I am starting a new home business and am looking for opinions of thoughs I
know. Take a look and email me back giving me your honest opinion!
Everything is available to buy as well. It is fully functioning. Really I am
looking for opinions but a few sales would be a great bonus hehe :) I am
working every day hard to make more products (yes almost all are hand made
by me) so check back now and again.

Burning Brightly
Allowing Your Soul to Shine
When we hide and try to be invisible and unseen by all we are only really hiding from ourselves.
At times, we've all wanted to crawl under a rock and hide away from the world. We may have preferred to be invisible rather than let other people see us or notice that we exist. This desire not to be seen often happens when we are feeling very hurt, angry, or simply weary of the world. And while we may console ourselves with the defense that we are shy, an introvert, or a loner, we may actually be hiding.
When we hide and make believe that we are invisible, we can think that we no one sees us even though, truthfully, we are only really hiding from ourselves. And while we may try to live life as inconspicuously as possible, we only succeed in becoming more conspicuous because people can't help but notice that we are trying to hide our light. None of us are meant to hide; each one of us radiates a unique brilliance that is meant to illuminate the world. When we try to dim our light, we diminish the natural radiance of the Universe, and we deprive the people around us of the unique gifts and talents that we are here to share.
Stepping out of the wings and letting your light shine is actually a way to serve the planet. We each have a responsibility to contribute to our community, and we do this when we let ourselves be seen. It doesn't do anyone any good when we try to hide. We are all beings of light and we are here to light the way for each other. When we let ourselves shine, we become a bright mirror that others can see their own reflected brilliance through, and they can't help but want to shine also. Shine your light out into the world, bless those around you by sharing your gifts, and watch the universe glow.

I'd like to use today's 'Donald Duck Day' energies as a way to wax poetic about his fine-feathered cousins and all the love that they are purported to promise according to Feng Shui philosophy. The birds I refer to are a pair of the beautiful and faithful mandarin ducks, as these birds are believed to bring all things related to romance and everlasting love. Feng Shui makes use of this particular symbol because mandarin ducks actually mate for life. It's also a fact that if one gets separated from its partner it will pine and stay faithful until it's time for them to meet again to float on that giant pond in the sky. It's these qualities of everlasting love and loyalty that inspire so many to position an image or two small statues of mandarin ducks in the 'Relationship/Romance' area of the bedroom. Many people have validated this cure, so if you want your own love life to go swimmingly, then place a couple of ducks in close to your jean pool and then get ready. I'm not just being a wise-quacker here. Feng Shui promises that displaying these symbols will bring you your life mate-y, so, ahoy already!

What Am I So Afraid Of?? Any Advice?

I'm somewhat new to Wicca. Still somewhat a beginner. But, I want to start doing more with spells etc.
Why am so afraid to write my own spells? I'm so critical of myself. I always think for some reason that if I'm not reading the spell in some book or something that anything I do would never work. I'm afraid of a spell coming out wrong. Like someone's judging me.
Any advice for writing spells? How to begin? I probably need a spell to boost my confidence. LOL

If you're afraid to write your own spells, I would listen to that
hesitation. It means the time has simply not yet come for you to be
doing so. Instead, I would suggest you engage in a bit more study ---
read a few more books, learn how to do basic things like grounding and
centering, come to a better understanding of your spiritual needs and
desires before progressing to spells. As I'm sure you know, spells
are not toys and an improperly worded spell can have dire consequences
indeed. It's better to proceed with caution and learn more than to
ignore your own instincts, forge ahead, and make a big mistake.
I'd start by studying existing spells --- how they're put together,
what pieces are used and why. Handle the ingredients, experiment with
the colors and scents, until you find things which resonate personally
with you. Once you've done that and you begin to understand basic
spell construction then start by altering an existing spell to your
needs. Scott Cunningham's "Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner" and
"Living Wicca" are still wonderful books for learning these things and
they're beginner friendly.

