Stormy,

Thanks for the information, I will keep these places in mind. We ski in
Steamboat Springs, so that is a place I will be able to find when we go down
there this winter. I love the Rockies! Every year at least once we go up through
Rocky Mountain National Park. I managed to catch a picture of an Aberts
squirrel, which park and game told me was very rare to see them out where there
are people. I sent them the pictures of the Aberts and they used them in an
issue of their Childrens monthly newsletter. That was just tops for me!! I love
the sounds during the summer of all the different birds that are no where else
but there. Its something I look forward too!!

When my husband showed me where Butch and Sundance robbed that train I could
feel the energy and could go back and see it happening. It was a clever place as
it comes around a bend and there is a mountain there where they could hide until
the train came to a stop. If I can find the picture I took of the area I will
share it with you! My husbands name is Butch, and he has always loved the
stories of those two. When his and mine energies are in sync there is a lot that
he picks up from me. I have psychic gifts, which also run in his family, and I
think I have helped make his stronger!!

Saratoga, Wyoming has a natural hot spring, but you don't exactly come out of it
smelling sweet and herbally! But people from all over the world travel there for
its healing elements. I have talked to others when I have visited to find out
what all the springs do for them and a lot of them come there because it helps
their arthritis. The spot where the water comes out of the ground reaches temps
of 108 degrees..its wonderful!! Thanks for reminding me that I do live in an
amazing part of the US. Sometimes one needs a reminder of all the glory that
surrounds them. I think I get bored with it all (believe it or not), but I think
it happens to everyone when they get too used to their surroundings!

Is there a Strawberry wine that you know of?

Blessed Be
Raven

Elder's Meditation of the Day--October 28

Elder's Meditation of the Day - October 28

"Our religion seems foolish to you, but so does yours to me. The Baptists and Methodists and Presbyterians and the Catholics all have a different God. Why cannot we have one of our own?"

-- Sitting Bull, HUNKPAPA LAKOTA

The Creator gave each culture a path to God. To the Indian people, he revealed that the Creator is in everything. Everything is alive with the Spirit of God. The water is alive. The trees are alive. The woods are alive. The mountains are alive. The wind is alive. The Great Spirit's breath is in everything and that's why it's alive. All of nature is our church, we eat with our families in church, we go to sleep in church.

My Creator, let us leave people to worship You in the way You have taught them.

My moon is in Pisces and the description was a perfect fit. I'm a sucker for anyone with a sob story.

The Moonlit Road

We cannot let a Halloween go by without featuring one of our favorite folklore sites, The Moonlit Road, a road where the visitor can read and even hear 'ghost stories and strange folktales of the American South, told by the region's most celebrated storytellers.' There are pictures to go along with the stories as well as 'cultural background' links that enable the viewer/listener to find out more about the background of each story. This site is definitely entertaining all the while imparting a history and cultural experience! Be sure to take the invitation to 'light a lantern, open the gate and come take a walk down The Moonlit Road.'

Here's a tip to freshen those dresser drawers.

Any piece of cardboard that will absorb essential oils can be cut
into any size drawer liner. Add essential oils, wait a few minutes
then replace clothes in drawer.
You can also use cotton balls or an old hanky, even an old sock!
You get the idea.

Does Your Candidate Understand Religious Freedom?

Does Your Candidate Understand Religious Freedom?
Wednesday October 20, 2010

When I was in fifth grade, everyone in Mrs. Curry's class was required to learn the first ten amendments to the Constitution of the United States - those ten amendments which comprise the Bill of Rights. These amendments impose certain limitations on the government itself, and guarantee specific freedoms to citizens. There are other amendments, all of which are equally important, but those first ten we had to learn inside and out. To this day, I'm pretty well able to remember most of them, if not the specifics, then at least the general content.

Which is why I find it thoroughly baffling that at least two political candidates recently have publicly demonstrated a clear and fundamental lack of understanding of the Constitution and the laws of this country. To be specific, both of these individuals seem to be woefully ignorant of the rights and restrictions outlined in the First Amendment.

Delaware Republican Christine O'Donnell (remember, she's the twit who caused all the mutterings by saying she had dabbled in witchcraft a while back) appeared in a debate the other night in which her opponent, Chris Coons, argued against the teaching of creationism in the public schools on the grounds that the First Amendment mandates the disestablishment of religion. O'Donnell replied with, "The First Amendment does? Let me just clarify: You're telling me that the separation of church and state is found in the First Amendment?"

