Tree Spirits

sacred trees

For all of human existence the humans and the trees have had a special and even spiritual relationship. It is said that the first place man went upon leaving the oceans was up into the trees. Trees offered shelter, food and warmth. Trees became our allies in nature and the Native Americans Indians call them, "Our standing brothers and sisters". Trees therefore became the center for gatherings to worship and to exchange knowledge. One of the most well known creation myths had at its heart a Tree of Knowledge. In the Book of Genesis, the tree of knowledge was in the Garden of Eden. God forbade man to eat the fruit of this tree which would awaken him to his ability to think and reason for himself. (see: Earth Mother)

Every tribal people had its tales of local and guardian spirits of the tree. These spirits were guardians of the forest, often guarding a treasure or secret within the forest and each of the trees themselves had a connection to a spiritual connection of its own. Trees formed an important part of religious worship and many Sacred Groves served as religious centers throughout the world. It may be of interest to note that with the coming of the patriarchal Church religious gatherings moved from these sacred groves into grottos within the Earth and away from the spirits of the trees once so important to those early peoples reverence for Mother Earth.

Within these sacred trees was thought to reside another type of Nature Spirit, spirits that were of an elemental nature of wood and theses were the Spirits of the Trees. These tree spirits were thought to be of two essences male and female. "Tree Fauns" were the male tree spirits. Tree fauns were said to be wise and kind, but reserved in their dealings with humans. They were sensitive to the emotions of women and would sometimes court their souls. "Tree Nymphs" were the female tree spirits. More playful and adventurous with humans they would often fall in love with a human man. Dryads were the female tree spirits of Greek Mythology. Technically, dryads are the nymphs of oak trees, but the term is now used for all tree nymphs.

Tree Spirits were long-lived, but not immortal. If the tree died, the spirit associated with it died as well. For that reason, the Greek gods punished any mortals who harmed trees without first appeasing the tree spirits. It is highly doubtful that much thought is given today to the idea of mollifying the tree spirits as the great forests of the Earth are being cleared by the machinery of man.

............................

The Spiritual Properties of Trees

sacred trees

Each tree has a spiritual essence, but there are special trees that appeal to the human condition because of the special properties they bare. For this reason there were certain trees that were seen as holding special dominion over the affairs of man and of nature and sacred groves of trees are of great religious importance to many culture and are the meeting place for activities and rituals. Within the grove all become linked and hidden knowledge is revealed. The trees below are especially symbolic and have been throughout history.

.

Alder Tree -- Associated with water. The catkin bearing alder tree resists decay in its watery habitat and the water spirits or undines love this tree as does the unicorn. The leaves of an alder tree can be made into a tea to treat kidney problems.

Apple Tree -- The custodian of wisdom and tree of the soul. Freya, the goddess of wisdom walks through heaven dispensing golden apples to the gods which will give them the gift of wisdom and understanding and the day of the apple tree is Friday (Freya's day). To grow an apple tree in the garden is a happy omen and the Celts believe that apple trees grow in the Celtic paradise. The apple tree man dwells in the middle of the apple trees and he is the guardian of their fertility and the fairy protector of the spirit of the goddess.

Ash Tree -- It is said to be an ancestor of humankind. In Greece powerful families were believed to have come from ash trees. In Norse mythology the sacred ash is believed to be the entire support structure of the universe and even today, in certain places, people will leave tokens of human hair hanging from an ash tree in hopes that their wishes, hopes and desires will be granted. Used in fashioning witch's wands for healing.

Aspen Tree â€" The tree of heroes whose crowns of poplar leaves gave them the power not only to visit the Underworld, but also to return safely. The aspen crowns found in ancient burial mounds may have been included to allow the spirits of the deceased to return to be reborn. An aspen leaf placed under the tongue would make the bearer more eloquent, traditionally a gift of the Faerie Queen.

Bay Tree -- The tree of healing. It is associated with masculine principles and medicine, music, and the rays of the sun. The bay protects dwellings and gardens. Bay leaves crowned poet, heroes and important men. Grow a bay tree near your house for it protects your dwelling and wards off illness. When a baby is born it is lucky to celebrate by planting a bay tree for the baby's sake. Never plant a bay tree where vines grow.

Birch Tree -- Associated with Lammas tide on August 1, the light of the stars, the moon and the sun. It is a symbol of summer ever returning. It is said the birch is the mother of the oak tree because in prehistoric times it was the birch that prepared the earth floor for the majestic oak to be born. It is said the fairies love this tree in the springtime. Used in fashioning witch's wands for banishing.