She is engaged to a man (been with him for 10 years now) that seems to like the ladies a little more than she wants him to. She wants him to leave them alone. I told her that doing a spell to make him leave the ladies alone was one that was making him go against is will and I just don't feel comfortable about that. However, is it possible to maybe get him think of her when he looks at another woman? Or maybe see her in the other women? Or is this going against his will also? She said that she knows he loves her, but he just happens to love all the ladies too. I would like to help her, but just not sure how to go about it. Any advice would be great. Thanks so much! - 7b.

The way I feel about this type of spell is this: if he is already looking at other women and this bothers her, this can only signal possible trouble ahead because of her jealousy or insecurity. Personally, I would not want to bind a man to me with a spell if only the spell, and not her wishes for him to consider her feelings more, are what keeps him with her. I have found that men look at other women quite often, even if they are in a relationship. It is just their nature. She will either have to accept it, or talk to him about how she feels. Communication is the key here. She should try mundane methods instead of magickal ones. It never bothered me when my men did this, because I, too, can appreciate an attractive woman.

It sounds like a fundamental case of incompatibility. Either she
needs to be willing to accept the fact that her man may be polyamorous
or she needs to let him go. Either way, the two of them need to sit
down and discuss their relationship --- what each wants out of it,
where the boundaries are, what each will consider, and what is not
allowed. Magic will not help this and yes --- making him see her when
he looks at other women or making him think of her when he looks at
other women would be a fundamental breech of his free will.
I'd tell her (provided you actually DO follow the Rede, not everyone
does; in which case, you may have no compunction whatsoever about
providing her with such a spell) that you'll support her in whatever
decisions she chooses to make, you'll listen and be there for her but
you will not interfere.
Either that, or tell her to seek out a Voudon practitioner. There are
several candle spells which will do exactly what she wants. Most can
be bought in a botanica for a nominal fee. She should, however, be
expected to answer questions about her relationship and what she wants
and to answer honestly. Most Voudon will not sell these spells to
someone who is trying to break up an existing relationship between
another couple. They too have their ethics regarding these things.

Facing Your Fear
You have your candles picked out and a place away from distractions. You have your book of ritual. You're ready to go except for one little thing that keeps gumming up the works: you haven't dealt with your fear.
Fear is the emotion that made you wait six months until you felt comfortable buying a black candle. Fear made you hide all your altar materials, even though you live alone and only entertain your cat and your goldfish. Fear led you to store your Tarot cards in the freezer.
Since this article assumes you're new to experiments in spiritual development, we'll also assume that you haven't crossed the maxim "let it flow and let it go" when dealing with any really strong motivating or un-motivating emotion.
This essay isn't about psychology and facing old resentments toward parents--leave that to professionals. This is about finding a way to ease into ritual so that you can start experimenting within your chosen path. Reading about magic and earth worship is all fine and well, but if you don't add experience, a lot of that learning can go for naught.
Fear can prevent you from exploring rituals. For some, it even prevents reading about Paganism for fear of "going to hell" for witnessing "forbidden" information. Fear can prevent people from finishing rituals in process. Worst of all, it can prevent you from working through a valid learning experience.
The reason why this happens is similar to the reasons most of us survive a bedwetting phase as children. We're afraid of the unknown; crossing into ritual practice means possibly raising the monster that used to live under our beds--and he doesn't just want toenail clippings anymore. We fear failure: what if disaster happens when we mispronounce a syllable? Will the cat turn into a puma and the house burn down? Will we have to face the embarrassment of doing this silly ritual only to find it doesn't work, and end up feeling even more foolish? These fears can't be blamed on all the times we had to wake our parents to change the sheets--they can be roundly and cheerfully blamed on society. Once you're finished blaming your favorite targets and feel better, go on to the next paragraph.
Getting rid of fear doesn't do much good. Facing and conquering fear or ignoring it like the pestiferous child it is probably creates more productive results, magically speaking.
Examine your fears and choose a method of coping. The methods generally involve emotional management. For example, when I first started practicing, my fear came from the strange sensations I felt from the energies I raised. I had to develop a way to find out if these energies were normal or something that I should, as a matter of self-preservation, avoid.
