, we adults are like zombies whose senses are so dull that we seem to move about in a drugged stupor.   Adults don't see much of what goes on in the world around us. We are immersed in our thoughts; we're in a hurry. A pretty leaf lying on the sidewalk doesn't have much importance in our scale of values. Moreover, we turn aside from any sight which might tend to make us feel. When we look at other people, for example, we can only see the most superficial details of their physical appearance; we can't let ourselves feel with them (feel what they are feeling).
            Nor do adults customarily hear anything of the world except for the dull drone of talk or the constant repetition of the same music. We only hear what we want to hear â€" we've lost the infant's        sense that the world is serenading us all the time. To an infant, the world is always new and vivid:   every pleasant taste is orgasmic; every fresh smell is orgasmic; every soft sound is orgasmic; every gentle touch is orgasmic.
            Perhaps our greatest sensory distortion of all is reflected in the way we adults touch the world around us, perhaps because of all the senses, touch is the closest to feeling. The chief reason we wear clothes in warm weather, when it would be more comfortable to go naked, is to dull our sense of touch. Wearing clothes does mask our vulnerability (provides us with a screen behind which we can hide from other people), but its main function is to cut off our feeling of the world â€" the dance of the breeze across our skin, the warmth of sunlight, the thrill of raindrops. We bundle ourselves up against the cold to dull our awareness of the chill of death, to soothe ourselves into a stupor, while children play joyously outside in their shirtsleeves. It's not that children don't feel the cold or are too stupid to put on a coat â€" it's that the cold is their friend. We adults have made it our enemy.
            We prefer comfort to touching. In particular, our use of shoes (except when our feet really do need protection) is an egregious waste of precious healing energy which the earth would otherwise give us through our feet. We cut ourselves off from all direct contact with the earth, our mother, and then we wonder why we feel like lost children in an alien environment.
            We also disconnect ourselves from the things in our world: we grab things, bandy them about, and throw them down. We don't have a feeling of relationship with the things about us the way an infant does. Feeling connected means, that instead of treating things as insensible objects, treating them as if they were as capable of feeling as we are.       A sailor knows that his ship loves him; a child knows her dolls are alive; and most of us have at one time or another felt emotionally intimate with our automobiles. These feelings are no mistake â€" this is true mingling with the objects in our environment, relating to the world on a basis of true feelings, as an infant or magician does, rather than on a basis of thought forms (learned concepts, such as that a car is just a "car", and any feelings we are picking up from it are just our imagination). This is where each of us must begin again to learn to love, because
if we can't love inanimate things, which have no malign intent, there's no hope of our ever learning to love something as bewilderingly complex as a human being.
            This means paying attention to what we're doing when we are touching or handling things; being grateful to our tools for the help they give us; lifting things gently and placing them where we want them; dealing with them with the same delicacy and respect with which we ourselves would prefer to be treated. We toss things about carelessly or leave things in a mess, and then wonder why we feel that life is tossing us about like an insensible object, and why our life is a mess. We can't make that connection in our minds, of where those feelings are coming from.
            Our adult concept of ownership â€" our belief that we possess objects â€" is one of the main ways we cut ourselves off from them. Indeed it is more true to say that they possess us â€" they have us in thrall to our fear of losing them; and they know it; and we know they know it. We become ashamed to face the objects in our environment, and we close our hearts to them by proclaiming that we "own" these "insensible" objects, therefore we are better (more important) than they are. We feel ashamed because we know we have betrayed ourselves, betrayed our own true feelings, in exchange for some pathetic sense of glory (note that in Mayan society, by contrast, possessions â€" particularly the tools used in daily work and food preparation â€" are regarded as alive, and must be treated with respect and propitiated ritually, or else they turn against their owner).
