So here is what I suggest...Post up an every day object once a week and let the creative juices flow and post up what we would or could possibly use it for magically.

i live in suburban sprawl. there are still patches of woods, and nature
sanctuarys around me. i go to work on the bus, or on my bicycle. favorite
things not found in a witchy store? tea-lights from the dollar or craft
store, altoids from the grocery store, post-its from any place with
stationary, mini pencils from mini-golf or offtrackbetting or any place with
quick-draw, sewing thread from any place with a sewing kit. all these
combines make an on-the-go spell kit. enjoy the altiods, and use the tin as
a holder. will hold: tealight, matches, postis, thread wrapped around them,
pencil, small gemstone or rock found anywhere, salt from any fast food
place..... many places have juniper bushes as ornamental shrubbery. juniper
has many wonderful qualities. instead of a tealight you can also use
birthday candles. carry a bottle of water or a box of juice for on the go
rituals. oyster crackers come in little packets you can buy for about 10
cents in the grocery store.. look by the soup. there is a wonderful little
book i gave to a friend one year, for the witch-on-the-go. lots of great
ideas for small spaces, those still in the broom closet, or those who don't
have the luxury of a nice forest walk. Macguyver is a great role model.

June 21 - Summer Solstice - Litha - Alban Heruin

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Fri Jun 17, 2011 7:54 pm (PDT)

June 21 -- Summer Solstice -- Litha
Also known as: Alban Heruin (Druidic)

Although the name Litha is not well attested, it may come from Saxon tradition -- the opposite of Yule. On this longest day of the year, light and life are abundant. At mid-summer, the Sun God has reached the moment of his greatest strength. Seated on his greenwood throne, he is also lord of the forests, and his face is seen in church architecture peering from countless foliate masks.

The Christian religion converted this day of Jack-in-the-Green to the Feast of St. John the Baptist, often portraying him in rustic attire, sometimes with horns and cloven feet (like the Greek Demi-God Pan)

Midsummer Night's Eve is also special for adherents of the Faerie faith. The alternative fixed calendar date of June 25 (Old Litha) is sometimes employed by Covens. The name Beltane is sometimes incorrectly assigned to this holiday by some modern traditions of Wicca, even though Beltane is the Gaelic word for May.

Traditional Foods:
Garden fresh fruits and vegetables are made into a variety of dishes and eaten by Pagan's who choose to celebrate this day.

Herbs and Flowers:
Mugwort, Vervain, Chamomile, Rose, Honeysuckle, Lily, Oak, Lavender, Ivy, Yarrow, Fern, Elder, Wild Thyme, Daisy, Carnation.

Incense:
Lemon, Myrrh, Pine, Rose, Wisteria.

Woods Burned:
Oak

Sacred Gemstone:
Emerald

Special Activities:
An Ideal time to reaffirm your vows to the Lord and Lady or your dedication to following the old traditions.

Litha, Lithas, Midsummer, Alban Heruin Summer solstice June, history

Litha, Lithas, Midsummer, Alban Heruin
Summer solstice June, history

Litha (Lithas, Midsummer, Alban Heruin) takes place on the summer solstice (on or around June 21), when the sun is at its northernmost point from the equator. It is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. While in our society it is the beginning of summer (a custom derived from Scandinavia), this day is referred to as midsummer because in the British Isles (and elsewhere) it is the middle of the growing season. The warmest and most pleasant of the summer days are here at last, not to mention the hoards of mosquitoes!

The name Litha comes from the Anglo-Saxon word Liða meaning "moon". It refers to the sixth and seventh months of the Anglo-Saxon calendar: ærra Liða (earlier Litha) and æfterra Liða (latter Litha), roughly our June and July. Old English scholar J.R.R. Tolkien uses in The Return of the King the term Lithe for Midsummer's Day, the months being Forelithe and Afterlithe. Whether this is based on actual Anglo-Saxon usage or is a variation of his own design is unclear.