I handled my problem by practicing circle casting. I got to the point where I can meditate on the type of circle I want surrounding me and the same energy sensation that used to spook me surrounds and satisfies me, since it's exactly what I want.
Other methods of handling fear of performing rituals involve slow immersion, short rituals, and protection spells. The method depends on the person. If adjusting to energy sensations is the problem, try shorter rituals--even just casting a circle, calling the quarters, and promptly dismissing them. Once you are more comfortable, move onto actually "doing something" while in the circle. If you feel you have to do a ritual because some emergency arises where you have a driving need to use magic, a protection spell as a preliminary is the best "quickie" way to conquer fear available. Many protection spells are easily located both on the Internet and in Pagan material published. A protection spell gives assurance to the subconscious mind that what you are doing is safe, and reinforces, too, that you have made it safe for yourself.
If these suggestions don't give you the motivation you need to take that first step, then commune with your deity to face this problem, or in the words of a beloved pugnacious three year old, "Get over it!" Ritual involves experience. Experience includes fear. To grow spiritually and psychically, you must experience fear and somehow work with it. Ritual could be the first step.

How to Write Spells
Almost anyone can work a spell and you don't have
to be a genius to obtain successful results. All spell work requires
is solid intent, concentrated focus, and the ability to channel
energy toward the specific direction of your wishes. If a spell
doesn't work in twenty-one days or less chances are it won't work at
all. Cosmic forces can affect magical efforts and even the most
carefully planned spell can fizzle out.
Keep in mind the most basic
of all laws of magic, Magic always works. If what you do does not
work, your doing the wrong thing or your worring about the outcome.
Belief is a tool of magic too. Negative thought can undo your work
and so can talking about it to others. Words are some of the most
poweful tools available for magic. Their power comes form our
constant usage of them for communication puposes. We depend on them
to convey facts and opinions. By using them in a repetitive, positive
affirming way we know that it is possible to change our lives and the
lives of others. Spell wording does not have to be pretentious or
fancy. The only real requirememt is that the words clearly specify
the request, and leaves no room for cosmic misunderstanding. The use
of rhymeing couplets, is common in magic spells. A rhymeing couplet
is when the last word of every sentence rhymes. The main reason for
use of rhyme in spells is the power that it adds the magical effort.
Here are a few reasons you may consider for using them in your magic.
While direct statements guide spellwork, rhyming couplets provide a
richer, smooth flow.Couplets give spells rhythm. This rhythm enhances
the flow, and helps create the altered state of consciouseness
necessary to power the magic and supplies the practitioner with a
focal point. By using rhyming couplets in spell work we can
transport our selves to a place between the worlds, the place where
magic begins and still stay focused on the effort at hand. The use of
rhyme acts as a flexible adhesive that bundles the pieces of the
spell togather and holds it in place. This is important because it
ensures safe passage of the spell to its final destination,
alleviating all possibility of fragementation or dilution. Using
thyming words in a spell strenghtens the magical package we direct
into the cosmos and increases our chances of success. Such is the
power of language, that anything stated in words has some magical
effect however small. Rhyme is a magical power tool, and using it can
turbo charge your work.
Start by writing your request, then give a
few minutes of thought to changing it to rhyming form. Keep it
simple, and don't let the search for words overwhelm you. It may take
a little more time but it is worth the effort, the more of your self
you put in the spell the more powerful it becomes.
Another important
element needed for successful spell work is the ability to visualize
(see) the results with your creative mind. This is where magic takes
place, not in the tools or props. Do nothing you do not intend to and
do everything that you do intend to. To achieve success in magic, it
is important to know in advance what you want to do and the way you
want to do it. To write your own spells these are the steps:
State the need, Change it, see if you can make it into rhymeing
couplets.
Direct your energy in to the spell
Send the energy out to the universe
Have faith that you will get what you ask for
Keep silent!

What Do You Mean, Your Spells Don't Work?