            The feeling of importance, which is the principle that undergirds focus and thus is the basic building block of adult (waking) consciousness, has two manifestations: shame and glory. These chase each other around in an endless circle, and generate the energy necessary to drive importance. That is, they keep the attention occupied in an endless loop. When attention is caught in an endless feedback loop â€" a self-reflection in an endless series of mirrors â€" it takes on a frantic urgency which we feel as importance.   We feel that it is important to seek glory and to hide shame.
            We are taught to feel the validation of our conceptual thought forms by other people as glory; and to feel the beckoning of our own true feelings as shame. We are taught to seek the one and to hide the other: to deny our senses and true feelings, and to substitute instead a phoniness which other people will applaud. It is an endless loop because glory cannot be arrived at without shame: to seek glory is to seek a lie, and lies bring about feelings of shame because we know in our hearts that we are not what we claim to be â€" more important than anything else.
            Now while it is true that most human societies have historically recognized the need for a sense of importance in order to focus individual and group attention, not all societies implemented importance by setting up a shame / glory cycle. Indeed, there have been human societies on earth in ancient times which consisted of enlightened beings who set up and defended schemata of importance categories, but more as art for art's sake rather than something to shed blood, sweat, and tears over. These societies played life more as a game than we do; the individual was motivated because he or she believed things were important (as in our society), but importance was based on the best allocation of energy resources in the now moment, the most skillful employment of whatever opportunities were at hand, rather than the reduction of all the joy in life to a striving for glory and hiding shame. They buttressed importance with competence
and self-love.
            Be that as it may, our society took the glory road, in which importance is equated with personal glory (approval by the social group) and hiding shame (stifling one's own true feelings). In our society, the driving force which runs the spinning wheel of shame and glory and thereby buttresses importance is not competence, but irresponsibility; not self-love, but self-hatred.   Self-hatred is the glue which binds our society together, and which enables us all to deny our own senses for the common weal. Its basic component is the assumption that what we do when we're awake is more important (more real) than what we do when we're asleep.
            A human being does not naturally sleep all through the night and stay awake all day long. Our hunter ancestors, like infants, slept off and on when they felt like it, and divided their sleeping and waking hours indiscriminately between day and night. Although our vision is keener during the day, our feelings are keener at night, in the dark. An infant isn't afraid of the dark; on the contrary, to him it is reminiscent of the peaceful, enjoyable, warm state he knew in the womb. He finds the daylit world jangly and nerve-wracking. Only later, when his mother has become the most important thing to him â€" far more important than his own feelings â€" does the dark become a forbidding place, since he can no longer see his mother (since he can no longer feel her). Adults are the ones who are afraid of the dark, though they repress this fear and laugh at the children who act it out openly for them. They are afraid of the
dark because they are afraid of feeling their own feelings; and because they are afraid of feeling their own feelings, they hate themselves.
            It is far more natural for a person to sleep on and off during the day, and to be awake on and off at night. A person vents a great deal of anger, fear, impatience, etc. by being able to sleep it off. In cultures where they take a siesta during the day, the pace of life is generally more relaxed than in countries where people relentlessly drive themselves all day long every day.
            Sleep is the ultimate conservation of health â€" the feeling of inner balance and stability. Instead of fighting sleep with drugs, caffeine, or busyness; instead of holding the daylit world to be supremely important and the world of sleep wasted time; we should allow our bodies to dictate when and where we should sleep. In dreamless sleep we make the deepest contact with our love for ourselves; by cutting ourselves off from sleep, we cut ourselves off from self-healing and self-love. The main cause of our self-hatred, the chief reason we are all so neurotic and out of kilter with our world, is because we've been awake too long.

