*puts on her MOD hat* It's a spam bot which has somehow managed to get hold
of people's accounts and then starts automatically sending things like that
out to anything in their address books. Unfortunately, the accounts
targeted seem to be older accounts. With few exceptions, members stay
moderated only for the first week or so to ensure that they are not trolls
or spammers or intent on disrupting the group. The accounts in question
have sometimes been signed to the list for years. When we see them, we put
them in moderation to see if more like it will come through. If that
happens, the person is unsubbed to prevent it happening again.

If it is a virus, spam or anything else they obviously won't mention what it
is.
It happen to me I accidenlty hit ome of those links while using blackberry(a
smart phone) when I was trying to delete it & it got my information just the
same and I went thru a heck of an ordeal to try to fix it and thankfully
since I contacted all of my groups I wasn't kicked out of any of them
But I do agree these emails are coming in with way more frequency than in
years past
Hope you all keep your accounts safe

I am wondering why the people who send these links don't at least give us a clue as to what they are sending. I will not open any link that someone doesn't tell me what I might be opening. Just to send it as unknown, even through a group that I belong to, seems kind of iffy to me. I probably just dump a lot of really cool links because of this. Am I the only one that this bothers? Will keep deleting until senders give me a clue as to what I am opening. Thanks for listening.

As Fran explained, these are spambots that get into one's account and sends mail to anyone on that person's contact list. There is nothing that we, as moderators, can do until after it has happened. It would be impossible to moderate each message that comes through this group of almost 1400 people.

Elder's Meditation of the Day
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Wed Oct 6, 2010 11:11 pm (PDT)
Elder's Meditation of the Day - October 6
"Lots of people hardly ever feel real soil under their feet, see plants grow except in flower pots, or get far enough beyond the street light to catch the enchantment of a night sky studded with stars. When people live far from scenes of the Great Spirit's making, it's easy for them to forget His laws."
--Tatanga Mani (Walking Buffalo), STONEY
Nature is life's greatest teacher. The natural laws are hidden in nature. Hidden are solutions to everyday problems such as; conflict resolution, how to forgive, lessons about differences, how to manage organizations, how to think. Hidden are feelings. You can look at something and you will feel it. At night, have you ever looked at the sky when there are no clouds? As you look at all the stars, your heart will become very joyful. You will walk away feeling joyful and peaceful. We need to visit nature so we can see and feel these things.
My Creator, let me learn nature's lessons.

'All Soul's Night'
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Wed Oct 6, 2010 11:22 pm (PDT)
'All Soul's Night' by Loreena McKennitt
It has become a tradition for me to dance to this song after we cast our Samhain circle. It has wonderful Middle Eastern rhythm and sound.
This is a great rendition of the song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=XtfqoWS3z90
ALL SOULS NIGHT
Words by music by Loreena McKennitt
Bonfires dot the rolling hills
Figures dance around and around
To drums that pulse out echoes of darkness
Moving to the pagan sound.
Somewhere in a hidden memory
Images float before my eyes
Of fragrant nights of straw and of bonfires
And dancing till the next sunrise.
CHORUS
I can see lights in the distance
Trembling in the dark cloak of night
Candles and lanterns are dancing, dancing
A waltz on All Souls Night.
Figures of cornstalks bend in the shadows
Held up tall as the flames leap high
The green knight holds the holly bush
To mark where the old year passes by.
CHORUS
I can see lights in the distance
Trembling in the dark cloak of night
Candles and lanterns are dancing, dancing
A waltz on All Souls Night.
Bonfires dot the rolling hillsides
Figures dance around and around
To drums that pulse out echoes of darkness
And moving to the pagan sound.
Standing on the bridge that crosses
The river that goes out to the sea
The wind is full of a thousand voices
They pass by the bridge and me

Tea Tree as you probably know is a great antiviral essential oil.
However, Niaouli ( Melaleuca viridiflora) which has antiviral
properties similar to Tea Tree, is actually considered more
effective at fighting viruses such as Herpes and it has a sweeter,
more pleasant smell.

