Believe in Tomorrow Spell
October 25
Monday

Color of the day: Ivory
Incense of the day: Lily

This is an autumn planting ritual that will renew your spirit.
Spring-flowering bulbs are always planted in the autumn; in so doing, you're
reaffirming your belief that there will be a tomorrow.

For this spell, the soil will serve as your altar and your garden tools will be
your magical tools. Prepare your planting area; it needn't be large. Smell the
rich earth as you turn the soil and visualize it bursting with color next
spring. Select your bulbs. These could be crocus and daffodils to bring luck.
Hyacinths will draw protection and happiness with their fragrance. And tulips
are known to attract love. Or you may select other bulbs. As you plant, handle
your bulbs with reverence. The bulbs will appear to be dry and lifeless, but
each bulb contains the mystery of life renewed. In essence, you're holding
tomorrow in your hands. After planting, leave a coin in the soil as a sign of
thanks.

Elder's Meditation of the Day October 25

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Elder's Meditation of the Day October 25
"What does it matter how long I pray, so long as my prayers are answered?"
--Sitting Bull, HUNKPAPA LAKOTA
Too often we worry about the words we use in prayer. We focus on the words.
What really counts is the spirit and intent behind our words. It is the spirit
and intent that the Creator responds to. He reads and listens to our heart.
Prayer isn't only when we fold our hands and pray. Prayer is when we talk to
the Creator even when we are walking down a path or sitting on a hill or walking
in the mountains. The Elders say, walk in prayer. We should be willing to talk
with the Great One.

Great Spirit, today I will pray to You all day. Listen to my heart.

Aromatherapy Tip of the day.....Frankincense

Frankincense

Frankincense, also known as Olibanum

The fragrance is warm, calming, balsamic, with a hint of camphor. It is
often used in meditation and ceremonies and improves with age.

Good for nervous tension, and stress relief.

Relaxing in a massage with Lavender as it helps to regulate and deepen
respiration. Helpful for all respiratory disorders.

DailyOM - Being Gentle with Ourselves
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

October 25, 2010
Create Time for Self-Compassion
Being Gentle with Ourselves
The more we are able to treat our bodies with gentleness, the more compassion we
will call forth into our lives.

During those times when our lives are filled with what seems to be constant
change and growth, it is important to remember that we need to be gentle with
ourselves. Since it can be easy to use our energy to keep up with the momentum
of our lives, we may not be aware of the fact that we are much more likely to
run ourselves down. When things seem to be moving quickly, it is especially
essential that we make a point to slow down and be gentle with ourselves.

It might be difficult to notice what is happening to us for we may be so caught
up in the whirlwind of our lives that we lose sight of the direction in which
things are heading. Being gentle with ourselves doesn't mean that we don't
accomplish things. Instead it means that we honor ourselves on an ongoing basis
and take care of the needs of our bodies.

This means different things to different people. For instance, it could mean
having a session with a healer; taking a remedy, herbs, or vitamins; or getting
extra sleep. Putting our energy into ourselves in this way helps create space
for a more positive, loving, and accepting view of our lives. By setting the
intention to do so, we will be more cognizant of our energy levels on a daily
basis and more able to replenish them as needed.

The more we are able to treat our bodies with gentleness, the more tenderness
and compassion we will call forth into our lives. Learning to understand and pay
attention to what our self needs will in turn allow us to fill our lives with
unlimited loving and healing energy and to truly take care of the things that
mean the most to us.

* Egypt/Kemet: Hathor's Moon festival. Hathor was the nurturing mother goddess,
represented as the cow, who was patron of
fertility sexual love, childbirth, mothering, and nursing. The Dance of Hathor,
in which groups of girls holding mirrors in one
hand and rattles in the other would dance together, was only part of the

Today's Goddess:  Tellus Mater Birthday of the Earth

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Oct 25, 2010 8:26 pm (PDT)

Today's Goddess: Tellus Mater
Birthday of the Earth

Themes: Earth, Ecology, Promises, Abundance, Prosperity, Fertility
Symbols: Globe, Soil, Grain

About Tellus Mater: The Roman Earth Mother celebrates today's festivities by
sharing her abundance, being a Goddess of vegetation, reproduction and increase.
In regional stories, Tellus Mater gave birth to humans, which is why bodies are
returned to the soil at death - so they can be reborn from her womb anew.

