Ritual of the Mists

Ritual Of The Mists

This ritual is intended to be done when there is lots of fog in your
area. This Ritual and prayer is to bring you closer to Manannan Mac
Lyr, Keeper of the Mist, Ruler of Tir na Nog, and keeper of the Well
of Wisdom. Personally when I have done it I have felt strangely drawn
into the mists as if the Ancestors were calling me into them to join
them. Someday I might go ahead and go but as of yet, I haven't. If at
all possible, try to do this ritual in a place with trees and open
land. I have done it outside my home but my home is too connected to
this world. I have done it in a park, and the effects are much
cleaner and crisper there.

Items needed:
Staff Robe Object
Double spiral Object
Bread as a sacrifice to the land spirits

First thing to do is to feel the mists around you. Alert your senses
to it. Remember that the Mists are an in-between area, not sky, not
water. Get your bearings, realize that you are in an in-between
state. At this time you should be wearing your robe.

Becoming aware of the Center of the Three realms. The first thing to do is to become aware of the three realms: Land, Sea, and Sky. Hold
the object with the Triskele firmly in your hand and do the following:

Bend down and touch the ground, and say - "I stand firmly upon the
land." Stand up and hold your arms out to the sides -- "The sea
surrounds me." Bring your arms over your head and finally say - "The
sky spreads itself above me." Bring your hands down over your heart
and say -- "I acknowledge the three realms."

Acknowledging the Mists: Take the staff and pound it on the ground
three times. Take the staff and hold it straight out from your body
(like it is an extension of your arms) and turn around three times
(counter clockwise) as if you were cutting the mists in half.

Bring the staff up and wave it over your head three times. (This
movement is like acknowledging the three realms. Hitting the ground
with the staff contacts it with land, cutting the mists gives it
contact with water, and waving it over your head give is contact with
the air) Next face North (the direction of the four cities, and the
place that the Tuatha de Danaan came from). Take the staff and draw a double spiral in the air, and say the following words:

"Manannan Mac Lyr, Lord of the Mist, Ruler of Tir na Nog, Keeper of the double gate of the otherworld. I am here seeking knowledge of the mists and the otherworlds. I come bringing sacrifices for the land
spirits. I come in complete awareness and in harmony with the three
realms. Watch over me as I travel the mists, keep me from harm as I
travel here in the in between. Grant me, oh Manannan, the gift of
knowledge from the well which is yours to protect, from which the
five rivers flow, into which the nuts of knowledge drop, into which
swim the salmon of knowledge. "

"I acknowledge the shroud of the mists, The mists that protect the
otherworld where the Well of Wisdom lies. The Well of
Wisdom that contains all knowledge, which is the key to our lives-- our
lives that are in service to the Gods, the Gods that live in the
otherworld. The otherworld that is protected by the mists. I
acknowledge the shroud of the mists."

Take the sacrifice, break it into several parts and then put them on
the ground as a sacrifice to the land spirits. At this point the
formal part of the ritual is over. I will begin walking through out the park or the place I am at and seeking the mists; becoming familiar with how different the land is when the mists come and envelop it. When I am about to leave the place I am at, I then end with a prayer to the Gods and Goddesses "of the Tuatha de Danaan to keep me safe as I travel the mists back to my world.

This letter is from the column "Dear Abby." Dr. Kevorkian is also one of my heroes.

DEAR ABBY: A hero? Mine is a man who saw people living with endless, excruciating pain and helped them to suffer no more. His were courageous acts of love and compassion, performed with the knowledge that there could be a horrendous price to pay. For this, he was labeled a "murderer" and sent to prison, his voice silenced and his work ended. It's Jack Kevorkian. -- HELEN G. IN FLORIDA

The Goddess Speaks

The Goddess Speaks

I am the Great Mother, worshipped by all creation and existent prior to their consciousness. I am the primal female force, boundless and eternal.

I am the chaste Goddess of the Moon, the Lady of all magic. The winds and moving leaves sing My name. I wear the crescent Moon upon My brow and My feet rest among the starry heavens. I am a field untouched by the plow. Rejoice in Me and know the fullness of youth.

I am the blessed Mother, the gracious Lady of the harvest. I am clothed with the deep, cool wonder of the Earth and the gold of the fields heavy with grain. By Me the tides of the Earth are ruled, all things come to fruition according to My season. I am refuge and healing. I am the life-giving Mother, wondrously fertile.

Worship Me as the Crone, tender of the unbroken cycle of death and rebirth. I am the wheel, the shadow of the Moon. I rule the tides of women and men and give release and renewal to weary souls. Though the darkness of death is My domain, the joy of birth is My gift.