Samhain Magic--Part 1
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Wed Oct 6, 2010 11:24 pm (PDT)
Samhain Magic--Part 1
The ancient Celts called Halloween by a different name. To them it was Samhain: New Year's Eve, a celebration of the dead, and a day for magic and divination all in one. Christianized western Europeans called the day that followed it All-Hallows and observed it with masses and mourning for the departed. Modern-day Mexicans call it the Day of the Dead, a day for partying and tidying the graves of relatives, eating skulls made of sugar, and leaving offerings for departed loved ones.
Today, the abundance of Witch figures may remind us of a time long ago when the Crone or wise Woman was revered instead of feared; glimmering jack-o'-lanterns are dim echoes of the candlelit spirit-guides that welcomed back dead relations for a little visit. Halloween, like several of our cultural holidays, still has some of the magical husk surrounding it, although much of the real juice has been drained away. But with the help of the Kitchen Goddess (and a little Autumn water-magic, we can refill Samhain from the sacred spring that never runs dry.
Samhain is both mysterious and friendly, an opportunity for us to come to an amicable understanding with death. In our culture--at once violent, death-haunted, and death-denying--we are taught to hate and fear death. Samhain helps us to make friends with death--and to honor Mystery.
Death can come in many forms. For years, my Samhain revolved around creating magical costumes with my young son for his trick-or-treat journey, and playing the divination games with him that would guide us in the coming year. This past Samhain, while my son, now a teenager, went out on the town with a can of shaving cream, my new sweetheart and I made an altar in the fireplace with photos of his father, who had died a month earlier. But I also went deep into my own dark: in the crumbling stone fireplace of the dirt-floored, rather creepy cellar in this old Colonial house, I made an altar. In it, I placed pictures of my son, his father, and me--reminders of my old family structure that has died. Giving myself time and space to grieve the loss of my old partnership was a healing way to begin the new year. By honoring death, we begin to build new lives over the bones of the old.
Kitchen Rituals for Samhain
We can start re-creating the Halloween holiday in the kitchen. Some of us like to hide little memento mori throughout the room on Samhain. Then, whenever we open a drawer--surprise!--there's a skull grinning up at us! Skeletons may lurk among the chrysanthemums, or peek out from ehind the butternuts, or dangle from a cabinet-pull, or sit with legs casually crossed on the plates inside dark cupboards. The element of the unexpected adds a lot to these gentle, humorous reminders of mortality.
Our kitchen altars are the right place for old photos or keepsakes that remind us of those who have died; Samhain is the time for making ancestor shrines, in the kitchen or anywhere else. Who were your relations? Where did they come from? How did they cook and what foods did they eat?
Today is the perfect day to set the table with those old plates or glasses that were left to you by your grandmother, your aunt, or your mother. Or try using some of their utensils. If you juice the lemon for Autumn Cider Dressing with an old wooden reamer--one that was held and used by hands that you loved--it will be amuch more meaningful process than simply geting out the electric juicer.
You could design an entire meal around the favorite recipes of your dead loved ones. Set an extra place for anyone who has died in the past year, or for a special relative or friend. Tell loving stories about them at dinner.

Who is Sam Hain?
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Wed Oct 6, 2010 11:27 pm (PDT)
Sam Hain
Who is this guy they call Sam Hain?
I see his name in witchy books;
But when I ask my witchy friends;
They just give me the strangest looks.
He seems to be so important;
And everyone knows him but me;
Each year they throw him a party;
It sounds like THE cool place to be!
When I ask my friends what he's like;
They all practically turn and run;
I need to get to know Sam Hain;
So I can join in all the fun!
I asked friends to introduce me;
I'll have to introduce myself;
'Cuz when I asked they looked at me;
As if I'm a demented elf!
So I searched the yellow pages;
I called up information too;
I just can't find this guy Sam Hain;
I surfed the web 'til I turned blue!
I've heard my witchy friends planning;
And although they'll think I'm a pain;
I'm going to crash his party;
Then I'll finally meet Sam Hain!

Samhain Tree
There are so many different things you can do for a Samhain tree. Start
by decorating your tree with little effigies of witches and black cats.
If you can't locate any ornaments like these, purchase Halloween
greeting cards with different covers. Cut out the pictures and fasten
them to posterboard for stability. Cut a small hole in the top and hang
them from different branches with black and orange ribbon.
Most craft and department stores now sell "Halloween" lights in different shapes. String these lights as you would "Christmas"lights. Instead of ribbons, beads, or garland, drape your tree in fake spider webs. Cover the entire tree. Remember, the more you stretch the webs out, the more realistic they look. Attach little plastic spiders into the web.
The little tissue ghosts you made as a child look fabulous on a Samhain tree. Gather two white tissues per ghost. Lay the first tissue out flat. Roll the second into a tight ball and place in the center of the first tissue. Gently squeeze the first tissue around the ball in the center. Tie it off with a thin black ribbon. With a felt pen, draw a little face on your ghost. Hang them from the branches.
For an interesting and unique Samhain tree topper, purchase a costume witch's hat. Simply set it over the top of your tree.

Lady Nightshayde