To Do Today: According to James Ussher, a seventeenth-century Anglican
archbishop, God created the earth on October 26, 4004 B.C.E. While this date is
uncertain at best, it gives is a good excuse to honor Tellus Mater and hold a
birthday party on her behalf. Make a special cake for the Earth Mother out of
natural fertilizers. Take this to a
natural setting, (don't forget the candle). Light the candle and make a wish for
the earth's renewal, then blow it out, remove the candle, and bury your gift for
Tellus Mater in the soil, where it can begin manifesting your good wishes!

While you are outside, pick up a pinch of soil, a stone, or any natural object
that catches your eye and keep it close.

This is a part of Tellus Mater, and it will maintain her power for abundance
whenever you go today. It will also help you stay close to the Earth Mother and
honor the living spirit of earth in word and deed..

Home Preparedness - How To Prepare Your Home For Winter

Home Preparedness - How To Prepare Your Home For Winter
Gathering non-electric sources for lighting, cooking and for warmth.

Power outages tend to be a common occurrence in our area during the winter. By
being prepared, these outages, instead

of being stressful and worrisome times, have created some fond memories for our
family...sitting around the kitchen table
playing games by candlelight, munching on cheese and crackers and sipping cups
of hot cocoa that was heated on top of

our wood stove which is radiating warmth throughout the room...

Some of those power outages continued for 5 days! Since most of our homes need
electricity to function, being prepared
for a power outage is important and can help alleviate the fear and stress that
these situations can create.

A) Non-electric sources for lighting.

The following are excellent sources for non-electric lighting. Put these items
in an easy to get to place, one that you will
remember and be able to find safely in the dark.

*A box of matchbooks.
*Tapered candles - This type puts out alot of light.
*Candle holders
*Flash light
*Batteries for the flashlight
*Kerosene lamps or Oil lamps
*Spare kerosene or lamp oil

B) Non-electric sources for cooking

Cooking without electricity can be just like cooking while camping. A Coleman
camp stove is a good investment. They are
fairly inexpensive and most use the disposable propane canisters which make them
convenient and less messy. One will fit

on the kitchen counters nicely.

When using camp stoves in the house be sure to have a window partially open for
some ventilation. When done cooking put the

stove outside right away as most tend to leak propane when not in use.

DO NOT use charcoal briquettes indoors - very toxic and dangerous!

If you have a wood stove that a pot will sit safely on, then you can use it to
heat pots of food and kettles of water. keep a pot
of water on top of it to use for warming up washing (body or dishes) water.

*Coleman type table top cook stove
*Several spare Propane canisters, the one liter size. Or a 5 gallon size if
your stove can be hooked up to it.

C) Non-electric sources for heating

If you have a wood stove installed in your home chances are you have a cord or
more stacked and ready for use. Wood

stoves are an excellent source of non-electric heat.

If a wood stove is not applicable to you, there are other ways to keep warm when
the electricity goes out. Some ways are:

*Portable alcohol heaters
*Kerosene heaters
*Wool blankets
*Warm clothing - long johns under clothes, stocking caps, wool
socks, slippers, etc.

Lehman's is a popular resource for all survival type needs. They have many
different types of nonelectric appliances, solar

powered items, food and water storage supplies and more. You can see their
website at:

http://www.lehmans.com/

With all the candles and open flames you will have operating during a power
outage it is vital that you have a fire

extinguisher. Mount one in a visible easy to reach place.

Let us take a hint from nature and take the time now to prepare our homes for
winter.

