Invoking Gods and Goddesses in Ritual
by Kokopelli

Happy Summer Solstice! What a most auspicious time to learn about merging with the gods, even if it's only temporary!

In some traditions, it's called "aspecting." In this workshop, Kokopelli will facilitate a discussion and a practical exercise to help students with invoking deity for ritual purposes. In 1990, he studied under and was initiated by Lady Maeve Rhea of MotherChant Coven in Philadelphia , and has continued his practice and teaching of invoking in this tradition. Since then, Maeve Rhea has written one of the best books on this subject - "Summoning Forth Wiccan Gods and Goddesses" - and this will be a main reference for this workshop.

Students must register and make a deposit in advance, in order to reserve a seat for this workshop. (If a minimum number of 3 is not reached, we will reschedule.) Contact Crow at crow@handsofchange.org to pre-register with deposit.
Cost in advance: $25 for general public / $10 for HOC sabbat attendees / free for Hands of Change members

DailyOM - Creating a Happy, Serene, and Healthy Home
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

June 15, 2011
An Invitation to Comfort
Creating a Happy, Serene, and Healthy Home
Include all 5 senses while making a home, doing so provides safe haven for your evolving body and soul.

Your home is your oasis. Through your efforts, your house or apartment can become both a private sanctuary and a welcoming, serene, and healthy place to live in and visit. An organized and comfortable home can have a calming effect on you, your family, and guests, as well as be your personal escape from the rest of the world. Creating this nurturing space isn’t difficult. Even a household that includes young children or multiple animals can be a serene and peaceful place. In just a few minutes, you can make a number of changes that can turn your home into a safe and comfortable haven that you can be proud to share with your loved ones and friends.

One way to fill your house or apartment with calming energy is to imbue it with a peaceful ambiance that nurtures all five senses. Soft lighting and soothing colors like blue, purple, and green can make a space feel warm and inviting, while pleasant and calming aromas such as lavender and vanilla can positively affect moods. Peaceful sounds, such as running water in a fountain or gentle chimes can uplift and clear the space, while clearing clutter and making the most of open space can ease internal turmoil and dispel negative feelings. The physical objects in your home as well as your home itself can retain the energy of previous owners and the object’s creator. You can give your household’s energy a lift by visualizing white light surrounding our home, symbolically sweeping out residual energy, or smudging your home with cleansing sage.

The changes you make to your home can be as unique as you are and may involve utilization of space, lighting, new furniture, decorating, feng shui, or ritual. But what you do is not as important as being clear in your intention to set up your household as a soothing and refreshing place to be. Make your home a place of comfort, and you will feel nurtured and cared for whenever you are there.

Goddess For Today: Chasca Incan Festival of the Sun (Mexico)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed Jun 15, 2011 8:37 pm (PDT)

Goddess For Today: Chasca
Incan Festival of the Sun (Mexico)

Themes: Sun; Fire; Divination; Love
Symbols:  Sun; Fire; Flowers

About Chasca:  In Incan tradition, this Goddess created the dawn and twilight, the gentlest aspects of the sun.  Along with her consort, the sun god Inti, she uses light to draw sprouts from the ground and inspire blossoms.  Her rapport with Inti and her tender nature give Chasca associations with Inti and her tender nature give Chasca associations with love.  According to lore, she communicates to people through clouds and dew in a type of geomantic omen observation.

To Do Today:  In this ancient Peruvian festival, Incans reveled in Chasca's and Inti's power and beauty around the time when the sun reached its zenith.  People made offerings to the Goddess and God, followed by folk dances around ritual fires.  So, if you can hold an outdoor ritual today, build a fire and dance come dusk.  Allow Chasca's inspiring, growth-oriented energy to fill you to overflowing.

Incans also burned old clothing in the ritual fire to banish sickness or bad luck.  Try this, or burn an emblem of your troubles instead.  As the token is consumed, Chasca transforms the negative energy into something positive.

If you're fortunate to have a semicloudy day, go outside and ask a question of Chasca (ideally about relationships).  Then watch for a cloud that has a recognizable shape.  This shape represents your answer in some form.  For example, a heart would indicate that love is on its way!
..
Granny's Note: Chasca is a servant of the Sun. She was honored as a Goddess of the dawn and twilight, and the special protectress of virgins and young girls. Inca personification of planet Venus, servant of the sun. The names perhaps means dawn or long hair dawn. It is not clear if this is what the Incas thought or if the Spanish confused Aztec belief with Incan belief. The Aztecs felt that Venus was a smoking star (like a comet) so that it had hair coming from it. It any case the same God (seen as the planet Venus) is the morning and evening star seen at dawn and at twilight.

St. Vitus Spell for Early Risers

Wed Jun 15, 2011 8:41 pm (PDT)

St. Vitus Spell for Early Risers
Incense of the day: Coriander

Do you have difficulty
waking up in the morning? St. Vitus, whose feast day is celebrated
today, is the patron saint of the early riser. His emblem is the
rooster. For this spell you will need the likeness of a rooster, an
orange candle, and an alarm clock. Arrange the rooster, the candle, and
the clock on your night stand. Light the candle, and close your eyes, as you say:

St. Vitus,
For whom the angels danced,
Grant me a rested body And an alert mind in the morning.

Visualize the alarm going off at the time you have set. You rise feeling refreshed and ready to begin the day.

Symbol of Protection Spell
.
For a dose of protection, sit in the center of your home or room and
breathe deeply. Enter a meditative state and visualize yourself in the
center of a glowing pentagram. See a protective circle surrounding you
and your home; then, surround this circle with an energy box. Visualize
the box charging with red energy, then orange, yellow, blue, green, and
purple. Ask your guides or deities to send you a symbol of protection
and wait for an image, feeling, or sound to come to you. See this symbol surround and fill your energy box and protective circle. Feel a bit of
this energy fill your personal protective circle. Thank your guides or
deities for their blessings and go about your day.

Apuleius, The Golden Ass

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed Jun 15, 2011 8:43 pm (PDT)

Goddess, comforter, holy one, you nourish the world from your bounty.
You are like our mother, turning to us whenever we are troubled.
You do not rest, not at night or in the shining day.
You never fail us.
You are the only one who can untangle fate's knotted skein, you are
the only one who can pull back the planets when they threaten ill,
you are the only one who can disperse the storms of life and of the sky.
~Apuleius, The Golden Ass

Although
not all divine figures are mother Goddesses, the endlessly abundant
goddess of earth is frequently depicted as maternal toward
her innumerable children - which include all animate and inanimate
creatures as well as humanity. Such a figure serves as a reminder of the way we depend upon earth's bounty in order to live. Without her
ceaselessly replenishing systems, we could not survive.

The cycle
of rain falling to earth, passing through the soil and flowing downriver to the ocean, only to be lifted to clouds again, is just one of the
many self-regulating cycles of our planetary mother. We have, lost much
of the many self-regulating cycles of grandeur that these cycles evoked
in our forebears. Yet they continue to nourish us, just as a mother
nourishes and protects her child.. By Patricia Monaghan