Within Wicca Litha is the time of the Sun God's greatest power, a time of triumph for Sun and vegetation, a time for celebrating life. He is in His aspect of Father, to complement the now pregnant Mother Goddess. She is also Queen of Sovereignty, and only by His marriage to Her at this time is He made King.

The Goddess also shows the first stirrings of her Death-in-Life aspect as She prepares the God for His sacrifice at Lughnasadh, and presides over the fight between the Oak King and the Holly King. The Oak King is killed and His spirit goes into Caer Arianrhod to be renewed, while the Holly King starts His reign over the waning half of the year, when darkness is waxing. One of the Quarter Days, Litha marks the midpoint of the Tide of Activation (Beltaine-Lughnasadh), when the energy is positive and is inclined towards the earth and material things. Its word is Self-hood. It is a traditional time for Handfastings and for covens to celebrate together, especially "parent" and "child(ren)" covens.

The Feast of St. John the Baptist takes place on June 24, three days after the solstice to balance with Christmas. For this reason it was also known as the Summer Christmas. Since he was supposedly beheaded on June 24, he took over the Oak King's role and title, Jesus now taking on aspects of the Holly King ("Of all the trees that are in the wood/The Holly wears the crown").1 In Québèc, Canada, the festival of St. Jean Baptiste is an important holiday. It starts with the celebrating of Mass, then continues with parades, fireworks, dancing, and feasting in the streets.

Midsummer is one of the several fire festivals which took place all over Europe. It marked the beginning of the battle which enabled the Dé Danaan to defeat the Fir Bolg, and was known as one of the "spirit nights" in Wales. As befitting a fire festival bonfires and needfires were lit on Midsummer's Eve and Day. These fires had many meanings and uses. One was for sympathetic magic to keep the Sun going just a little bit longer to ensure that the growing season was long enough to ensure a bountiful harvest. People jumped over the fires to encourage the grain to grow as high as they jumped. Midsummer fires were also used for purification and protection from witches, wolves, vampires, and the like, and as talismans against hail, thunder and lightning. Fresh cut trees and effigies decorated with vegetation to represent the spirit of vegetation were burned to give more sun to the plant life. Other effigies being burned representing witches and other
malignant beings (to kill or warn off) were more common and lasted later into near modern times. Animals such as cats, white cocks, and cattle were also sacrificed, possibly a remnant of human sacrifice.

Litha, Summer solstice Festival of Growth

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Fri Jun 17, 2011 8:05 pm (PDT)

Litha, Summer solstice
Festival of Growth

June 20, 21, or 22
(Summer Solstice)

What is Litha
The Festival of Growth

Litha is the season of expansion, when the crops burgeon forth. We forget winter’s cares and spend our days basking under the brilliant light. The Summer Solstice brings us the longest day of the year - the zenith of the Sun King, and also His death as the Holly King dethrones him and takes reign over the now waning year. From now until Yule, the light will fade into darkness.

This is the time of lovers and gardeners. The rutting fervor of Beltane has deepened into the passionate eroticism that grows when partners become familiar with one another’s rhythms and moods. It is the love between those committed by heart as well as body. It is also the love of parents for their children (be they two- or four-legged!). Everywhere we look, ripeness spills out from field and forest.

Litha is the height of the Divine Marriage, then the Oak King falls, His vigor and prime giving way to the sagacity of the Holly King, even as the Goddess prepares Herself for harvest and Cronehood

----------------------

The Goddess at Litha

At the Summer Solstice, the Goddess is the Generous Mother, Freya, Flora, Habondia, she who gives life and fruitfulness to all her children. Everything in nature is generous - otherwise we could not live. The apple tree makes hundreds of apples every year, when only one seed in one apple would be enough to reproduce the tree. Bees make honey so that the hive can survive the winter, but they keep on working all summer long, storing enough to share. Life could exist without climbing roses, striped butterflies, songbirds, raspberries, or wildflowers, but the Goddess keeps making new forms of beauty for us to enjoy.