Almanac for May 2011

The purpose of this almanac is to list the most important astrological events each month to help you plan your life in harmony with cosmic currents. You can easily select the best times each month to advance, hold back, confront, avoid, accept, refuse, yield or stand your ground, in order to enhance your chances of success.
Mutual transits are points of inflection, or moments when things could go one way or the other. Often on these days something is discovered, some truth revealed, or a new door opens to us. There are days with favorable times to begin new ventures, to approach others for favors, to initiate healing, to pray or cast spells, to energize amulets and crystals, and so forth. Conversely, in the case of inharmonious aspects, avoidance of these activities is recommended.
What we are trying to do is to tune into the ambient rhythms of the cosmos. We tend to be alienated from the universal harmonies because of our stressful life styles: we feel disconnected, isolated, powerless, adrift and alone in an uncaring universe. We have lost our sense of being part of an eternal, ongoing process.
Astrology can help us to regain our sense of connection to the universe and to the earth by teaching us how to look at our daily lives as a series of lessons. Astrology teaches detachment: we learn that by paying attention to and adapting to the cosmic rhythms, we can come to a deeper sense of connection to the universe and a greater sense meaning and purpose in our personal lives.
The table below includes transiting conjunctions and oppositions of the planets other than moon; Stationary Retrograde and Stationary Direct positions; and the Greatest Western and Greatest Eastern Elongation positions of Mercury and Venus. If the zodiacal degree of the transit conjoins or opposes a planet in your own natal horoscope within two degrees orb, then be alert to what happens this day (and the day before and after). This is a time when the universe sends you important new information. The nature of the event is symbolized by the transiting planet(s); the nature of your response is symbolized by the natal planet(s) at or opposed to the longitude of the transit.
            For example, on May 23, 2011 at 4:26 am Venus Conjunct Mars in 9 TA 01 is opposition Barack Obama's natal Neptune at 8 SC 36, which might bring the President a FORCEFUL, SOCIABLE event which heightens his ATTUNEMENT (a call for following his intuition in a minor social or family crisis).
To launch projects, make prayers, or cast spells, one should use the times in this table in conjunction with the Planetary Hours. Look for a relevant Planetary Hour within 24 hours before the exact time given in the table below. This table is in Eastern Time: in the Central time zone subtract an hour; in the Mountain time zone subtract two hours; in the Pacific time zone subtract 3 hours; from the times listed here.             To make a prayer or cast a spell (for detailed information see the BOS file posted at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MagicalAlmanac/files/Magic%20101/): at the chosen time clear your mind, light a candle and make a fervent, heartfelt wish â€" imagine the scene of your wish coming true as though it were happening right now, all around you. If other people are involved (e.g., if asking for a favor), imagine that you are looking them right in the eye and talking to them as if they were right there in front of you. Let yourself feel the feelings you actually would feel if your wish were to come true. Then watch closely to see how the candle burns: if it's difficult to light it, then it will be difficult for your wish to come true. If the flame burns steadily and brightly, the wish will come true. If the flame smokes or is feeble, or the candle falls over, forget it.

Geodetic Equivalents

            Our choice of which house system to use not only determines how we should calculate horoscopes, but also how we should calculate primary directions, Arabian parts, and astrolocality maps as well. By the same logic, our choice of house system also determines how we should calculate geodetic equivalents. In this article I will describe two theories of geodetic equivalents which have been propounded by previous authors (Sepharial and Johndro), as well as a new approach to the question.

Sepharial's Method

            Astologers (like most people) like things simple and clear-cut. They don't want to know that there are a myriad of different possible ways of performing the same calculations, and that there is no a priori reason for preferring one way over another. For example, they use Placidus houses because until very recently those were the only kind of house tables available, which was the result of a decision made by some ignoramus several centuries ago. Similarly, they use Sepharial's method of calculating geodetic equivalents because Sepharial was the first to publish a book on the subject, and he calculated them the way he did because he didn't know (or care) enough about mathematics to calculate them any other way.
            In Sepharial's method the terrestrial longitude of a place east of Greenwich is equated to zodiacal longitude. For example, the terrestrial longitude of Berlin is 13E23, so its zodiacal longitude is taken to equal 13AR23. For locations west of Greenwich, the terrestrial longitude is first subtracted from 360, and then equated to zodiacal longitude (e.g. the terrestrial longitude of Washington equals 77W01; 360 â€" 77W01 = 282-59 = 12CP59). The zodiacal longitudes of place obtained in this fashion are considered to be Midheavens; a table of houses is consulted with this Midheaven and the terrestrial latitude of the place to obtain an Ascendant (e.g. Berlin's latitude = 52N30, so its ASC = 6LE10; Washington's latitude = 38N53, so its ASC = 23AR11).
            Sepharial's method is the most popular one in use among earthquake predictors (see e.g. articles by Jim Haynes in Considerations vm. VI no.2, and Ann Parker in Mercury Hour 25/X/39). However, from a mathematical point of view, this method is a mish-mash for the following reasons:
1)       Terrestrial longitude corresponds to right ascension in the sky, not zodiacal longitude (since both terrestrial longitude and right ascension are measured in the plane of the earth's equator, whereas zodiacal longitude is measured in the plane of the ecliptic). To impose an ecliptic measurement on the earth's equator is to badly jumble the geometric symbolism.
2)       To then derive an "Ascendant" from such a "Midheaven" is a completely fictitious calculation: you can plug numbers into it and get numbers out of it, but its GIGO â€" it isn't a valid geometrical model because it doesn't describe anything that's actually going on out there in an astronomical sense.
3)       The choice of the Greenwich meridian baseline (Greenwich = 0 degrees Aries) is wholly arbitrary and unfounded, again because it doesn't model any geometrical or geophysical reality.