Spell casting, in and of itself, is not difficult. Generally, it follows an
easy formula with separate and distinct steps. A spell is a procedure to follow
to reach a desired end. It does not require a great deal of money, a huge compendium
of tools, or exotic ingredients to work. It does require faith in yourself
and a connection with deity.
When describing spells to non-magical people, a witch will often tell
them that a spell is much like a prayer. You are calling upon divinity to
assist you, as in a prayer, but a spell requires more than just pleading to
divinity to help you out of a jam. In a spell YOU are an active ingredient..
Your faith and your knowledge are as important as understanding there is
divinity out there to call upon.
Many of you have already heard of the Witches' Pyramid, the
foundation of our magickal acts: To Know, To Will, To Dare, and To Be Silent.
This pyramid is the underlying structure of any spell formula.
To Know
Before you can cast a spell, you need to know who you are. Ego
aside, you have to come to terms with who you are, how you operate, and why
you do the things you do.
The second thing you must know is precisely what you want. This is
not as easy as it seems. People rarely sit back and consider what they
really want out of life. Part of this is because they are afraid. They fear
they may not get what they want, and they fear that they will fail. These
fears stop us from knowing.
For example, time and again people I know have spelled for love.
They have not done the ultimate no-no by targeting a specific person, but
they do something just as bad--they don't really know what they ultimately
want. When they get what they spelled for, often they are disappointed,
because there is something attached to that new lover they didn't think of.
Therefore, all spells must be specific.
One of the best ways to begin a working is to write out, in detail,
exactly what you want in one straight line on a piece of paper. Underneath,
phonetically begin to pare each word down. Underneath that line,
pare the words down again. Continue this procedure until only one letter
from each word is left. Interlock the few remaining letters into a sigil. Use
this sigil in whatever magickal application you have chosen to ensure your
spell remains specific.
To Will
Another stumbling block in spell casting is lack of will, whether it
is will power, belief, or conviction. Will depends on how badly you want to
make a change. Do you believe you are capable of making the change, or do
you think it is only wishful thinking? Are you willing to reprogram your
mind, your environment, your relationships, in order to bring about the change
you desire? Without will, a spell will fizzle. Is your mind clogged
with doubt, or unnecessary problems that will prevent bringing about the
change you say you want?
One of the best techniques for increasing your will power is the use
of meditation on a daily basis. Once you have learned to relax, use the
alpha state to program the events you wish to come to pass. You should
work on both short-term and long-term goals.
Another technique that is useful in spell casting is to write down
why you wish to manifest something. Let this explanation sit on your altar
overnight, then re-read it. Does it make sense? Is this what you
really want? Does your reasoning still appear firm, or is it full of holes?
Are you patient? Patience has a lot to do with will. Once you have
a firm grip on "will," you are a third of the way through on accurate spell
casting.
To Dare
To dare means you are not inclined to sit around on your laurels. It
means that you are not choosing to procrastinate, rather you are choosing
to move with purpose. To dare indicates that you are no longer afraid of the
outcome, or fear failure. You are confident that you control your
own destiny to the point where you won't even argue about it, either with
someone else, or yourself.
Although "to dare" doesn't appear to create a lot of work, it does
require you to make an active decision. This is the next catalyst for your
magickal operation. From here, you will plan the appropriate day, hour, moon
phase, astrological energies, and tools required for working magick,
including what divinity you will choose. To dare can lead to a great deal of
work and preparation.
To Be Silent
Even if you are an adept, you should learn to be quiet about your
magickal operations. There is only one exception, which is when you are
working with a group. If the group mind is actively participating on a
project they should be informed of their success or failure.
In the beginning, you should be silent so that you are not affected
by others' opinions. Don't tell them what you are performing magick
for, as you risk failure. Why? Because they can unconsciously affect you
with their disbelief or negativity.
Likewise, once you become proficient at spell casting, don't announce
it--especially to a novice. No real adept will ever tell a novice
that "My spells always work." Not only is it rude, it is also untrue.
Everyone fails. Imagine what a novice would think if they knew you lost your
job, your kids are running rampant, and you are deeply in debt. If your spells
always worked, you would not be in such a fix, would you? Foolish words can
ruin your reputation, which in turn, will ruin your own self-confidence.