The Goddess at Summer Solstice gives us not just what we need, but extra. We can feel close to her by being generous, giving more than we’re asked to give, and doing more than just our fair share. That way, we make abundance for all.

The rose is the Goddess’s symbol at this time of year. Roses bloom abundantly in June, and we can take joy in their sweet scent and the lovely colors of their petals.

The God at Litha

All through the first half of the year, since his birth at the Winter Solstice, the God has been growing into this life in the visible, tangible world. Now, at the Summer Solstice, he transforms. The daylight is longest and strongest at this time, but now the power of night must begin to grow again. Everything and everyone who fulfills their purpose must change. The God dies in this world in order to be born into the Otherworld. Before, he was awake in this world and asleep in the Dreamworld. Now he becomes the Dreamer, asleep in this world but awake in the world of dreams and visions, the seed of what will come to be in this world. He becomes the Messenger, carrying our hopes and prayers to the spirit realms.

The God is also the partner of the Goddess, bringing abundance to all of nature. He is Lugh, the Sun God, and he is the ancient power of life who was known simply as the Good God, Keeper of the Crops, provider for his people.

-----------------------

The Altar

At the Summer Solstice, the family altar can be covered with flowers, especially roses. On or around the altar, you might also place things you have completed and let go of, or are trying to let go of. Add any fist fruits of the season and, of course, images of the sun, sunflowers, and other symbols of the holiday.

You might have a special section on the altar for things to give away. Take one thing off your won altar and bring it to the family altar, or find something special to contribute. Let the things stay during the holiday season to soak up blessings, then give them away before Lughnasadh rolls around!

The Colors of Litha

Gold and green are two of the most Prevalent colors of this time of year. Not only do they represent the sun and the verdant forest, but they represent the colors of Faerie Fire Magic. Other color accents include sea green and red (especially when red roses are added to the altar).

Incense, Herbs and Woods

Incense should be full and robust - rose, violet, fir, and cedar are good. Tangerine, frankincense, and frangipani also work.

herbs at this time

St. John’s wort is one of the most popular associated with Litha. Also connected with the holiday: basil, parsley, mint, thyme, violet, dragon’s blood, fern, vervain, and lavender.

Woods of Midsummer include oak, fir, mistletoe, and holly.

MIDSUMMER’S FIRES

Instead of nine sacred woods being used, these are kindled of oak and fir. The midsummer fires were used much like the balefires, to hex the cattle for health and safety, to drive away baneful influences and they also represented the power of the sun at its zenith.

DailyOM - Confidence In Social Situations
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

Light Of The Party
Confidence In Social Situations
If you feel shy or awkward in social situations, know that many others are probably feeling the same way too.

If you’ve ever been to a social gathering where you’ve felt awkward and uncomfortable, chances are you are not alone. While social gatherings can be very enjoyable, especially when we are surrounded by people whose company we enjoy, there are social events that we attend where we sometimes find ourselves wishing we were someplace else. Such occasions can sometimes be the cause of much anxiety and self-consciousness. We may even feel like everyone else is having a good time except for us. Yet the truth is that everyone has felt shy and awkward on occasion. One of the best ways to overcome self-consciousness or get past your feelings of shyness at social gatherings is to focus on the people around you. If you can remember that other people might also be feeling awkward or shy, you might find the thought of speaking to them less intimidating or overwhelming.

The next time there is a social event you feel nervous about attending, you may want to try this exercise: Spend some time with your eyes closed and breathe deeply. When you feel ready, create your own zone of comfort by visualizing yourself surrounded in a warm white light that is protective yet accepting of others. Imagine people at the event being drawn to you because of the open and warm feelings that you are radiating. When you arrive at the event, take a moment to spread this same light of loving acceptance to everyone around you. Smile and greet people warmly. Try going up to someone who is standing alone and introduce yourself. When you radiate acceptance, openness, and receptivity, people can’t help but respond to you in kind.

