Consualia - The summer Consualia of Consus. He's the god of good counsel, secret deliberation, stored (conserved harvests) of the grain and the underworld. The altar of Consus was buried underground in Rome, since he ruled the subterranean world (where grain was
stored — see Portunalia, August 17). The altar was uncovered twice a year, once in August for the harvest, and again on December 19th, and the high priest of the god Quirinus made a sacrifice. This was also a holiday for horses and other beasts of burden who did not have to work today. Instead they were decorated with flowers and raced in the Circus Maximus.

Today's Goddess:  Astraea Virgo Begins (Various Locations)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Today's Goddess:  Astraea
Virgo Begins (Various Locations)

Themes: Excellence; Learning; Purity; Justice; Knowledge; Reason; Innocence
Symbols: Stars

About Astraea:  This Greek Goddess motivates fairness and virtue within us.
She empowers our ability to "fight the good fight" in both word and deed, especially
when we feel inadequate to the task.  According to lore, she left earth during the
Golden Age because of man's inhumanity to man.  She became the constellation Virgo.

To Do Today: In astrology, people born under this sign, like Astraea, strive
endlessly for perfection within and without, sometimes naively overlooking the
big picture because of their focus on detail.  Astraea reestablishes that necessary
perspective by showing us how to think more globally.  To encourage this ability,
draw a star on a piece of paper and put it in your shoe so that your quest for
excellence is always balanced with moderation and sound pacing.

To meditate on this Goddess's virtues and begin releasing them within, try using
a bowl (or bath) full of soapsuds sprinkled with glitter (this looks like floating stars)
as a focus.  Light a candle nearby and watch the small points of light as they dance;
each one represents a bit of magical energy and an aspect of Astraea.  Tell the
Goddess your needs and your dreams, then float in her starry waters until you
feel renewed and cleansed.

Protection from Road Rage

Protection from Road Rage

Road rage seems ever more common on our highways and roadways today. To
protect yourself from an outbreak of road rage—either from another, or
in yourself—prepare (or purchase) a small, white drawstring pouch. Place hematite, bloodstone, and crushed rue in a small bowl. Extend your
hands over the bowl and form a triangle with your thumbs and
fore-fingers. Visualize a protective beam of energy descending into your crown. Focus this beam through the triangle to the bowl, and say:

Let the rage of others
and the rage of my own,
Become harmlessly grounded by herb and by stone.

Empty the contents of the bowl into the pouch, and place them in your car.

Daily Aromatherapy Tip       To rejuvenate and fluff up feather pill

Daily Aromatherapy Tip

To rejuvenate and fluff up feather pillows, place them one at a time in the dryer
on a warm setting for 10 minutes with two clean tennis balls.

For a pleasant scent, sprinkle three drops of an essential oil, like
orange or rose onto a cotton ball, tie it into a handkerchief, and add
it to the dryer along with the pillows.  -Laurel Vukovic

Ovid, Fasti

Let the sky wheel past us three full times.
Let the sun rise and set three times.
Let the flutes blow forth, and the bent horns.
Let the festival of the Mother come!
Priests will parade with drums and cymbals,
and we will hear their pulsing as the goddess
is borne joyously through the city streets.
The stage is set, the games are calling!
~Ovid, Fasti

The Romans, who were nothing if not fond of their celebrations, had two harvest
festivals this month. The first, on this day, was called the Consualia and, like
harvest rituals in other lands, it was cause for feasting and laughing and dancing.
Americans tend to celebrate Thanksgiving late in the year, well after the time of plenty
has passed. Yet late summer is a time when gratitude can be easier to find within
ourselves than in the darkening days of late fall. A thanksgiving meal can be as
simple as piece of fruit offered to a friend on a sunny day, or as elaborate as a
multicourse barbecue. However we celebrate the harvest, it is useful to continually
remind ourselves of how much we owe our Mother Earth, and how overwhelmingly
we depend upon her.