The Enuma Elish, Babylonian Creation Story

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Oct 25, 2010 8:29 pm (PDT)

his is how the world was made:
mother Tiamat cried out in anger at her children's arrogance,
shaking her whole body as she chanted incantations and cast spells over them.
Her son Marduk approached her bearing weapons,
and Tiamat opened her mouth wide, to devour him.
But he propelled a wind into her stomach, which filled
up with air. When she opened up her mouth again, he shot her with
an arrow, which split her heart, split her sides right in two. Half
fell beneath and formed the earth; half Marduk lifted up
to heaven. ~The Enuma Elish, Babylonian Creation Story

This is one of many stories of the defeat of a great Goddess by her son, who
then uses her body to form the world. These stories seem to say two things at
once. Is the Goddess defeated? Or is her death a great creative moment, for her
body forms the world?
Holding contradictions and ambiguities in our mind is difficult. It seems far
easier to choose one side or the other, or to say that these stories are
negative toward the feminine principle or that the goddess is ultimately
triumphant. But truth is more elusive than ideology. In the story of Tiamat,
the Goddess is both destroyed and is triumphant. There is no way to have just
one part of this duality.

Similarly, in our lives we often confront people whose lives are ambiguous and
contradictory. The friendly man who sends money to destructive causes. The
gifted teacher who seduces students. The dedicated mother who is critical of
her children. It is tempting to concentrate on only one aspect of these flawed
human beings. But true wisdom demands we hold their contradiction lovingly in
mind.

Magical Apple Doll Spell

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Oct 25, 2010 8:31 pm (PDT)

Magical Apple Doll Spell
Incense of the day: Myrrh

In Appalachia there is a charming folk art custom of making apple dolls. These
dolls lend themselves to many magical uses. A few nights before an autumn Full
Moon, peel a red apple, then carve a face into it. As you do this concentrate
on your magical intent. It may be used as a protective house talisman, or as a
love charm. Hang the apple by a wire to dry for about three weeks, and don't
disturb it or the enchantment will be lost. The face will take on its own
characteristics as it dries. Use as a poppet, or attach the apple to a stick
and dress it with scraps of cloth to create a folk doll. Keep the doll to
protect your home, or release the spell at Yule by burning the doll in a
holiday fire.

Earth Service Message from Heron

Posted by: "Ash" mhc4sure@yahoo.com   mhc4sure

Mon Oct 25, 2010 8:33 pm (PDT)

Greetings Friends,

Lately the Herons have been very active. I love to watch them
nesting high in the trees by the river or standing alone wading
and fishing. A lone Heron has appeared in Crystal Lake lately
standing on a log close to the path content to let us watch him in
the evening light.

~*~

Mother, you came to me yesterday as Heron four times. Often I
admire your form in this magnificent bird. Great Blue heron do
you have a few words for me today?

~*~

Yes, I am Heron, the wader. Like you I prefer the quiet of Being
Alone on Crystal Lake or fishing silently along the banks of the
River. But I also love the Spring, a time for gathering together
high in the trees to nest and raise the young ones.

Thank You for your Respect on behalf of all Creatures. All are of
One Creator. So often it is heard and said, "All is One" that you
often hear only half way, only with the brain.

To know this Truth, - All One - begin Alone where there is no
Other to distract you. Let your feet sink into the mud and stand
firmly balanced and listen until the feeling drops into your One
Heart.

In this place you will not have to try to love one another or
yourself. You will begin to feel the awakening of the Heart's
natural Love and Respect for All Life. You will "know that you
know" with a deeper Wisdom than what is in your mind.

I stand steady on two legs. This World is built on pairs, tow
sides to every coin. The flip side of All is One, One is All, shows
how the Great Mystery many-fested itSelf into many diverse
forms: People, Animals, Plants, Stones... each with a unique
essence, place and purpose.

I am here to help you sense your own Uniqueness, then find
your place and purpose in the stream of Creation. I also help
you see that your "purpose" is also a many-festation, a
multifaceted, multi-dimensional experience not limited to a
narrow scope.

I help you open to the Infinite Possibilities always available
through One hearted devotion to All. Stay open and you will
grow easily and naturally by the Grace of the One Love.

~*~

Thank You Heron.

