LIBER ISRAFEL

THE INVOCATION OF THOTH

OPEN EVENT: 12:00 PM (NOON)

Liber Israfel is sometimes simply regarded as an invocation of Tahuti. Yet the introduction to the ritual text itself states that 'This book was formerly called Anubis, and is referred to the 20th key, "The Angel".' According to Gustav Davidson's 'Dictionary of Angels' Israfel 'the burning one' is the Arabic angel of Resurrection and Song who will blow the trumpet on Judgement Day.

As Thelemites we believe this day of Judgement came at the advent of the Aeon of Ra-Hoor Kuit, which is symbolically depicted in Atu XX, the Aeon. Israfel does not herald the end of the world to a Thelemite, rather this angel reveals the coming of a new Order.

In modern times this ritual can appropriately be used to bring about revelation and enlightenment. From the viewpoint of the Kabbala, this ritual is suited to raise the energy of Malkuth up to Hod, and from there, Tahuti guides the seekers on to Tiphareth. Once centered on the Tree of Life the individual is prepared to receive knowledge from beyond the veil, from Kether itself.

Please join Tahuti Lodge at Noon on Sunday June 10th as we endeavour to invoke our namesake and seek divine gnosis.

On the day of the Sun, in the hour of Mercury, as the sun ascends in the last stages of its climb to its daily zenith, we shall seek revelation.

"I am the Charioteer of the East, Lord of the Past and of the Future. I see by mine own inward light: Lord of Resurrection; Who cometh forth from the Dusk, and my birth is from the House of Death." ~Liber Israfel

Daily Feng Shui Tip for June 28

Daily Feng Shui Tip by Ellen Whitehurst for Tuesday, June 28

Summertime! A special season and terrific time for donning shades as well as some rose colored glasses. Truly, the boys and girls of summer are sometimes quite a pink sight for four eyes, especially if you're hoping to find one of your own. A boy or girl, that is. You already know that placing two pink roses in a white vase on your nightstand will attract a lover, but there's a cure that uses rosewater that purports to do the same. Tradition states that rosewater has been used through the ages to manifest all kinds of romantic hopes, wishes and dreams. Take the petals from a dozen roses and put them in a glass jar and fill with pure spring, rain or distilled water, covering the petals only. Let this jar sit outside in the summertime sun for one whole day and take it back inside before darkness descends. Discard the petals and save the rose infused water. Next, in red ink write a romantic wish on a piece of paper and float the paper in the rose water. The ink should immediately start to somewhat dissolve, whereupon you should drink the rest of the water! This is the tops in magically manifesting a mate so, what else can I say but bottoms up!

The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

Love Each Day,
Lady Nightshayde

Vibrational Imprints
Psychometry

Because our bodies exude energy, we leave behind a vibrational imprint each time we touch or live in close proximity to an object. These imprints, which may be positive or negative memories, emotions, or impressions, can become part of the history of an item. Like you, the objects you encounter have stories to tell. Psychometry is the natural art of reading an object’s history in regard to the people and events it has encountered. The objects we associate with are by no means silent bystanders. A house in which a tragedy has occurred may feel cold or silent, while handling a much loved toy may make you feel good. It is widely believed that all human beings possess psychometric abilities. All objects vibrate at specific frequencies, and psychometry asks only that one tune in to those frequencies.

It is common to learn the art of psychometry by using items such as jewelry or a watch, because these objects spend much of their time in close physical proximity to its owners. Information sensed using psychometry usually has to do with an object’s owner and may be related to a location, a feeling, or an event. Emotions tend to be easier to sense, though it can take time and diligence to perfect your psychometric talents. To exercise your psychometric skills, relax and sit in a quiet place with your palms facing upward. Have a friend place one of their treasured possessions in your nondominant hand. Let your mind wander until you receive any impressions. Finally, relate what you have seen, heard, or felt.

By simply by holding an object in your hand or putting it to your forehead, you can sense an object’s past and vicariously experience the emotions, sounds, tastes, scents, or images that have transpired around it thus far. While psychometry is most often performed on small objects intimately connected to its owners, it is possible for humans to leave an imprint on a large object like a home or automobile and to receive impressions from these objects. Once you know an object’s story, you can release it of its memories or marvel at the wealth of information cradled within.

Tarot Archetypes in Action--Part 2

Tarot Archetypes in Action
Your Year Cycles
by L. A. Lothian

After you have calculated your Primary Soul (and for some, Higher Soul) Archetypes, you can interpret the gist of your Life Purpose by reading the Year Cycles 1 to 22 below, and simply substituting the word Life for Year.
If you've forgotten how to calculate your year cycles, he's how:

Calculating Your Year Cycles
First, never forget that the year cycles are birthday to birthday, not calendar year.

Add together your month and day. Example: Dan, born Sept. 22, which is 09, and the day, 22, which adds to 31.
Take 31 and DO NOT REDUCE IT FURTHER. Take this number and add it to the year you wish to know about. For instance, 1997 plus 31, which gives us 2028.
Take 2028 and add the digits together. 2 + 0 + 2 + 8
From this we get 12. Dan is in a 12 year, the Hanged Man. We do not reduce this further to 3, though it is understood that 3, the Empress, is a part of his year cycle energy simply because it is a lower octave of Hanged Man. (12 reduces to 1 plus 2 = 3.)

