Daily Cosmic Calendar for Wednesday, April 13
The universe's penchant for being manic-depressive has been clearly in evidence for the first two weeks of April. Here is another example today.
The Moon in Leo forms flowing trines of 120-degrees to Mercury in Aries (1:49AM PDT) and Jupiter in Aries (3:51AM PDT). These two sky patterns are robust deliverers of potential success on the educational, literary and publishing fronts. However, for whatever reason, the celestial powers-that-be insist on offering up a Mars-Saturn contra-parallel formation (3:44AM PDT) right in between the two lunar harmonious contacts.
Mars and Saturn battling each other is nothing to write home about and this clash of solar systemic bodies can wreak havoc on many levels of being and consciousness. Some added tensions arrive on the scene as the Sun makes a frictional, 45-degree link to usually-nurturing Ceres (5:07AM PDT) while the Moon and Venus form an off-kilter, 150-degree tie (8:34AM PDT).
Then the universal shift happens again where fortunate vibes increase - thanks to a flowing trine between the Moon and Sun in fire signs (12:59PM PDT) and as Venus parallels Chiron (1:45PM PDT) followed by Mercury contacting Vesta in an inspirational, 72-degree aspect (2:42PM PDT). It would seem that around these time-periods a new glow appears and good fortune is flashing like a neon sign.
However, the Moon-Sun harmonious trine at 12:59PM PDT has a little trickery up its sleeve as it also starts a void lunar cycle in Leo that lasts until 11:41PM PDT. Therefore the Venus-Chiron and Mercury-Vesta connections - that can bring in waves of healing for love bonds and opportunities in business/investment matters - are somewhat weakened.
Plus - anytime a void Moon comes to call, uncertainty trumps assertion, creating a more sidelines-mentality than a gung-ho, forward-momentum initiative. By 11:41PM PDT, the Moon enters meticulous and industrious Virgo for the next 48 hours.

The problem is that none of us has ever attended any kind of Pagan ritual, so we're really at a loss as to how to plan one. Is there a certain agenda we need to follow, or should we just wing it?"
Typically, if you're part of an established tradition, there's a very specific format you would follow. However, there are plenty of people in the Pagan community who are not part of established traditions, or they're creating their own system of worship. Although I hate to jump into the "do what feels right" camp, ritual creation really is a situation where you should do what works best for you and the other people participating, unless there's a specific rule in your tradition establishing how you should set up ritual work.
A formal, structured coven may have a specific agenda that is always followed. In your case, with it being a more casual group, you may just decide to get together and keep things informal. Either way, it's a really good idea to plan things ahead of time, even if it's just a situation where someone says, "Okay, first we'll cast a circle, then we'll have our Sabbat rite, then we'll close up and have refreshments." This way, everyone involved knows what to expect. If you're going to have other people participate, it's only courteous to let them know ahead of time so they can prepare. The Sun, Moon, and Rising Sign in Astrology
Sun
The Sun Sign is what most people are aware of because it is easy to calculate and used most frequently by the general population.
The symbolism associated with this planet shows us how we consciously express ourselves - I liken the process of discovering our 'Sun' to the process of individuation as described by Carl Jung. Depending on the placement of the Sun and its relationship to the other planets this may be a process that is easy or difficult. The actual Sun itself I relate to the animus.
Men tend to associate with the Sun more naturally/easily than woman because it is a masculine energy and psychologically represents the father and authority figures as well as identity and ego. Other keywords associated with the Sun include vitality and purpose.
In a woman's chart the Sun can represent what type of characteristics she finds attractive in a partner or that she experiences through her father and other important men in her life.
Moon
The Moon changes sign roughly every 2 1/2 days, depending on how fast it is traveling at the time. In Jungian terms I feel there is a strong link between the Moon and the anima.
Unconscious actions can be attributed to the Moon as well as feelings and needs. Instinct, emotions, nurturing and the feminine qualities are also represented by this point in the birth chart. The Moon shows us how we instinctively respond on a feeling level when we are being creatures of habit.
While the Sun strives to be different, the Moon symbolizes relationship and merging of identity.
Usually a woman will associate with her Moon sign because it is a feminine energy.
Men may experience the symbolism represented by the Moon through their relationship with the mother or nurturing figure while growing up. When it comes to relationships a man usually seeks out the themes represented by the Moon's placement within his birth chart.
Rising Sign (Also Known as the Ascendant)
Since the Rising Sign is calculated using the exact time of birth, e.g, the moment a person entered the world, then this point in the birth chart symbolizes the environment a person is born into. It can also describe the birthing process itself!
I use this point in the chart as an indication of not only what type of environment a person is born into, but also as a guide to how others first experience the individual.
Psychologically speaking, the Rising Sign indicates the type of persona (another term used by Jung) an individual has created for dealing with the world and others in general. In other words our Rising Sign is the 'mask' we wear when having to deal with new situations, people and the world in general.
Physically it can describe what a person looks like as well as the type of health issues an individual may face at some point in their lives.
