This class will explore the metaphysical, psychological, and physiological foundations of sex magick, with special attention paid to those aspects which are embedded in the initiatory and religious systems of O.T.O. (without compromising obligated material). In addition, we will discuss practical considerations for successful operations in this mode of working.

Please join us for a thorough introduction to this intriguing and important subject.

by Author and Magician Vere Chappell

Open Event • 5:00 pm

Ida Craddock: Sexual Outlaw & Erotic Mystic

Ida Craddock was a late nineteenth century advocate for women's rights who helped hundreds with her sex counseling and marriage manuals.

She was also an avid occultist who reported having sexual intercourse with angelic beings. Her work was highly praised by Aleister Crowley, but condemned by moral purists of the time. Although suffering exile, commitment to an insane asylum, and hard labor in prison, Ida's courage and refusal to compromise her beliefs would lead to her ultimate triumph, even in death.

Come learn about this fascinating woman and her writings on sex magick, mysticism, belly dancing, and intercourse with angels

Vere Chappell is a writer, photographer, and researcher specializing in sexuality and spirituality. He travels extensively, studying and documenting sacred sexuality in art, history, and culture around the world. He has been a practitioner of ceremonial magick for 25 years, and is currently an international officer of Ordo Templi Orientis. He is the author of Sexual Outlaw, Erotic Mystic: The Essential Ida Craddock (Red Wheel/Weiser, 2010) and editor of Lunar and Sex Worship (Teitan Press, 2010). He lives in Southern California with his wife and priestess, Lita-Luise Chappell.

Fun Friday--George Carlin's Views on Aging

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Thu May 26, 2011 8:05 pm (PDT)

George Carlin's Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get oldis when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're soexcited about aging that you think in fractions.

"How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six anda half. You're four and a half, going on five!

That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to thenext number, or even a few ahead.

"How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you'regonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life...you become 21.Even the words sound like a ceremony...YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you soundlike bad milk. He TURNED 30! We had to throw him out. There's no funnow, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40.

Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it,you REACH 50...and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's aday-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HITlunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime.

And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "Iwas JUST 92."

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become alittle kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

To make visitors feel very special, leave a basket brimming with plush
towels in the guest bathroom. Enclose a bottle of jasmine linen
spray to freshen and scent the towels.

To make the spray, just add six drops jasmine essential oil to four
ounces distilled water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and
tuck into the basket of towels. Add a sprig of fresh jasmine, if
available. The spray also makes an effective room freshener.

MapSexOffenders.com

MapSexOffenders.com was recommended by a subscriber who states, "I know this isn't a "fun" topic, but it's a FANTASTIC website, and it's free. I just wanted to spread the word." The Internet is the ideal source for spreading the word. "This website is provided as a public service by Orbizon, Inc. Using this website, interested members of the public have access to information about offenders, who, in most cases, have been convicted of sexually-violent offenses against adults and/or children and certain sexual contact and other crimes against victims who are minors. The public can use this website to educate themselves about the possible presence of such offenders in their local communities." The offenders are listed by state, 45 of which have thus far participated in this online registration with others to be online in the near future. A Google map is used to show the offenders locations in relation to an input address; the registered address as well as the offender's picture is returned. This Map is information to which every citizen is entitled since the implementation of Megan's Law in 1994. Be sure to educate yourself periodically; the map is updated as new data is made available.

Moon Gardening

Moon Gardening

There is nothing more beautiful at night than looking up at the Moon and looking down at its audience. A symphony of beautiful flowers that stand at attention, when the night comes upon us!

Whether you would like an Herb Garden, a Medicine Wheel Garden, or maybe a Fairy Garden, these themes can help you with ideas to bring Mother Earth alive, not in your imagination, but in your gardens and your hearts. So, each month, we will bring you a new theme.

A Moon Garden is flowers that bloom at night. They are generally white, but can be in other pale shades.

Depending on the Hardiness zone you live, there are many flowers you can plant for your Moon Garden. Just be sure to check for your particular zone or call your local extension office.

Listed below are just a few of the flowers suggested for your Moon Garden. Only some of these bloom at night, but the rest of them make wonderful additions to the Moon Garden.

I hope you get as much pleasure from yours as I do from mine!

GIANT MOONFLOWER
A fast growing vine related to the morning glory, this annual may climb to 10 feet. Tightly closed by day, its white flowers open at dusk to release a sweet fragrance. Flowers can be seen very clearly in moonlight.

PINK EVENING PRIMROSE

A lovely border plant growing to 12" with silky, rose colored blooms that deepen to a butter-yellow center. Opens in late evening to release soft fragrance.