Johndro's Method

            A correct method of calculating geodetic equivalents is the same as a method of calculating astrolocality maps for a universal house system for a given Sidereal Time. A universal house system is one in which the projection poles don't depend upon a given place of birth. There are two such house systems: Meridian (which includes Alcabitius as a subset), which projects from the north pole (of the earth or sky); and Morinus (which includes Equals and Porphyry as subsets) which projects from the ecliptic pole (of the earth or sky).
            The Johndro method of calculating geodetic equivalents is the same thing as a Meridian (Astro*Carto*Graphy) astrolocality map, for one of two fixed Sidereal Times. In the course of his career Johndro advocated two possible Sidereal Times, switching back and forth as he discovered that neither one of them worked very well (see Geoffrey Dean, Recent Advances in Natal Astrology, page 193). Johndro's pyramid baseline system uses an ST = 1h 56m 40s on the Greenwich meridian (in 1930; or ST = 1h 59m 52s in 1992). This method puts the Aries point on the earth's equator at 29 degrees 58 minutes west longitude in 1992. Supposedly the Aries point was located on the meridian of the Great Pyramid at the time it was built, and has receded westward in the interim due to precession. Later Johndro switched from the pyramid baseline, i.e. an ST = 0h 0m 0s at Greenwich (which doesn't move due to precession).
            Using the pyramid baseline, the right ascension of a place on earth is equal to 29°58' (in 1992) plus the terrestrial longitude of the place east of Greenwich. For example, the terrestrial longitude of Berlin is 13E23; 29-58 + 13-23 = 43-21, which is taken to be the RAMC of Berlin. From a table of houses for the latitude of Berlin (52N30) we find that this RAMC corresponds to an MC of 15TA49 and ASC of 27LE40.
            Using the Greenwich baseline, the right ascension of a place on earth is equal to its terrestrial longitude east of Greenwich. Again, a table of houses is consulted for the latitude of the place to obtain values for the MC and ASC (in the case of Berlin, an RAMC of 13-23 at 52N30 yields an MC = 14AR32 and an ASC = 6LE55).
            Although Johndro's method (unlike Sepharial's) is based on a correct astronomical model, the use of a Greenwich baseline is wholly arbitrary and unfounded; and the use of a pyramid baseline, while not unfounded (since it does align with an actual feature on the earth) is still arbitrary. Why not use Stonehenge; or the Potala Palace; or Disneyland? Also, the notion that the baseline moves along the earth's equator due to precession is an arbitrary and unfounded assumption.
            Moreover, in deriving his Ascendants Johndro employed geocentric rather than geographic latitude, which is manifestly incorrect. Geographic latitude should be used in all celestial sphere calculations (see Robert Hand, Essays, page 49; or my book Primary Directions, page 9, for a refutation).
            It is not surprising, therefore, that Johndro could not obtain satisfactory results from either of his systems.