High Priestess Year * 2 *
This is a year of choices: to be or not to be? Should I stay or should I go? Turn left, or turn right, up or down. A high priestess year sets in motion a cascade of decisions, none of which is easy, and all of which have one thing in common--there is no middle ground. Rich or poor, good or bad, dark or light. It's as if somebody has put the high contrast filter on your now black and white life. Jungian analyst Marion Woodsman describes it best--this is about balancing the tension of opposites in your psyche. Time to hit the dark room, process that roll of film you've kept hidden in the freezer--you know, the out takes of all your demons, monsters and bad guys. Time to print and expose them to the light of day. Can't stand your boss? What trait does she express that you repress? That neighbor is a loudmouth so-and-so. What are you afraid to be loud about? Your spouse is a freaking neat freak. Have you noticed, by the way, that you are a slob? Oh, the High Priestess sounds so damn nasty. She is also a psychic wonder woman, so take heart. She will fire up your intuition in this year, so if you start hearing voices, now is the time to listen! Past life memories are her specialty, and you can order up as many servings as you'd like. And does she like to slip under your covers and watch your eyeballs rock and roll in R.E.M sleep. In fact, High Priestess jumps right into your normally mundane dream life in this year--forget the neurotic dreams about being late for work, naked in public, teeth falling out and having to take that exam again, and again you haven't studied. She turbo- charges your psyche and sends you into the realm of Big Dreams: precognitive, astral, archetypal, lucid, otherworldly. If you have never dream journaled, get started! High Priestess is here to wake you up while you sleep. Breakfast conversation will never be the same again.
Empress Year * 3 *
Picture a radiant woman in flowing moo moo dress tending her garden with loving care. If you are a man, no need to cross dress, just don the coveralls. Whatever the gender, the Empress year brings you in touch with your need to nurture and be nurtured. She is earth-mother incarnate. Watering your plants, stroking your pets, hugging your kids are de-riguer. It is a year in which frozen emotions begin to thaw: you cry at the movies, you cry at weddings, you cry at the dry cleaners. You are sucker for the underdog, the lost cause, any cause. A trip to the pound in this year is not a good idea, unless you are planning on turning your own home into an animal shelter. Key is to take this reservoir of love that keeps spilling over, and splash in it yourself! Book a massage, take a vacation, pamper your soul! If you are female, this is a year to learn about sisterhood, to find support and love from women, to meet a surrogate mother-mentor, and to come to terms with your feelings about your own mother, and being a mother. As a man, you will find yourself embracing women as friends, renewing your relationship with your sister (s), coming to terms with your mother, and with how she influences your choice in mates. The Empress is not just about love: she is about creativity that is seeded in the realm of the imagination. She is fecund and fertile, ripe and blossoming, with ideas, plans, creations. That includes procreation’s: a conception, birth, or adoption in your Empress year is about the maternal urge at full throttle: this is the child who is wanted, wanted, wanted no matter what. Even though creative juices are flowing in this year, much of what the Empress seeds will not begin to sprout until the following year, when the physical manifestation of Emperor takes over, giving form to the imaginative thought-spark of Empress.
Emperor Year * 4 *
OK, time to claim your kingdom and yell out, "I'm the King of the Castle" (and you're the dirty rascal?) This year is about independence and manifestation on the physical plane. If you have unresolved Father issues, they will resolve themselves! Fathers can die in an Emperor year, and they can also come back to life, in the sense that we forgive and allow them to be people who make mistakes, rather than villainous rulers of our childhood. Issues with authority--claiming your own, bowing to another’s, can be great lessons in this year. It is also a year about building up something in a step-by-step manner, something lasting and something royal. Think Cheops and his pyramids! Businesses are often incorporated, houses built in this year. However, the highest expression of Emperor is not in lording over employees or slaves, nor in marketing 101, but in learning to SERVE. The good king thrives because he puts the needs of his constituents first. He (or she) learns that true leadership is truly service. This was the message of Christ, leader among us, who said: The least among you shall be first. The good Emperor learns that having a palace (in Pacific Heights) and riches (film royalties) is not enough to claim the one Kingdom that really matters--the Kingdom of God within. The goal of an Emperor Year is to manifest on the physical plane, Divine Expression and Intent. The Shadow side of Emperor is the short-sighted profit motive, the Machevellian end justifies the means, the folly of King Midas with his golden life-destroying touch. In an Emperor Year, harness the highest yield: forget your financial balance sheet, and remember your karmic debt. This will lead to riches beyond your dreams.
Hierophant Year * 5 *
Get ready to learn what it means to listen to yourself for a change. The ultimate goal of this year is to realize you are your own best teacher, advocate, mentor, advisor, and priest. In the meantime, watch as you look for all of these resources outside of yourself! This is also a year which challenges you to play the rules of the game or to disavow those rules. Time to be the iconoclast or the team player. Time to learn how, and now, to climb that corporate ladder, or bail out. What color is your parachute? The color of one who listens to his or her inner teacher! Dogma is the dead give- away of a Hierophant who has lost touch with his or her inner voice. These years separate the sheep from the shepherd, the belonger from the outsider. Time to find your place, or make your place. Entrepreneurs blossom in this year, as do bureaucrats. It is a matter of simply identifying your niche, at least for now. Institutions can play an major role in your self-discovery, from church to state. Medicine, Law, Academics, Government bodies are just a few classically Hierophant institutions that might impact your life in this year. Shadow side of this year: trying to fit your square self into a round hole, or vice versa. This is NOT the time to follow parental/societal/cultural expectations of who you are, but to delve deeply and discover that truth for yourself.
Lovers Year * 6 *
So who is the lucky or unlucky partner? This is a year of union and separation, of seeing yourself in the mirror of relationship. Friendships and relationships which end now will end simply because the lesson for both parties is over--endings in a Lover's Year are D.O.A. and often traumatic. No resuscitating here! Existing relationships that survive the Lover's test have been forged in a crucible of soul-communion --long live those relationships (at least until the next Lovers year). Unions and partnerships also begin in this year. These run the gamut from birth of a child or grandchild to business partnership to marriage, to engagement, to the start of dating. These all share a common characteristic: they are your classic "soul mate", known-each-other-forever re-unions. Expect to learn a lot, and over a lifetime, with any relationship that BEGINS in a Lover's Year. Even divorce or death will not keep this relationship from thriving. Unions in a Lovers Year are about commitment at the soul level to furthering each other's growth by supporting, mirroring, shadowing each other: this is the cypress and the oak, side by side, sharing the same water, same sun, neither crowding the other. This is also your typical screaming Italian union, in which fireworks are the spark that keep each other growing! Hot hot, cold cold, never lukewarm!
Chariot Year * 7 *
Hi ho silver! Time to harness up your trusty steed and ride the Chariot into battle. This is a year of proving yourself in the world, of taking the reins of your life and charging forward full speed ahead. Challenges of all kinds can manifest in a Chariot cycle, from relationship to career to health, but these events are merely the obstacle course erected at the soul-level, through which you test your mettle. Think slalom ski racing, race car driving, horse racing. Cars, boats, planes and trains all figure prominently this year, with travel and/or relocation likely. No place for compromise, nor self-doubt. It is a year of risk-taking, of daring to tackle your dreams. Chariot takes what the Emperor started, and amplifies it by literally transporting it from the confines of the castle, into the world at large. Mergers, acquisitions, businesses expansion, and career lift off are common. Local becomes national, national becomes international, global becomes interplanetary. How you accomplish goals in this year may surprise you. The meek become mad dogs, the bears become bulls. Chariot fires up your yang, your Mars, your will power. At its highest expression, Chariot year challenges you to align personal will with transpersonal, to manifest beyond ego needs and become instead a powerful vehicle for the will of God. In this regard, Chariot can take you in directions beyond your imaginings and you may find yourself radically and suddenly switching directions--career track for mommy track, spiritual devotee for capitalist entrepreneur, Such changes in a Chariot indicate the Ego giving up the steering wheel and saying, you drive! There are no boundaries in a Chariot year, and if you dare to step off the edge of the world, you will find the world is yours.
Strength Year * 8 *
This year is about shedding your skin like a snake in order to become who you really are. This is a year of transformation, and for some this requires a 180 degree shift. For others, living a more authentic life entails a more gentle re-direction. Whatever the case, this year will force you to re-assess who you thought you were for what you are becoming. It's time to trade in the Ego agenda for the transpersonal model. Time to tap passion, creativity, excitement and lust for life, and what the heck, plain old lust. NO SHOULDS ALLOWED is your motto this year. And for goodness sake, if you haven't learned to love yourself, this is the year you will finally get it! When we resist the expression of our authentic selves, this year can present as frustration, chaos, illness and sometimes tragedy. Each of these is a wake up call to a new life, to who we really are. Part of a strength year will always involve looking at ALL of who you are: this means your animal nature, your dark side, your shadow stuff! The less you have stuffed in the closet in a Strength year, the more free you are to recreate yourself and your life. Think of putting your hand in a lions mouth, and you'll have the gist of your Strength year.
Hermit Year * 9 *
The Hermit initiates a 12-month cycle of learning, questing, seeking, teaching, mentoring, apprenticing. It is a time of completion’s, of tying up loose ends, finishing projects and relationships, in preparation for a whole new cycle. Shining the light in the dark corners of your life and finding answers. Take time to be alone, to contemplate, and to learn. Those who have never seen a psychic, see one in this year. Those who have never looked deeply for metaphysical truths, venture for the first time into this territory. Truth at all costs in this year. No white lies. Time to meet your Obi Wan Kenobi, or Crone, or Wise Old Man. This may be a real person who comes into your life this year, a spirit guide, or an aspect of yourself! Dreams will speak to you, so listen! Shadow side of this year: falling for guru worship, taking the advice of others over your own best knowing, not following your hunches, mistaking alone for lonely, and forgetting that it is your year to march to a different drum! It is OK to be the oddball this year. Go for it!
Wheel of Fortune Year * 10 *
Hold on to your hat, run for the cellar. This is the year the tornado sent Dorothy and Toto to the land of OZ. The keyword in this year is CHANGE. The motto to survive by: GO WITH THE FLOW. Understand that the changes at hand are seeded at a deep level of your soul, and this is where the notion of fate makes sense. Think of Pat Sajak as King of Karma (Saturn) and Vanna White as his trusted companion, that repository of past life memory, (moon). A look-see at the transits and progressions of these planets to your natal chart might be enough to make you shriek in this year. It is also a clue to what your karmic lessons will be, so tune in to an astrologer near you. You can run, but you can't hide from your Wheel of Fortune Year. OK, it's not all upheaval and chaos. Think then of Ganesh, Hindu Elephant God. This cosmic elephant removes obstacles from your path or puts them there. All depends on whether you are on the RIGHT PATH or not. In your Tao, as the Chinese might say. When you are off the beaten path, off track, lost in the woods, the Universe nudges or shoves you back to the road of your proper destiny. This soul path is the Yellow Brick Road that Dorothy travels, that you are traveling as well. Change of job, residence, city, country, relationship are common manifestations of the seeker re-establishing contact with Divine self, with the right way. Keep to the center of the wheel, not the bumpy rim, and journey will be smooth!