Therefore, keep your trap shut--this ensures success on your magickal
operations as well as keeping your reputation intact. No one likes a
braggart, and no one considers an egotistical Witch a good leader or
cleric.

Why Spells Work Sometimes and Sometimes Not

Why Spells work sometimes and sometimes not...
Oh yes... I get so many letters asking why didn't this spell work for
me? Or is this stuff real? ( I hate that one the worst! ) Or how long
is it going to take for it to work? Here I will try to answer those
questions to clear the air so that maybe you will read this and I
won't have to answer more e-mails by the hundreds.
Why do spells work and sometimes they don't work?
There are many things that contribute to a spell or ritual work
properly and not one thing alone. All of the following combined
together is what will make a Spell, Hex or Curse work and work good.
1. The Moon phase
2. The proper materials and supplies
3. The mental condition of the Practitioner
4. The will of the Universe
5. The experience of the practitioner
6. The Magical Energy built up by the Practitioner
7. Your belief in the magic you are working
8. The proper Spell
1. The Moon phase...
The proper Moon phase is one of the keys to success in Spell casting.
There are many Spells that I do on the night of the Full Moon for
maximum effect and potency just as farmers may plant there seedlings
during the Full Moon. The Moon effects everything and can effect our
moods and actions. Ever notice that people seem to be more wound up
and crazy during the Full Moon? I see it all the time.
There are four phases of the Moon... New Moon, Waxing Moon, Full Moon
and the Waning Moon. Each of these phases has a 7 day period for doing
your Magical workings. If you add these phases up, you come up with
the 28 day lunar month. The time period for each phase is... 3 days
before to 3 days after. This gives you plenty of time to plan and do
you Spell casting. Not everyone can plan on doing Magic on one certain
day, so this opens the window of opportunity for those of you who have
a busy schedule.
Here is what the different phases are normally used for in Magic.
New Moon - This phase is very similar to the Waning Moon and used to
rid ones self of things.
Waxing Moon - This phase is for doing Spells that might increase your
gain such as money, power or other material things.
Full Moon - This the phase where I do my most important spells. For my
beliefs are that my Magic is much more powerful during this phase.
Most people like my friends only consider the Full Moon the actual day
that it is the fullest and marked on the calender. They do not know
that the Moon has the same influence for a seven day period. Once
again I personally prefer to work on the night of the Full Moon, at
its fullest.
Waning Moon - This phase is normally for Spells that do away with
things or make things go away. Such as making an enemy go away or a
bad spirit or slander along with many other things.
2. The proper materials and supplies...
These are so very important, for one must have all the proper things
needed for a spell. You may possibly need herbs, colored candles,
Voodoo Dolls, oils and of coarse the proper spell. The herbs, colored
candles and oils are specific ones that are associated with that type
of spell. In other words they have a vibration that is related to the
what you are trying to accomplish. For instance if you are doing a
love spell you would not want to use green candles ... you would want
to use red candles and if you were doing a money spell you would not
want to use red candles ... you would use green. For Candles you can
go to my Candle Magic page to see what color corresponds to what need.
For oils and herbs there are many other sites out there and books that
will tell you what what corresponds to what. For Voodoo Dolls you can
make you own out of wax or cloth material. It doesn't have to look
like the victim because you are going to visualize it as being the
victim. There may be a need for a Dagger to trace magical symbols in
the air. Daggers can be purchased online quite easily. If you cannot
find the supplies you need in your town the I suggest you look online
at Avatar Search.
3. The mental condition of the Practitioner...
This is also very important. You must be in the right state of mind.
If you are trying to do a love spell, you must have the emotion of
love for that person to project out into the universe in order for it
to manifest. In other words you cannot be angry or depressed when
doing the love spell. The same goes for Black Magic Hexes and so
forth... you must be worked up into rage or a very hate filled mood to
project hate at the Victim. You cannot expect a Hex to work on someone
if you are in a Jolly mood when performing the spell. Your mind must
be in sync with the type of Spell you are doing. Plus you must believe
in your work and not have doubts. How can you expect a spell to work
if you don't believe in them but you want to try them just to see if
they do work. You will get nothing from that.