I am the Goddess of the Moon, the Earth, the Seas. My names and strengths are manifold. I pour forth magic and power, peace and wisdom. I am the eternal Maiden, Mother of all, and Crone of darkness, and I send you my blessings of limitless love.

Cruise Ships

Cruise Chips
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
About 2 years ago my wife and I were on a cruise through the western
Mediterranean aboard a Princess ship. At dinner we noticed an elderly
lady sitting alone along the rail of the grand stairway in the main
dining room. I also noticed that all the staff, ships officers,
waiters, busboys, etc., all seemed very familiar with this lady. I
asked our waiter who the lady was, expecting to be told she owned the
line, but he said he only knew that she had been on board for the last
four cruises, back to back.
As we left the dining room one evening I caught her eye and stopped to
say hello. We chatted and I said, "I understand you've been on this
ship for the last four cruises." She replied, "Yes, that's true." I
stated, "I don't understand" and she replied, without a pause, "It's
cheaper than a nursing home."
So, there will be no nursing home in my future. When I get old and
feeble, I am going to get on a Princess Cruise Ship. The average cost
for a nursing home is $200 per day. I have checked on reservations at
Princess and I can get a long term discount and senior discount price of
$135 per day. That leaves $65 a day for:
1. Gratuities which will only be $10 per day.
2. I will have as many as 10 meals a day if I can waddle to the
restaurant, or I can have room service (which means I can have breakfast
in bed every day of the week).
3. Princess has as many as three swimming pools, a workout room,
free washers and dryers, and shows every night.
4. They have free toothpaste and razors, and free soap and shampoo.
5. They will even treat you like a customer, not a patient. An extra
$5 worth of tips will have the entire staff scrambling to help you.
6. I will get to meet new people every 7 or 14 days.
7. T.V. broken? Light bulb need changing? Need to have the mattress
replaced? No Problem! They will fix everything and apologize for your
inconvenience.
8. Clean sheets and towels every day, and you don't even have to ask
for them.
9. If you fall in the nursing home and break a hip you are on
Medicare; if you fall and break a hip on the Princess ship they will
upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.
Now hold on for the best! Do you want to see South America, the Panama
Canal, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, or name where you want to
go? Princess will have a ship ready to go. So don't look for me in a
nursing home, just call shore to ship.
P.S. And don't forget, when you die, they just dump you over the side
at no charge.
The Seeker's Bill of Rights
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99
The Seeker's Bill of Rights
Seekers on the Pagan path are in an extremely vulnerable position. In their quest for following and teaching, they risk encountering those who use our faith to prey on others. To empower the Seekers of our community, a Seeker's Bill of Rights has been drafted. This tool will help to alert Seekers of a problem if a group or teacher violates any of the ten rights described.
It will also serve to remind Seekers that while they do not have "degrees", they are still human beings with rights and dignity.
I - The Right to Verify Credentials: Seekers shall not be obstructed from substantiating claims made by a teacher or group. In the case of Elders that were inspired to create a new tradition, the Seeker has the right to know the circumstances surrounding the inception of that tradition.
II - The Right to Anonymity: Seekers have the right to keep their involvement in the occult a secret to preserve their personal & professional lives.
III - The Right to Financial Stability: Seekers shall not be required or coerced into taking on any financial burdens on behalf of a teacher or group.
IV - The Right to Compensation for Professional Goods and Services: Seekers have the right to be paid for goods produced and/or skilled labor for which they would normally received an income. Seekers shall not be required or coerced into providing discounts or 'freebies' on behalf of a teacher or group.
V - The Right to Sexual Freedom: Seekers shall not be required or coerced into sexual relations with unwanted persons, nor shall Seekers be restricted from sexual relations with consenting adults.
VI - The Right to Physical Well-Being: Seekers shall not be required or coerced into submitting to any form of physical injury or abuse.
VII - The Right to Abide by the Law: Seekers shall not be required or coerced into committing any illegal act.
VIII - The Right to Consistency: Seekers have the right to expect consistency in policies by a teacher or group. Seekers should be formally informed in a timely manner of any policy change.
IX - The Right to Separation with Impunity: Seekers have the right to discontinue association with any teacher or group without fear of harassment or reprisal.
X The Right to be at Peace with One's Conscience: Seekers shall not be required or coerced into committing any action contrary to their own sense of ethics or morality.
The Seeker's Bill of Rights was compiled from experiences other Seekers have suffered at the hands of abusive teachers. Hopefully, this tool will help Seekers everywhere to avoid these pitfalls.
Mystical Archetypes of the Past
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99
Thu Sep 1, 2011 8:58 pm (PDT)
Mystical Archetypes of the Past
