I understand what you are saying Ken, are you a regular attendee of Confest
?

I/We do have quite a large number of folk planning to camp in the Pagan
Village they are interested & accepting of the rules, and the majority are
in fact insisting, on a Drug & Alcohol free zone.. Just like our sister
Village BLISS )O(

Feel free to join me on facebook where the topic is discussed regularly,
with updates in regards to offers of participation, support, ideas and much
more.

Im open to other groups setting up in any part of Confest, but would
encourage those groups or organizers of such, to contact Confest directly,
to discuss where those or that space would be welcomed. After all Confest
is for all, there is nothing to stop you organizing a space that accepts
alcohol use.. Or perhaps camping in spaces already active, where drug &
alcohol use is allowed.

Cheers Lizzy

Nor indeed would mine. However, horses for courses and if these folk wish to celebrate their way, even if it seems a bit restrictive to me personally, then I wish them well and hope their event is a success.

Not that our group are regular attenders of events, but when we have, we have always selected an area to camp separate from other campers and while socializing at the more public areas have kept our campsite as "our territory" and only invited selected people we feel might be kindred souls to join us there.

Works a treat for us, but not popular with most of those with an "all in together" philosophy. Resulting in our presence being as popular as the proverbial pork chop.Seems that the ruling mindset among what passes as Paganism today is not as the Paganism of old was, where tribal groups kept together and social interaction was governed by strict rules of etiquette and manners.

Ah well, such is called progress, and those like us are going the way of the dinosaur.

Why is it such a big deal that there will be no alcohol allowed in one area. What you all can have a good time without getting pissed???

Thanks for clarifying this for me Lizzy, now I understand the overall context better.

I didn't really grasp at first from the title "Pagan Village" that it was but a small, specific element in a broader context, not having attended Confest before, and that there will be other options available for Dionysians. For some reason, perhaps from the title "PAGAN VILLAGE", I thought it was meant to be representative of Paganism per se, but it appears to be a very specific thing.

Perhaps one could consider M Lycett's excellent suggestion of refining the title to reflect the 'family' raison-d'etre of declaring it drug-and-alcohol-free. Just calling it "Pagan Village" suggests that it is somehow "Pagan" to be a wowser, when it clearly isn't! "Pagan Family Village" is actually a nicer phrase to my mind and can of course be taken in both the literal "mums and dads and the kids" sense as well as the broader figurative one of the greater Pagan Family which involves all life, including the Stars, Moon and Earth.

In my view (and, to answer niki272004's remark "why can't we have a good time without getting pissed"), let me say that of course we can. At the moment I am myself on a self-appointed detox regime, which might alarm anyone who knows me personally, as it involves eschewing beer, wine, cocktails, long drinks, enhanced cordials eg. absinthe, hip flasks, tobacco-pipes, cigars, cigarettes, the sacred grass of the Arabs, legal synthetic canniboids, legal herbal opiates, tea, coffee, and processed sugar, and any other stimulants - simply to clean out the old system and give the nervous system a break. And yet I live! In fact, the novelty of regaining normal brain chemistry is like being completely smashed in itself. My body thanks me.

So, you see, I would actually find great comfort and support in a plain, nurturing, intoxicant-free zone such as Pagan (Family) Village. It would suck having to maintain my detox at, for example, a Bacchanal!

And I also agree that the abuse of these substances is responsible for far too much damage to health, happiness and sanity in our world - which is paradoxically one reason why I mentioned it in the first place - because to me, one of the principal benefits which Paganism can offer our world is the re-sacralisation of traditional Sacraments such as wine and the rest.

It is the profanisation of these essentially sacred substances (anything that directly affects your spirit is, by definition, spiritual) which is to blame for so much human misery, self-destruction, psychopathology etc. and it is sadly often the case that miserable, self-destructive psychopaths find therein the most expedient means to their end, often dragging others with them.

A robust Pagan society would provide sanctuary for those who wish their auras free of intoxication, as well as safe, appropriate settings for those partaking of the bounty of Our Lord Dionysus.

Hope it all goes splendidly!

C.B.

Made Redundant - Selling My Esoteric / Witchcraft Books!

Posted by: "David" junhengclinic@yahoo.co.uk   junhengclinic

Mon Jun 27, 2011 5:23 am (PDT)

Hi people

I have been made redundant and am selling my entire
collection of 200 (or so) esoteric books. It's not all
bad news cos I will use it to generate funds for three
small businesses I am starting up: reflexology,
therapeutic massage and maths tuition!

Although I know that study is really important, I've
also learned that the gods are bigger than books ...
so I'm happy with the four books that I've retained! :)

Most of this collection is about paganism/witchcraft
(both old classics, and recent), but there are
a few books on taijiquan (tai chi), earth
mysteries, Christianity and other general
esoterica.

Shipping from London UK. The prices are generally at
the budget end of Amazon prices - but to
the forums I'm on ... I'm giving 30% discount for orders
before close of Thu 30 Jun.

Shipping is extra and charged at cost - You get
to chose whatever shipping method you want. :)
Even if you're in Aus (or somewhere else exotic!)
please take a look. If the postage works out to
be exhorbitant, I may be able to negotiate on that.

If you want to see the whole book list (of 200 books) please
email me OFF-list and I'll email it to you.

In the meantime, here is a small selection ... just to wet
your taste buds ... ;)

MM David

Wishing you all the best with your new business ventures, and I hope that you manage to get good value for the sale of your wonderful collection of books. I have forwarded your post to another list which includes many UK members, and I'm sure that you will get some positive responses... as I ponder your list myself :)

Many blessings, Graham.

In the meantime, here is a small selection ... just to wet

your taste buds ... ;)
