Well said! I find that the tide has turned in the pagan communities and
Traditions are viewed with suspicion and dislike, "no better than the
Christian church". This article ought to be put up somewhere so that others
can see it.

Lady N,

Hazarr and Brava!

You absolutely nailed it.

In my experience, Traditional Witches may or may not claim to honour the Rede but most do have their owncode of ethics or morals.

Wiccan Witches do claim to honour the Rede and it flavours the Magick they cast.

Other Witches may choose to use Magick to harm others as is felt needed.

As a Wiccan Witch, I have no need to judge any other Witch. I have enjoyed the company of most every type of Witch imaginable over the years. If one avoids judging, it opens up so many wonderful opportunities to grow and to learn and to make awesome connections with kindred spirits.

Put positive energy into life and it does come back by three. If we allow our focus to shift to the negative then that is what life gives back.

So, the old Candle Witch says;  Live life to the fullest, worship as you please, cast positive Magick, focus on the positive in all things, love somebody more than yourself, and find things to laugh about! Travel this path and you will find happiness.

Brightest Blessings,
Stormy )O(

Life is a journey,
enjoy the ride ~
just avoid kissing the trail!

Subject: [13Witches] Remarks about the 'Wicca and Traditional Witchcraft' Article

Greetings, several things bothered me about this particular article.  It basically
states that Traditional Witches don't bother with ritual, tools, ethics,
yada, yada, yada, and that Wiccans just preach "be nice."

For the record, I am a Traditional Witch.  I am also an initiated Gardnerian, although
I don't practice within that tradition now.  So you might say I am a combination of both.
And you know what?  I believe that Wiccans and Traditional Witches are more alike
than different.

While  Witches pass down certain things through their families, as time
progresses other aspects are incorporated into these beliefs, spells, etc.
My family had a "Book of Shadows," although it wasn't formally called that.
We just called it "the book."  Some of the pages were so old as to be
crumbling.  Each branch of the family that carried on the magickal traditions
had their own "family" version, plus the individual ones that each Witch
kept.  I have a family Book of Shadows, a personal one, and one on a computer
disk, as well as a Coven Book of Shadows.  My family used tools, cast circles
and performed rituals.  I spent much of my early years in New Orleans, so I was also
exposed to the  Voudon traditions as well.

Do I, as a Traditional Witch, proclaim my heritage with haughtiness?
Absolutely not. I think that by differentiating between Witchcraft and
Wiccans, we have created a notion that one is somehow better, or more
legitimate, than the other.  While I have kept family traditions alive, I
have become more of an Eclectic Witch, as I incorporate aspects of various
traditions into my workings, especially concerning Astrological
correspondences, as do many other Witches and Pagans.

The Wiccan belief systems are based on the ancient traditions, so there are
more similarities than differences, in my opinion.  And as for the Wiccan
Rede, when you stop and think about it, is there any real difference in
intent between the concept that was introduced 2000 years ago, "Do unto
others as you would have others do unto you" and "An it harm none, do as ye
will"?  Whatever words you use, if everyone behaved in the
spirit of either of the two statements, no laws would be necessary.  "Do unto
others...." has been detailed into so many laws that no one can possibly
count, and people still don't seem to "get it."

This article would have one believe that Traditional Witches have no morals,
so to speak, and don't follow the "rule of three".  While some proudly
proclaim "I don't follow the Wiccan Rede," I can only say, What are your
moral standards?  Whether Witch or Wiccan, most everyone I know takes those
words or similar ones seriously and strive to live by a personal set of
standards.  The teaching of personal responsibility rather than rules works
better in the long run.

It should be noted that "harm none" applies to self-destructive behavior, as
well as to harm directed to another.  The most emphatic aplication of "As it
harm none..." is in regard to the practice of magick.  The more adept you
become in techniques of mental focus, projecting your will, raising and
moving energy, or whatever else you'd like to call it, the greater your
responsibility grows.  Whether Wiccan or Witch,  the ultimate no-no is the
intentional use of magick to harm another.  You may do what you will for
yourself, but to  manipulate another person in the process is morally
wrong.

