I went to school during the 1950's, and the phrase, "Under God" was NOT a part of the Pledge Of Allegiance. If we would just revert back to what the original Pledge was, we wouldn't have this problem.
I agree with you on this..it was 1954 when the "under God" was added. I believe this was during the McCarthy fiasco when everyone was afraid that communism was taking over the world. I will usually say "under Goddess" when I say the pledge.
Pat aka Lionaire
The problem isn't getting old,
It's getting ourselves to accept it.

You are right.
Also, some religious denominations refuse to say the pledge because they don't worship 'false idols'--the flag.

I hope his lawyer pounced this right away and filed suit. Someone in
court is not even legally required to swear on a Bible. Any other
book of faith can be substituted or none at all. They also do not
have to swear "so help me God" as it's not part of the official
swearing. That it's been tried does not sadly surprise me; that it
would stand would greatly disappoint me.

Correct, it is not. The pledge was altered in 1954 to add that phrase...and
growing up in the 1970s it was still taught to me that way. Of course,
changing it back to the original wording doesn't solve the problem. There
are still those who would not say it because it constitutes pledging to an
item or an idol rather than their God.

It's an art created by a New York-based artist Ray Villafane.

Ten Vital Bodies in Astrology

Ten Vital Bodies in Astrology
From the first time that humans looked toward the sky and began to chart the movement of the sun, moon and the planets, men have been assigning meaning to what they saw. It wasn't enough to simply record where the sun moved, when an eclipse happened or when a planet was brightest, complex and varying stories and myths were given to each celestial event to help explain things that were happening in the observer's own life.
If crops failed, it was blamed on the stars. If war broke out, it was blamed on the stars. Let's take a look at ten of the heavenly bodies that astrologers assigned meaning to and what each body meant.
The Sun -- Not only was the sun the easiest body to see in the sky, it provided light, warmth and life. Most cultures saw the sun as a life giver, not vengeful or angry, but almost judgementless. A benign and powerful giver of life and wellness.
The Moon -- The moon, to many early astrologists, represented the unconscious mind and stood for emotion and desire. It often had a negative connotation, simply because it was thought the moon help power over the weak to indulge in their inner most desires. The old superstition of a full moon altering people's behavior or even turning some into werewolves stems from the idea of the moon holding a mysterious power over one's emotional side. The Moon is also associated with Monday, short for MoonDay.
Mercury -- This planet is named after the Roman messenger god of the same name and thus the planet Mercury is thought to be the body that rules things like communication, rationality and logic, as well as transport. It is thought to bring out people's curious nature, as well as being vivacious and inconsistent. Mercury is thought to rule over Wednesday. In astrology practiced in China, Mercury is ruled over by the element of water. In India, Mercury stands for intelligence.
Venus -- Venus is one of the brightest objects in the sky after the sun and the moon. It is named after the Roman god of love and the planet is thought to control love in astrology. The planet is also thought to affect things like beauty, harmony and it plays an important role in people wanting or not wanting to get along. Throughout time and culture, Venus has represented peace, love and human potential. Venus is the planet for Friday and in Chinese astrology it is associated with metal.
Mars -- Maybe no other planet is better known than Mars. The planet's place as bringer or war, aggression and terror is well known in most every culture. It is also associated with confidence and impulsiveness. Mars is usually associated with Tuesday and it is a fire element in Chinese astrology. Mars role as a bringer of war is apparent throughout human literature highlighted by H.G. Wells The War of the Worlds where invaders from Mars come to Earth to wipe out human civilization.
Jupiter -- The biggest planet in the solar system is associated with happiness and joy. Jupiter rules over Thursday and is also associated with higher education, religion and growth. Many also believe Jupiter plays a role in protection, since it does protect the Earth from many wayward comets and asteroids by using it's gravitational pull to absorb many hits that would otherwise strike the Earth.
Saturn -- The final planet in the original seven planets that ruled astrology for years, Saturn is seen as cold and lifeless and is associated with ideas such as structure and sadness. In India, the planet is thought to bring bad luck. Saturn is tied in with the day Saturday and it is an Earth element in China.
Uranus-- While some astrologers don't even acknowledge Uranus because it was not one of the original seven bodies, to the rest of the astronomers who have accepted it, Uranus stands for ideas and genius. It is also associated with controversial or extreme politics, as well as modern inventions. The association of Uranus with these things stems from the time of its discovery being so closely associated with the French Revolution and the American war for independence.
Neptune -- The interpretations of Neptune are all over the place. It can stand for spirituality and religion, just like Uranus, but it is also associated with drug use and altered mental states. The discovery of Neptune happened around the same time that anesthetics were discovered, hence the association with altered mental states.
Pluto -- While Pluto isn't a planet anymore, it is still given astrological significance. It is associated with renewal and also associated with great and terrible power and corruption because of the time of its discovery coincided with the height of power of Stalin.
Astrology is filled with colorful and interesting stories about how heavenly bodies influence us. It may seem strange at first, but there might just be more of a link between these objects in the sky and human behavior than you might think.

