This Week - Discovering the Mayan Calendar!, Butler NJ

Mon Aug 8, 2011 3:23 am (PDT)

Greetings Beings of Love,

There is a lot of talk about the ancient Mayan calendar, and how it "ends" on December 21, 2012 - marking the end of our world.  This is not entirely accuate.  The Mayan Calendar does not end, but the 12/21/12 date is significant.  It marks the end of an era, and we are already feeling the effects of the bigger changes ahead.

The Mayan calendar can be used in many ways.  Though it looks simple, it is a highly spiritual system that you can tap into to guide you on your path each day.

I will be facilitating a workshop, "De-Mystifying The Mayan Calendar" at Peaceful Paths this Saturday, August 13th from 3pm - 5pm.  This very unique workshop will share many hidden ways of working with the calendar to help enrich your life and guide your journey.  These ways cannot be found in books. You will know learn your Mayan birth sign and what it means for you as well.  Space is limited, so please RSVP to me to reserve your space.  General details are below.

Many Blessings....

In Love and Harmony,
~Denise~

3:00pm – 5:00pm
Peaceful Paths, 7 High Street, Butler, NJ

The ancient Maya created an intricate, intelligent, flowing calendar to mark the wheel of time for eternity.  Like a Divinely-inspired array of synchronized gears, the magickal Mayan Calendar tic tocks through time.
In this class, we will review how to understand the mathematical basics of the Mayan Calendar, as well as its deeper mystical counterparts.  You will understand how the Great Wheel works, and begin to forge a personal relationship to each of the day signs for a lifetime of learning the Wisdom of the Maya and its Spirit/Medicine.  Everyone will also learn their unique Mayan zodiac sign and what it means.
Please bring a notebook/pen, a cushion to sit or lie on, and wear comfortable clothing.
Space is limited, so please RSVP to Denise at swiftwindtherapy@gmail.com or 862-268-3213.
Note: This class is not solely about traditional interpretations of the calendar.  It is "geared" to transcend into a simple, highly spiritual practice of walking in awareness, beauty, wisdom, and balance.  You will become initiated into what Truth lies for you in the ancient Mayan Calendar.

DailyOM - Taming Monkey Mind in Meditation
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

August 8, 2011
Quiet Please!
Taming Monkey Mind in Meditation
We all have the endless chattering and noise in our head often referred to as the monkey mind.

It's been called the monkey mind – the endless chattering in your head as you jump in your mind from thought to thought while you daydream, analyze your relationships, or worry over the future. Eventually, you start to feel like your thoughts are spinning in circles and you're left totally confused.

One way to tame this wild creature in your head is through meditation – although the paradox is that when you clear your mind for meditation you actually invite the monkey in your mind to play. This is when you are given the opportunity to tame this mental beast by moving beyond thought – to become aware of a thought rather than thinking a thought. The difference is subtle, but significant. When you are aware of your thoughts, you can let your thoughts rise and float away without letting them pull you in different directions. Being able to concentrate is one of the tools that allows you to slow down your thought process and focus on observing your thoughts.

To develop your concentration, you may want to start by focusing on the breath while you meditate. Whenever your monkey mind starts acting up, observe your thoughts and then return your focus to your breath. Some breathing meditations call on you to focus on the rise and fall of the breath through the abdomen, while others have you concentrate on the sound of the breath. Fire can also be mesmerizing, and focusing on a candle flame is another useful tool for harnessing the mind. Keep the gaze soft and unfocused while observing the color, shape, and movement of the flame, and try not to blink. Close your eyes when you feel the need and continue watching the flame in your head. Chanting, devotional singing, and mantras also still the mind. However you choose to tame the monkey mind, do so with firm kindness. The next time the chattering arises, notice it and then allow it to go away. With practice, your monkey mind will become quiet and so will you.

Water Elemental Meditation

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Aug 8, 2011 8:53 pm (PDT)

Water Elemental Meditation
Incense of the day: Maple

For this spell, you will need
drinking water, an open glass container such as a jar or bowl, and some
sounds of water if possible—either a recording of rain or running water, or if possible sit near a fountain or stream. You should be able to
hear, see, smell, touch, and taste water. To start, listen to its sound. Next, look at the water source or at the water in your container. Pause to consider how vital water is to our existence. Think of all the ways
we use it and how life would be without it. Be grateful for water. Touch it, and then take a drink. Engage all your senses in experiencing
water. The element of water represents emotions and feelings. Try to get in touch with this aspect of yourself, and consider all the aspects of
water—rain, lakes, springs, streams, and oceans, and its association
with the womb. Do this for at least ten or fifteen minutes, then say:

Ripples on the pond,
Sacred spring and well,
The current and the tide,
Watch it flow and swell.
Water of the earth,
Water from above,
Waters of the world,
Fill us with your love.

Daily Aromatherapy Tip  - Alpha Brain Waves

Daily Aromatherapy Tip - Alpha Brain Waves

Relaxing in a warm scented bath induces alpha brain waves, which enhance concentration
and are more likely to trigger intuition than the rapid beta waves we experience throughout
our normal day. Researchers agree that intuitive thoughts come suddenly and ususally when
we're relaxing.

The Magickal Apple

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Aug 8, 2011 8:54 pm (PDT)

The Magickal Apple
.
Imagine the perfect apple, ripe and bursting with life. Sliced in half, it reveals a beautiful five-point
symmetry-a star formed by the seeds inside. In fact, each of these five seeds may be seen to contain
a symbolism of its own mirroring the spiritual aspects of this universal symbol: idea, sustenance, life,
secret knowledge and the hidden mysteries within the earth.
" An apple a day keeps the doctor away, " you say ? Did you know
that people who work in cider, vinegar and applesauce plants often
suffer fewer colds and other respiratory ailments than the rest of
us? Or that if apples and apple juice are substituted for citrus in
the diet, arthritic conditions are improved ?