Blackthorn Tree -- A winter tree, its fruits, called "sloes", only ripen after the first frost. The wood of the Blackthorn is traditionally used to make the Irish shillelagh. It represents the influence of fate or outside influences.

Bramble Tree -- The fairies love the bramble tree because it is wild and protects the penetration of secluded sacred faerie clearings.

Broom Tree -- The properties associated with the broom tree are that of astral travel and flight. The Irish called it the "Physician's power" because of its diuretic shoots. Sweep your outside ritual areas with it to purify and protect. Burning the blooms and shoots calms the wind. Be cautious if you plant Broom however, it will quickly multiply.

Cedar Tree -- Also known as the Tree of Life, Arbor Vitae, Yellow Cedar. Ancient Celts on the mainland used cedar oil to preserve the heads of enemies taken in battle. To draw Earth energy and ground yourself, place the palms of your hands against the ends of the leaves.

Cherry Tree -- Symbol of death, rebirth and new awakenings. Wild cherry folklore has unusual associations with the cuckoo, whereby the bird has to eat three good meals of cherries before it may stop singing. Folklore from the north east of Scotland warns against using the cherry tree's wood for any purpose, as it was considered a witch's tree. An infusion made of the stalks of the berries is used medicinally to treat bronchitis and anemia.

Elder Tree -- Legends said it was unlucky to bring any part of an elder tree into the house because it would bring a death in the family. It actually has a feminine soul. It is magickal, healing and fragrant. If planting an elder tree in the garden remembers it likes to be protected and hidden. In fact all the fairy trees like to be planted at a distant from others.

Fig Tree -- The fig tree appears in the story of the Garden of Eden when, after eating the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve covered their nakedness with leaves that are usually said to be from the fig tree. The fig tree has a sacred meaning for Buddhists. According to Buddhist legend, the Buddha, achieved enlightenment while sitting under a bo tree, a kind of fig tree. The bo or bodhi tree remains a symbol of enlightenment.

Fir Tree -- The Fir is a very tall slender tree that grows on the upper slopes of mountainous. Fir cones respond to rain by closing and the sun by opening. Fir can see over great distance to the far horizon beyond and below. Fir indicates high views and long sights with clear vision of what is beyond and yet to come.

The Silver Fir Tree -- Brings the knowledge of present and past lives into the now. The color silver links to the "silver thread" of awareness of the spiritual journey and the gift of insight.
Hawthorn Tree -- This is the most sacred tree to the fairies probably because it is so wild, uncompromising and fragrant. If you sit under the thorn tree on May Day Eve, Samhain Eve and Midsummer Eve you can commune with the fairies.

Hazel Tree -- The tree of wishes and tree of the star goddess. It is associated with the Celtic goddess of the stars, Arianrhad, whose image was seen in the stars of the constellation we now know as the constellation of the Corona Borealis. The Hazel is called the tree of wishes because it has the power to grant the hearts desire.

Holly Tree -- Symbol of the life force, vitality and immortality. It is considered a lucky tree to grow in the garden because it wards off negative energies. The shiny green leaves represent the vitality of life even in the coldest of times and is used in Yule for this reason. It is lucky to burn dried holly branches but not if their still green. The male holly tree (the prickly one) and the female holly tree (the smooth variegated one) are inhabited by respectfully the holly man and the holly woman. Used in fashioning witch's wands for protection.

Juniper Tree -- Considered a protective tree and unlucky to cut down a juniper tree. The tree has an abundance of healing properties. Infusions can be made to treat kidney and liver troubles, arthritis, dropsy and help the elderly.

Larch Tree -- The larch plays an important role in Siberian mythology where it takes the place of the ash as the World-tree. Their shamans use larch wood to rim their ceremonial drums. The smoke from burning larch is said to ward off evil spirits. Larch may be used for protection and to induce visions.

Laurel Tree -- Sacred to Apollo. When the Greek nymph Daphne was being chased by Apollo she asked to be changed into another form and Athena transformed her into a Laurel tree. Much respected in Roman times, the Latin word "laurus" means "praise" and "renowned". A symbol of wisdom and glory, the Latin "laureate" means "crowned with laurels", i.e. "poet laureate".

Lilac Tree -- It is the fragrance of the lilac tree that is considered magickal. The fragrance is believed to carry humans into fairyland and the supernal world. English tradition considers the lilac to be an unlucky flower to be brought into the house because it is associated with death, perhaps from the fear of the power of the fragrance of the lilac. It is really quite a beneficiary tree. Its flowers can be eaten and used as a tonic for the nervous system.

