Question about circle casting

Posted by: "crimsonregret79@gmail.com" crimsonregret79@gmail.com   heavens_angel5767

Sun May 22, 2011 10:31 am (PDT)

I was curious about circle casting. In the past year I have had very few circles cast due to limited space. What I am curious about is is it necessary to have your whole body in the middle of the circle. I have heard of people setting the candles on a table and standing next to the table, but still doing the circle the same as far as calling in the corners/elements ect. If I could do it like that I would do them more often, but I don't have the space or privacy for a circle where I have to be in the center.

Some people may physically show the circle to be cast, however it is not
necessary to actually cast. Casting a circle is using your energy to form sacred
space for your rituals or spells. You can place quarter candles anywhere you
want to if you are using them. They can be on a table or marking the outer
lining of the circle, it is up to you. You can also expand the circle to
encompass the entire room by simply imagining it to be so and extending your
energy outwards. You do not need tools to cast a circle, You only need your
mind, imagination and energy to get it done. You don't even need to "walk" the
circle, esp if you have limited space. Just simply imagine it in your mind and
make it so.

Just my thoughts.

Using intent and visualisation you can create an energy ball of white light. This energy ball can be stored in your energy centre. My store is in my solar plexus but could be in the third eye.

This ball can be expanded to surround you, you fill it with white light (visualisation) to cleanse it. It can be used as a shield against psychic attack by mirror plating it (visualisation again) This shield can be put in place or withdrawn by a click of the fingers,

The energy ball can also be used as your circle. Just open it, cleanse yourself of negative energy, set it as large as you like. Then call the quarters, using your own guardians. And you can invite your deities in.

as the circle (sphere actually) is centred in you it moves with you.

A good safety precaution is to use this circle at any public ritual. You are then cocooned if anything goes wrong in the larger circle that has been cast.

Wow thanks for the information that helps tremendously. I have avoided
doing this so many times due to thinking I had to do it one way and one way
only.

Thanks Colin! I have also been wanting to learn more about Deities. I have
a few books that cover them, but it seems overwhelming. I noticed lady
nightshayde posted about it yesterday, and it seemed a little more easy to
understand. So far I have just been using general terms for a god or
goddess, but I would like to work with particular ones. This is the first
group, or anything that I have gotten so much information so quickly from.
If I asked when I first started on this path I was always told to read this
book, or that book, with little help from the individual. I could get
advice, or an article on a spell, but that was about it. So thank you guys
so much. I really feel that I could learn so much more, and feel more
confident by reading all of your posts. Any other advice is much
appreciated.

There are no set rules in paganism or wicca or any other "earth" religion. If
someone tells you "you HAVE to do it one way", I would suggest quickly heading
in the opposite direction! :) There is no one way. Everyone does things the way
that feels right to them. And what feels right to me may be totally different
than what feels right to you. Just keep experimenting with different ideas until
you are comfortable on how you want to do things. Do as much research as you
can, read different authors and get different perspectives. If possible, try to
find a public ritual that you can attend and see how others do things.
Networking is a great tool to learn by. There are many different types of people
and paths on this list. So I am sure you will find many different ways of doing
the same thing. Good Luck.

Is there a particular god or goddess that calls to you? Does one pantheon (group
of gods from the same region) seem more interesting? If not, then do a process
of elimination. Start with one group, say the Greeks, Romans or Egyptians for
example and just start researching. Ask the god and goddess to "speak" to you
and let you know their names. Until you find a specific god or goddess there is
no reason you can't use the general terms of god or goddess.

Thanks Annette I was starting to worry about that. I thought maybe using
general terms might not get the desired results. There are a few that seem
to speak to me already. Most of the ones I am most interested in are in the
Greek Pantheon.

Thanks. I knew that everyone had different ways, but I have never even been
able to get that far (I mean as far as getting people to tell me much).
There is no public circles within 50 miles of me, so I havent had that
option unfortunately. I have always wanted to attend one though. So far I
have depended on books, the occasional website that didn't turn out to be a
pay site, and my ex husband who taught me what I do know.

My personal opinion is that you can cast a circle anywhere. I believe that any belief system is a state of mind, therefore allowing you to practice your beliefs anywhere, anytime.
Stressed out? Need to get rid of the source of the stress? Oh, darn, I'm at work!, what can I do? Use the bathroom stall.   :)  Worried about casting a spell in a public bathroom stall? Don't. No vocalization is needed. God/ss hears your thoughts just as well as your voice. God/ss also sees your visualizations.