Fun Friday--Your Age By Chocolate Maths

YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATHS
Don't tell me your age; you'd probably lie anyway-but the Hershey Man will know!
YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATHS
This is pretty neat.
DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute .
Work this out as you read .
Be sure y ou don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10)
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)
3. Add 5
4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1760 .
If you haven't, add 1759.
6.. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
You should have a three digit number
The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).
The next two numbers are
YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2010) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.
Chocolate Calculator.

Witch Bottles
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Thu Oct 14, 2010 11:01 pm (PDT)
Witch Bottles
Witch Bottles were originally sold by Matthew Hopkins and other such
self-proclaimed "witchfinders" who promised that their bottles would protect
their customers from all of the hysterical nonsense and ickiness they tried
to blame on Witchcraft. These enterprising ecclesiastical extortionists had
a captive clientele, because if you didn't buy one of these creations from
them, you might just get accused of being a witch yourself. Where these guys
got the idea in the first place is still a matter of dispute. It's quite
possible that the idea originated with the Witches in the first place, and
Hopkins and company stole it from folk magic they grew up with or discovered
as they traveled through Europe decimating villages.
Witch hunting was nasty stuff, but the technique of using a Witch bottle is
still magically useful, and if some good can be brought out of the sorrow and
pain of the past, perhaps we should do so. The Witch bottle has bogus
beginnings, but it is fertile with potential applications nonetheless--the
idea of working magic with a bottle as the primary medium of expression is
just too good to let languish because of some ill-mannered louts.
Using bottles for magic pre-dates the Inquisition by a considerable stretch.
The whole process of blowing glass to make a bottle was an alchemical art in
and of itself. Old bottles seem to have a charm to them, a quality or
character that makes them somehow special. Perhaps there was something to
the notion of the glassblower emulating the gods by blowing life-breath into
the glass in order to form it. There are all manner of romantic notions you
can draw on to add color to this particular practice of folk magic.
To make a Witch bottle, first select a bottle you want to work with. Your
bottle may be clear or tinted. If it is colored, select a color that suits
your purpose. If you want to see the contents, obviously you'll want to
avoid using brown bottles. Tinted bottles are wonderful for spells that make
use of color correspondences.
Once you have a bottle, wash it with warm soapy water, then magically cleanse
it, and bathe it in the light of the Full Moon. If you want to be more
finicky, choose a time when the Full Moon is in a favorable zodiacal
sign--check your empemeris or Llewellyn's Moon Sign Book for more information
about the Moon's signs.
When the bottle is clean, it's time to fill it. There are a lot of options
when it comes to the contents. Some suggestions are:
*To make a Witch bottle to aid in grounding, such as in a training group,
fill your bottle with sand, small rocks, granite dust, or other such
materials. Seal it with colored wax or a cork, and place the bottle in view
when it is to be available for use. If made for a training group, upon
graduation/initiation you might consider pouring out a share of the charged
material for each student to make their own bottle.
*For protection from unfriendly forces, you can fill a bottle with sharp
objects such as pins, needles, and nails. You can find ideas for this sort
of Witch bottle in the book "Magical Household" by Scott Cunningham and David
Harrington.
*By collecting appropriate herbs, resins, leaves, and spices and filling a
bottle with them, you can concoct a wide variety of wards, spells, or
talismans. Add vegetable oil or cider vinegar, and you have wonderful gifts
for your friends that not only can enhance their lives with magic, but can
enhance their food as well.
*Colored sand can be sifted into a bottle in order to create patterns of
rough symbols like a rune or planetary sigil. This takes a bit of patience
and care. You need a thin stick, like a tongue depressor, to move the sand
around in order to build the symbol from the bottom up. It takes some
practice, but once you get the hang of it, this looks very impressive,
especially if you use your color correspondences or the more advanced
flashing colors of the Golden Dawn.
*You can use iron or other metal filings to create a magical battery or
repository for specific sorts of workings. Let the filings acquire a good
charge from various rituals, then use them in divination or spellwork as
desired.
*Fill your bottle with different sorts of sawdust from various trees,
according to their magical properties. This is a bottle that can be charged
during the particular month, season, or sabbat appropriate to the wood(s)
used. You may even want to use this sawdust to start ritual fires for
specific sabbats or rites in order to add something special to the
proceedings.
*A bottle filled with ashes from special campfires, or pinches of soil from
campsites you've stayed at, makes a powerful memory catalyst and allows you
to carry some of that energy with you, or to bring it to another ritual or
sacred space like a talisman.
*You can also fill a bottle with a variety of flower petals selected for
their healing properties, attributes, or correspondences to planetary or
other forces. You may want to include a bit of alcohol, vinegar, or olive
oil to preserve the flowers.
Witch bottles are versatile, eminently useful, and can be a lot of fun to
make and share. Once you start playing around with this idea, you'll come up
with your own unique uses and applications.