Wiccans and Witches are keenly aware of the energies they are creating in
their lives, and they take responsibility for their creations.  If things are
not going as they would like, they examine what they might be doing or
projecting or thinking that they could change, rather than looking for
someone else to blame.

"What goes around comes around."  Without even going into the areas of karma
and reincarnation, you can prove the truth of this idea in many small ways in
daily life.Try this on anyone.  Scowl and be grumpy and impatient and see how
you are treated.  Or, smile and be gracious and polite, even if others are
grumpy, and see how the atmosphere changes.  Most anyone who has ever
consciously thought about it, and tried it, will tell you that you do indeed
get in your life pretty much what you are willing to put into it and what you
expect from it, whether Wiccan or Traditional Witch.

Cidar vinegar has been a standard staple for a while. I like the taste of it
in the broth and I take a supplement of it three times daily (the organic
stuff with the 'mother' unfiltered out of it).

Once a month we check liver and kidney function and also a complete blood
test. The red cells are low but not critically so. He doesn't know what he
could do about it anyhow, as I'm a difficult transfusion patient. I'm AB-,
one of the rarest and hardest to match and I don't react well to synthetics
or O- because of other factors in the blood. None of my other family
members are healthy enough to donate so we're kind of messed over there.

I put as much food in as will allow. Unfortunately not even the liquids
always stay where they belong.

Jacksonville Public Libraries--Unfortunate Victims of Budget Cuts--S

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Fri Sep 9, 2011 8:32 pm (PDT)

September 9, 2011

Dear Library Customers,

As it stands right now, the Jacksonville Public Library budget will be cut by $3.5 million in the new
Fiscal Year beginning October 1.

The result of this significant reduction in funding will be fewer hours of service at all libraries; all libraries
will be closed on Mondays. The Main Library and four regional libraries will continue to be open for four
hours each on Sundays. However, in order to accommodate the budget cut and provide these Sunday
hours, service hours will need to be reduced during the week at these locations. The Maxville Branch
library will be closed.

In order to meet a budget reduction of $3.5 million, which represents almost 9% of the library operating
budget, 41 full-time positions will be eliminated. In addition, 25 to 30 part-time positions will be lost.

The Jacksonville City Council will hold a public hearing on the city's budget during its regularly scheduled
meeting on September 13 beginning at 5 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at City Hall (117 West Duval
Street). The final vote on the budget is September 27.

We will continue to contact city council members to urge them to reconsider these cuts and to avoid
any further reductions to the library's budget. If you have questions or concerns about these cuts,
please contact your council member. Find your council member by visiting My Neighborhood search
on the City of Jacksonville website and entering your address. You can find the latest updates on the
Budget on our blog at www.ilovejpl.com.

Thank you for your ongoing support and patronage.

Frankincense Soap

Some of you may be thinking about holidays gifts.
Get started early as this one takes some time.
Wrap unscented purchased soap with cheesecloth,
then sprinkle the wrapped bar with a few drops of
Frankincense essential oil. Place the soap in an
airtight container for a month, then discard wrapping.
You can decorate the soap with silver or gold leaf applied
in a random pattern. Dampen the soap before applying metallic leaf!
This makes a gorgeous gift!

Children in the Craft

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Fri Sep 9, 2011 9:53 pm (PDT)

Children in the Craft

One of the great joys of religious freedom is the ability to raise your children with the traditions and holidays of your chosen spiritual path. As an openly Pagan mother, I am often asked "Do you raise your children to be Witches?"

As parents we really have no control over what belief systems our children will choose to embrace as adults. If we did, there would be no Paganism movement today since most of the current generation of Pagans did not come from Pagan homes.

When I was growing up I was blessed with parents who were totally unconcerned with my spiritual leanings. I was free to initiate myself to Artemis at the age of nine and to practice ancient Egyptian ceremonies in my back yard when I was twelve. I know it didn't occur to either one of my parents that I was training myself for a lifetime career as a priestess. Yet they bought me every book about mythology that they could find and my mother gave me a set of Tarot cards when I was ten. We celebrated all the normal generic American holidays as well as occasionally indulging in Chanukah and Passover, thanks to my father's Jewish heritage. I was encouraged to learn about whatever interested me, and so I did. This intellectual and spiritual freedom allowed me to find and pursue the path of Paganism at a very early age.