A little apple juice boiled with cinnamon helps settle an upset
stomach. As early as the 13th Century, baked apples served with a
few caraway seeds were recommended for post dinner digestive. The
tradition of serving applesauce with pork and goose stems from the
fact that the acids in the apple help the digestion of other foods.

Indeed, the unsweetened juice of the apple can help reduce
acidity of the stomach. Raw sour apples are stewed apples help cure
even severe cases of constipation. Hot apple juice with or without
honey helps sooth sore throats.

But apples are cultivated not only for their medicinal properties
and culinary uses, they can also have a very important place in myth
and legend.

Apple is one of the Celtic holy trees, one of the woods from
which magic rune staves could be carved, and from which the Druids
gathered their secret mistletoe symbol of healing and fertility.

Avalon, the island to which the dying King Arthur was taken, was
called " The Isle Of Apples "; it was thought to be the Garden of
Hesperides, where Jason and the Argonauts came to find the golden
apples of immortality.

The much maligned apple of the Garden of Eden was probably a
pomegranate. Other, familiar legends have evil witches and
sorcerers poisoning or turning apples into love charms to surprise
the unwary.

At one time, I actually came across an old spell for making a love apple:

Take a 2 colored apple. Breathe on the green part and rub the red
part with red flannel. Then say, " Fire sweet and fire red, warm the
heart and turn the head. " Kiss the red part and give it to your
intended. When it's eaten he/she is yours !! Enough tales. Let's
take our apples to the kitchen.

Witches Apple Pudding:

Dough:
2 cups flour
4 Tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup milk
1/2 Tsp. salt
1/3 cup shortening
1 egg

Combine the above ingredients as you would for biscuits and set aside for later.

Fillings:
6 apples sliced
1 Tsp. cinnamon
3 Tsp. sugar or honey
1 Tsp. nutmeg

Combine in baking dish.

Syrup:
1 cup water
1 Tsp. butter
1 cup sugar or 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup honey.

Bring syrup to a boil. Drop the biscuit mixture on top of the
fruit. Pour hot syrup over all and bake at 375 degrees for about 40
minutes. Serve warm. Vanilla ice cream makes a lovely addition.

Apple and Raisin Oatmeal Cookies

1 cup sugar or 1/2 honey & sugar
1 cup of milk
1 cup of butter
2 eggs
1 scant Tsp. soda
2 cups flour
1 Tsp. cinnamon
2 cups old fashioned oatmeal
1 large diced apple { Leave skin on }

Cream sugar, butter and eggs. Add milk. Add dry ingredients. Mix
well and stir in apple. Drop onto cookie sheet and bake at 350-375
degrees. This makes a large, soft cookie.

For the lazy or calorie minded, try microwaving an apple after
you've cored it. Sprinkle on a little cinnamon and ground cloves,
add a few drops of maple syrup, some sunflower seeds or chopped
nuts. Put it in the microwave for 5 minutes and behold !
{ A magickal desert.}

Japanese Song From Noh Plays

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Aug 8, 2011 9:00 pm (PDT)

Look at the Moon!
A cinnamon tree is there,
twined about with mist.
A Goddess lives in it:
her hair, the mist, the tree's leaves,
all are confused in a swirl of light.
Let us dance now, dance
to turn the Moon around,
dance to see its dark mysteries.
~Japanese Song From Noh Plays

During
this month, the Japanese Tsukimi or moon-evening festival was
traditionally held. On the day after the eighth full moon of the year,
people gathered to view the harvest moon from porches or windows or
gardens. Poets wrote special poems for the occasion, cooks made special
dumplings or rice cakes. A ritual tug-of-war was held, indicating that
the season is now tugging toward winter. Offerings were set out,
surrounded by grasses that symbolized the coming harvest.

Prayers
were addressed to the moon, wherein a goddess is said to live. Control
of seasonal storms were in her power, so it was important to flatter and invoke her, begging that late storms not destroy the precious harvest.
The combination of jollity and fear is common to harvest festivals, for
there is no assurance that a crop  - or a project, or a love affair, or
any of our risky human endeavors - will be successful until it has
concluded.

Goddess For Today:  Auge Saint Lawrence Day (Spain/Italy)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Aug 8, 2011 9:23 pm (PDT)

Goddess For Today:  Auge
Saint Lawrence Day (Spain/Italy)

Themes:  Fire; Fertility
Symbols: Hearth; Fire; Stove; Cooking Utensils

About Auge: This Spanish Goddess of heat and fertility helps us celebrate today's festivities by providing our
cooking fire!  Auge also inspires the warmth of passion so that fertility will flow in the relationship and on a
physical level if desired.

To Do Today:  In an odd turn of events, the same saint who was roasted alive because of his wit became the Patron
Saint of the kitchen and cookery in Spain and Italy.  In keeping with this theme, prepare a grilled or roasted food today,
invoking Auge simply by lighting the flames!

If weather permits, have a fire festival in your yard over the barbecue of hibachi, and bless your cooking utensils by
placing them momentarily in the flames.  As you do, add an incantation like this one:

"By the forge, by the fire, Auge build the power higher.
Within these tools let there be an abundance of fertility"!

Use these tools outside or in your kitchen whenever you need extra productivity.  Should the weather not cooperate,
this spell works perfectly on a gas stove, which gives off a flame in which Auge can dwell.

Finally wear red or orange hues today (the colors of fire), and remember to light a candle to honor this Goddess.
Consider dabbing on some fiery aromas, too, like mint, orange, or ginger, for a little extra energy and affection.