Casting for Fast Cash Spell
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99

Casting for Fast Cash Spell
Use this spell when you need to find a quick source of income or cash. Start by charging a green or gold candle with your intent. Visualize your need and the money that is necessary to fill that need. Visualize the money being yours and the need being fulfilled, and say:
Money needed,
Plenty fast,
Money revealed
when this spell is cast.
Repeat these words, and feel the energy rise. When you cannot contain the energy any longer, release it to the universe; then ground the remaining energy back into the earth, and spend some time meditating. Open your mind to the universe and its guidance. Keep your eyes, ears, and mind open to any income opportunities that the universe will provide in upcoming days.

A Prayer for Moms and Dads

A Prayer For Moms And Dads
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray my sanity to keep.
For if some peace I do not find,
I'm pretty sure I'll lose my mind.
I pray I find a little quiet
Far from the daily family riot
May I lie back -- not have to think
About what they're stuffing down the sink,
Or who they're with, or where they're at
And what they're doing to the cat.
I pray for time all to myself
Did something just fall off a shelf?
To cuddle in my nice, soft bed
Oh no, another goldfish -- dead!
Some silent moments for goodness sake
Did I just hear a window break?
And that I need not cook or clean.
Well heck, I've got the right to dream.
Yes now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray my wits about me keep,
But as I look around I know
I definitely lost them long ago!

Have a Magical Bon Voyage

Have A Magical Bon Voyage
Whenever we venture far from home, we naturally worry about safety until our return. Magical folklore has passed down to us a variety of methods to invoke protection as we travel in an increasingly dangerous world.
*Mugwort is a travelers' herb of old, one which confers protection upon the one who carries it. Make a simple travel talisman by placing some of the herbs in a white cloth, which can be carried in a purse, glove box, or suitcase throughout your journey.
*Irish moss is another herb which protects travelers. Place pouches of it in suitcases and pockets to take advantage of its energies.
*To ensure a safe return home, pick up three small stones from your property and tell them that you wish them to accompany you on your travels and that, at journey's end, you shall return them to their resting place. The stones will look after you as long as you keep your promise to them. This magical protection probably has roots in Irish legends about homing stones. These are stones which go home by themselves if moved.
*Carry a bloodstone in your left pocket to protect yourself from thieves.
*To keep your suitcase from being opened and items stolen from it, put a pouch of comfrey into each one.
*If you will be traveling to an area you might contract a disease, carry posey petals in your pocket.
*To protect yourself as you sleep in a strange place, turn your pajamas inside out.
*To prevent evil spirits from following you as you set out on your journey, spin three times counterclockwise just as soon as you step outside of the house.
*To protect your car, and all those traveling within it, make a small medicine bag out of cloth or leather and fill it with protective herbs, stones, symbols, and some mugwort. Charge it with your need and place under the driver's seat or in the glovebox.
*Hang a protective symbol, such as a pentagram, from your rearview mirror to cloak your car with protective energy.
*Before you set out on a long car trip, wash your car with security by adding protective herbs to the rinse water. These include rosemary, dill, thyme, pepper, basil, cinnamon, and bay.
*A small pouch of salt on the floor of your car will ground any harm which comes at your car, either intentional or accidental. When you get home, flush the salt down a drain to get rid of any negativity it has absorbed.
*For long hikes or walking tours, place a little flax in your shoes to ensure a safe journey. Bury the herb when you return to your hotel or campsite.
*Carry along some rue to protect you on sea voyages, just as many generations of sailors have done.
*If you will be flying, take along some gorse or hawthorn to protect the plane from lightning strikes.
*To help prevent plane crashes, carry some mugwort, an herb related to "flying" (read astral projection) travels, as well as physical journeys.