Justice Year * 11 *
This is a year in which the scales of Justice seek the balance point between an once of flesh and a kilo of Karma. This is not just your bathroom scale weighing the sins of chocolate and cheese puffs, but rather a Cosmic Weight Watchers that measures the ratio of spiritual muscle to karmic fat. Karma sharma, you say? Just look in the mirror at the flab of unfinished past life lessons that hang like a spare tire and saddle bags on your aura. By the time you've hit a Justice Year, it's too late to crash into a spiritual fitness course. The best you can do now is throw yourself on the mercy of the court. What if you've been doing your spiritual calisthenics all along, and your aura is trim and fit? This is your year, then, to cash in on some of your just desserts. All those good deeds and thoughts made it into your celestial bank account, and here comes the interest check. Lucky breaks, happiness, success, fame or fortune can all be your maraschino cherry of good karma. Or conversely, you might find this a year to reap what you have sown in misdeeds and ill- thoughts. From bad luck to bad hair days, the scales can tip with little warning into payback territory. If you’ve been a naughty soul, it's a good a time as any to say your Hail Mary's, right any wrongs, to forgive and forget, and hope Justice will prevail in your favor. What goes around always comes around, and this is the year to learn that lesson once and for all. Legal battles, contractual difficulties, parking tickets are all external manifestations of an internal imbalance. Find your own middle ground this year, the balance point. Zen Buddhism anyone?
Hanged Man Year * 12 *
This is a two layered archetype-- Empress, with her call to creativity, procreativity, nurturing, self-nurturing, imagination and love. At the same time, you are experiencing the challenging higher octave of Hanged Man! If Empress is Mary Had a Little Lamb, then Hanged Man is the theme melody to Twin Peaks, or better yet, a depressing Pink Floyd tune. Your challenge in this year is simple (heh heh): SURRENDER. Yeah, right. Well, at least give up control, and realize that you are not going to conquer this addiction, or self-defeating behavior pattern, or neurosis, all by yourself. Sure a therapist or 12-step program will be helpful, but in the end this is about saying, OK GOD, I GIVE UP. Show me the way? You choose, I'll follow. What are you in crisis about: workaholism? alcoholism? martyrdom? Too many times, a health crisis becomes the wake up call in a Hanged Man year. So wake up before your body forces you to snap to attention. What may have been fine for years is suddenly no longer tenable to the soul within. That co-dependent no more relationship? That TV addiction when you could be meditating? That unresolved mother stuff--oh dear, did I forget to mention? You have some heavy lunar-maternal stuff coming down the chute in a Hanged Man: clear the closets, clear the air, tell mom what you think, tell your kids to be quiet! Whatever the case, do not expect smooth sailing as a mother, or with mother. This goes for you men too! Did I mention this is a highly creative year?
Death Year * 13 *
Don't worry, Death is only one side of the coin. The other is rebirth. This is not a year of physical death (phew!) but the dying of some part of who you are in order to make way for the beginning of something new. Death is a higher octave of Emperor and so expect many of those same themes--independence, leadership, authority to play out in this year. But also, be ready and willing to make dramatic shifts in your life, in your priorities, in your career, in every realm. Favorite death year examples include the corporate exec who resigned to join an ashram; the accountant who quit to become an artist. Death need not be so revolutionary, it all depends on how well you have been listening to your soul all along: if you love your work, then it will love you back in this year, with new levels of achievement and acclaim. It is when we have not been true to ourselves that life seems to betray us in a Death Year: fired from the job we hated anyway, left by the spouse whom we long ago emotionally abandoned. OK, so maybe Death can be a bit of an earthquake, but who ever said that life was easy. When you cease to be afraid, to walk into your fear, you have become complacent and are no longer growing. Death says tsk tsk, not anymore! Ways to co-operate with Death in this year? Take up bungee jumping, rock climbing, parachuting, or anything that scares you to death. Terrified of public speaking: time to sign p for an acting class. Afraid of dogs. Time to volunteer at the pound. By engaging our fears in a Death year, we say to this archetype: you don't have to sneak up on me, I am willing to grow. In a Death year, the best defense is a good offense.
Temperance Year * 14 *
Take Hierophant and add a touch of angel dust. This is a higher octave of the Pope energy contained in Hierophant, raising religion to spirituality, traditional medicine to energetic healing, commercial art to High Art. In this year, expect to find the rules of the game you played in Hierophant, no longer apply. Rather, in this year you learn to play by cosmic rules, leaving behind forever the instructions by Parker Brothers. Monopoly? Nah. Try Pictionary, or maybe Scrabble--drawing and writing are hallmarks of Temperance, with a quantum leap in your creative abilities that comes from channeling the muse. This is not art of the tortured psyche, the personal poetry, the abstract statement. This is universal art--it touches the humanity and the divinity in all of us. Think Oscar night, think Pulitzer. Don't forget to thank your mom!
Devil Year * 15 *
Take naked Lovers and chain them to the cloven-hoofed Pan. You don't have an orgy, but you do have a carnal moment. Passion, lust and mirth are staples of a Devil year, so don't pick this one to join the monastery. Devil teaches us about the illusions of the material world, by giving us the chance to live and play in this world. Think of Buddha before he sat by that river and got religion. By the end of this year expect to have really LIVED it up--yeah yeah, that's DEVIL spelled backward. Just like Satan speaks to us backward in old Led Zeppelin tracks, this year has a way of playing tricks on us: what we think we see often turns out to be just that: What we think. If there is any year to finally GET the Course in Miracles, and join the .00001 percent of the population who have managed to plow through it, this is it. The lesson of this year: don't change the world, change your mind about the world. Or as good old Seth, of Seth speaks, liked to say: You Create Your Own Reality. The trick, or course, is in learning how to uncreate that mess!
Tower Year * 16 *
I've fallen and I can't get up! Oh yes you can. Stop whining about that thunderbolt that blasted you from the top of your Ego Tower, to the jagged rocks below. Get out your first aid kit and pick yourself up by the shoelaces. This is the Year that you learn the basics of shock-trauma. Check out Uranus natally and transiting, if you want--won't tell you the voltage headed your way, but may give a clue to timing. Remember Dannion Brinkley, the guy who was fried by lighting while talking on the phone, then got a direct line to heaven. While up there, he got the Big Picture for the next thousand years, and even learned to turn on the lights without touching the light switch. Dear Dannion had what we might call a Tower Experience. Time to buy a lightening rod and quit golf at the country club. By the end of this year, you'll conduct more than a little electricity---you will have experienced ego death and like Lazarus, come back from the dead. Time for a new hair cut!
Star Year * 17 *
Nothing short of Divine guidance is at your disposal this year. You could meditate standing on your head on a crowed subway train, you're so centered. Astral entities, angels, guides and God are all shoving and pushing in line to get a word in edgewise: you are like a big satellite receiver in this year, the top of your head a wide open chakra. Don't worry about astral bad guys, by the time you reach the Star, you are protected by celestial armor. This is a year to follow your star, to shine you light, to be a beacon for the lowly rest of us. Oh, and don't forget to sign autographs in between bursts of brilliance.
Moon Year * 18 *
Why do cerberus guard the gates to the underworld? I mean, why not emus or squirrels. Maybe because those mutant dogs have sharp teeth and hair-raising snarls that make you think thrice about stepping into that lunar landscape. The moon is shaman territory, the underworld where Hades held Persephone captive. Is that a hint. You betcha. Having a moon year, means a probable abduction into the world of your own subconscious mind, the shadowy realm of your repressed baggage, and for some, a trip through the carnival fun house of your soul. Heavy stuff, and you have planet Pluto to blame. Transform, transform, transform. On the bright side, you could be asked to the White House for dinner... Just kidding.
Sun Year *19 *
Why do I want to hum a John Denver tune, any John Denver tune. Well, it could be because the sun is so, well, sunny. This is a good year by any standards: health, wealth, marriage, career routinely flourish under the sustaining rays of the sun: when this year shines in your life, your only job is to bask. Oh, and to share some of your radiance with the rest of humanity. It's a trade off for purgatory in the Moon year before. Everybody into the pool!
Judgment Year * 20 *
Back to the hard work. Judgment calls us to follow nothing less than our life purpose. No excuses, no calling in sick for your destiny. This archetype depicts the image of an angel trumpeting, while people rise up out of their graves. It's a Judgment day kinda thing. Key is the grave you rise up from--is it your job, your marriage, your whole darn life which has gone to hell in a hand basket, and is about as stimulating as a day with the dead? Something has to give here, and in a Judgment year it is usually the status quo. When you hear your trumpet call to new life, don't be surprised if your worldly concerns give way to humanitarian predilections--this is your Mother Theresa meets Ralph Nader year. Don't forget to keep a mailing list!
World Year * 21 *
We are the World, we are the People. For at least a season, and then another coup d'etat, massacre, genocide gets in the way. A world year is about the dance of life, about unity consciousness, about the needs of the many being the needs of the one. This is your year to get with the Enlightenment program. First stop: worldly success. Before you can be an agent of God--in the world, but not of it--you just have to get your hands on the gold, and do a Donald Trump. World years make you rich, make you famous, give you all your desires on a platter. At the end of the day, you come back to yourself. At least, that's the rumor.
Fool Year * 22 *
This is a year of trusting the universe, of being a voyager and a vagabond, of adventuring though life. The Fool is us, the journeyman through the incarnations of the physical plane and through the previous 21 archetypes. Along the way the way the Fool learns one thing: the only constant is change. Live by this rule of thumb in a Fool year, and trust that no matter your course, you will find a hotel, hostel, bed and breakfast or manger waiting at the end of the day. Key concept: Leaps of Faith. How foolish!
The Magician * 1 *
Due to mathematical impossibility and the cosmic plan, there are no Magician Year Cycles, only Magician souls. This way, Magicians never need to share the limelight. The Magician is the ultimate networker, schmoozer, PR woman, spin doctor and communicator. These verbally adept souls could take their fine art of communication to Sotheby's and auction each golden word. Past lives scribing and scribbling for pharaohs and kings make Magician's the perfect presidential speech writer, with kindlier, gentler nations at their disposal. At the end of the archetypal day, however, Magicians eventually tire of the sound of their own voice and the sight of their own rhetoric.(Think Rush Limbaugh at mid-life crisis). Inevitably these wordmeisters look for the meaning of life in Save-the-Sea-Cucumber causes, or any calling that in which the means does not justify the end.