Maple Tree -- Maple trees meanings includes balance, promise and practicality. The maple is seen as a happy tree, alluring, mystically bringing together all who gather under it's sheltering branches. Carrying a young child through the branches of a Maple tree was traditionally thought to encourage good health and long life. The Maple is also said to bring lifelong success and abundance.

Mistletoe Tree -- Also known as Birdlime, All Heal and Golden Bough. It was the most sacred tree of the Druids, and ruled the Winter Solstice. The berries are poisonous! Bunches of mistletoe can be hung as an all-purpose protective herb. The berries are used in love incenses.

Oak Tree -- The tree of truth. It is ancient and wise and has an old spirit. The mistletoe of the oak tree has many magickal properties. It is also a marriage tree, symbolic of the marriage between the god and the goddess. If you dance around the oak tree and wear some of its leaves you will have a long and happy marriage. It is said that if there is a question in your heart that you cannot find the answer to then go to an oak tree and embrace it and ask the spirit of the oak tree to answer your question. If you should know the answer it will be send to you in a prophetic dream. The oak is frequently associated with Gods of thunder and lightening such as Zeus and Thor. This association may be due to the oak's habit of being hit by lightening during storms.

Olive Tree -- The symbol of wisdom and peace. The olive tree was the sacred tree of goddess Athena and Athens, the capital of Greece, took its name from the goddess. Zeus had decreed that the city should be given to the god who offered the most useful gift to the people. Poseidon gave them the horse. Athena struck the bare soil with her spear and caused an olive tree to spring up. The people were so delighted with the olive that Zeus gave the city to Athena and named it after her. Athena is often shown with an olive branch, a symbol of peace and plenty.Ancient Greeks used olive oil to fuel their sacred lamps, while specially aged olive oil was used by the church during weddings and baptisms.

Palm Tree -- Palms are the symbols of peace and opportunity. In many historical cultures, palms were also symbols for such victory and fertility. Early Christians used the palm branch to symbolize the victory of the faithful over enemies of the soul. In Judaism, the palm represents peace and plenty.

Pear Tree -- The early Germanic peoples would carve runes into the wood of a pear tree. honored by the Northmen. The pear tree is also mentioned in literature and folklore connected with love and temptation. In Greek and Roman mythology pears are the sacred fruit of the goddesses. The Chinese believed it a symbol of immortality.

Pine Tree -- The tree of the Sun. Its old title was "the sweetest of woods" and the scent of Pine is useful in the reduction of guilt. Like all evergreen trees which do not lose their leaves or green color during the wintertime, the pine tree stands for immortality. In Japan, the pine tree stands as a tribute to strong character and energy because it holds up against strong winds.

Poplar Tree -- The poplar tree is considered the tree of old age and the autumnal equinox . Heracles wore a crown of poplar leaves when he retrieved Cerberus from Hades and the upper surface of the leaves was thus darkened from Hades' smoky fumes. In Christian lore, the quaking poplar was used to construct Christ's cross and the leaves of the tree quiver when they remember this fact. The Poplar's ability to resist and to shield, its association with speech, language and the Winds indicates an ability to endure and conquer.

The White Poplar Tree -- The ability to find the spiritual determination to face the hardships of earthly and material life. This tree has the
Rowan Tree -- The tree of vision, healing, psychic powers, Rowan is associated with witchcraft and is also known as the Wicken Tree and Witchbane. Twigs and branches of the rowan tree help to bestow protection and runes were carved with sticks from a rowan tree. It is also a tree held dear by the Celtic Goddess Brigid. Rowan is also used during rites of the Moon and for rites of knowledge and divination. This is based on the Celtic calendar of the 13 moons and represents the Moon of astral travel and vision, healing and empowerment.

Willow Tree -- Since ancient times the willow tree has been associated with sorrow and death and it is also considered a tree of enchantment. Used in fashioning witch's wands used for divination.

Yew Tree -- Found in ancient cemeteries, this tree is said to grow a root into each corpse in the graveyard and is a symbol of rebirth and may have been used as wood for the "fe" rod, used for measuring of graves and corpses and in the making of shields. It is good medicine for working with past life issues.

How can meditation help you to be psychic?
May 26

Posted by Kris Cahill

The word Psychic is traditionally defined as `of or pertaining to, the human soul'.
A modern definition of psychic would add: `Being psychic means being sensitive to and aware of, energy'. Psychics read the energy of a person, place, event, or situation.

What is energy? Energy is the stuff we are all made of. It's in everyone and everything. Every place has its own energy, as does every single human being. We are each unique, and it's our spirit, our energy, that makes that so.