Some books on God/sses have cross references so that you can look under a subject to find a God/ss that works with a particular subject. *Goddesses & Heroines* by Patricia Monaghan was a great starter book for me. The Goddesses listed are extensive and there is a section of subjects where Monaghan lists the Goddesses for that subject.
Personally I have a Deity that I relate well to. I use her as a *coverall* Deity.

There is a cumulative wealth of information on this list. Whatever your question, someone will have an answer.
But always remember  - we are all different - what is right for one may not feel right to you.
That is what is so awesome about following a Pagan path - not only is thinking for yourself acceptable, it's encouraged........

LOL

So, now I'm wondering something - since I'm still here, does that mean I'll have to suffer through mass destruction of the planet for 5 months? And then what happens on Oct 21st to those of us that were left behind??    :)

Oh, another question - since my kitties and bunnies are still here also, does that mean they are bad too?

This is all so confusing!  hehehe

Well, at least they got one thing right--October 21 is the day the Sun moves into the sign of Scorpio, sign of Death and rebirth, LOL! Figuratively, of course.

Who Is the Goddess?

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun May 22, 2011 2:37 pm (PDT)

And the Child asked the Maiden: Who is the Goddess?

The Maiden turned and replied: the Goddess is Pure. She is the first burst
of Life. She is untouched by Man. She is One who finds Joy in everything. She
is a Sister. She is a Child. She is One who is Servant to None for She has no
Consort and no Child. She is the Huntress. She is Innocence. She is Growth.

But the Child was unsatisfied. And the Child asked the Mother: Who is the
Goddess?

The Mother turned and replied: The Goddess is She who nurtures us. She keeps
us safe. She guides us. She is the One to whom we can turn. She is the
mother with the child at the breast. She is the pregnant woman. She is the One who
has the earth as her body, the full moon as her symbol. She is the One on
whom we depend for life. She sustains us. She is Life.

Still the child was unsatisfied. And the Child asked the Crone: Who is the
Goddess?

The Crone turned and replied: She is Death and Rebirth. She is the Wisdom
Collected over many Lives. She is All that has Happened. She is All that will
Happen. She is One who has come to the end of the Cycle. She is Feared by the
Young. She is the welcome Aid to those in Pain, to those who suffer. She is
the One to whom All turn when They no longer wish for the Life She has given
Them. She is Destruction in preparation for the New.

Still the Child was unsatisfied. The Child looked around but there was no
one else to ask. Finally the Child shouted: GODDESS! GODDESS, WHO ARE YOU?

The Goddess replied: I am the maiden. I am the mother. I am the Crone. I am
Diana. I am Isis. I am Kali. I am Birth. I am Life. I am Death. I am
Creation. I Sustain. I am the Destroyer. I am one Goddess. I am Thousands of Separate
Goddesses. I am in Everything. I am Everywhere. I am Eternal. I am in
Everyone. I am whoever You want me to be. I am in You.

And the Child was satisfied.

Shiva, The Oldest of the Gods

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun May 22, 2011 3:17 pm (PDT)

Shiva, The Oldest of the Gods

The ancient civilization of the Indus Valley sleeps deep beneath the
dust of the present-day nation of Pakistan. Though the people of the early
Indus cities are long gone, their ideas and beliefs gave birth to the great
spiritual traditions of India that remain powerful and strong to this
very day.

A wealth of clay seals survives from this ancient culture, many of
them depicting gods and rituals long forgotten. One such seal shows a man
with horns, seated cross-legged in the "lotus position," which is still
practiced by yogis. The seal is perhaps three thousand years old, and
although most of the goddesses and gods of the Indus remain mysterious to us, this one
is still worshipped by millions of people and is perhaps the oldest
deity to still command the devotion of mortals.

The horned god of the Indus is none other than Shiva, the Cosmic
Dancer. His name means "the auspicious one," for it is proper to speak only
of his benevolence, and not to draw too much attention to his wilder side.
One of his many names is Rudra, The Howler, for he is the power of the storm
and the howling winds. While his cosmic dance may sometimes bring worlds
into being, it may also sweep them away with the power of an atom bomb. As
scientist Robert Oppenheimer witnessed the first nuclear test in New Mexico,
he chanted the words of an ancient Sanskrit text: "I am become Shiva, destroyer
of worlds."