Pagan Values: Why Prisoners Matter

Pagan Values: Why Prisoners Matter
By Patti Wigington, About.com Guide June 23, 2011

Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about the case of Wiccan chaplain Patrick McCollum, and his fight to get Pagan clergy into the California prison system. It's a complex story, and you've probably been following it, so I won't rehash the details. However, the reason I mention it is because every single time I blog about Pagans in prison - whether it's because they're being shorted on clergy, or because they want ritual items in prison, or because some guy in Cell Block 6 refuses to work on Samhain because it's a holy day - every single time, there are comments about prisoners and how they couldn't possibly be Real Pagans.

After all, the emails say, if he was a Real Pagan, he wouldn't be in jail. Because Real Pagans are supposed to love each other and never harm anyone. Therefore, anyone who has harmed another person must not be a Real Pagan, if the person is not a Real Pagan, then why does the Pagan community care what happens to them?

Well, Real Pagans are people, and they make mistakes. They screw up, just like Real Jews and Real Christians and Real Atheists. Does that make them Less Pagan? I don't think it does - we, like people of all faiths, are fallible. We're human. We mess things up. The great thing is that every one of us has free will, and thus a chance for turning ourselves around. Redemption and absolution are not uniquely Christian concepts. It's also important to note that the concept of "harm none" is not universal among Pagan paths.

The other comment I hear - although not quite as frequently -- is that anyone who embraces Paganism in prison is someone we should find suspicious. They're probably only doing it so they can (a) get attention (b) get special privileges (c) try to get a knife in their cell and tell people it's a ritual tool. These people, too, are not worthy of the attentions or concern of the Pagan community, according to the complaints.

Do I feel that someone who has raped or killed another person deserves my sympathy? Not at all. But I can also look at an individual on an almost clinical level and say, "This guy has done some really horrible things, but he's still entitled to worship whatever deities are calling him."

I realize not everyone will agree with me (and as always, that's okay) when I say these people - the women who have bounced checks and the men who rob gas stations and the kid who stabbed a drunk in a bar fight and all of the others who are identified by a series of numbers rather than their names - these are the people who are the most in need of our attention and concern.

These are the people who do not have any voice other than the ones that their spirituality can provide them. They are the ones who eat shuttled in a line to a cold room where they are fed the same thing as four hundred other people on matching trays, rather than sitting around a campfire and sharing potluck and fellowship with a group of close friends. They are the ones who go outside in an empty concrete yard under the watchful eye of an armed guard, rather than running through the woods when the gods inspire them to do so. They are there, in prison, because of the choices they have made.

If anyone needs the concern of the Pagan community, it is them.

When it happens that someone finds himself or herself called to a god - Pagan or otherwise - while in prison, maybe - just maybe - it is our job to help light that path for them. If one inmate can take a look at the person they used to be and say, "My gods have helped me become someone new, someone better, someone worthy," then maybe it's not up to us to decide who is a Real Pagan.

Perhaps that is something best left to the gods themselves.