Since everything is made of energy, and everything begins as energy, this also means that everything you have or create begins with energy too. Included in this list would be your health, self image, relationships, money, career, creativity, level of happiness, and so on.

If you can learn how to become more conscious of the energy around and inside of you, you can have more of an awareness of yourself, and create your own life to be how you'd like it to be.

Being psychic is natural and human. Each human being possesses this ability, though not everyone is aware of having it, or even wants it. If you have a sensitivity to energy, you might feel what others are feeling, or you have gut feelings about people and events that come true. Perhaps you know what others are thinking or what they need before they tell you.

You may even feel so overly sensitive to other people's energies that it's difficult to fully live your life. When your sensitivity to energy is so pronounced that it's uncomfortable to be you, it's because you don't have control of your own abilities. You can learn to protect yourself, to make yourself safe, and to gain control over your abilities.

Psychic abilities include intuition, clairaudience, clairvoyance, telepathy, mediumship, knowingness, and more. Each person will have access to their own abilities in a unique way, and when you embrace having psychic abilities as being normal and fun, a part of life, you open up to having more of you. You make it easier to effortlessly create what it is you want to have in your life.

How does meditation help you to be psychic?
Meditation is a way to know more about yourself, and find out who you are. It's having a conversation within, and finding stillness and peace there. We are constantly driven outside of ourselves, often without stopping for a break from the maelstrom that is modern life. It can feel like one is swimming upstream against the current on those days when there is a lot of energy to handle in the world.

When you take time to meditate regularly, and in particular practice grounding and awareness of energy, you give yourself more space as a result. When you are moving non stop through your life, you will easily lose your space, and your energy along with it.

Learning the difference between your energy, and the energies you've taken on that aren't yours, is priceless. Once you begin to let go of foreign energy that has been sitting in your space, you will lighten your load, heal your body and spirit, let go of pain, free yourself up to create what it is you do want. Once you become conscious of what you've agreed to let yourself have or take on, you can decide to change the rules you live by, in order to make it easier for you to be you.

Grounding yourself, replenishing with your own energy, finding neutrality within, letting go of energies you've taken on that aren't yours, knowing where your own energy is and defining your boundaries, moving the blocks out of your way, and effortlessly manifesting – are all things you can learn to do easily. These tools and techniques – and more – are taught in the Psychic Meditation Class, which you can learn more about here. There is a class beginning this Saturday, May 28, as a teleseminar. You can join this class through the second week, June 4. Future classes are being planned, and if you're interested in learning about them, please let me know.

Back to meditation and being psychic. Once you become more conscious of energy, and in particular your own energy, it becomes easier for you to safely turn on and have access to your own psychic abilities. Everything begins with grounding and being safe, including having your own abilities working for you. It's difficult to open up to those sensitive levels of being psychic if you're afraid you'll take on energy that might hurt you. Learn to ground, define, and protect your space first, and the rest will easily follow.

I welcome your questions and comments, and will do my best to answer your questions about the information in this article.

What can a daily meditation habit do for you?
Aug 9

Posted by Kris Cahill

If you are looking for one good habit to add to your life, try meditating regularly. You'll benefit in more ways than you might imagine you can from such a simple practice.
A grounded meditation practice will help you to know who you are and where you're at. If you've been running and running, and expect to continue doing so every day, meanwhile fueling yourself on caffeine, stress, guilt, worry, or some other toxic energy, your body and health will suffer. You will lose your precious energy by treating yourself this way. It can be much harder for you to create what it is you want if you don't have enough energy or space to do so.

You can try something different today. Or tomorrow, or anytime. There is never a bad time to begin to meditate, and every time you do it helps you to do it again. If you practice grounding as part of your meditation, you have a way to release all of those toxic energies you've been taking on.

If you think you're already too busy and don't have the time to begin doing this, if you just can't see adding one more thing to your list, consider this. The time you spend meditating will pay off in big ways, and in parts of your life you may not even imagine it doing so.

Meditation can help you to do the following: gain perspective, calm down, sleep better, let go, hear yourself, value your body, have more energy, heal yourself, think more clearly, create your new creations, manifest, let go of pain, enjoy being in the moment, be able to be present, hear music clearly, have more fun.

It also helps you to: come back to your senses, know yourself, give yourself permission to stop constantly doing, trust yourself, feel your feelings, know your own thoughts, ground yourself, communicate with the earth, become aware of your body, find peace within, relax, know what's truly important to you. You may not be aware of the vast riches to be found within yourself, until you begin looking for them.

Meditation is not perfect, doesn't need to be practiced perfectly, and you don't need to be perfect to practice it. All you need to do is begin. Do it on your own, find a teacher, listen to a cd, create your own practice. There is no one right way to meditate. The trick is just to start.