In ancient times, when the world was a simpler and more brutal place, people knew their paths in life. If born a peasant, a person would live and die on the family plot of land, never venturing farther than a few miles from home. A king was born to rule, a fisherman to fish, a woman to bear children, and a monk to pray.
However, when following a spiritual path, there were several options from which to choose. the four spiritual professions that were most common and most relevant to the present are: priest/priestess, healer, warrior, and mystic. In today's hectic, multi-tasking world, these professions have become archetypes for specific ways of thinking.
they represent attitudes, ideals, and thoughts that are hidden from our everyday lives. They are part of the mystical universe and, as Jung would say, the collective unconscious. They are the essence of our dreams, myths, and fairy tales; they are the center of our hopes and dreams.
Knowing what ancient profession to which you are most connected will help you grasp the innate skills inside you, bringing them into the light of day to help you venture further on your journey of self-discovery.
bringing them into the light of day to help you venture further on your journey of self-discovery.
Priest/Priestess
Priests or priestesses in ancient times held positions of power. They were leaders of the tribe or clan and often held a position equal to the ruling chieftain, king, or queen. they were very much at the forefront of all decisions, whether they agreed or disagreed with the governing body.
Due to their positions of power, priests and priestesses were not rebels, preferring to work within existing governmental and spiritual structures. that they did not choose to make drastic changes. Priests and priestesses were learned and scholarly. they often had to study for many years in order to gain the knowledge necessary to achieve their position of power.
Priests and priestesses were concerned with groups of people. As they were responsible for the welfare of entire tribes,clans, cities, or towns, they wee forced to look at the bit picture. Unfortunately, this means that individual needs were not often considered when making decisions for the good of all. responsibility was a major trait belonging to the priest or priestess. As with all leadership roles, this path can be lonely but filled with satisfaction, as plans put in motion come to fruition.
In today's world, priests or priestesses are goal-oriented individuals. They are rarely seen without a list or a plan of action. Priests or priestesses are strong-willed and know exactly what they want out of any specific situation and out of life. they are great organizers and talented, compassionate leaders. Feeling more comfortable in group situations, priests and priestesses love working with others, as long as their ideas are listened to with due attention. As they possess natural leadership qualities, usually their ideas are put into motion. Since they exude confidence, priests and priestesses will often attract less secure individuals, who are drawn to their charisma, charm, and grounded nature. Some jobs that priests or priestesses might hold are: managers, college professors,politicians, school superintendents, principals, sales people, or entrepreneurs.
Healers
Healers in the ancient past were considered important assets to the community. They had knowledge of herbs, medicinal chants, teas, and potions. They understood the relationship between the physical, emotional, and mental bodies, and practiced the doctrine of the four humors, which could be regulated with food and drink.
Healers were called to attend births and deaths, to set the bones of the young, and to ease the suffering of the old. They treated general malaise (what we now call depression), cuts, gashes, broken bones, internal pain, gas, and even issues related to conception and contraception. In short, the healers cared for everyone and worked hard to create a healthy atmosphere.
Healers worked with people on an individual basis, learning from past experiences but seeing each patient as a separate entity. Although they were considered important, they were not called upon to give their opinion on government matters. Healers focused on the humanity in people, helping others to live healthier, more fulfilling lives. Compassion was a major trait belonging to the healer. As with all caring roles, this path can be draining--as the healer is constantly giving to others. However, it is also a very satisfying path, as the healer sees all the good he or she accomplishes.
In today's world, healers are very caring individuals. They listen sympathetically to the woes of others without passing judgment or offering unsolicited advice. They work to make others feel better, either physically or emotionally, never asking for anything in return. Healers can be shy, preferring one-on-one conversations to large public speaking engagements. They will often state that they feel more relaxed around animals or plants than humans.
Healers long for the simple life and exude a quiet confidence and serenity that often attracts less stable individuals. This can lead to the "stray dog" syndrome, where healers take in and nurture those who heed help of some kind. Some jobs for healers include: therapists, elementary school teachers, doctors, nurses, floral shop and garden store owners or employees.
Warrior
In ancient society, there was no more valuable person than the warrior. warriors protected the community from outside attack and expanded the lands of the chieftain, king, or queen. Clad in leather tunics, swinging metal swords or axes, the warriors kept the community secure and safe.