The god of the Indus is crowned with horns because he has a mystical
connection with animals, and with wilderness in general. Like Pagan
European gods such as Cernunnos, he is sometimes known as Lord of the
Animals. Shiva has no patience with cities and civilizations; his energy is
vested in the wild places of the world. Those who follow his path frequently
forsake all the comforts of home, setting forth to wander through forests and
mountains, sleeping on the ground, making friends with the wild beasts, and
meditating in caves and by the sides of streams. They turn aside from
marriage and sometimes child-rearing as well.

Though marriage may be forbidden to the wandering devotee of Shiva,
sex is not, for Shiva is the god of Tantra or sacred sexuality. His bride
is called Parvati, the Goddess of the Mountains, and their lovemaking is part
of the divine play of universal energy. In marriage, this divine sexual
play is dedicated to the good of society as embodied in the production of
children. To the Tantric adept, whether woman or man, sexuality is pure
ecstasy, a free flow of energy that partakes of mystical rapture and has
absolutely nothing to do with the bonds of marriage or the limitations of society. In
the same way, the stimulants that are forbidden to most Hindus are frequently
used by Shiva worshippers to attain mystical communion.

Yet it would be a mistake to imagine that all, or even most, of
Shiva's devotees are engaged in an endless party. Shiva is the god of yoga
as well, and those who have the mystical strength to turn away from the
world, to practice ascetic disciplines requiring complete control over mind and
body, are also his devotees. Perhaps it is for this reason that the oldest
of the gods is also called Mahadeva, which means "the Great God," for he
leads us to a life of magic and self-empowerment as well as inviting us to
take part in the dance of ecstasy.

Merry Meet Alyssa Rose and Welcome to 13 Witches.

In my Circle there are so many stories and so many traditions.

But, one in particular might interest you. There is a powerful and gracious
Witch, let's call her "M". You can not take a digital photo of "M" without
multiple orbs. When you do a closeup on the orbs, you can clearly see faces.
Most are native American and one in particular was a breaded man with ears
similar to a cow and short horns close to the scalp. I assure you that the
metaphysical or paranormal is real and that as you grow you will see and come to
know things which the mundane only read about in fiction.

Jump in everywhere you can as there is much to learn, much to do, and so much to
experience!

Brightest Blessings,
Stormy )O(

Life is a journey,
enjoy the ride ~
just avoid kissing the trail!

Merry Meet!

My name is Alyssa Rose and I have been practicing the Craft for approximately
eight years. I have been unable to find a coven in my area and so am very
excited to join yours!
I love learning about everything, and am currently trying expand my knowledge of
metaphysics. I believe very strongly in natural energies and cosmic balance,
but I am always looking to learn more in any area.
I am an avid believer of the gods and supernatural beings (i.e. faeries) and
their constant presence in our lives. I know that they have affected events
positively in my own life many times.
Thank you so much for allowing me to join your community and I look forward to
meeting all of you.
Blessed Be!

Basic Principles and Concepts of Wicca

Basic Principles and Concepts of Wicca
By Patti Wigington, About.com Guide

Nearly half a million people practice Wicca today in America, and most follow a common set of beliefs and guidelines.

Introduction:

There's an old saying that if you ask any ten Wiccans about their religion, you'll get at least fifteen different answers. That's not far from the truth, because with nearly half a million Americans practicing Wicca today, there are dozens -- perhaps even hundreds -- of different Wiccan groups out there. There is no one governing body over Wicca, nor is there a "Bible" that lays down a universal set of guidelines. While specifics vary from one tradition to the next, there are actually a few ideals and beliefs common to nearly all modern Wiccan groups.

Origins of Wicca:

Wicca as a religion was introduced by Gerald Gardner in the 1950s. Gardner's tradition was oathbound, initiatory, and secret. However, after a few years splinter groups began forming, and new traditions were formed. Today, many Wiccan groups owe their basic foundation to the principles laid out by Gardner. Wicca is not an ancient religion, but Gardner did incorporate some old esoteric knoweldge into his original tradition, including Eastern mysticism, Kabballah, and British legend.

Who Is a Wiccan, and How Do You Find Them?:

Wiccans come from all walks of life. They are doctors and nurses, teachers and soccer moms, writers and firefighters, waitresses and computer programmers. In other words, anyone can be Wiccan, and people become Wiccan for many reasons. In fact, there are nearly half a million Wiccans in the United States today. As to where to find them, that might take a bit of digging -- as a mystery religion that doesn't proselytize or actively recruit, it can sometimes be difficult to find a group in your area. Never fear, though -- the Wiccans are out there, and if you ask around enough, you'll bump into one eventually.