The Mirroring World
We Are like Nature

As humans our lives are completely intertwined with the cycles and rhythms of nature.

Nature is a mirror, inspiring and teaching us, deepening our sense of belonging in the world. Wherever you look, you can see that our patterns and the patterns of the natural world are the same. You can find this resonance in every form, from molecules to plants and animals and to planets. We live our lives according to the same principles as the trees, the mountains, the clouds, and the birds.

We begin our lives in the womb, folded in on ourselves like the bud of a flower. We can see our whole lives in the mirror of this natural form. When we emerge from the womb, we slowly begin our unfolding, just as the flower begins to open its petals. At its prime, the flower draws many insects to it and also the eyes of appreciative humans. When the flower’s petals begin to fade and its life cycle comes to an end, it ceases to hold itself upright and returns to the earth. Traditionally, we return to the earth, just as all plants and animals do. Like flowers, we leave behind seeds in the forms of children and other gifts only we could have given. They continue to unfold even after we are gone. Rebirth is encoded into our lives, and death is just one part of the cycle.

Look around you, and you will find connection and insight. Notice how your moods shift from one to another like the sky shifts from bright blue to turbulent grays. Your thoughts are like clouds, appearing, changing shape, passing through, and then disappearing without a trace. The rain cleanses the sky, just as an emotional release cleanses your mind. The sky itself is your eternal awareness, unchanging underneath all these permutations. Let it reflect back to you your own abiding perfection.

As you walk through the world, find your own metaphors for connectedness in nature. Flesh them out fully and follow them as they lead you through the mystery and intelligence of life.

Use baking soda to solve personal care problems

Use baking soda to solve personal care problems frugally
This is what started it all: Using baking soda as a personal deodorant. Here are several methods sent in by you readers:

Mix a cup of baking soda and 2 T. of cornstarch in a container with a short-handled blush brush. After your shower, brush on your deodorant. Since you're still a little moist, it doesn't have a problem sticking.
Another reader says: I recently discovered using baking soda as a deodorant works better than anything. I sprinkle a little bit on. I don't mix anything.
And another reader wrote with this recipe:
1/4 cup baking soda (for odor)
1/4 cup baby powder (for pleasant scent)
1/16 cup corn starch ( for dryness)
Mix and put in old baby powder container to sprinkle on.
And another method: Make cream deodorant by mixing 2 tablespoons baking soda, 2 tablespoons of petroleum jelly and 2 tablespoons talcum or baby powder.

Heat in double boiler or over very low heat, stirring constantly until it becomes smooth and creamy. Store in a container with tight lid.
And another another idea about using it as a deodorant: Mix equal parts baking soda and cornstarch, then add water until it can be poured into a mold. After it dries I have a ball of deodorant that I moisten and apply. Baking soda is caustic and if you apply it to raw or tender skin (i.e. after shaving your armpits) it will burn.
Onward to more personal care uses:

Toothpaste - as a mildly abrasive tooth cleaner and mouthwash in one. Dentist approved.
Use instead of powder in your shoes to absorb moisture and odors.
Sprinkle small amount of baking soda onto palm, add a little water, and wash face. Leaves the skin feeling as though you had used a moisturizer.
I've always had a hard time getting a close shave. I've found that using a bit of baking soda mixed with water and scrubbing my face immediately before shaving helps remove oil from whiskers, making it easier for the razor to grab them. It also works well to leave the soda on the face and apply shaving cream on top (although if you take your time shaving, it may start to sting before you finish).
Use in bath water to relieve irritated skin.
Add it to your toothpaste so it won't taste bad. Put the toothpaste on your brush then sprinkle baking soda on top.
Add a little baking soda to your facial cleanser instead of using facial scrubs. The little grains are round and tiny, so are very gentle.
Mix shampoo with a small amount of baking soda. Shampooing with this mixture removes old and heavy hair spray and residue. From another reader: If you mix baking soda and shampoo in your hand once a week it will not only remove all hair spray, styling gels, and other products, it will remove impurities from the water and lighten your hair. I learned this from my hair stylist!
My teenage son uses waxes in his hair for the right look. The only thing that will get it out is baking soda mixed with water and used as a shampoo.
Mix with oatmeal in your blender. It makes a marvelous facial scrub.
Mix it with hair conditioner in your hand and condition the ends of your hair it will give your hair more volume, body and health.
Use it on your hair if it's oily and you don't have time to wash it. Sprinkle a little on your hair, comb it through and do a quick blow-dry and it works perfectly! Great if you're in a hurry.
If your hair turns green from clorine in swimming pools, shampoo as usual but add 1/4 cup baking soda to your shampoo.
Takes permanent marker off of sneaky 2 year olds skin... and fridge... and washer... and dryer... and dishwasher... and floor... and...
It works great for feminine odor problems. Just sprinkle a bit on a panty liner and wear as usual.
Use it with your bath soap as an all over body scrub. Just a little sprinkled on a wash cloth will do it. It will make your skin feel soft and smooth and it's easy on drains and on the earth's water supply, too.
Denture cleaner: enough hydrogen peroxide to cover, 1 tsp baking soda. Soak overnight. Gets rid of bad odors, too!
I learned this from a make-up artist when I suffered from acne. For boils and large pimples make a paste out of baking soda and water. Pack it on the infected spot and it works to draw the infection.