Elder's Meditation of the Day

Elder's Meditation of the Day
"everything is laid out for you. Your path is straight ahead of you. Sometimes it's invisible but it's there. You may not know where it's going, but still you have to follow that path. It's the path to the Creator. That's the only path there is."
--Leon Shenandoah, ONONDAGA
Everything on the earth has a purpose and a reason for its existence. Every human being is a warrior and every warrior has a song written in his/her heart and that song must be sung or the soul forever remains restless. This song is always about serving the Great Spirit and helping the people. This song is always sung for the people. Many times I need to learn much about the difficulties of life. I need to know this, so I must experience it. Then I can be of use to the people. Because I am experiencing difficulty does not mean I have left the path or that I have done something wrong. It means I'm doing the will of the Great Spirit during these times of testing. I need to pray constantly to keep a good attitude.
Great Spirit, this I know - You will never leave me, only my doubting makes it seem like You do. This I know - Your love is always dependable, only my doubting makes it seem like You do. Today remove the doubts from my belief system and allow me to stand straight and see You with straight eyes.

Fun Friday--Do You Have A.A.A.S.D.?
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99

Do You Have A.A.A.D.D. ?
Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention
Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests:
I decide to wash my car.
... As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the
hall table.
... I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
... I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the trash
can under the table, and notice that the trash can is full.
... So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the
trash first.
... But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take
out the trash anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.
... I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is only one
check left.
... My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go to my desk
where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.
... I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke
aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see that the Coke is
getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep
it cold.
... As I head toward the kitchen with the coke a vase of flowers on the
counter catches my eye--they need to be watered.
... I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading
glasses that I've been searching for all morning.
... I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to
water the flowers.
... I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with
water and suddenly I spot the TV remote.
... Someone left it on the kitchen table.
... I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for
the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I
decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water
the flowers.
... I splash some water on the flowers, but most of it spills on the
floor.
... So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and
wipe up the spill.
... Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to
do.
... At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid,
there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers aren't
watered, there is still only one check in my checkbook, I can't find the
remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with
the car keys.
... Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really
baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.
... I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help
for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.
... Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to everyone you know,
because I don't remember to whom it has been sent.
... Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!
Laugh Each Day,

The Crone
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99

The Crone
"I am the silence of midnight, and black velvet skies.
I am the shadow of vision that tempers your eyes.
I am the darkness of secrets that draw the veil thin,
The coldness of winter that shakes on your skin.
I am Grandmother, Weaver, Enchantress and Crone,
The Knowledge of Justice that strikes at the bone.
Destruction is mine when its time comes to be;
Death to the living, who all come to me.
Mine is the hand of the spinning of fates,
Mine is the passage between life's fragile gates.
I am the giver of magickal sight,
The slight sliver of waning moonlight.
I am the branch of ageless worn trees.
Hear my voice and know of me!
I am the Raven that flies through the woods,
Black silken wings opened up to the sky!
Bearer of closure, competition, and truth
Dreamscapes and Banshee am I!
Mine is the wisdom that comes in the dark.
Mine is the dying that calls to your flesh.
Mine are the hidden remains of your heart.
Mine is the mist that will take your last breath.
Give unto me what is old and outworn,
And I will return it with new life reborn.
Give me your sorrows, your sadness, your grief,
And in the dark hour, I will give thee relief.
I am the giver of death and rebirth,
Mine are the last things, before they are first.
See me in shadows, and in the dark sea.
I am the Crone!
Hear my voice and know me!"