JASMINE TOBACCO:
Sweet scented alata
A very sweet scented flowering tobacco with pure white trumpet shaped flowers 3-4" long and 1-1/2" wide that open in evening. Very free flowering. Fall sown seedlings make great pot plants for growing during the winter. A good Moon Garden subject as flowers open at night and show up well in moonlight.

WHITE ANGEL'S TRUMPET
TOLOACHE
Excellent Moon Garden plant with large showy pure white trumpet shaped flowers up to 8" long that open at night. Sometimes fragrant. Large spiny seed pods. One of the largest Angel's Trumpet.

SOUTH AFRICAN
DIMORPHOTHECA
This is the famous flower from the flora of the South African countryside. Grows only 12" tall with milky white blossoms so pure they appear to be luminous. Shows up very well at night under moonlight.
PURE WHITE SPIDER PLANT
A delightful spider plant that grows about 3 ft. tall. Very different, as it has pure white glistening flowers. Pre-chill seeds for about a week before sowing, should germinate in about 2-3 weeks.

PURE WHITE AFRICAN DAISY
A fast growing African daisy growing to 10 inches with large, pure white flowers with black eyes. A slightly spreading plant.

FRAGRANT BRIDAL CARNATIONS
An unusual carnation with pure white, absolutely symmetrical, very fragrant flowers. A must for any flower arrangement.

WHITE DILL
AMMI MAJUS
A beautiful plant growing to about 36 in. tall with clouds of white flowers often in clusters 6 in. or more across. Excellent as a cut flower or as a filler in bouquets. Seeds need light to germinate. Seedlings will appear in about two weeks.

SUPER WHITE CANDYTUFT
FLORIST'S STRAIN
This flower will stand out in any arrangement. Beautiful large trusses of brilliant white flowers on sturdy stems. Very easy to raise. Seeds germinate in about 10 days.

WHITE LEAVED DUSTY MILLER
The foliage of this plant is very white and fine leafed. Good compact growth. A different looking dusty miller that will stand out in your garden. Sow seeds on surface, germinates in about 2 weeks.

PURE WHITE SALVIA
Grows 10-12 inches with dark green foliage and pure white flowers. Very unusual and very early flowering.

PURE WHITE CONEFLOWER
ECHINACEA VAR.
A lovely pure white version of echinacea purpurea that bears fragrant white coneflowers. Very nice cutflowers.

SNOW WHITE CARNATION
DIANTHUS CARYOPHYLLUS
Probably the whitest carnations you will ever see. An excellent cutflower, they also make wonderful bedding and border plants. Have spicy-sweet fragrance.

FEVERFEW
MATRICARIA CAPENSIS
A native American herb with sprays of 1" single white daisy like flowers. Yellow centers are flat. The flowers are said to repel bees and a tea made from the plant is said to relieve headaches.

MAYWEED
MATRICARIA CHAMOMILLA
A gorgeous plant with fern-like foliage and white daisy-like flowers. The leaves make a relaxing bed-time tea.

Four O'Clocks

These are fragrant flowers that come in several colors. Their trumpet shape blooms open in the evening around four p.m. and close in the daylight.

Happy Gardening!

Practical Mysticism
Balancing spirituality with real life
by Maryam Henein

What does it mean to be spiritual, really? Do you need to burn sage, chant, wear white robes, eat lots of greens and abstain from sex? Of course not!

How about spiritual growth? Do you need to walk away from material goods and lead an unassuming life? Clearly the answer is no. "There's the notion that you cannot be wildly successful and highly spiritual at the same time, but this isn't true," says James Arthur Ray, a success expert who blends spiritual and practical aspects to help people achieve abundance.
According to Ray, if we weren't meant to experience the physical in full splendor - the fine wines, fabrics, food, money, power and yes, even sex - then why did we even bother coming here?
"You're a spiritual being having a physical experience. But remember, you are having a physical experience," says Ray. Technically then, everything on earth is sacred... from a pine tree to a Porsche.

But not fast. Every choice we make can make us grow spiritually or lead us into material wallowing. In other words, to be a practical mystic, there's a sense of balance that you need to strike. Here are a few considerations on how to simultaneously embrace being both a human being and a divine spirit.