Feel better with baking soda
Baking soda has many ways of making us feel better. Soothing, cleansing and relief are words that describe it very well.
Soothe bee stings and other insect bites with a paste of baking soda and vinegar.
Anti-acid - mix 1/2 teaspoon in 4 ounces of water and drink. It will cause you to "burp," as it neutralizes stomach acid.
Put sunburned kids in a cool (not cold) baking soda bath for half an hour. Also works for chicken pox and mosquito bites.
Relieve itch from poison ivy by making a paste with water, spreading it on the affected area and letting it dry.
It's said that if you put a small amount of baking soda in glass of water and drink it, it will clean out your kidneys. (Note: Be aware that if your diet is salt restricted, you should not use baking soda for any internal reason, other than normal cooking.)
My optometrist told me to gently rub my soft contact lenses with a cream made with baking soda and water.

I do this every other month. It "sweetens" them, removing the impurities.
From another reader: When my son was a baby he got heat rash on his face. My doctor told me to sprinkle baking soda on his sheets and it would keep him from lying in his drool - worked!
From the same reader: The doctor also told me it was better than baby powder to use on babies - keeps them drier and cuts sour smells from burps.
My two year old ran through a huge fire ant nest, and ants covered her feet. Both feet turned bright red, I grabbed a bowl of water and box of soda, we soaked her feet in it and you couldn't tell she had ever been stung.
Apply that and water paste to jellyfish or sea nettle stings to remove the burn.
I mix a teaspoon of baking soda and a teaspoon of epsom salt in a glass of water to akalinize my entire body and clean my blood stream.
To relieve an upset stomache put a pinch of baking soda and a pinch of salt into a cup of mint tea. It's not the best tasting thing in the world but it will ease and relieve an upset stomache.
When I get a minor burn from ironing or while baking, I take baking soda and water and make a thick paste to apply to the burn; leave on until it dries. It takes the pain away.
Another excellent use for baking soda is for mouth ulcers and cold sores. Simply mix a teaspoon of baking soda with 100mls of water and use as a gargle. For cold sores use the same solution. Dab directly onto the cold sore using a cotton bud. Do this at least twice a day.
I use baking soda to remove splinters. Make a paste of baking soda and water, and place the paste on a plastic bandage Apply the bandage to the splinter and leave for a full day. When you remove the bandage, the splinter will be sticking above the skin and can be pulled out easily. I once got a shard of glass in my toe that was so deeply imbedded that I couldn't even see it. It took three days and three changes of the baking soda bandage, but it came out. I was amazed to see that the shard was about 1 cm long!

Use baking soda from your skin to your teeth to your hair and feet.
Baking soda will freshen your mouth as well as clean your teeth - and it will kill any fungus (like thrush) that attacks your mouth. That by itself should earn a prominent place in your medicine cabinet. When you couple that with its low cost and all the other things you can use it for... well, that makes baking soda a very valuable product to keep around.
Besides oral care, baking soda does wonders for your skin. Used with or without soap for a gentle facial scrub, baking soda can't be beat. But if you're the gender that shaves instead of exfoliates, use it anyway. It will remove any remaining skin oil on your beard and make it easier to shave. It also leaves your skin baby soft.

More on the skin scoop: If you have trouble with itchy skin, a soak in a baking soda bath will take care of that.

Mix a half cup of baking soda into a full tub of warm water and relax in it. Itches and rashes will fade away in this bath, but if you have a localized and/or more extreme itch, make a paste of baking soda and water and apply. Cover it to keep it from drying out and reapply as needed.

Use baking soda as a smoother for feet, elbows and knees, too. Make a paste of it with water and massage the affected areas. Rinse well and apply lotion. A few treatments will really make a difference.

