Melbourne Reclaiming Public Samhain Gathering 7/5/11

Posted by: "SunBird" fimariposa@yahoo.com.au   fimariposa

Wed Apr 27, 2011 6:59 am (PDT)

Melbourne Reclaiming Public Samhain
Celebration
Saturday 7th May
7:30pm

@ Brunswick North West Primary School Hall
Culloden Street (Cnr Wales St), West Brunswick

Public Transport: Tram 55 (West Coburg), stops near corner of Culloden St and Melville Rd)
Parking available in Culloden and Wales Streets

$5 Entry (to cover hall
hire)
All Adult Pagans Welcome!

Join us for a celebration of Samhain.
At this magical time of year we honour our depths, as the seasons turn and
we journey into the dark time of year.  We also honour our roots and
celebrate our ancestral heritage, acknowledging the gifts of those who
have gone before.

What to bring:
A plate of
ancestor-inspired food to share. Drink to Share. No alcohol, no drugs.
Something
for the Ancestor Altar, e.g. a photo of a beloved ancestor

What to
expect:
Darkness is descending in Australia and at this
time of year we gather to honour our beloved dead. We cast the Circle,
ensuring it is secure. The priestess crone reads out names of our beloved
dead* followed by those who also wish to call upon their own beloved
dead.  We will honour our dead together and individually
we will have the opportunity to honour our ancestors at
each of the Elemental altars, under the care of a
priestess/grace. We will then close with a spiral dance
to celebrate those who came before us and those who will come
after us. Later, we will share a supper with all the souls who
gathered.

*If you wish
the crone to read out the names of your beloved dead, please
email their names, a short description/relationship/history/story to astrojazz@bigpond.com.au To
ensure correct pronunciation, please phonetically spell names that may be
difficult. This invitation extends to those who are unable to attend the
ritual.

Please Note: As
we will be doing extended trance work in the ritual, it will not be
appropriate for young children to attend.  However, teenagers are
welcome.

G'dday.

>Has anyone of the alternative faiths ever gone through the fertility olympics and found like minded persons to talk to? Is it a secret society or do no groups exist for pagan or pagan >friendly people to meet and discuss this?

I'm sure people of all stripes go through the "fertility olympics" (an expression I rather like). I wasn't aware that support groups were wholly denominational. Pagans who have real-world friendships with other Pagans can go to them, and to any groups that may or may not exist for people going through the same stuff whether or not tehy are Pagan, Christian, atheist or followers of the Great Purple Blurp.

>I have heard many a christian express their faith in their god along their journey. I have not heard many a pagan express their faith in the goddess for the same...

<cackle> You haven't been around me or any of my Pagan friends, then!

But if you are talking people who have been interviewed on TV for science shows about fertility and the IVF programme, I could imagine I'd be a bit shy, too, about thanking Pagan deities publicly. After all, religion, real religion is intensely personal and intensely sensitive, much more so than sex, and rarely are these interviews pornographic.

> I know there are many rituals, herbs, techniques etc that can be employed but I don't often hear anyone talk about them, or their spells, invocations and devotions to god/des/es.

Get treated by a naturopath, shaman or others alongside conventional treatments, and you will.

> Do we abandon our spirituality when it comes to our own physicality and its lack? Or does an infertile pagan/witch simply not exist?

Of course, I can only speak for myself, but no.

Do you?

Maybe you are hanging out in the wrong circles, Minka, or expecting to perceive as how they add up to your Christianity example.

As there are many forms of Paganism, expect that there will be many different ways in which people relate to their Deity ... including what appears to be an increasing trend to view Deity as merely an "archetype".

BB - Frances

BTW - many Pagans I know also express their "faith" in the divine masculine as well.

And since the subject is 'fertility', many also 'have faith in', or 'worship', or invoke, or evoke the divine duality!

Updated resources at the PAN website

Wed Apr 27, 2011 11:34 pm (PDT)

Hi all,

With Samhain coming up and various groups advertising publicly-run events, the Pagan Awareness Network has released a new edition of its Safety in the Circle leaflet.

This leaflet gives information on identifying and dealing with the minority in the Pagan scene who engage in predatory behaviour.

We have expanded the leaflet to include information on monetary issues and over-charging for events and services - financial as well as sexual predators.

The leaflet is available for free at the PAN website:

We have expanded the leaflet to include information on monetary issues and over-charging for events and services - financial as well as sexual predators.

We have also emphasized the importance of being willing to go to the Police if anyone sees anything illegal - predators rely on the unwillingness of people to get involved to continue their toxic activities.

The leaflet is available for free at the PAN website:

Hi Gavin

Wonderful couldn't agree with you more
Safety & a full understanding on all levels of whats expected & offered at
different public pagan gatherings is paramount.

Including explanations & understandings as to relevant & necessary costs of
facilitating some events & also importantly just what constitutes a
predator.

I look forward to reading PAN's updated information.

Sincerely

Lizzy Rose

May the Goddess Bless all those who do her work )O(

Well, thank you for saying so!

Please feel free to download the pamphlet and distribute it to everyone you can - especially newcomers to the Pagan scene.

It goes without saying you'll be performing an invaluable service. Kudos.

Hi Gavin.

The leaflet addresses a very difficult can of worms, and does so pretty well IMO.

Bill.