Zodiacal Method

            The other universal house system is that of Morinus, which gives rise to the Zodiacal method of calculating astrolocality maps, and which can be used in turn to obtain a system of Zodiacal geodetic equivalents once we specify a Sidereal Time. In this case, however, we do have one obvious baseline at our disposal which is not wholly arbitrary and unfounded.
            In Zodiacal astrolocality maps we project from the north ecliptic pole, which is located at a terrestrial latitude of co-obliquity (about 67 degrees north) and which sweeps around the 67th parallel in the course of 24 hours. If we place the north ecliptic pole on the meridian of the north magnetic pole, then we've got a system of geodetic equivalents which makes some kind of logical sense (which is not to say that it would work in practice).
            The earth's magnetic poles move over time; in 1992 the north magnetic pole was located at 104W18, 78N24; and the south magnetic pole was located at 138E42, 64S42. In 2001 the north magnetic pole was located at 110W48, 81N18; and the south magnetic pole was located at 137E52, 64S32. The rather rapid movement of the magnetic poles leads to rapid changes in the zodiacal longitude of a place on earth over time (see last two columns of table below for 1992 and 2001 figures, respectively).
To calculate the Zodiacal longitude for a given place on earth, we identify the longitude of the north magnetic pole with an RAMC of 270 (which is the RAMC of the north ecliptic pole). In other words, we use the Zodiacal Longitude of Place Algorithm (on page 136 of the appendix of my Primary Directions book, which is downloadable for free from: http://www.dearbrutus.com/buyprimarydirections.html) with a birthplace longitude of 104W18 (1992) or 110W48 (2001) and an ST = 18 hours. To project with the south magnetic pole, we go into the Zodiacal Longitude of Place Algorithm with a birthplace longitude = 138E42 (1992) or 137E52 (2001) and an ST = 6 hours.
            The main theoretical objection to this system of geodetic equivalents is that the north and south magnetic poles do not lie exactly opposite one another on the earth; and neither one lies on the 67th parallel (though they're close to it).
            It has been suggested by Bob Wachtel (co-author of the Occidental Table of Houses that average values of the magnetic poles be computed by "smoothing out" the locus of points equidistant from the two magnetic poles to make a great circle on the earth.
            It has also been suggested that the north magnetic pole be used to calculate Zodiacal longitudes for places on earth in the northern hemisphere, and that the south magnetic pole be used for places in the southern hemisphere; presumably one would split the difference for points on the equator.
            Unlike the Sepharial and Johndro methods, the Zodiacal method yields only one Zodiacal longitude for each place on earth, rather than two (an "MC" and "ASC"). Here is a table for several places on earth, with zodiacal longitudes computed according to each system (in the case of the Sepharial and Johndro methods, only the "MC"s are given, not the "ASC"s):

Statement of Purpose:

In point of fact, this ezine is not about magic, or paganism, or shamanism, or witchcraft; it's not even about astrology. It's not about belief systems at all â€" rather, it's about getting beyond belief systems and analyzing what's really going on beneath the surface. What is the point of rejecting one false belief system â€" the materialism which was inculcated into most of us from childhood â€" only to adopt another false belief system? All belief systems are false, because what's really going on out there in the universe has nothing to do with belief (mind). The universe is made of feelings (intent); not objects (thought forms). The only cogent reason to adopt a variant belief system from the one in which most of us were raised is to provide a counterpoint or contradiction â€" another point of view â€" which will allow us to weasel between the two and ultimately not rely upon beliefs at all.
Although we have been taught that we are abiding, separated individuals embedded in a matrix of space and time, the fact is that this is indeed merely a (false) belief. As explained in the essay on Channeling Spirit Guides*, "In fact, our existence is multidimensional. We not only exist in an infinite number of past and future lives, but we are also infinitely ramified in all the probable realities which branch off from this present lifetime. â€¦Â Not only that, but within the confines of a single probable reality of a single lifetime, which is all we normally pay attention to or consider to be `ourselves', we are still multiple personalities. That is to say, we are not the same person from moment to moment, but in fact shift from one to another subpersonalities, or thought forms, in response to this or that changing stimulus. â€¦ (We) are not solid, continuing, individual beings, but rather are a flux of thought forms (images, opinions,
beliefs, and expectations learned from our parents and society) being urged this way and that by spirit forces." Ponder these things well, because they are true.   The sooner each of us as individuals wakes up to this fact â€" that we are actually nothing buta momentary conjunction of tendencies â€" the sooner we can stop running about hither and thither and take command of our lives and destinies; and perhaps really accomplish something to save the earth and the human race. That's what the practice of magic is all about.

