MM Mari,A lot of decks out there are based on the Rider Waite deck, and therefore have very similar meanings. Most of the generic tarot books use the Rider Waite deck as a base, or one close to it. I've never thumbed through a Thoth deck, but my understanding is that it is not based on the RW deck and has its own symbology (more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoth_tarot_deck) In addition, there are artists who have created their own decks based on neither system. How you choose to read them is up to you. Some readers (like myself) prefer to learn the traditional meanings assigned to a system (Rider Waite for me) and tap into that energy when doing readings. Others prefer to let the artist's interpretation of the images speak to them directly and flow into the reading regardless of a systems's traditional meaning assigned to the card. Both are legitimate methods... whatever seems to work best for you!

~snip~
I was wondering does every deck out there have different meanings for their cards? Is there one set of Universal meaning for Tarot cards that one can learn to use on any deck? How many decks do some of you have? How do you read them?
thank you all for your time Blessed Be

True Tarot decks have universal meanings for the cards, particularly
the Major Arcana. The Make Arcana cards symbolize an archetypal
journey that each person in every culture undertakes. The Minor Arcana
are the details. The pictures on the cards usually give a good idea on
the card's meaning. The number of the card signifies the state of
completion. I have always used this method to read the cards.

Thank you all for the great responses and views. I have actually started reading the book of thoth to learn more about what Crowley wanted the cars to express. And over time I have learned what the art on the cards means and how it ties in with the meaning which has improved my readings alot and has also made me more comfortable using them.

Blessed Be

Here's a few. These came out of my personal BoS and I have used them
all at one point or another. See what works for you.

Bottle Spell

Used to neutralize the power of those who intend to do you physical
harm, or hurt your reputation, or in any way pose a threat to your
security.

You Will need:

* 4 tbsps Frankincense or Myrrh
* 4 tbsps Black powdered Iron
* 4 tbsps Sea Salt
* 4 tbsps Orris-root Powder (or oak moss)
* 1 white candle
* 1 bottle with a cork or lid
* Mortar and pestle
* Parchment Paper
* Black Ink or black ballpointpen
* Black thread

Mix the sea salt, orris-root powder, and the iron in a bowl. Then cut
a piece of parchment to fit inside your bottle and write on it with
black ink:

"I neutralize the power of (name of adversary) to do me any harm. I
ask that this be correct and for the good of all. So mote it be!"

Roll up the parchment, tie it with a black thread to bind it, and
place it in the bottle. Fill the bottle with the dry ingredients. Then
take the white candle and while turning the bottle counterclockwise,
drip the wax over the cork to seal it. Last, secretly bury the bottle
in a place where it will not be disturbed and no animals or people
will dig it up. This spell is like a genie in a bottle. It should
never be unleashed or the power of the spell is lost.

Witch's Bottle

Materials:

Rosemary
Needles and pins
Red wine
Ornamental jar or bottle

Hold the rosemary in your projective hand. Charge the herb with
protection energies until it feels comfortable in your hand. Do the
same with the needles and pins (carefully so you do not get pricked.
NOTE: Should the needle or pin prick you, the blood can be
incorporated into the spell to further bind it to you and charge it
with your personal protection).

Fill a small ornamental jar or bottle with the first three
ingredients. Do not add the wine until the container is completely
filled. Pour the red wine into the container, reciting as you pour:

"Pins, needles, rosemary and wine.
Sacred within for all time;
Guard against harm and enemies;
This is my will, So mote it be!"

Visualize these herbs doing just that. Cap or cork the jar and drip
wax from a black or red candle around the seal. Place the container in
an inconspicuous place in the house, preferably near an entrance. The
contents of the bottle impale evil or negativity, the wine drowns it,
and the rosemary dismisses it. The bottle will not need recharged
until and unless it is moved from its location. It can be retuned to
a new location by repeating the incantation and infusing it with
energies from its new placement.

Family Happiness

An acorn, hung in every window brings luck.

Wait for a west wind. Bring a turquoise to your home. Make a teas of
rosemary sprigs and hawthorn. Say:

From the earth, my true home
these herbs I welcome!
They will show, in peace in love

Witches' Bottle of Protection

(Note: this is from my BoS and I have modified the original source
material to suit my own needs. Email with any questions.)

Need:

Bottle with cork
pins and nails
broken glass
broken mirror
hair or nail clippings from the members of the household (I don't see why
you can't add the animal hair as well)
Rosemary
3 drops blood

1. Place the above in the bottle while concentrating on the
protection of your house and family members

2. During dark moon, bury it on the farthest corner of your
property where it won't get plowed or dug up. (but NOT the northwest
corner - I reserve the NW corner for bottled prosperity)

3. While burying it, repeat:

"Hecate, Lady of the Dark Moon,
Let no harm come to me to bloom.
Let no evil cross my path
Turn it away and make me laugh.
He who wishes harm to me,
Must first go a round with thee.
Safety shielded by our law of three,
As I will, so Mote It Be!"