Treat an itchy scalp with a couple of teaspoons of baking soda mixed in a cup of warm water. Wet your hair and pour the baking soda solution over your head, massaging in well. Leave it on a couple of minutes or longer for the best effect, then rinse off in lukewarm water.

Hair that's dull and feels harsh due to hair sprays, shampoos and gels needs to be deep cleaned with something other than your regular shampoo. You can buy clarifying shampoo that removes the residue of your regular shampoo, but you can get the same result by washing with baking soda. Put about a quarter cup of baking soda in two cups of warm water, wet your hair and scalp and gently work in the baking soda mixture, starting at the ends of your hair. When you're through, rinse thoroughly and style as usual.

Pimples, acne and other skin eruptions usually respond well to a paste of baking soda and water. Pack it on, cover it to keep it from drying out and reapply as often as you can. (You'll only want to use this at bedtime or when you're alone!)

And don't forget to stock your medicine cabinet! You may use it to clean your shoes or build a volcano or ease a heartburn, but you'll really appreciate the properties of baking soda when you make it your personal health and beauty aid!

This is the feast day of St. Michael and all the Angels. It is the most ancient of all the angel festivals. It is re-deployed to overwrite other pagan celebrations around the autumn equinox.

From fairly early on, Michaelmas was an important holiday, the religious or Christian equivalent of the autumn equinox. In England, it was considered the start of a new quarter. It marked the start of a new business year, a time for electing officials, making contracts, paying rent, hiring servants, holding court and starting school. Obviously we still see the remnants of this in the timing of our elections and school year.

Equivalent figures  celebrated on the same day are the Celtic Gwynn ap Nudd, lord of the underworld and the faerie kingdom, whose sacred mountain is Glastonbury Tor, and the Norse Heimdall orderer of society, watcher of the gods, and captain of 432,000 Einheriar, the chose warriors who defend Valhalia. Goddess of The Day: Niskai Quarter Days (England/Scotland)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Sat Aug 27, 2011 8:30 pm (PDT)

Goddess of The Day: Niskai
Quarter Days (England/Scotland)

Themes: Cycles; Time; Luck; Home; Success
Symbols:  A Quarter; Calendars; Water

About Niskai:  This Western European Water Goddess has a threefold nature,
exemplifying the full movement of time's wheel from birth and maturity
to death and rebirth.  She instills in us a respect for each season and
the ability to use time wisely so that all our goddess-centered efforts
will be more successful.

To Do Today:  Throughout England, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland, Quarter Days mark the four quarters of the year.  It is traditionally a time to pay one's
bills in Niskai's timely fashion so that prosperity stays with you.
Also, this is a very propitious time to move into a new residence; it
brings luck!

To keep Niskai's
promptness with you and augment your awareness of the cycles in your
life, try this spell.  Begin with a quarter (which is round,
representing the Wheel of Time).  Place the token in moonlight for three hours and sunlight for three hours to charge it.  Then bless it,
saying,

To everything, there is a season;
to every moment, a reason.
For Niskai's timeliness I pray,
every hour of every day.

Carry this in your wallet or purse.  If, for some reason, you start running late, touch the quarter
and recite the incantation again.  Then use the quarter to call folks so they don't worry!  )0(

Balance of Light and Shadow Spell

Balance of Light and Shadow Spell

One of the main
concepts in witchcraft is that of the duality of the universe. Nothing
is purely good or purely bad. All aspects reflect the duality of nature. People bear these aspects of duality. We have the “light” traits
(kindness, intellect, generosity) that we readily acknowledge and
present to others. We also have our “dark” side as well. These are the
traits (such as jealousy, anger, and greed) that we hold from public
view and many times neglect to acknowledge. Again, nothing is purely
good or bad. With that in mind, we can think of our dark traits as a
power that balances our lives and promote positive change. Jealousy can
be a motivator to strive for better. Anger can be the motivator to
change or prevent bad situations. Light a black and a white candle, and
say:

Goddess of darkness, Goddess of light,
Balance of duality I accept as my right.

Focus on your traits, both in the light and dark realms. Focus on the positive messages that both have for you.

Sandalwood and Frankincense help to relax by calming the mind. Excessive mental strain, for example:
studying for an exam, can be eased by diffusing Frankincense perhaps with Bergamot
to relax the nerves and uplift the spirit. Both Sandalwood and Frankincense blend well with the cirus oils.