Focusing on how we can make other people at a social gathering feel at ease can help us forget about our own insecurities. In the process, we end up making the very connections that we seek. The next time you attend a social gathering, invite people to join you in your zone of comfort that you have so lovingly and intentionally created. Let yourself enjoy being encircled in the warmth of their friendships.

Cupcakefest 2011: Songs & Sweets to Benefit John A. Bukowski Shelter for Animals

Vegan cupcakery Sweet Avenue Bake Shop and Planet Verge, the lifestyle blog and Internet TV show that reports on “what’s hot” and “what’s important,” have announced Bloomfield’s John A. Bukowski Shelter for Animals as the beneficiary for the annual Cupcakefest. A daylong celebration of music and cupcakes, Cupcakefest will take place June 18 at Rutherford’s Lincoln Park Bandshell (176 Park Avenue). The festivities include performances from several bands (TBA), a cupcake eating contest, raffles and the opportunity to meet animals available for adoption.

“As vegan small business owners and animal rights advocates, we feel strongly about our obligation to give a voice to those who have none,” says Danielle Vance, owner of Sweet Avenue Bakeshop and founder of Cupcakefest. “We started Cupcakefest to be able to use our influence in the community to help some of the countless animals in shelters across New Jersey.”

Cupcakefest 2011 is free to attend. Pet supply donations are encouraged. Now four years in, Cupcakefest has raised thousands of dollars in cash and supplies for local shelters.

Bukowski Shelter for Animals was chosen this year due to the challenges the shelter has faced this past year, including lack of funding and attempts to buy out the property: the shelter has been in the crosshairs of township officials for years as Glendale Cemetery, right next to the shelter, has wanted the land the shelter sits on for expansion. If the shelter is closed, all homeless or stray animals will likely be brought to Associated Humane in Newark, which is already overwhelmed. Animals can be put down in as little as seven days by state law, and it happens frequently at AHS.

“Planet Verge is honored every year to join Sweet Avenue in the planning of Cupcakefest,” states Joelle Caputa, president, Planet Verge. “Our staff is dedicated to raising awareness for important causes and feel it’s necessary for people to know that there are millions of amazing animals sitting in shelters right now, waiting to love you,” she said. This year’s Cupcakefest is extra special to her, as John A. Bukowski is her hometown shelter. “The shelter volunteers go above and beyond. When I adopted my dog a few years ago, my other dogs didn’t adjust well to the situation and the shelter’s trainer worked with us for months,” Joelle says. “Now, we couldn’t be happier!”

Cupcakefest 2011 will be filmed for Planet Verge TV. Watch last year’s festivities at http://planetverge.com/category/pvtv/cupcakefest-2010-pvtv/

A Message from Mz Imani about the
Summer Solstice Fire â€" Saturday June 18th, 2011
To Contact Mz Imani: <SoulFireCircles@gmail.com>

Summer Solstice Fire as a Ceremony of Initiation.

Earlier this spring in my meditations I heard the guidance to gather at the Fire.“When the sun is at its zenith and the moon is in its disseminating phase you will gather to pour your blessings and prayers into the BioSpheric Web. Please Circumambulate the Sacred Fire, drum and dance, enter into silence, sing and speak your intentions to the universe and receive Our Blessings of Initiation.”

My name is Mz. imani. I walk with the spirit of the drum and sing to the fires of transformation. I offer this ceremony with, and for, the participants of the Portal Trainings, Spring 2011, to celebrate the work we have been doing as a group and to honor the origins of the Portal Trainings; The Sacred All Night Fire Circle.

Thanks to the good works of Jeanette Ladores, Su Walenta and James Ottavanio who have instigated a “Permanent & Sustainable Home Hearth for the Fire Family Tribe”, we will gather in Hewitt, NJ, at The Sycamore Grove.