4. The will of the Universe...
Many of you ask ... well how long will it take to work? That is up to
the Universe as to when it will manifest. It could be a couple days or
it could take weeks or a couple months. There have been many times I
have done spells an had no quick results and then POOF! Two months
later it happens! I had almost forget about it. So be patient and have
faith in your workings. Positive thinking = positive outcome.
5. The experience of the Practitioner...
The person casting the spells should have some experience or at least
some good study and practice. Many of you out there, especially the
younger ones expect that you can do a spell for the first time with no
knowledge of how they work or why and have studied the Occult none
whatsoever. I strongly advise you to study all aspects of the Occult
and practice, practice, practice. Dabblers will get no where except
hurt. Remember the more you practice Magic and do certain Rituals the
more you will build up your powers and therefore be more potent in
your spells.
6. The Magical Energy built up by the Practitioner...
This is one way to add potency to your Spells and Hexes. I am a
Sorcerer and not a Witch so I will tell you what I do. I use the
Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, the Lesser Banishing Ritual
of the Hexagram and the Middle Pillar Ritual. They serve to protect me
and they build up my Aura and my Psychic and Magical powers. This
covers all my grounds when doing Spells and makes me glow with power!
I know there are many different Rituals out there according to what
you believe in so find the ones that suite your beliefs and get to
work on them everyday of your life and you will see a difference in
the quality of your life and the potency of youR Magical doings.
7. Your belief in the magic you are working... You must believe in
your magical workings. If you don't, how can you expect them to work.
You must have faith, be patient and you must believe! So many of you
want to try some spells first to see if they work and then you'll
decide to believe. That's not the way to do it! If you do not believe
in the Occult and Magic... then I suggest you stay away from it. Word
to the wise...Magic is not a game or something to just Dabble in or
play with. Magic is a way of life.
8. The proper Spell...
Let's face it... you must have a good spell. Some of the spells out
there are pure crap and some are really good. Some spells may work
better for you than others, so experiment and keep a journal of your
workings so that you will know which ones work best for you and which
ones don't. Also just because a spell doesn't work for you doesn't
mean that it is no good... you may have not been the right state of
mind or maybe you didn't have the proper materials. All the above
things on this page come into play. So like I said... keep a journal
and find the Spells that work for you!

The Art Of Casting Spells
"A spell is a symbolic act done in an altered state of consciousness
in order to cause a desired change."
To cast a spell is to project energy through a symbol. It is
important to note that the energy is what is key, not the symbol; too often,
the symbols are mistaken for the agent that casts the spell. While props are
useful at times, it is the mind that works the magic. Correspondences between
colors, planets, metals, numbers, plants and minerals, and musical notes make
up a great deal of magical lore, and particular objects, shapes, colors,
scents, and images do work better than others to embody certain ideas. The
most powerful spells are often improvised from materials that feel right
or that simply happen to come to hand, however.
Theory of Spellcasting
Spells are an important aspect of magical training. They require the
use of the combined faculties of relaxation, visualization, concentration and
projection. The casting of spells provides practice in coordinating
these skills and developing them further. Spells are extremely sophisticated
psychological tools that have subtle, but important, effects on a
person's inner growth. Spells may highlight otherwise hidden complexes of the
person casting the spell.
A person who has conflicts about success will find great difficulty in
concentrating on a money spell, for example. Many times the practical
results of a spell are far less important than the psychological
insights that arise during the magical work, for discovering our inner blocks
and fears is the first step in overcoming them. Spells also go one step
further than most forms of psychotherapy, in that they allow us not only to
listen to and interpret the unconscious, but also to speak to it in the
language it understands.
Symbols, images, and objects used in spells communicate directly with
Younger Self, who is the guardian of our emotions and who is barely
affected by the intellect. We often understand our feelings and behavior but
find ourselves unable to change them, but through spells, we can attain
the most important power - the power to change our lives.