Sumerian Songs of Inanna

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Sat Aug 27, 2011 8:33 pm (PDT)

High one, Inanna, queen of heaven,
you roar like a dragon, like thunder,
in the place of death and hunger.
You race like a flood down the mountain,
into the dim underworld where no one
worships you and grain mildews away.
But you are the victor. You vanquish death.
You are the one with the fiercest eyes.
You are the one about whom beauty settles.
~Sumerian Songs of Inanna

Once the Goddess Inanna had descended to the underworld of her sister Ereichkigel, she paradoxically did not lose power. Rather, her time in the underworld strengthened her. Our own challenges can do the
same for us: we can emerge stronger when we have been tested by adversity and trial.

One of the great tests pain imposes on us is whether we will become closed and hard or whether we will grow more sympathetic and open. Buddhist philosophy claims the reason that the pain is to "open the heart of compassion." once we have suffered, we can feel with hose who suffer. Once we have endured loss, we understand those who are afflicted in that way. Our strength grows not from our ability to ignore pain, but from withstanding it and emerging able to witness the pain others still endure.

Subject: An Important Message from Robert Alvarez, the Psychic Witch about Weather Concerns, Prosperity and Divine Love: Friday, August 26, 2011...

As some of you know, yesterday, Thursday, August 25, 2011, 7-10PM I led a Prosperity and Abundance Event for Abundant Finances at TRS in Midtown Manhattan.  Usually, after a Prosperity Event I AM physically and emotionally energized.  However, last night I felt both physically and emotionally drained.  I knew that the fears and worries about certain weather conditions had taken a toll on me, and it has taken a toll on others, to the point that the Prosperity Event that I was going to lead at Seasonal Health in Hoboken, New Jersey on Sunday, August 28, 2011, 1-4PM has needed to be postponed.

However, as a Spiritual Being having a human experience, I also realized that I simply could not get upset and concerned about these weather conditions.  And today, I realized that it has a lot to do with my Divine Faith in the Innumerable Goddesses and Angels that Are a constant part of my day and my world.  It has to do with that fact that I use Affirmations, Blessings, Decrees, Prayers and Treatments every day.  And it also has to do with the fact that, in my forty-one years of life as Robert Alvarez, some very bad things have happened to me...

A.  When I was eleven a kid of about fifteen, who was taller and bigger than I was tried to rape me;

B.  When I was in my early twenties a man held a knife to my throat while I was in the street;

C.  When I was in my early thirties I attended a cultural event, and less than fifteen minutes after it ended a man pulled out a gun and began pointing it at various other attendees;

There is more, but the fact of the matter is that I AM alive, I AM loved, and I AM an Empowered, Wild and Free Afro-Cuban Gay Man.

I AM aware of the fact that there are many Witches, Pagans and Wiccans--both in New York and New Jersey--that are engaging in Weather Magick.  Earlier today, when I was at Stick, Stone & Bone I overheard two people talking about the Meditation/Visualization they are going to conduct tonight to either lessen or eliminate the storm's impact.  And I AM most aware that there are several people that I honor greatly, both Witches and non-Witches that are saying A LOT of Prayers and consecrating Candles for Protection and Peace.

As for me, I have been Blessing everything and everyone with Divine Love.  Not surprisingly, today I have had a very Prosperous, Loving, Healing, Loving Day, filled with great food, great friends, great places and great Energy.  It seemed as though every where I went today on this Friday, Sacred Day of Venus/Freyja/Oshun either someone had a gift for me, or gave me food or treated me to lunch or something else.

For you, whether or not you have ever participated in any one of my Prosperity Classes, whether or not you ever do, or whether or not you ever avail yourself of my Psychic Services, I wholeheartedly invite you to be a part of the Sacred Solution.  Every single time you begin to worry, or fear, or experience anxiety or poverty propaganda, Divinely and Lovingly Decree:

"DIVINE LOVE PROSPERS ME NOW.  DIVINE LOVE HEALS ME NOW.  DIVINE LOVE PROTECTS ME NOW."

If you are Decreeing it for someone else, Divinely and Lovingly Decree:

"DIVINE LOVE PROSPERS YOU NOW.  DIVINE LOVE HEALS YOU NOW.  DIVINE LOVE PROTECTS ME NOW."

And, for a object or an obstacle (weather or otherwise), Divinely and Lovingly Decree:

"DIVINE LOVE PROSPERS.  DIVINE LOVE HEALS.  DIVINE LOVE PROTECTS, NOW AND FOREVERMORE."

I shall keep all of you posted on my updated Metaphysical Class schedule at Seasonal Health in Hoboken, New Jersey.  In the meantime, may all Celestial Beings Lovingly and Lavishly Re-Mind you that Divine Love is an essential part of your Divine Heritage and Spiritual Birthright and may you continue to create and maintain Heaven on Earth.
