"Popular Antiquities: Folklore and Archaeology" conference, Institut

Forwarded from another list, just for interest's sake.

Subject: [ACADEMIC-STUDY-MAGIC] "Popular Antiquities: Folklore and
Archaeology" conference, Institute of Archaeology, UCL, 22 October 2011

I thought that this might be of interest to certain people on this list; a
conference held at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London
on the relationship between folklore and archaeology. I am presenting a
paper there entitled 'Devil's Stones and Midnight Rites: Megaliths, Folklore
and Contemporary Witchcraft' which deals with how the early Wiccan pioneers
adopted megaliths and their folklore into their own worldviews.

I hope it may be of interest to some people; there are only two weeks left
for registration, so anyone who wants to attend better book quick!

Indeed the Mercian gathering does look good. Heaps of Pagan things in the UK
are good..

Speaking of Oz though, what about the Down To Earth Confest?
http://www.confest.com/thesis/

I used to go to that all the time and while not specifically Pagan, that it
always had about 3000 people. Admittedly I didn't go to the organizational
meetings, so I don't know what the deal was with insurance, laws, fires n'
stuff.

Local councils here tend to not allow such land use.

The infrastructure most would require is quite extensive and expensive.

The insurance costs would be very large.

Australia has a rather different feel than the Uk when it omes to camping on
farms.

Academics on the radio chatting about interesting things

Forwarding for interests sake...

Subject: [ACADEMIC-STUDY-MAGIC] Academics on the radio chatting about
interesting things

Greetings!

In case some are unaware of it, I though I might bring the Internet
archive of "In Our Times" hosted by Melvyn Bragg to peoples' attention.
The guests are always professional academics. The talks last 45 minutes,
so no great depth, but are, I find, intelligent entertainment.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/in-our-time/archive/

The archive includes programmes about:-

Alchemy
Angels
Catharism
Daoism
Fairies
Heaven
Hell
Paganism in the Renaissance
The Delphic Oracle
The Devil
The Fisher King
The Greek Myths
The Holy Grail
The Norse Gods
Witchcraft
Yeats and Mysticism
Zoroastrianism

With my best wishes

Ben