Personally, I try to find a walking pace with spirit in the sense that
it should always be there in it's natural fashion. I grew up in a very restricting
religion that saw free flowing spirit as a scary thing and so Spirit could only come from one
source, one group of people had access to it and everyone else had to look to them.
(All the while, true Spirit trips and swirls all around us, we walk with those that came before, who left before us and are waiting to walk these boards again. There are
Devas, Elementals and energy beings all around us.) Once I grew up and owned what I was, now it is all the same, Spirit, and the Spiritual is in everything to one
degree or another. I use my Spirit Path to plumb my course, if something doesn't feel right,
then it isn't for me. I seek to have my relationships built on a meeting of the Spirits, as we tend to get too caught up in our flesh form, and Spirit for me is like having the best glasses
to see far off and what is right in front of you.

How do people incorporate paganism into their mundane lives?
I am by nature quirky and love to have my surroundings filled with meaningful
and fun representations of how Spirit addresses this family. We have a blended family, in the sense that some of us are not Pagan, so we have to have a lighter hand with some of it, out of respect for others. I work in the artistic field so pretty much I am surrounded
all of the time with Spirit and Magick both through work and my family.

How do you work magic into your everyday mundane lives?

Art like everything else comes from energy, so being an artist to my way of thinking helps with incorparating magick into my whole life. I try not to really have a difference between mundane and magical. If I am drawing or designing I'm calling something special forth, if I'm cooking or cleaning, it is for people I love so it is magical. If I'm building or repairing something
it's for someone I love, making our place a better place. Of course I love the Sabbats and Esbats, but life is so much more than a few special times.

Do you have an altar at your place of work?
I work at home, and I keep my personal Altar in my bedroom, as does my sister, but we tend to decorate most of the home, to some extent Spiritually.

special circle being brought to Peaceful Paths by long-time
friends, Priestess Maeve & Priest Jack-In-The-Forest, on Earth Day
~4/22/11, in glorious celebration of the world of

As Beltane approaches and we make our
passage into the joyous growing season, come celebrate with us this magickal
time of "no time", when the veil between the material world and that of the Fey
grows thin and connections between the two realms can be made more
easily.

During this gathering, we will call in the
quarters, cast the circle, invoke Diety, participate with the talking stick and
celebrate with cakes/ale and song & dance! You'll receive information
about the energy of the Libra Full Moon/Aries Sun and use this energy to help
with the Faerie Magick of the night! We'll consecrate a Faerie altar and
you'll be given a trinket as an offering to the Fey. You'll have the
opportunity to choose a Magickal name and also receive a reading from the Faerie
Oracle by Brian Froud as well as a Full Moon Book of Shadows to record your Full
Moon experiences.

About Pomona: A Roman Goddess of orchards and gardens, Pomona is symbolized by all
gardening implements. Pomona's consort was Vertumnus, who likewise
presided over gardens. Together they embody the fruitful earth, from
which we gather physical and spiritual sustenance. First fruits are
traditionally offered to them in gratitude.

To Do Today: Public games in ancient Rome were dedicated to taking a much-needed
rest from toil and war. This particular segment of the festival
celebrated the beauty of flowers before people returned to the fields
and their labors. So, wear a floral or leafy print outfit today and
visit a greenhouse or an arboretum. Take time out to literally smell
the flowers and thank Pomona for the simple pleasure this provides.

Make yourself a Pomona
oil to dab on anytime you want to better appreciate nature or cultivate
some diversion from your normal routine. Prepare this from the petals
of as many different flowers as you can find, gathered early in the
day. Steep the petals in warm oil until they turn translucent, then
strain. Repeat and add essential oils (fruity ones for Pomona are
ideal) to accentuate the aroma and energy you've created.

rose, and some hard candy. Light the candle every day until it burns
down.

Spring's arrival brigs us back to life in many ways. Our animal bodies respond to the season's change; after the withdrawal of winter, we begin to open up again, to each other, to the world. It is the season of eggs and bunnies, both symbols of lusty energies and the urge for reproduction.

To hold oneself open to the delights that springtime offers means opening as well to risk. There is no way to know, at the beginning of a project or a relationship, how it will end. And not knowing the future can be a great gift, permitting us to live in the glorious present.