This was a good article. An issue I've not thought about.
In many California prisons Native American philosophy is accepted.
Pagan philosophy should be just as accepted as any other religious philosophy.
I certainly hope Patrick McCollum gets paganism into the prison systems.
I truly believe that more of the prison population could relate to a pagan philsophy better than mainstream religions. Especially in some areas of the country.

How to Make a Book of shadows

How To Make a Book of Shadows
By Patti Wigington, About.com Guide

The Book of Shadows can be a simple journal, or a more complex binder with different sections.
Image © Patti Wigington 2007

The Book of Shadows (BOS) is used to store information you'll need in your magical tradition. Many Pagans and Wiccans feel a BOS should be handwritten, but some use a computer to store information as well. Bear in mind that a BOS is considered a sacred tool, which means it is an item of power that should be consecrated with all of your other magical tools. Copy spells and rituals into your BOS by hand â€" this will not only transfer energy to the writer, but it also helps you to memorize the contents. Make sure you write legibly enough that you’ll be able to read your notes during a ritual!

Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Varied
Here's How:

To make your Book of Shadows, begin with a blank notebook. A popular method is to use a three-ring binder so items can be added and rearranged as needed. If you use this style of BOS, you can use sheet protectors as well, which is great for preventing candle wax and other ritual drippings from getting on the pages! Whatever you select, your title page should include your name. Make it fancy or simple, depending on your preference, but remember that the BOS is a magical object and should be treated accordingly. Many witches simply write, “The Book of Shadows of [your name]” on the front page.

What format should you use? Some witches are known to create elaborate Books of Shadows in secret, magical alphabets. Unless you’re fluent enough in one of these systems that you can read it without having to check notes or a chart, stick with your native language. While a spell looks beautiful written out in flowing Elvish script or Klingon lettering, the fact is that it’s just hard to read unless you’re an Elf or a Klingon.
When it comes to the contents of your personal BOS, there are a few sections that are nearly universally included.

Laws of your coven or tradition: Believe it or not, magic has rules. While they may vary from group to group, it’s a really good idea to keep them at the front of your BOS as a reminder of what constitutes acceptable behavior and what doesn’t. If you’re part of an eclectic tradition that doesn’t have written rules, or if you’re a solitary witch, this is a good place to write down what YOU think are acceptable rules of magic. After all, if you don’t set yourself some guidelines, how will you know when you’ve crossed over them? This may include a variation on the Wiccan Rede, or some similar concept.

A dedication: If you’ve been initiated into a coven, you may want to include a copy of your initiation ceremony here. However, many Wiccans dedicate themselves to a God or Goddess long before they become part of a coven. This is a good place to write out who you are dedicating yourself to, and why. This can be a lengthy essay, or it can be as simple as saying, “I, Willow, dedicate myself to the Goddess today, June 21, 2007.”

Gods and Goddesses: Depending on what pantheon or tradition you follow, you may have a single God and Goddess, or a number of them. Your BOS is a good place to keep legends and myths and even artwork concerning your Deity. If your practice is an eclectic blend of different spiritual paths, it’s a good idea to include that here.

Correspondence tables: When it comes to spellcasting, correspondence tables are some of your most important tools. Phases of the moon, herbs, stones and crystals, colors â€" all have different meanings and purposes. Keeping a chart of some sort in your BOS guarantees that this information will be at the ready when you really need it. If you have access to a good almanac, it’s not a bad idea to record a years’ worth of moon phases by date in your BOS.

Sabbat rituals: The Wheel of the Year includes eight holidays for most Wiccans and Pagans, although some traditions do not celebrate all of them. Your BOS can include rituals for each of the Sabbats. For example, for Samhain you may wish to create a rite that honors your ancestors and celebrates the end of the harvest, while for Yule you may want to write down a celebration of the winter Solstice. A Sabbat celebration can be as simple or complex as you wish.

Other rituals: If you’ll be celebrating each full moon, you’ll want to include an Esbat rite in your BOS. You can use the same one each month, or create several different ones tailored to the time of year. You may also wish to include sections on how to cast a circle and Drawing Down the Moon, a rite that celebrates the invoking of the Goddess at the time of the full moon. If you’ll be doing any rites for healing, prosperity, protection, or other purposes, be sure to include them here.

Herbs: Ask any experienced Pagan or Wiccan about a specific herb, and chances are good that they’ll expound on not only the magical uses of the plant but also the healing properties and history of use. Herbalism is often considered the core of spellcasting, because plants are an ingredient that people have used for literally thousands of years. Put together a section in your BOS for herbs and their uses. Remember, many herbs should not be ingested, so it’s important to research thoroughly before you take anything internally.

Divination: If you’re learning about Tarot, scrying, astrology, or any other form of divination, keep information in here. When you experiment with new methods of divination, keep a record of what you do and results you see in your Book of Shadows.

Sacred texts: While it’s fun to have a bunch of new shiny books on Wicca and Paganism to read, sometimes it’s just as nice to have information that’s a little more established. If there is a certain text that appeals to you, such as The Charge of the Goddess, an old prayer in an archaic language, or a particular chant that moves you, include it in your Book of Shadows.

Magical recipes: There’s a lot to be said for “kitchen witchery,” because for many people, the kitchen is the center of hearth and home. As you collect recipes for oils, incense, or herb blends, keep them in your BOS. You may even want to include a section of food recipes for Sabbat celebrations.

Spell workings: Some people prefer to keep their spells in a separate book called a grimoire, but you can also keep them in your Book of Shadows. It’s easier to keep spells organized if you divide them up by purpose: prosperity, protection, healing, etc. With each spell you include, make sure you also leave room to include information on when the working was performed and what the outcome was.

The biggest dilemma with any Book of Shadows is how to keep it organized. You can use tabbed dividers, create an index at the back, or if you’re really super-organized, a table of contents in the front. As you study and learn more, you’ll have more information to include â€" this is why the three-ring binder is such a practical idea. Some people choose instead to use a simple bound notebook, and just add to the back of it as they discover new items.

You may want to use one notebook for information copied from books or downloaded off the Internet, and another for original creations. Regardless, find the method that works best for you, and take good care of your Book of Shadows. After all, it’s a sacred object and should be treated accordingly!

Tips:

If you find a rite, spell or piece of information somewhere else, be sure to note down the source. It will help you keep organized, and you'll start to recognize patterns in authors' works.

Add a section that includes books you've read, as well as what you thought of them. This way, when you get a chance to share information with others, you'll remember what you've read.

Urban Paganism: Moving as a Rite of Passage

Urban Paganism: Moving As A Rite Of Passage

There is nothing so intimately chaotic as moving everything you own.
Your entire life goes through myriad changes and nothing will ever be the
same again. Priorities shift, everything is affected, and you have to
keep on living right through the worse, and the best, of it. Moving is a
fact of life in the city, and elsewhere. Moving is also a Rite of Passage.

At one point or another in our lives, we are going to move from one
residence to another, for any number of reasons. This experience is one we all can relate to and one which is tremendously transformative; our lives are touched on every level, and we are forever changed by the event. This is a great opportunity for a variety of magical and social acts, such as cutting away unwanted and outgrown attachments and affiliations, reclaiming our lives, dedication to a particular path or field of study, initiation, and beginning a new life, not to mention a myriad of other possibilities too numerous to cover in depth in this space.

So what are some ways to realize the potential of this momentous
occurrence?