4. Thank the earth and leave offering as your tradition. Ground
and wait 24 hours for all negativity to vacate the property.

5. After 24 hours, encircle the property boundaries with a ring
of consecrated salt water deosil.

6. Raise your proective shield over the whole of the property and
seal the areas where phone and power lines cut into your shields.

Other Household Protecion Ideas - Taken from various sources

**Set whole cloves of garlic in center of each room in house for 24
hours. Without touching them, dispose of them off your property.

**Pound an iron nail on the outside of the door in the center above
the doorframe.

**Lean a broom upside down next to your main exterior door.

**Passive shield - bury four crystals, one at each corner of the house
to provide a "white noise" shield around the house.

I hope these ideas help you out. Please let me know if there is
anything I can do to help you.

Here's a few. These came out of my personal BoS and I have used them
all at one point or another. See what works for you.

Bottle Spell

Used to neutralize the power of those who intend to do you physical
harm, or hurt your reputation, or in any way pose a threat to your
security.

You Will need:

* 4 tbsps Frankincense or Myrrh
* 4 tbsps Black powdered Iron
* 4 tbsps Sea Salt
* 4 tbsps Orris-root Powder (or oak moss)
* 1 white candle
* 1 bottle with a cork or lid
* Mortar and pestle
* Parchment Paper
* Black Ink or black ballpointpen
* Black thread

Sacred within for all time;
Guard against harm and enemies;

They will show, in peace in love
the way to go.

Take a sip of the infusion and meditate on your home and family.
Visualize the people in your home, happy. Pick up the turquoise.

I was taught that this was a special blessing of the Goddess. That She feels you need a special blessing at that point in time.  Or you have done something to warrant a special blessing sign from Her.
I have seen something like that at different times of the year. It is a wonderful thing to behold.

I work for a newspaper and there is an article that is going in tomorrows papers that just makes me ashamed to call myself human! There is a community that is freaking out because the Green Act has made it possible for large solar panels to be used in residential area. They are signing petitions and consulting lawyers, saying that the government has no right to "do" this to them that they want to be compensated for having to look at such an "eyesore". How are we ever going to fix this poor planet with idiotic people like this? People all over complain about how ugly wind turbines and solar panels are. Apparently they like paying thousands of dollars to hydro and gas companies. I personally like the look of wind turbines and solar panels aren't ugly either, I just don't get people. There is always such outrage when there is an oil spill or something like that but when it comes to green energy, planet saving projects no way not in their
neighborhoods/backyards, they might have to look at it. Captain Double Standard strikes again!

OK...that's my vent

Elder's Meditation of the Day

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"To me, the wisdom the Elders have to manifest is in teaching people
how to live in harmony and balance with each other and the Earth."

-- Sun Bear, CHIPPEWA

You cannot give away what you don't have. You need to give away what
you have in order to keep it. Our Elders have lived their lives with a
lot of trial and error. They have experienced how to do things well and
they have experienced what didn't work for them as they grew old. They
know things about living that we don't know. So, through the years the
Elders have gained wisdom. They usually have a whole different point of
view because of all their experiences. There are two ways to learn.
Someone tells us what they did and we do the same thing or someone
tells us what they did and we choose not to do it. Both of these paths
will help us to live.

My Creator, teach me about choices and decisions and consequences. Put
an Elder in my life to guide me.

Moving Energy for Magic

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Wed Sep 21, 2011 9:53 pm (PDT)

Moving Energy for Magic

In Green Witchcraft, magic works through the individual, bringing
together Earth and cosmic energy, then sending it to perform a task.
This all happens within the medium of a person's body.

Body heat indicates energy. We should be aware then, as heat is most
easily transmitted or lost through the top of the head, the soles of
the feet, and the palms of the hands, that these points are then the
primary access points in our bodies for energy. That is, universal
energies come through the top of the head, and are generally accessed
for balancing and cleansing of the chakras, and for spiritual
connection with the cosmic aspect of the divine. Earth energies are
drawn up through the feet for directing into spell work. The following
are some suggestions for making the best use of the body to direct and
make use of universal energies.

