NO. Please, before you use anything for pregnancy, check with whoever is
overseeing your care. Several of these herbs, including raspberry leaf, can
cause abortion or bleeding. It is indeed a tonic for female reproductive
organs but its function is to induce cycles and to smooth them. This, of
course, is very dangerous for a woman carrying a baby. There are far better
ways than drinking a tea with raspberry leaf in it to get those nutrients,
such as eating a balanced diet.

For the nausea, try several very small meals a day. It's not just hormones
which cause it; the baby starts taking up space which would normally be
allotted for your digestive system. Bland foods usually work best and
believe it or not, the time honored remedy of eating a few dry crackers
before getting out of bed helps a lot.

Your doctor can give you better nutritional guidelines about what foods are
best.

Fran,
I am so glad that you jumped in on that. I just about screamed out loud
when I saw the raspberry. That is a major NO.

One thing to remember about what was written down in old days (eg, your
Memaw's grimoire) was not always what it appeared to be. Imagine that
the local herbalist had written down, "Abortion Tea." Instead, she
would have written "Pregnancy Tea" knowing herself what it truly meant.

"There are still those who would not say it because it constitutes pledging to an item or an idol rather than their God."

I was thinking about it, and we really do idolize our flag here in the U.S.
We are taught to salute the flag with our hand over our heart; a flag at the end of it's service should be burned, the flag should never touch the ground, and various other rules regarding it. Flags are also burned in protest. In other countries it is not this way. In Germany, for example, their flag would never be displayed as ours is(I realize part of this has to do with their recent history). Anyway, I think we do make our flag into some type of idol here and this is uniquely different from the rest of the world.

Elder's Meditation of the Day--October 17

Elder's Meditation of the Day - October 17

"Peace... comes within the souls of men when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the Universe dwells Wakan-Tanka, and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us."

-- Black Elk (Hehaka Sapa) OGLALA SIOUX

If we are to know peace we must look within ourselves. In order to do this, we must learn to be still. We must quiet the mind. We must learn to meditate. Meditation helps us locate and find the center that is within ourselves. The center is where the Great One resides. When we start to look for peace, we need to realize where it is within ourselves. When we experience conflict we need to pause for a moment and ask the Power within ourselves, "How do you want me to handle this? What would you suggest I do in this situation?" By asking the Higher Power for help we find peace.

Creator, help me to find peace.