Close the door on the past. Complete old projects, settle
outstanding debts, and wrap up whatever business you can relating to the old place. Say your good-byes and let go of the energies of your old residence. Clean the space of your traces, both physically and psychically. Bless the space one last time and then purify the space with rain water, salt, or other such things, as are appropriate to your path.

Unburden yourself of excess baggage, both materially and otherwise.
Donate unwanted things to charity, friends, or neighbors. Recycle anything that you no longer need. Get rid of things which have been cluttering up your life. Give them to people who can and will make use of them. If you have the time and weather permits, sell off those things you don't want to carry off with you but can't just give away. Everything you eliminate at this point is one less object to move and carry later. Sort through your possessions and make gifts to your friends of things you no longer have a use or need for that they might enjoy. This is a good way to simplify your life.

Show respect for your successors, and act responsibly. Leave the
place in better condition than when you moved in. This is your chance to
express positive, life-affirming energies through your very actions and
deeds. Leave a small plant in the space as a gift to the next tenants. Leave the space as clean and pleasant as you can. Leave as little of yourself behind as you can manage--don't pollute someone else's home and life with your old, sloughed-off energies and thought-forms. It is highly unethical to leave a consecrated temple space in what will soon be someone else's bedroom or nursery. There's no need to desecrate such space, either, but surely you can collapse the vessel of containment or transport the heart of the temple with you, or disperse it to the four winds. Those who practice Magic and follow the ways of the Old Gods can really appreciate such acts of consideration and respect. Consider it your personal chance to demonstrate that Pagans are ethical and well mannered/good natured folks who really are capable of acting in an adult manner.

Let go of the past. Say good-bye to your old life, be as
melodramatic or as whimsical as you are moved to be. With this move you can stop smoking, change your diet, get a tattoo, start a new avocation, make resolutions, take a vow, begin a new stage of personal development, and get things into order (finally).

Prepare the new space. Clean anything needing to be cleaned,
physically or otherwise, as best you can. Consider burning some sage, myrrh, or other cleansing incense in the place to clear it of old influences and residues. Examine and get a feel for the new place. Some people like to ring bells in every room, or set pieces of quartz on every windowsill, while others leave pennies atop every doorway or set out a plate of food for the spirits who hang out in the place. It never hurts to start off on the right foot with such things. Set wards or protective magics into place as early in the moving process as you are able. Mark it as your space with a plant or book or other object left there once you take possession, if you cannot immediately move in.

Envision the future. Make a new life for yourself. Have a moving
party to get people involved in helping you make this transition. Once you get moved, hold a housewarming party to reestablish your connections with your friends and community. Welcome the opportunity to reinvent yourself and to reformulate your identity. Bless this new space and consecrate your new practice space/temple. Welcome the Gods and ancestors to your new home. Animals Who Make a Difference

Learn How Animals Detect Illness

They're more than just companions, they're also part of the healthcare team. Find out how animals are making an important difference to people's health and well being. Doctors, nurses, support workers, therapists â€" and animals?

When it comes to better health, not all members of the team walk on two legs. Animals are increasingly becoming a part of therapies designed to help both the body and the mind â€" not to mention how we diagnose and manage disease. We’re used to seeing dogs with jobs â€" like police dogs or guide dogs â€" but there are many ways that animals are making a difference. Here are a few ways animals are improving the health and well being of their human companions.

Sounding the Alarm

For people with type 1 diabetes, a drop in blood sugar can be dangerous, but not everyone can recognize the symptoms of these hypoglycaemic episodes â€" especially if they’re asleep when they happen. Enter the nose: dogs can detect a change in body chemistry and alert their human companions about a drop in blood glucose levels before things get serious.

Dogs warn with behaviours like pawing, nudging, pacing or putting their heads in an owner’s lap â€" or they might wake people up in the middle of the night with a testing kit in their jaws. In the past several years, more organizations are training dogs to recognize changes in blood glucose levels, and pairing them up with adults and children to help manage the disease. (Read the article in Diabetes Forecast for more information.)

Another example of this canine early warning system: dogs can warn people who suffer from frequent seizures when one is going to happen. This advanced notice allows people the time to lie down or get to a safe area in time.

Screening for Cancer

You’ve heard the joke involving a “lab test” from a retriever? The breed may be wrong but the logic isn’t that far fetched. Scientists continue to investigate how dogs can sniff out some forms of cancer â€" or rather, the by-products of cancerous cells. Cancer cells release different “waste products” than normal cells, and these substances are released through our skin, breath and urine. With their keen noses, dogs can be trained to detect these biochemical markers, even in the earliest stages of disease.

The latest findings: a small French study reported that dogs can detect prostate tumours â€" or rather, a molecule produced by them â€" with a higher degree of accuracy than controversial PSA tests. While the findings are preliminary, they fall in line with previous studies involving those powerful noses.

In 2006 researchers at Florida State University found that dogs could detect the disease in breath samples from patients who had breast cancer or lung cancer.

In 2008, scientists in Philadelphia found that dogs can detect skin cancer based on chemicals emitted by the skin. Dogs have also showed promise in detecting bladder cancer from smelling urine. While much of this research is still in its early stages, scientists hope that they can use their findings to develop faster and more accurate tests.

Comfort

It’s a win-win situation: pets love the attention, and people benefit from some snuggle time and unconditional love. The health benefits of pets are well known, so it’s no surprise they’re welcome guests in long term care facilities, children’s health centres, mental health facilities and hospitals.

Patients who get regular visits from furry friends have a better quality of life, they sleep and eat better, they’re more social and participate in more activities. Another bonus: you’ll see more smiles on their faces.

Of course, dogs aren’t the only ones making the rounds. We don’t often hear about cats with jobs, but felines and their owners are also an important part of pet therapy programs.

Building the Body and the Brain

Horseback riding isn’t just a leisure activity. For people with physical disabilities, it can be an important way to improve muscle tone, balance and coordination. This specialized form of physiotherapy â€" known as hippotherapy â€" uses the horse as a tool to aid in rehabilitation.

The effects of this treatment aren’t just physical. Horses provide a freedom and a sense of independence and achievement. A related therapy, known as therapeutic riding, works on these other objectives, and includes all aspects of horseback riding from animal care to learning how to ride.

Participants have the chance to learn new skills, work with others and even find employment. Visit a local school or library and you might just find some furry friends enjoying a good story too. Pets make the environment more relaxed and making reading out loud less intimidating â€" and what better way to develop a love of reading? Reading isn’t the only skill children can develop.

One organization, COPE Service Dogs, enlists the help of at-risk youth and adults with disabilities in their service dog training programs. These programs foster responsibility, empathy and leadership skills. In Canada and the U.S., prison inmates can also participate in puppy raising and training programs as well, helping with rehabilitation.

Opening up the World

For children with autism, animals can help open up the world. In recent years, animal-assisted therapy involving horses, dolphins, dogs and cats has shown many benefits for children with this condition that affects communication and socialization. Children “open up” when animals are around, and pets offer opportunities to interact with other humans too. Outside the sessions, dogs can offer permanent support to children with autism and their families.

Specially trained Autism Service Dogs go everywhere â€" including family outings and to school. When connected by a tether to their companion, the dogs prevent children from bolting and thereby offer a measure of safety and security for families.

Furthermore, an animal’s soothing presence can help keep outbursts in check, and help the child transition to different environments and activities. Dogs can also help improve attention span too.

Get Involved

Perhaps the animals get all the attention â€" and the well-earned applause â€" but people make these programs possible. Government funding and grants can help, but it’s usually up to volunteers and donors to cover the costs. Here are some ways you can get involved:

- Donate money. Cash contributions help cover the costs of raising and training animals, especially when the recipient families can only cover part of the expenses.