Directing Energies Through the Body

The soles of the feet and the palms of the hands are energy points that
relate to the elementals in their sequence of earth, air, fire, and
water. The left foot is the stability of earth; the right foot is the
movement through air; the right hand is the action of fire, and left
hand is the intuitive flow of water. The symbol of the pentagram is
formed when you include the head as a representation of a connection to
the cosmic energy. It is here that the brain acts as a great battery,
generating mental impulses of energy. The hands are the primary tools
for moving energy, even when holding ritual items such as the athame or
wand. Thus the right hand is used to draw in elemental fire for
energizing and empowering your magic, while the left hand is used to
draw in elemental water to soothe, protect, and urge matters to
completion. Energies from other people are easily accessed in ritual
through the crown of the head, making this a source of migraines,
fuzzy-headedness, and headaches when there is an overload of negative
energies. The brain tries to equalize the flow throughout the body, but
instead becomes overworked, requiring you to ground and center,
manipulate cleansing energy, or use crystals to realign your own
energies and purge the unwanted energies.

Grounding and centering prior to performing magical work brings an
inner calm and pulls Earth energy inside you through your feet to rise
and intertwine with your personal energy. Without this crucial
practice, you will siphon off your own energy, leaving yourself
depleted by the end of your ritual or spell. For help in visualizing
this energy movement, you may want to view the source of Earth energy
as coming from the living planet Gaia, or coming from the molten center
core of the planet, the magma. When you cast the circle, envision it as
a sphere that contains the energy raised in and around you. It is open
when your spell is completed, and its residual energy is released back
into the Earth through your palms by touching the ground.

There are different ways to raise and gather energy to activate spells.
This includes dancing around the circle (deosil for positive energy,
widdershins for negative energy), chanting a short rhyme in a rising
crescendo, or altering your breathing pattern with a sweeping intake
followed by a rapid exhalation directly onto the spell materials. The
whole procedure, from raising to focusing, directing, and sending the
energy, should be one fluid motion. The soles of the feet as they move
in dance are maintaining the Earth connection, drawing up manifesting
power and balancing strength, as well as blending the spiritual,
psychic, and mental energies of air to be passed into physicality
through spell work. The hands motion in unison to involve the
elementals and the divine, to call upon devas and spirit energies, and
to bestow and receive blessings. Gestures also aid with visualizing the
motion of energy in spells and other magical work. The hands draw the
raised energy, direct it into a spell item, or point and send it where
it needs to go. Energy is focused into a palpable ball between the
palms of the hands, then thrust into a spell object through the fingers
or the palms. By giving the hands a single emphatic shake with the
fingers pointed, energy may be propelled in a particular direction. A
deep cleansing breath brings closure to the process, along with
affirmations such as, "It is done!" and, "So mote it be!"

Sending and receiving blessings creates an energy loop between your
hands and the power of the divine. To practice this connection, do the
following sequence of motions once for unity, twice for balance, or
three times for completion. Hold your hands palms up with arms
outstretched in front of you, then gather energy from the air by
turning the palms inward. Drawing the palms close to your chest with
arms crossed, so blending these energies with your personal energy. To
release the energy, lower and uncross the arms, and thrust the hands
forward again with a pushing motion that places the palms outward with
the heels down and fingertips up.

To draw in cleansing energy from the divine, begin by holding your arms
and hands in a triangle encompassing your head. Place the heels of the
palms above your head nearly touching at the center, and angle your
hands back with fingers bent inward (like a bowl). Bring the hands down
along the sides of the head, with the palms still upward, until level
with the shoulders, while you envision a white light rushing through
your body, gathering unwanted energies back into your hands. Turn the
palms downward and bring your arms parallel to your sides. Continue the
downward push to bring the palms into contact with the ground, thus
releasing the purged energies. This type of energy movement is
especially useful for clearing your head and revitalizing your system
after working too hard or being in unpleasant company.

After all of these ritual movements of energy, you should feel an
emptiness where the magic was performed, and sense the vibration of
energy left behind. But in the end you need to make sure the spell
casting energies is no longer a part of you. Give a blessing to the
Earth for aiding in the magical work as you release the residue energy
into the ground, then take some refreshment to restore normal awareness.

Wicca: A New Spirit of Religion

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Wed Sep 21, 2011 9:54 pm (PDT)

Wicca: A New Spirit of Religion

It is said that Wicca is the fastest growing religion in the world
today.

Modern Wicca is based upon personal freedom, personal responsibility,
and

self-interpretation. It is probably one of the few religions that has no

central authority and no authoritative source book upon which the
religion is

built. Modern Wicca is more about spirituality than it is about formal

religion. It is, however, based upon ancient principles and practices
rooted

in pre-Christian European paganism.