You can practically hear the :::facepalm::: from the collective audience. Coons countered with, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." O'Donnell still needed confirmation that it was part of the First Amendment.

Meanwhile, in Minnesota, Republican Secretary of State candidate Dan Severson has been telling folks flat out that the separation of church and state doesn't even exist, period. Why doesn't it exist? Well, because according to Severson, America is a Christian nation. He told an interviewer, "You simply cannot continue a nation as America without that Christian base of liberty."

Now, here's the thing. The phrase "separation of church and state" does not in fact appear in the Constitution. However, the part known as the establishment clause that says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" is the part that means "government doesn't get to do stuff that has to do with church." That's been confirmed by several Supreme Court decisions. The Constitution keeps religion out of the government and the government out of religion. There's a wall between the two, and never shall they meet.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that there are people who don't really know what the Constitution includes, and usually that's because they've just never been taught (thank you, Mrs. Curry). But when someone is running for office, as an elected official, how can I believe this individual will protect my rights as an American when they don't even have a clue what those rights are? Elections are right around the corner, people - make sure you find out if the candidate you support knows the basics of the laws that they will soon be asked to uphold.

Want to know what the establishment clause really means? Read a great explanation from Tom Head, our About.com guide to Civil Liberty.

13 Spooky Poems to Read Aloud for Samhain

13 Spooky Poems to Read Aloud for Samhain

Samhain night is a great time to sit around a fire telling spooky stories. Check out this witch's dozen of classic scary poems to read, either alone or out loud. Some are for adults, some for kids, but all are worth reading at Samhain!

Edgar Allen Poe, "The Raven"
First published in 1845, this is the classic poem of fear and terror. The narrator never tells us why there's a raven on his threshhold, but a few stanzas in we begin to realize it has to do with his lost love, the mourned Lenore. By the time we reach the end, the narrator is well on his way to madness, driven there by the "stately Raven of the saintly days of yore." For those of us who enjoy a slightly sillier version of our spookiness, watch the original Simpsons Treehouse of Horror (1990), which features Bart sqwawking "Eat my shorts!" at an enraged Homer.

Edgar Allen Poe, "Annabel Lee"
A classic bit of Poe, relating the tale of lost and doomed lovers, and the wind that "came out of the cloud, chilling and killing my Annabel Lee." By the final stanza, you'll be chilled too!

Traditional ballad, "Tam Lin"
First written down by James Francis Child in 1729, the tale of Tam Lin has been around for centuries. Young Tam Lin finds himself out on Halloween, and drawn into the arms of the Queen of the Fae in her seductive green mantle.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner"
A wedding guest meets an old sailor, and finds himself the recipient of this scary narrative, originally written in 1798. Coleridge's ancient mariner relates the tale of what happened to the men of a doomed ship, and hopes to find absolution for himself in the telling of the story.

Robert Burns, "Halloween"
Burns' Scottish dialect may be hard to translate for some readers, but if you take the time to figure out the story, it's well worth it. The family in the poem particpates in some traditional Halloween customs, including divination and the pulling of oats for a blessing.

William Shakespeare, Witches Spell Scene from "Macbeth"
"Double, double, toil and trouble" is the classic line from Shakespeare's MacBeth, written in 1606. A veritable grocery list of vile spell ingredients, this is great fun to read aloud on a dark and windy night. For a bit of extra fun, read it as your little ones are doing inventory of their Halloween loot bags.

Jack Prelutsky, "It's Halloween!"
Fun and silly, this is typical Prelutsky poetry that your little witchlets are sure to enjoy.

Robert Frost, "Ghost House"
Written in classic Frost style, this poem evokes the feeling we've all gotten at one point or another, looking at an empty home site, or a field where nothing remains but the mists.

Lord Byron, "Darkness"
In 1816, young George Gordon Lord Byron wrote this eerie tale of despair and sadness in which humanity and mankind itself are defeated by the things that lurk in the dark.

Percy Bysshe Shelley, "A Lament"
While his wife was busily penning Frankenstein, Percy Bysshe Shelley was scribbling away at poems of sadness and woe. Composed in 1821, the year before his death, A Lament is a simple yet sad acknowledgement of our own mortality.

Emily Dickinson, "Because I Could Not Stop For Death"
One of Dickinson's most evocative works, this poem takes us for a carriage ride with Death himself.

An Irish Blessing

I wouldn't bury it in my yard; maybe a park or somewhere close to you.