I am so grateful to my parents for providing me with the gift of free thought that I strive to do the same for my own children. I have avoided giving them exclusively Pagan explanations for natural phenomena. I have read many wonderful myths about nature. Who am I to say whether the rain comes from the milk in the Egyptian goddess Hathor's breasts, or the tears of the Norse goddess Freya, or the fertilizing essence of the Aztec sky gods? I have chosen to teach them the current scientific theories and I have exposed them to as many different stories as possible.

Including children in Pagan circles can be a wonderful experience for all participants. Just don't expect more solemnity than you would have from any group of playful, energetic creatures. Gearing a circle's activities toward children will make it fun for everyone.

I trust my children to find the spiritual path that will bring them comfort and joy and that will guide them in times of trouble. Yet I take great pleasure in exposing them to Pagan ideas and practices, and I take their psychic training very seriously. Unfortunately, my parents were totally lacking in knowledge about the needs of an overly psychic child. They had no concept of shielding or grounding, or even the reason for it. As a result I was bombarded by psychic insights and the flotsam and jetsam from other people's minds until I started to read fairy tales and learned that there were spells and energetic structures that I could create to protect myself. Teaching children to shield is much easier than teaching adults. I have taught my own children the rudiments of shielding with imagination games. The following exercises will be fun for you and your children to practice.

PSYCHIC EXERCISES FOR CHILDREN

ALL PURPOSE: Imagine that you're in a giant egg made of white light, all safe and cozy.

FEAR, LONELINESS: You have a ball made of soft pink glowing clouds. How big can you make it? How tiny? How far up will it go?

SCATTERED ENERGY: You are a tree with deep, strong roots reaching into the earth and bright green leaves drinking the light of the Sun.

BEDTIME: You are in a big blue boat floating on a warm blue sea.

DURING ILLNESS: You are surrounded on all sides by green leafy trees that smell good.

THE SABBATS FOR CHILDREN

YULE: WINTER SOLSTICE
This holiday marks the shortest day of the year. Imagine a world without artificial lighting and then contemplate just how long the longest night of the year really is. I know that many Pagan parents feel dismayed by the deluge of quasi Christian traditions that flood our media and stores during the holidays. However, I have found that these are the very best times to expose my children to Pagan lore. A visit to the giant creche at Christmastime allowed me to point out the Great Mother Goddess Mary, Her consort Joseph, Her divine son the Christ child, and her sacred totems--cows, sheep, and donkeys. I indulge in all the modern Solstice traditions. Stringing together cranberry and popcorn garlands, singing carols, and making gingerbread castles is fun regardless of your age or spiritual path. However, to really understand the deep night of the Winter Solstice you need to sit in the dark a little bit. On the longest night give your electrical appliances a break, except perhaps for your Solstice tree. Break out the candles and the board games. Feast on caramel corn and walnuts. Sing songs and tell stories until bedtime.

IMBOLC
Unless you live on the southern half of the planet, February is going to be cold. Poised right between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox it feels as if Winter will never end. Imbolc is sacred to the Celtic goddess Brigid. It is She who causes the snows to melt and the milk to flow. It is a quickening holiday--one that reminds us that the promise of spring is there even as the frost lies thick on the ground.

EOSTRE--SPRING EQUINOX
Easter is an opportunity to discuss the goddess Eostre, Her sacred bunnies, and Her basket-womb full of eggs. This is a fertility holiday in the fine old Pagan ways and I see very little way to improve on it. I just talk about the resurrection of the Sun and leave out the whole crucifixion myth.

MAY DAY--BELTANE
This is another barely concealed Pagan festival. It has always been difficult to rationalize this as a Christian holiday and the holiday was often banned because of it. It is a celebration of the fertility and abundance of the earth. I can't imagine improving on Maypoles and bonfires, so I don't.