SoulFire Circles are community drum and dance ceremonies where we acknowledge the unseen allies of the universe. If you know you are a part of a Living Prophecy to help renew the spirit of life, and hear the call to explore collective drumming, dancing, singing, community art and prayer as an eclectic and ceremonial solution, please join us.

I have been recognized as a “shaman of the drum” and have been a part of the Alchemical Fire Circle Movement since its inception. Currently I walk closely with Flordemayo, The International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, and Turtle Women Rising. This fire is dedicated to the principles of Initiation and is offered as a celebration to support us in helping to make the world a better place, simply by showing up.

Goddess For Today: Hermaphroditos Father's Day (United States - Vari

Goddess For Today: Hermaphroditos
Father's Day (United States - Variable Dates)

Themes: Balance:Masculinity:Femininity:Honor:Reason:Leadership
Symbols: Two-sided Items:Yin/Yang Symbol

About Hermaphroditos: This androgynous deity was once the son of Hermes, but he loved the nymph Salmakisso much that the lovers became one body and soul, neither the male nor the female being discernible . In this form, Hermaphroditos reminds us that the Goddess is also God, blending the best of both sexes together into powerful, productive energy.

To Do Today: A the midpoint of the year, we take a moment's pause from the Goddess to honor her consort and the half, the God, represented by Fathers everywhere. Take time to thank the men in your life and pamper them today. Ask Hermaphroditos
to show you the Goddess within them, and how God and Goddess work together, making each person unique.

In magic traditions, the God aspect is the conscious, logical force of the Universe who offers us the attributes of leadership, reason and focus. This persona and energy is part of the Goddess - one cannot be separated from the other. This is a good day to look within yourself, find both aspects of the Divine and concentrate on bringing them into balance. If you are normally headstrong, back off a bit. If you're normally a wallflower, get daring! If you like to plan, become spontaneous and so forth. Hermaphroditos will show you the way!

"Invisible Me"

"Invisible Me"

sometimes i wish
that i could just go invisible,
floating around in the ethers
seeing what the world is all about.

i bet i would find out lots of things
that i didn't know before,
and quite a few things
that i would be sorry i'd seen!

but still, flying would feel so free
and i would never have to worry
about feeling too fat and heavy
because i could float and fly

hell, i could even turn in air
and dive and do back flips
and turn upset down,
which normally scares me s--tless

there would be no need for glamoury
because no one could see me
and i could find the cutest guys
and maybe do a bit of short-term stalking

just for eye-candy, that's all
maybe floating and diving would get old
after awhile... but i am bored,
and right now up for anything

it seems to me that my hand
is not as solid as it was a few minutes ago
why couldn't i just 'vanish' my hips a bit
because how do i know

if there are any other invisibles
for me to be friends or lovers with?
i knew  i should not have bought
that spell kit that i saw online

i always get into trouble when i'm bored
but, oh well
if my husband doesn't know where to find me
he will just have to do all the housework
hee hee!

Summer Medicine Chest

Summer Medicine Chest

When enjoying the outdoors
this season, be prepared to protect yourself against common summer
ailments. I have found the following to be effective in preventing and
treating a variety of summer culprits:
* Echinacea: Take at the first sign of a summer flu or cold.
* Ginger: This may prevent motion sickness or other nausea.
* Stinging Nettles: By far the best remedy I know for hay fever.
* Arnica: The tincture of this plant relieves pain and tenderness of sprains and sore muscles.
* Bromelain: Promotes the healing of soft-tissue injuries, such as sprains and bruises.
* B-complex vitamins: B-100 tablets or capsules can help ward off mosquitoes.
* Geraniol: Products made with this oil are another effective way to protect yourself from mosquitoes.
* Tecnu: Effective at preventing rashes from poison oak, ivy, and sumac.
* Aloe Vera: For sunburn, thermal burns and any areas of skin irritation or inflammation.
You can find out more about each of these herbal remedies on the site. Finally, don't forget sun protection
(with an SPF of at least 15), remember to drink plenty of water, and have fun!