Embrace prosperity
Many of you think that abundance belongs to someone else. Or, you feel guilty for wanting things. First things first, abundance is your birthright. If prosperity seems to be missing in your life, what is your current state of mind? Because it all begins and ends with you - with your thoughts, your beliefs, and your actions. For you to have, you must truly believe that there is no lack and that you are not struggling. The cool thing is, even in tough times, we can be spiritual and have lots of abundance. Even if your salary has dipped, look around you at all you have and know that you have created it - in abundant things and relationships.
"In my world model, the word 'life' is comprehensive," says Ray. "It doesn't work if you're financially well off but your relationships stink or you're really 'spiritual' but you're sick and broke all the time or that you're mentally sound but you can barely drag your overweight rear-end up a flight of stairs," says Ray.
Life in abundance is a life of harmony in all areas of existence: financially, relationally, intellectually, physically and spiritually - because remember, it's all spiritual.
Practice non-attachment
Very often, material possessions serve as attempts to fulfill spiritual longings, but that doesn't work, says Claire Michaels Wheeler, MD, PhD., author of Ten Simple Solutions to Stress. As a practical mystic, you resist the temptation of material bounty lulling you into the illusion that life consists of what you have and what you do. While you may love your sacred Mercedes, it doesn't define you and you'd survive if it were stolen or damaged.
"Live in the world you're in, with as few illusions about its permanence and depth as possible," says Wheeler. "Get up, feed the kids, do your job, keep your house, make love with your partner, and seek entertainment, but never lose sight of what is above, beyond, and all around this everyday reality."
Magnificence in the mundane
Being a practical mystic means finding the mystery in life on a daily basis - in the big things and in the little things, says author and therapist Ragini Elizabeth Michaels. There are no ordinary moments. This is the essence of gratitude. No moment, nothing in life, should be taken for granted. Develop gratitude for the simple joys, and even for the challenging times. That's the way to feel the magic that surrounds you every day.
Sure, burning sage and meditating can make it easier, but if you don't know what you're looking for, you can easily miss what is most obvious - the all pervading mystery that changes how you perceive everything, says Michaels. "So enjoy the tea and the cognac, the beer and the pizza, the laughter and the fun, material wealth and worldly success."
Be of service
If you spend your days lamenting your failures or focusing on your shortcomings, your world becomes rather small. In fact, it becomes all about you. Thinking about other people - whether you simply call to brighten their day or say a prayer for them - or being of service will take the focus from you to the planet and that large community we call humanity. We need to interact to help one another and help heal everything around us.
Simply put, a practical mystic means getting in touch with and becoming aligned with your spirit. If you can live by these principles, your spiritual growth is a done deal.

Know Yourself

Know Yourself

One goal of magic is to know yourself. In turn, the better you honestly know about yourself, the more effective your magic can be.

One way to get to know yourself is to take a personal inventory test. Not necessarily one which measures mental health, but one which measures character traits and preferences. The Kiersey Temperament sorter or the Meyers-Briggs personality test are among the best of these sorts of tests. These measure preferences, and can indicate how you tend to behave. In them, you are classified along four scales. Once you know your type, you can find many references to your type, and see how it fits into society. There are many websites on the Internet devoted to these topics.

Use what you have learned to determine one trait you want to change. Concentrate for a week on that negative trait, catching yourself, and trying to modify your behavior. Work on only one trait at a time, or you may be overwhelmed. But if you cultivate your awareness, you might find the problem may cure itself. Many of our negative traits are just patterns of habit. Becoming aware of them is half the battle.

It may be helpful to set aside fifteen to twenty minutes each day, right before bedtime, to think over your day. Look for things you'd like to change, how you might have handled yourself differently. In time, you will become more active in dealing with your personality and its quirks.

Dream interpretation is an excellent path for self-improvement. Write down your dreams in a journal. Many will deal with how you handled yourself, and possibly what you might have done better. Your higher mind is always watching and judging you and your actions. You will know if you did something that would not be in your best interests for soul development.

If you have a dream with uncomfortable emotional overtones, it might be a warning about something you did, and a caution not to repeat the performance. A dream in which you are deformed or crippled may be a strong commentary on your actions. What you did crippled you in some way, or kept you from your highest potential. Your higher mind can be starkly honest. Listen to it through your dreams.

Dialoguing with yourself can help work through difficulties. If you are uncertain about how to conduct yourself in a situation, talk it out beforehand. Do it in your bedroom, or while you are driving. Nobody else need hear, but just actually saying the words, rehearsing yourself through all the possible scenarios, will help.

You can use divination too as a tool for self-exploration. Ask a question several ways. In each answer you can find insight into the possible consequences of your actions. Meditation is another path toward self-understanding. Calming the mind and allowing your thoughts to flow freely can relieve stress. Ask for insight and understanding of yourself.

Any or all of these techniques can be helpful for getting to know yourself better. It may take time, but if you work at it a bit each day the awareness will come. Being fully self-aware and conscious about yourself and the world around you is what makes for a successful magician. Good luck!