SUMMER SOLSTICE--LITHA
A celebration of the longest day of the year. This holiday has very little in the way of symbolic games and crafts because it is such an easy holiday to understand. Food is plentiful, the days are warm. It's a great time to light a bonfire and feast on summer vegetables and fruits.

LAMMAS
This is a bread holiday. It is time to celebrate the magic of grain. Lammas is the origin of our country fairs. You can help your children participate in the festivities by encouraging them to enter the shows and displays. If you have never made bread with your children, now is an excellent time to experience this everyday miracle.

FALL EQUINOX--MABON
The days and nights are once again equal. Mother Earth begins to pull the energy out of Her leaves and into Her roots. This is a good time to appreciate the balance of nature, and to understand that the blossoms of Beltane are the culmination of Winter's underground labors begun in the seeds of autumn.

HALLOWEEN--SAMHAIN
During Halloween I talk about Hecate's suppers. These were dinners left on the doorstep for Hecate and Her train of ghosts, goblins, and black hounds. In truth, these were donations to the poor and allowed them to accept charity masked and without shame. Today Hecate's followers wield plastic pumpkins and flashlights and are more intent on getting a bag full of candy than a healthy meal. Again I find it tough to improve on this abundantly Pagan holiday.

Teaching Paganism to kids is as simple as taking a walk in the park. Celebrate the holidays with joy, light, and goodies. Teach children to ground, center, and shield, and they will have everything they need to follow the Lord and Lady in whatever tradition they choose.

Using Colors for Magical Charging

Using Colors For Magical Charging

The effect of color on human emotions is a well-known phenomenon. Color has
a vibration. In a certain respect it is a visual energy, but each color has
its own individual vibratory essense, and therefore each is unique in its
influence. Just as color can be used to enhance the atmosphere of a room or
an object, it can also be used to enhance magical energy. There are many
different methods of accomplishing this task. Colored bottles can be used to
store things such as incense or oils. Light can be passed through a colored
filter, such as stained glass, and focused on an amulet or talisman. In this
article, we shall explore this method of using color for magical charges.

Centuries ago, occultists devised a table of correspondences indicating the
metaphysical properties of various colors. A color code was created so that
an individual could refer to it when needed for ritual or magical work. The
belief in the magical power of the color red, for example, dates back to
ancient Roman times, where it symbolized the sacred liquid of life and the
heat of the sacred flame. Blue was the color of the sky, the Great Spirit,
associating it with divine blessings. Silver, as a lunar color, held power
over spirits of the astral world. The following is a basic list of colors
you can use for magical charging involving oils, potions, or incense:

AMBER: grounding, calming, condensing, and preserving.

BLACK: hidden forces, binding, and guarding secrets.

BLUE: blessing, well-being, and peace.

GOLD: material success and gain.

GREEN: healing, nurturing, growth, and fertility.

GREY: neutrality and contentment.

PINK: friendships and relationships.

PURPLE: magical energy.

RED: passion, vitality, and success in matters of love.

SILVER: spirits or spiritual forces at work.

YELLOW: mental activity and communication.

A Technique For Magical Charging

You will first need to decide on the material you want to use. Stained glass
is an excellent choice, but you can also use translucent-colored paper or
plastic. The light spectrum is more important than the filter itself,
although crystalline properties do further enhance the vibratory energy of
the light. Colored glass bottles can easily be found in antique stores, and
most department stores carry them during the holiday seasons.

Both the Sun and the Moon are used as sources of light when charging by
color. Sunlight is employed first, followed by moonlight, and never the
reverse unless you wish to remove or negate the magical charge. Sunlight
passing through colored glass will impart the vibratory essence of the color.
Moonlight will impart the etheric or metaphysical properties. You can think
of sunlight as the body and moonlight as the spirit.

When preparing to charge by color, consider the phase of the Moon and the
season of the year. Both cycles exert an influence upon the light spectrum.
The waxing Moon is best for works of gain, growth, or outcome. The waning
Moon is best for works of decline, dissipation, binding, and introspection.
The same is true of the waxing and waning seasons of the year.