Wicca was first publibly introduced in 1954 by Gerald Gardner. In the
late

1960s it spread throughout England and took root in North America.
Durin the

1960s Wicca merged with many sub-cultures. The followers of the hippie

movement were strongly attracted to the Wiccan message of individualism
and

free-thinking. Others whose lifestyle was not accepted by mainstream
society

also found a home within Wicca.

By the 1980s Wiccans were found in almost every occupation and
profession.

The battle for freedom of religion continued, and in the 1990s many
gains

were made for recognition by government agencies.

The year 2000 presents many new visions for the future, as well as many
new

challenges. It is a time for renewal. But more importantly, it is a
time to

make changes that will allow us to pass on a beautiful world to our
future

descendants. The spiritual path of modern Wicca can help us achieve
this by

making us aware of several very important truths.

First, we must understand that the Earth is truly our mother. Without
her

fertile soil we would have no food or shelter, for Nature provides the
plants

and trees upon which we all rely. Second, we must fully embrace the idea

that every thing and every person on our planet is connected. In the
end,

what we do to the Earth, and to each other, we do to ourselves. Third,
we

must realize that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, not

human beings having a spiritual experience. Once this realization comes,

then we can find the peace, happiness, and balance we all seek in this

lifetime.

Wiccans do not seek to convert others to their religion. Practicing
Wicca is

a personal choice. Unless a person is whole within him or herself, it is

difficult to give to another. The majority of Wiccans are solitary

practicioners and have chosen Wicca as a path of self-development. Once
a

person has developed the spiritual tools to enhance his or her life

experience, then that person can be of good service to others. Many
Wiccans

go on to become priests and priestesses within their communities. The
path

of Wicca is one of peaceful co-existence, and Wiccans adhere to a
philosophy

of non-violence.

"REDE is a code of conduct that states 'and as it harm none, do as thou

will.' It is the cornerstone of modern Wiccan philosophy, and one of
the few

laws that is universal within all Wiccan traditions. However, the

interpretation of the meaning of the Rede is not universal. Many Wiccans

interpret the Rede to mean that one should never perform any action
that is

harmful to another. Other Wiccans feel that self-defense is allowable,
but

should be the last means of dealing with a situation. Some Wiccans feel
that

the Rede refers instead to finding the true will of the inner divine,
and

then following it with compassion toward all. Many Wiccans feel that the

Rede is connected to the Three-Fold Law, a concept of 'getting back
what one

gives out.' This law is not unlike the concept of Karma.

The spirit of the Rede points toward peaceful co-existence. It is
reflective

of the Wiccan attitude of 'live and let live.' Wiccans readily accept
the

fact that everyone is entitled to their own religious and spiritual
beliefs.

Wicca is not a religion of judging others, but rather one of tolerance."

--Encyclopedia of Wicca and Witchcraft

It is not the way of modern Wiccans to ignore the physical world while

embracing their spiritual path. Many Wiccans are intimately involved in

environmental issues. Wicca is a religion of seeking balance. The
teachings

within Wicca provide one with the ability to live a comfortable and

fulfilling life while at the same time allowing one to embrace the
spiritual.

Wiccans see in Nature the ever-returning cycles of growth, decline, and

renewal.

This is known as the Wheel of the Year. By participating in the cycles
of

Nature, one is bathed in its energies. In this pool of energy the Wiccan

resonates to the same frequency as Nature. To become one with Nature in
this

way draws one to live in common cause with Her. This spirit of
cooperation

and stewardship is the hope of our planet and the promise of tomorrow.

"Wheel of the Year is a term for the seasons or cycles of Nature marked
by

the Sabbats of Wicca. It is often symbolized by an eight-spoke wheel

indicating each solstice and equinox as well as the days that fall
exactly

between each, the mid-points or cross-quarters. As the year progresses
it is

said that the Wheel of the Year turns. In modern Witchcraft/Wicca there
are

four greater Sabbats and four lesser ones. In most of the northern
European

traditions the 'Cross-Quarters' are the greater Sabbats:
Imbolc/Candlemas

(February Eve), Beltane/Roodmas (May Eve), Lughnassadh/Lammas (August
Eve),

and Samhain/Halloween (November Eve)."

-------Encyclopedia of Wicca and Witchcraft

You, the reader, are a vital seed for the future. In you is the
potential to

accomplish anything you focus your mind and energies upon. So the next
time

you find yourself beheath the light of the Moon, remember it is
magickal and

you are magickal.

The word "religion" means to join things together and to make holy.

Therefore, look within yourself, join together there what you find, and
let

the new spirit awaken with you. For you are a vital part of the world,
and

you are needed in this community of spirits sharing a human experience

together on planet Earth.