- Donate time. Love animals? Training centres often need volunteers for some one-on-one time with the animals, like walking, grooming and baby-sitting. Extra hands are always needed for fundraising and special events too.

- Raise an animal. Until they start training, animals are raised by volunteers who are responsible for house training, basic obedience and socialization. These commitments take a lot of time and love, and last over a year.

- Volunteer with your pet. Your pet doesn’t have to have years of training to be a therapy pet â€" just good manners, proper hygiene and an affectionate disposition. There are many organizations, events and programs out there â€" but it may take a little research to find the right fit in your area.

Grief Spell

Grief Spell

Grief is like a sword through the heart, an image reflected in the
tarot's Three of Swords. In this card, the heart is pierced by three
swords. If you concentrate on this image, you can, by the power of
your mind's loving light, begin to reduce the swords to dust. Next,
imagine your caring hand plucking them out. Visualize the heart made
whole and beating again with the joy of life. Direct uplifting
energies at the heart until you see it glowing with health.
Now "close" the chest, and say: "Unnecessary pain locked out!" Your
grief should be alleviated.

Infusions

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Tue Jun 28, 2011 6:11 pm (PDT)

Infusions

Medicinal infusions are generally brewed for maximum benefit from the
herbs and hence are much more potent than teas. Susun Weed's method
of brewing infusions involves a long steeping time to extract the
most from the herbs used and results in a preparation with a great
deal of plant matter.

To make an infusion in general it is best to use a sterile canning
jar - quart or pint size is fine. To sterilize there are 2 methods I
know of. One is to boil water, pour it into the cleaned jar and allow
to sit at least 15 minutes. The other method is to put the glass jars
in an oven and put the oven on at 250 degrees. Allow jars to be heat
sterilized in the oven which takes about one hour. Please note that
you MUST use heat tempered glass as a canning jar would be. Do not
attempt to use regular glass from cosmetics and such because as soon
as you attempt to sterilize it - it will break. Canning, jelly and
SOME apothecary jars are heat tempered and therefore appropriate.
Susun points out that canning jars are easy carry around, hold the
brew well and easy to store.

Many parts of the plant can be used in an infusion. Please KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING when attempting to work with herbal matter. In some
cases, the leaves of a plant may be generally safe to use- but the
root may not be (comfrey could be an example of this) and vice versa.
ALWAYS consult a qualified practitioner or doctor when in doubt. You
are ultimately responsible for what you put in or on your body so
please take the time to be informed. (see disclaimer) That being
said, there are slightly different methods for infusing depending on
the part of the plant you are using as follows:

Leaves:
Use about 1 oz. (30 grams) of DRIED leaves per quart/liter jar. Fill
jar to top with boiling water, cover with lid and let steep for 4
hours at room temp. Since leaves contain most of the chlorophyll of
the plant, long steeping facilitates extraction of this beneficial
property as well as essential vitamins and minerals. Covering in the
steeping process keeps the valuable benefits IN the jar so they do
not escape with the steam.

Flowers:
Proportions for flowers are same as leaves given above. However,
because the flower of the plant is more volatile and delicate- steep
for only 2 hours. When flowers are a component of a blend of herbal
parts like roots, leaves etc....brew the whole thing for 4 hours then
to get the most you can from the total blend.

Seeds:
Use 1 oz. (30 grams) of dried seeds, berries, hips or haws per pint
(500ml) jar. Fill jar to top with boiling water, cover and let steep
no more than 30 minutes. Seeds are designed naturally to open on
contact with water and over brewing extracts bitter esters and oils
into your infusion. There are some exception to this though like
rosehips and hawthorn berries which may be steeped up to 4 hours.

Roots:
When using roots for infusion apply 1 oz. (30 grams) per pint (500ml)
jar. Fill to top with boiling water and let infuse for 8 hours. Roots
are the most dense and potent aspect of the plant (generally). Their
medicinal virtues are found in their alkaloids and minerals which
dissolve quite slowly in water. Some herbalists boil roots and other
heavier parts of the plant. If success is found for you with this
method then it is also acceptable. However, Susun recommends the
longer brew time without the application of external heat which,
without careful watching and temperature, can easily and quickly cook
most of the best properties of the plant right out of your brew with
you being none the wiser. So if time is not a factor- you will get
the most potent result with the room temp. method and extra time.

Bark:
Bark proportions for infusion is the same as that of roots given
above. Again, because of the tougher nature of this part of the
plant, a longer brewing is necessary to get the nourishing qualities
into the brew.

About Combinations:
When preparing combination infusions of several herb parts it is best
to brew them separately and THEN combine them to get the best
benefit. In the Wise Woman Tradition, the use of "simples", that is,
single herbs are encouraged and when combinations are used, they
rarely exceed three herbs to get the best feedback on the affects of
each herb used.

About Dosage:
Weight 125-150 pounds: 2 cups per day.
Weight 65-75 pounds: 1 cup per day.
Weight 30-40 pounds: 1/2 cup per day.
Note: in treating any infant or child consult a qualified
practitioner or your doctor.

Moon Brew

Set a silver container filled with water out on the night of a Full Moon just as it rises. Allow the water to soak up lunar rays all night, then just before dawn, rise and retrieve the water. Place the water in an earthen jug and cork tightly. Use this brew to anoint money to increase wealth. Touch it to your brow to promote psychic awareness. Or place it
in the bath prior to lunar rituals to become attuned with the spiritual planes.

OT: Lyme Disease

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

June 28, 2011

Lyme disease is best treated early. If you have symptoms, such as a rash, fever, headache, muscle aches or fatigue, see your doctor.

Spending time in the great outdoors this summer? You don’t have to be deep in the forest to come in contact with deer ticks, which carry Lyme disease. The insects hide out in fields, tall grass and piles of leaves, as well as wooded areas. Protect yourself from ticks by wearing insect repellant, a hat, long pants and light-colored clothing. The ticks are small and hard to find, so be sure to carefully check yourself after you come indoors. Inspect your hair, armpits, groin and other concealed areas, where ticks like to hide. Though cases of Lyme disease are on the rise, the tick-borne, flu-like illness can be successfully treated and more serious problems can be avoided if it’s caught soon enough. That’s why early detection is key. The telltale sign of Lyme disease is a bull’s-eye rash â€" but it doesn’t appear in all cases. Other early symptoms of Lyme disease include fever, chills, stiff neck, headache, muscle aches and fatigue, which usually appear within a few weeks of infection. If you’re experiencing symptoms and have been spending time outdoors in areas where Lyme disease is found, be sure to visit your doctor immediately to rule out infection.

Exercise and Magic

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Exercise And Magic

Most people know about the physical benefits of exercise. It feels
great and promotes overall well-being. But recent studies also suggest that people who exercise regularly think better and more clearly than those who do not.

In fact, the benefits of exercise might at last be a reason for us
bookish occultists to set down our dusty tomes and go for a walk. To be sure, the necessity of physical activity has not been totally ignored in esoteric studies. Many occult texts do suggest that dietary and physical adjustments will produce better results. Yet most texts only mention this idea but once, and few point to exercise as part of an integrative practice.

The esoteric integrative approach to exercise suggests that keeping
the body in optimal aesthetic condition allows the mind and body to work together. This union of the physical and nonphysical self allows the spirit to part temporarily from the body--encouraging for such work as astral projection and shamanic trance work--while the body cushions both the physical and spiritual stress of the activity. As a person exercises, he or she has increasing awareness of where the aura and the body meet and develops control and strength over this area.

