And you haven't caught fire yet, so it must be working!

Hi there, I was definitely drinking the tap water there in 1997, and possibly 1998 (I can't quite remember if I actually went in '98). I only heard of the fire retardant a few years ago, but of course I don't know when it actually appeared. But I definitely drank the water there for 12 or so years up to 97 or 98. ~Caroline.

A good common sense solution! But hang on, I don't think they can do that! Might be different down there but I believe up here they would probably have to supply treated water as good pure rainwater is not considered safe to drink by some local authorities!! I know the Qld Education Dept wont let the kids drink the rainwater from the tanks at the school here.

LOL yeah! My wife and I never take available drinking water for granted.25L's is more than enough for two people for average weekend.Using said water for everything including washing dishes.Usually have enough left to water a few trees before we leave.

Sounds simple.
First they have to get a tank cleaner out and clean the tank.
Then they need to organize a potable water service to cart water to
fill the tank.
Then they need to pay said water carter to keep the tank topped up.
Or they tell people "Bring your own water" and hang a "Do Not Drink,
Fire Retardant" sign...