Spellcasting also forces us to come to terms with the material world.
Many people attracted to the spiritual path of the Craft find themselves
uneasy with using magic for practical or material goals. Somehow it seems
wrong to work magic for oneself, to want things and to get things. This is an
attitude that is a holdover of the Judeo-Christian worldview that sees
spirit and matter as separate and that identifies matter with evil and
corruption.
In the Craft, flesh, the material world, none of what is commonly
thought of as matter is separate from spirit. The universe is made up of the
Goddess who is manifest in all things. Union with the Goddess comes through
embracing the material world and all the gifts that She has placed in
it for us. Our major task on this plane of existence is to become masters of
this realm of manifestation. We do not fight self-interest; we follow it,
but with awareness that transmutes it into something sacred.
Mechanics of Spellcasting
Spellcasting is the lesser, not the greater magic; but the greater
magic builds on the lesser. The paradox is that in spellcasting we may
start out working with the personal self, but in order to work the magic we
are forced to expand and recognize the Self that moves through all beings.
Magic involves the deliberate self-identification with other objects
and people. For example, to do a healing, we must become the healer, the
one who is healed, and the energy that is to do the healing. To attract love,
we must be able to love ourselves and to become love its self.
Spells work in two basic ways. The first is through suggestion;
symbols and images implant certain ideas in Younger Self, or the subconscious
mind, and we are then influenced to actualize those ideas. Spells can also
influence the external world.
The theoretical model that witches use to explain the workings of
magic is a clear one and coincides in many ways with the "new" physics. It is
simply an elaborate but extremely useful metaphor. The metaphor is based on a
worldview that sees things not as fixed objects, but as vortexes of energy.
The physical world is formed by the vortexes of energy, and if we
cause a change in the energy patterns they, in turn, cause a change in the
physical world. When our own energy is concentrated and channeled, it can
move the broader energy currents. The images and objects used in spells are the
channels. They are the vessels through which our power is poured, and by
which it is shaped.
As energy is directed into the images we visualize, it gradually
manifests physical form and takes shape in the material world. Directing
energy is not a matter of simply emoting. Emotion can be likened to a strobe light
which provides a very inconstant light, while directed energy is more like
a laser beam. Even concentrated power is a small stream compared with the vast
surges of energy that surround us. The most adept witch cannot be
successful in all her spells, for the opposing currents are often too strong.
The craft teaches to first identify the flow of energy and then to
decide whether or not it is going where we want it to go. If it is not, then
we can try to deflect it, or we may have to change our own course. Sensing
the energy climate is a matter of intuition and experience. Some witches
make a study of Astrology in an effort to plan their magical workings at the
optimal times, while others prefer to work when they feel the time is
right.
Of all the planets, the Moon's influence on subtle energies is the
strongest. Subtle power increases as the Moon waxes, so the time of
the waxing Moon is best for spells involving growth or increase, such as
money spells. The power peaks when the Moon is full and that is the best
time for workings of culmination and love. During the waning Moon, power
subsides and turns inward. The waning Moon's period is used for banishings,
bindings, and discovering hidden secrets. The practical witch soon learns to
adjust her spells to fit the time of the Moon. If, for example, she needs to do
a money spell during the waning Moon, she would put a little 'English' on it
and make it a poverty banishing spell.
Energy pursues the path of least resistance. Material results are more
easily achieved on this plane of existence through physical actions
than through magical workings. For example, it is simpler to lock your
door than suffer the constant drain from maintaining psychic seals on your
doors and windows while you are away from home. Of course, once you have
locked your door, you might feel more reassured by placing seals on it.
No magic spell is going to bring results unless channels are opened
into the material world. For example, a job spell is useless if you are not
willing to go out and interview for jobs or at least let potential employers
know that you are in the market for one. In the same vein, a healing spell
is no substitute for medical care.