Calling Upon the Divine:

Wicca acknowledges the polarity of the Divine, which means that both the male and female deities are often honored. A Wiccan may honor simply a non-specific god and goddess, or they may choose to worship specific deities of their tradition, whether it be Isis and Osiris, Cerridwen and Herne, or Apollo and Athena. In Gardnerian Wicca, the true names of the gods are revealed only to initiated members, and are kept secret from anyone outside the tradition.

Initiation and Degree Systems:

In most Wiccan covens, there is some form of initiation and a degree system. Initiation is a symbolic rebirth, in which the initiant dedicates themselves to the gods of their tradition. Typically, only an individual who has attained the rank of Third Degree dedicant may act as a High Priest or High Priestess. Study is required before an individual may advance to the next degree level, and often this is the traditional "year and a day" period. Someone who is not a member of a coven or formal group may choose to perform a self-dedication ritual to pledge themselves to the gods of their path.

Magic Happens:

The belief in and use of magic and spellwork is nearly universal within Wicca. This is because for most Wiccans, there's nothing supernatural about magic at all -- it's the harnessing and redirection of natural energy to effect change in the world around us. In Wicca, magic is simply another skill set or tool. Most Wiccans do use specific tools in spellcrafting, such as an athame, wand, herbs, crystals, and candles. Magical workings are often performed within a sacred circle. The use of magic is not limited only to the priesthood -- anyone can craft and perform a spell with a little bit of practice.

The Spirit World is Out There:

Because the concept of an afterlife of some sort is typical in most branches of Wicca, there is a general willingness to accept interaction with the spirit world. Seances and contact with the unknown are not uncommon among Wiccans, although not all Wiccans actively seek communication with the dead. Divination such as tarot, runes, and astrology are often used as well.

What Wicca Isn't:

Wicca does not embrace the concepts of sin, heaven or hell, the evils of sex or nudity, confession, Satanism, animal sacrifice, or the inferiority of women. Wicca is not a fashion statement, and you do not have to dress a certain way to be a "real Wiccan."

Basic Beliefs of Wicca:

While not exclusive to every single tradition, the following are some of the core tenets found in most Wiccan systems:

The Divine is present in nature, and so nature should be honored and respected. Everything from animals and plants to trees and rocks are elements of the sacred. You'll find that many practicing Wiccans are passionate about the environment.

The idea of karma and an afterlife is a valid one. What we do in this lifetime will be revisited upon us in the next. Part of this idea of a cosmic payback system is echoed in the Law of Threefold Return.

Our ancestors should be spoken of with honor. Because it's not considered out of the ordinary to commune with the spirit world, many Wiccans feel that their ancestors are watching over them at all times.

The Divine has polarity -- both male and female. In most paths of Wicca, both a god and goddess are honored.

The Divine is present in all of us. We are all sacred beings, and interaction with the gods is not limited just to the priesthood or a select group of individuals.

Holidays are based on the turning of the earth and the cycle of the seasons. In Wicca, eight major Sabbats are celebrated, as well as monthly Esbats.

Everyone is responsible for their own actions. Personal responsiblity is the key. Whether magical or mundane, one must be willing to accept the consquences -- either good or bad -- of their behaviour.

Harm none, or something like it. While there are a few different interpretation of what actually constitutes harm, most Wiccans follow the concept that no harm should intentionally be done to another individual.

Respect the beliefs of others. There's no Recruiting Club in Wicca, and the Wiccans are not out to preach at you, convert you, or prosetylize. Wiccan groups recognize that each individual must find their spiritual path on their own, without coercion. While a Wiccan may honor different gods than you do, they will always respect your right to believe differently.

Rejuvenating the Soul Spell

Rejuvenating the Soul Spell

When you are down and feel life is going nowhere, go to your sacred
space or a room where you are comfortable. Light up the surroundings with a
multicolored nurturing glow using seven candles of seven different
colors. Ensure the candles are placed in secure holders before arranging them
in a circle on a bare table. It is essential that all windows are shut and
that you keep an eye on the candles once they are lit. Sit or recline near
the table, meditate for a few moments, and feel the candlelight
replenishing your soul. This ritual can also be used when you feel lonely or
worried. Visualize the colors surrounding you with warmth, radiant health, and
strength. See yourself overcoming your problems and solving your problems.