Exercising releases chemicals within the brain and body. These
chemicals, called endorphins, can produce a "high," much like that produced in ecstatic meditation. Endorphins enhance the performance of the body and serve to increase your ability to think and concentrate. With regular exercise, you will gain stamina useful in difficult ritual processes. An occultist needs to think in a better-than-average manner. Practicing the arcane arts demands a healthy and creative mind. A fit body sends plenty of oxygen to
the brain.

Exercise also helps the astral body to better anchor in the physical
body during times of illness, precisely when a strong astral body is most needed. This parallels the increased power of the immune system from exercise. To some extent, these magical benefits will occur naturally in an exercise process. Meditation and visualization acts as "weights" to increase resistance and to further condition the astral body.

The process of exercise also enhances the physical aura--the stronger
the body, the stronger the aura. A strong aura can aid in both
channeling large amounts of energy, and is particularly useful in drawing-down rituals. A strong aura can also aid in shielding and in other protective measures.

The method of exercise you choose does not matter so long as it
serves as a consistent and safe method for staying in shape. The variety of exercise methods that incorporate a spiritual approach are broad enough that any seeker should be able to choose a method best suited to his or her lifestyle.

Mainstream methods of exercise such as aerobics, weightlifting,
swimming, or jogging can be used along with a meditative state to enhance the effectiveness of the workout. As always, use common sense--jogging into oncoming traffic while "tranced out" will likely impede your spiritual growth if you get hit by a car. Also, choose a program you enjoy. Sticking to an exercise program is much easier if it's fun for you. Varying your training methods, otherwise known as cross-training, can help maintain interest and benefit with a more versatile approach to health.

For the time-impaired, exercise that can enhance meditation and
occult ability is still available. Several companies produce videotapes focusing on a martial art or meditative exercise. The twenty-minute yoga series, for example, offers reasonably thorough workouts in less than half an hour. It is possible to work out to one of these tapes and still have time to perform all the other necessary tasks in a day.

A series of visualizations used while engaging in exercise enhance
the physical process and adapt the auric body to the desired physical appearance. The following visualizations are meant to help engage the brain in reaching the goals set for the body.

To lose weight, visualize the excess of fat melting and moving into
the aura. In its astral state, fat will strengthen protective shields and
cushion against invasive emotions from others. Plus, you'll feel great when you are lighter.

To build muscle, see slivers of light slipping into the muscles and
becoming part of the muscular structure. As the light visualization builds, so the muscle builds.

To increase flexibility, visualize the aura extending only slightly
beyond the maximum stretching point. Visualize the body reaching to that stretching point.

To increase stamina, see a well of motion forming in the solar plexus
that builds for every movement made. Periodically test the well by
visualizing energy from it going to moving body parts when tired.

Visualizations should help encourage the body to demonstrate the new physical abilities desired and reduce monotony in workouts. At the same time, the esoteric skills of visualization and meditation are developed in an integrative status with the body.

Do not feel discouraged if your body does not change much despite
your increased activity. Many people who exercise regularly still appear overweight or perceive themselves as imperfect. The benefits will eventually become apparent to you, even if you do not detect outward changes in clothing size or arbitrary standards of beauty. As stamina builds along with the immune system, and as you gain self-confidence, rituals will go more smoothly, and the feeling of exhaustion at the end of even minor rituals will lessen. By maintaining the physical body, your appearance will soon start to match the healthy soul--the real goal of any magic practitioner.

The Seven Wonders of the World

"The notion of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World can be traced back to the fifth century B.C. These creations rivaled many created by nature in their size, majesty, and beauty. Six of the seven wonders no longer stand, having been destroyed by natural disaster or by humans." However, with the help of modern technology, Nova's companion web site to its educational programs describes these wonders. The sections include 'Mapping the Treasures,' an interview with the Director of the French Center for Alexandrian Studies on the Riches of Alexandria, Unforgettable Moments that contains videos of some of the 'more stunning finds in the harbor of Alexandria' and a fun section, "Seven Wonders: Get Clued In,' a quiz that will help you determine if you indeed can recognize the ancient Seven Wonders of the World. Just imagine what wonders our civilization will leave behind for researchers to discover some thousand or so years from now!

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"The basis of knowledge is the fire, rock, water, and green. But when that power was given to man, he used it to twist his own mind. Tunkashila gave man just one drop of that wisdom."

-- Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTA

All of Nature has the wisdom to follow the Natural Laws. All of Nature knows how to live in harmony and use this wisdom in a good way, with exception of the human being. Often we misuse this wisdom. Wisdom always remains with those who use it in the proper way. Nature has used this wisdom well, so now we need to go to Her so we humans can relearn and change our lives. May we start doing this today, before it is too late.

Creator, let me be open to the lessons that Nature can teach me.

I, like many of you, was brought up and programmed to believe in a number of ideas that have turned out to be untrue. These false beliefs led me to make various life and relationship mistakes. I didn't like making mistakes any more than you do, but it is from my mistakes that I've learned so much.
In this article, I'm going to discuss the 4 major mistakes that I used to make and that so many of my counseling clients make before working with me.

Self-Judgment
I used to judge and shame myself unmercifully, although mostly unconsciously. Until I started to pay attention to my anxiety, stress, and insecurity, I never realized how much I judged and shamed myself.
From my parents, who constantly judged themselves and me, I learned to believe that judgment was a motivator. "If I judge myself, then I will do better. If I accept myself, I will get lazy and not do what I have to do." "If I judge myself, I can get myself to do it 'right' and then others will love and accept me." "If I judge myself, I can have control over others' not judging me." These were just a few of the false beliefs I had about self-judgment.

Now I know that self-judgments create so much inner stress that it makes it harder to do well - not easier. Now I know that people treat me the way I treat myself, so the more I judge myself, the more others judge me. Now I know that my passion and creativity flow when I'm accepting of myself, and that self-acceptance creates an inward motivation to be all I can be.

Giving Myself Up
I was taught that the way to get love and approval was to please others - to give myself up and be what they wanted me to be.

Now I know that giving myself up is a form of controlling others, and that while I might get some temporary approval, I never feel loved when I compromise myself. Now I know that when I disrespected myself so much as to give myself up for approval, others also disrespected me. Now I know that when I love myself and approve of myself, I also experience others' genuine love for me. Now I know that others treat me the way I treat myself.

Competition vs. Cooperation
I never particularly liked to compete, but I was taught to compete for grades, for attention and for approval. I was taught that my value was in my looks and performance, not in my goodness, kindness, caring and compassion.

Now I know that there is far more joy and achievement in cooperation than competition. Now I know that I can define my own worth through my intrinsic qualities of goodness, gentleness, kindness, creativity, caring and compassion, rather than competing to be seen as worthy through others' eyes.

Controlling vs. Learning About Loving Myself and Others
Because love was conditional in my family of origin, I learned various ways of trying to have control over getting love and avoiding pain. Judging myself, giving myself up, looking right and achieving were all ways to control how my parents and others felt about me. But with all of this, I never felt inwardly safe, secure, lovable or worthy - no matter how much approval I got.

Now I know that self-esteem comes from learning to love myself and others, rather than from getting approval. Now I know that my sense of inner safety and worth comes from how I treat myself and others rather than from how others treat me.

My life has improved dramatically since I no longer make these 4 life and relationship mistakes, and so will yours!