Most medicine today can be broken down into two broad categories,
emergency medicine and that which is not needed for immediate life-threatening
situations. Emergency medicine has excelled at stabilizing the body's
condition so that it can repair itself at its own pace. Most other forms of
medicine consist of treatment through surgery or chemotherapy or a
combination of both. The procedures noted above work on the physical
body and do not take the other levels into consideration. Psychic healing
works at healing the higher levels of the person so that the physical heals
itself or allows the person to let go of their physical body if it cannot be
repaired. In either case, the choice rests with the person who is
being healed and not the healer.
Visualization used in creating a spell should focus on the desired
result, not the individual steps leading up to the result. We give the spell
free rein in how it goes about achieving the results with the
understanding that it is not to bring harm to anyone or any being. For this
reason, spells have a habit of working in very unexpected ways.
To assure that the power we have unleashed does not inadvertently
cause harm, we bind the spell. This serves to 'set' the form we have
created so that the energy becomes fixed in the pattern we desire. The energy
we project to others affects us even more strongly than the other person. This
is because we have generated the energy, and thus we have become the
object at which the energy is directed. If healing energy is sent out, then
the health of the person casting the spell is enhanced. By the same
token, any hex or curse that is sent out ALWAYS affects the person who sends
it no matter whether it affected the person it was sent at or not.
MAGIC IS NOT TO BE USED TO GAIN POWER OVER OTHERS. Magic is a
technique used in developing your own 'power from within.' Spells that are
directed at gaining power over others weaken the 'power from within.' Aside from
the damage done to oneself, it is important for another reason. Many
people who do not understand the laws of magic are afraid of being attacked
magically and are given to paranoia. The witch's main stock-in-trade used to
be removing a competitor's hexes and preparing charms to protect their clients.
While true psychic attacks are EXTREMELY RARE, a person's guilt makes
up for any lack, and after using 'forbidden' help, their paranoia leads them
to seek protection from the same person they just turned to in
desperation. Do yourself a favor, and resist the temptation to 'help' these
types.
Most magical formularies consist of formulae gathered and tested by
witches as well as many charms to protect the common man from those same
witches who sold them their charms.
Times and Correspondences
I mentioned earlier that timing and the right props are considered
important in spellcasting. Over the years, systems of Correspondences were
developed which assigned certain attributes and aspects to the seven ancient
planets of Astrology. Each planet was assigned a God or Goddess, who embodies
the attributes the ancients wished to invoke. Each of the Gods and
Goddesses were assigned an hour of the day, color, incense, metal, number,
signature, plant, mineral, musical note, and animal or bird.
General Guidelines for Casting Spells
Set aside a room for your magical work. Decorate it with things that
put you in a magical mood. Remember to use things that stimulate all five of
your physical senses. Some obvious things would be the use of appropriate
colors for sight, incense for scent, music for hearing, wines for taste, and
textures for feel.
If you do not have a room you can set aside exclusively for your
magical work, then choose a room that can be locked while you do your work.
This will allow you to work undisturbed. In any case, you should clean
your work area periodically with a purifying powder/floor wash to keep away
negative vibrations.
Set up an altar to be used as your worktable. It's size and shape
should be those that appeal to you. Placing candles and other items that
assist you to concentrate on the work at hand is a good practice. Some people like
to cover their altar with a white cloth and place fresh cut flowers on
it every day.
Always use the best candles, oils, and incenses that you can afford,
or make your own, for scrimping on materials has a negative effect on the
subconscious. Don't forget that the subconscious is very good at
making do with raw materials that it can shape to its own use.
Never cast a spell until you have a clear and concise picture of what
it is you wish to accomplish. This ties in with the saying "Be careful what
you wish for, you just might get it."
Always ground out any extra energy you raise for the spell, and bind
the spell so that it expires within the predetermined amount of time.
Once you have cast the spell, do not discuss it with any one until after it
has worked. Most spells peter out because the person who cast it boasts
about it to so many people, that the spell is robbed of power before it has a
chance to work. The ancient bond placed on the magician was to dare, to know
and to keep silent.
Above all, at all times, remember the Rede: "An ye harm none, do what
you will." You do not know all the effects of your spell; therefore use
magick sparingly, if at all.