Although not adept at book knowledge, warriors trained for years with skilled masters in order to hone their craft. they learned the intricacies of each weapon--sword, axe, bow, spear--and usually chose one that they preferred. (Some warriors would say that the weapon actually chose them.) They trained their muscles to perform, but they also trained their minds. Good warriors needed to be able to think on their feet, react quickly, and formulate plans within seconds. Mind and body reacting as one was the ultimate goal of each warrior.
It could take years for the warrior to teach his mind to relax and allow instinct to kick in. Thus, the warriors moved as one, not thinking but doing in long arcs of agile and swift, fierce and strong movements. Loyalty was a major trait belonging to a warrior. As with all those who pledge their allegiance to another, there is the possibility of trusting there wrong person. Warriors do not usually waver from a selected path, so it is imperative that they know their loyalty is well-founded.
In today's world, warriors are doers not thinkers. They are not interested in discussing the philosophical ramifications of anything. hen others bog down in details and particulars, the warriors rise up with the question, "Are we going to do this or not?" Without the warriors, the world would move much more slowly, and projects would take much more time to get done.
Warriors are not only concerned with moving for war, they also seek out and search for the weak and unprotected in order to afford them security and safety. Despite their gruff demeanor, warriors are every bit as caring as healers; they just enjoy a good fight every once in a while. Barroom brawls, arguments with loved ones, and on-field football fights are part of the warrior's existence, especially when young. (Age tends to mellow even the most ferocious warrior.)
Our world would not be the same without the existence of the brave warrior, firing us up and getting us moving. Some jobs that warriors might hold are: construction workers, police or military officers, professional or amateur athletes, bartenders, and bouncers.
Mystic
Mystics in the ancient world were shrouded in mystery. they were looked upon with skepticism and awe by the other members of the community. Here was a person who saw the future and talked to the dead. Mystics often lived apart from the rest of the community, as not many people felt comfortable around them.
Mystics tapped into great power, thus commanding respect and awe. Chieftains and kings would consult the mystic on affairs of state, on the success of an invasion, on the outlook for next season's crops. Without the mystic, a chieftain's direct link to the divine was severed and he or she would not know the best way to appease or approach a god or goddess.
The mystic was forced to see the world on both an individualistic and a holistic level, understanding the connection between the actions of individuals and the structure of the cosmos. Weavers of fate and manipulators of fortune, mystics tapped into the universal force of the godhood, of the earth and sky, and of the elements--and they translated these for humanity. Illusion was a major trait belonging to the mystic. As with all metaphysical roles, this path can be lonely as the mystic's powers are misunderstood and feared. However, it is also a very satisfying path as the mystic is allowed access to the secrets of the universe.
In today's world, mystics often quietly go about their own business, never sharing their skills or gifts with strangers. The person in the cubicle next to you could be a mystic--you never know. Mystics tend to enjoy time by themselves communing with nature. Unlike the healer, a mystic prefers the wildness of nature rather than the order of a garden. Woods and forests are sanctuaries for the mystic, as are ocean shorelines and mountain tops. Mystics will gravitate to "between-time places," where opposites meet, order meets chaos, civilization meets wilderness, and earth meets sky.
Elementals, fairies, and spirits of the dead will often be attracted to the energy of the mystic. Mystics tend to keep to themselves and do not share their ideas freely. When drawn into conversation, their comments are insightful, as they have the ability to look at a situation from many different viewpoints. Unlike the priest or priestess, the mystic does not have a stake in any organizational structure. Therefore, the mystic tends to support new ideas and new ways of doing things, while cherishing the ways of times past. Some jobs that mystics might hold are: philosophers, scientists, owners of New Age shops. Tarot card readers, park rangers, preservationists, and museum curators.
Every One of Us
Every one of us has a little bit of each archetype inside us. It is human nature, however, to display the qualities and characteristics of one archetype more than another. Remember, no archetype is better than any other. All played a necessary and vital role in the society of the ancient world.
Now that you know which archetype you strongly relate to, you can take that information and use it in expanding and deepening your spirituality. Knowledge of self is key in spiritual work. Perhaps, after taking the quiz and finding your mystical archetype, you are thinking that your archetype doesn't appear to relate to your life path. Wait and see. As your path unfolds before you, you may be surprised bythe changes in yourself and in your outlook. The gods and goddesses work quietly in our lives, subtly changing our thoughts and dreams, our goals and desires.
Your journey through the mystical arts is a lifelong endeavor that you can enjoy and savor for as long (or as little) as you would like. Revel in the present and look forward to what lies ahead.