Bless Bless, Pine Tree

SAMHAIN-OCTOBER 31 (SOW-EN)

A white lace of frost webs the sidewalk kaleidoscope of leaves. Hillsides are
ablaze with flame-colored trees, fields lie fallow and dark, and cornstalks dry
to the color of bone in the low golden sun. The sky promises rain tonight and
winds rise to torture the clouds. Fog swirls down the darkened street,
shrouding the candlelit grin of a glowing jack-o-lantern, and the veil between
the land of the living and land of the dead grows as thin and insubstantial as
the mist.

It is Samhain (pronounced sow-en), known also as All Hallow's Eve or Halloween.
This is the third harvest festival of the year, a time to honor our departed
loved ones and the night when, in legend, the spirits of the dead returning to
the Underworld to await his rebirth at Yule; the Goddess is the Crone, mourning
her lost love, leaving the world for a time in darkness.

In ancient times, people slaughtered cattle at Samhain, leaving the breeding
stock alive for the following spring, each year wondering if there would be food
enough to survive the coming winter. They celebrated despite the fear-balefires
burned on every hillside, great feasts were held, and places were set at the
table for the spirits who walked the Earth. For the Celts, this was New Years
Eve; in some traditions, Samhain marked a "time out of time," the ending of the
old year, the new year not beginning until the Sun's rebirth at Yule.

Samhain is considered the oldest and most sacred of the the Sabbats; opposite
Beltane on the Wheel of the Year, these two high holy days honor death and life
in their unending spiral. Symbols of this Sabbath include the cauldron, which
represents the womb of the Goddess, brooms, masks, skeletons, pomegranates, and
of course, jack-o-lanterns. The colors of Samhain are late autumn rusts,
scarlets, browns, and golds, as well as black for the protection and the orange
for the power of fire.

Customs of this Sabbat are ancient and include the "Dumb Supper," setting a
place for the silent souls of departed loved ones at your table and lighting
their way to your hearth with carved pumpkins and candlelight.

Make masks to wear and to decorate your doorway. Masks were used to confuse or
frighten away unwanted spirits in times past; today, make them gaudy and
glittery, using fabric, feathers, beads, and trinkets to honor the many faces of
the Goddess and the God.

Carve a grinning jack-o-lantern and place it on the front porch or walkway to
welcome friendly souls and protect your home from mischievous ones, as our
ancestors did long ago.

All forms of divination are paramount on Samhain Eve. Dark mirrors for scrying
("seeing" psychically or mentally), Tarot cards, runes, or pendulums are all
perfect tools for utilizing the heightened spiritual energies at this Sabbat.
More playful means of divining are derived from Victorian Samhain celebrations.
For example, to discover the identity of your true love, peel an apple in one
long strip, let it fall to the ground, and read the initials in the bends and
curves; or put acorns in front of a fire, name each, and wait to see which one
pops first.

Leave your favorite candy out for all the visiting "spirits" as people left food
and wine on the stoop for the faerie folk and the wondering souls on Samhain of
old.

Contemplate the coming winter, and use this time out of time to let die old ways
of thinking, outworn beliefs, and negative patterns. Meditate, rest, and
incorporate relaxation techniques over the next weeks to deepen your own rebirth
at Yule, as the Wheel comes round full circle once again.

In a Witch's year, holidays are rhythmic, magical, sublime. They make sense,
and the spirit finds you. Winter seems far less daunting when you celebrate the
return of light in the heart of the darkness. And the dog days of summer seem
tamer when you realize that the Sun's mighty force wanes a little more with the
passing of each day. On the Wheel of the Year, every Earth change is a
celebration, and every celebration is an opportunity to strengthen your
connection to yourself, your people, your planet, and you God/Goddess.

So Mote it Be.......

Samhain Lore

It is traditional on Samhain night to leave a plate of food outside the home of
the souls of the dead. A candle placed in the window guides them to the lands of
eternal summer, and burying apples in the hard-packed earth "feeds" the passed
ones on their journey.

For food, beets, turnips, apples, corn, nuts, gingerbread, cider, mulled wines
and pumpkin dishes are appropriate, as are meat dishes.