Using a color charge can also capture and condense the energy of the Full
Moon, equinox, or solstice. This can then be passed into an oil, potion, or
incense specifically formulated as is appropriate to the season or event. To
accomplish this, first consult a calendar for the specific day and hour. You
may wish to check on the planetary influences as well. Remember that you
will perform this both during the day and night, so check both times. To
obtain the precise nature of the charge desired may require performing the
charge on two different calendar days.

When the time is right in accord with the desired nature of the charge,
select the appropriate-colored bottle or filter. Place the bottle containing
the material you wish to charge in the sunlight at noon for one hour. If
using a colored filter, prop it so that the sunlight sheds colored light
through the filter on the material. After the time has passed, remove the
filter/bottle and material from the sunlight. When the phase of the Moon is
right for your needs, repeat the same technique at either 9:00 PM or
Midnight. During the charging process you can recite an invocation or the
words of a spell to further enhance the charge. This is extremely useful as
it helps to "inform" the material with the condensed energy of your thoughts
and desires.

Additional energy can be added when using a colored bottle by adding a
crystal. At noon, pinch the crystal between your thumb and index finger of
the left hand. Trace a wide sweeping arch from your right shoulder, over
your head, and down to your left shoulder. At the peak of the sweep, just
above your head, quickly close all of your fingers around the crystal as
though you were snatching the Sun out of the sky, pressing it into the
crystal. Then simply drop the crystal into the bottle containing the oil,
potion, or incense. There it will act as a battery of power, maintaining and
vitalizing the magical charge.

The same technique can be used for capturing the magical influence of the
Moon when it occupies a specific astrological sign, or is Full on the hight
of a Solstice or Equinox. Since this only occurs once during an eight-year
cycle, it is considered particularly magical. Keep a selection of charged
bottles and label them according to their magical nature. Recharge them each
Full Moon by setting them out beneath the moonlight for an hour. Do not set
them out beneath the Sun, as the light of day will dispel the astral energy.

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"The Creator told everyone of us in our tribal beginnings to look after our ceremonies, and each other."

-- Barney Bush, SHAWNEE

Our ceremonies are important and each has a purpose. They teach us about the Creator and about each other. The ceremonies teach us to be humble and teach us to pray. They teach us to look inside ourselves. We should remember to pray each morning. Ask the Creator to guide our thinking. Think only good thoughts. Think good thoughts about our relatives and about our brothers and sisters. Pray for our children in ceremony. Give thanks to the Great Mystery of life. All life is sacred. Pray in a sacred way.

Oh Great Spirit, I come to You this morning in ceremony. I come to this sacred place to talk to You. I thank You for Your guidance and protection. Give me Your eyes today so I may see the beauty in all things.

Full Moon info for Sep 2011

The Full moon will be on Monday (for all time zones). The oncoming autumn blows the first leaves off the trees, the time of harvesting and gathering begins. Nowadays, this has obviously a different significance than in the old days. Still, we are gathering experiences, impressions, information or memories. And one thing in particular: things. We are collecting tons of them, sometimes so many that the archaic principle of life, namely transformation, has hardly a chance to unfold, given the superiority of objects. There is nothing bad about surrounding oneself with items. From time to time, however, it does feel good to let go of a few, giving them to someone or simply throwing them away. We are always inspired by this wonderful sentence: "Don't build nests in the past."

The exact time of the next full moon is:
Monday * 12th September 2011 * 11:26:42 am
Central European Summer Time (CEST)

Here you find this time converted into different timezones for other cities:
SYDNEY = Monday * 12th September 2011 * 07:26:42 pm (AEST)
TOKYO = Monday * 12th September 2011 * 06:26:42 pm (JST)
DELHI = Monday * 12th September 2011 * 02:56:42 pm (IST)
BERLIN = Monday * 12th September 2011 * 11:26:42 am (CEST)
LONDON = Monday * 12th September 2011 * 10:26:42 am (BST)
NEW YORK = Monday * 12th Sept 2011 * 05:26:42 am (EDT)
LOS ANGELES = Monday * 12th Sept 2011 * 02:26:42 am (PDT)

Love, Light and Abundant Blessings,
LadyHawk
