While interesteing indeed for Lovecraft fans (of which I am one), I feel compelled to challenge the idea that the necronomicon is real. "Speculation" could lead us to believe LOTS of things... few of which are true. From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necronomicon Lovecraft was often asked about the veracity of the Necronomicon, and always answered that it was completely his invention. In a letter to Willis Conover, Lovecraft elaborated upon his typical answer:Now about the "terrible and forbidden books" — I am forced to say that most of them are purely imaginary. There never was any Abdul Alhazred or Necronomicon, for I invented these names myself. Robert Bloch devised the idea of Ludvig Prinn and his De Vermis Mysteriis, while the Book of Eibon is an invention of Clark Ashton Smith's. Robert E. Howard is responsible for Friedrich von Junzt and his Unaussprechlichen Kulten.... As for seriously-written books on dark, occult, and supernatural themes — in all truth they don't amount to much. That is why it's more fun to invent mythical works like the Necronomicon and Book of Eibon.[4]

H P Lovecraft
H P LovecraftThe stories of Howard Phillip Lovecraft have provided us with a rich mythology of strange deities, among them Azathoth, C'thulu, Yog Sothoth and Nyarlathotep. He brought fame to the book known as the Necronomicon or Book of Dead Names.
Speculation could lead us to beleive that much of Lovecrafts mythos is based on the real Necronomicon, which Lovecraft had access to, due to his father's involvement in Egyptian Freemasonry. Of course, the theory is that his dad went mad from reading the Necronomicon and died mad.

I am a Lovecraft fan myself, but I believe personally that his works are fiction. He did have an overactive imagination!

Jack-O-Lanterns - A Brief History
This brief history of the jack-o-lantern is based on the most popular and accepted facts and legends. Since much of what is known regarding the beginnings of the Jack-O-Lantern is sketchy, we have tried to provide you with the most accurate, albeit brief, account available. In no way do we claim this to be the final word on the subject as the origin of the Jack-O-Lantern to this day remains open to discussion and dispute.
The term Jack of the Lantern first appeared in print in 1750 and referred to a night watchman or a man carrying a lantern. Previous to print, it was used to describe a strange light flickering over the marshes and graveyards of Ireland. If approached, the light advanced and was always out of reach. The mysterious occurrence is also known as "will o' the wisp" and "ignis fatuus," Gaelic for foolish fire. However, its legendary status reaches far back into Irish folklore with a story of a stingy drunkard named Jack.
Jack, an Irish blacksmith, had the misfortune of running into the Devil in a pub on Halloween. Jack had imbibed a bit too much that evening and was about to fall prey to the Devil, but the quick thinking trickster made a bargain with the Devil, nonetheless. In exchange for one last drink, Jack offered up his soul. The Devil changed his form into a sixpence in which to make payment to the bartender, but Jack pocketed the coin in a bag with a silver cross with the knowledge that the Devil couldn't revert form.
Once under Jack's thumb, and in his purse, the Devil agreed not to come for Jack's soul for another ten years. Ten years later, the Devil came across Jack walking on a country road and explained to him that he was there to collect Jack's soul. Not ready to go, Jack, pretending to comply, asked the Devil if he would climb an apple tree first and give him an apple. The Devil, thinking he had nothing to lose, climbed the tree, but as he was plucking the requested apple, Jack pulled out his knife and carved the sign of the cross in the tree's trunk. The Devil was unable to come back down and Jack procured an agreement from him. The Devil would never take his soul.
Years later, Jack finally died. He went to Heaven, but was dismissed from the gates due to his drinking, tricking, and miserly ways. He then went to Hell, but was denied entrance because the Devil remembered his promise. Jack asked, "But where am I to go?" And the Devil replied, "Back to where you came from."
The way back was dark and windy, so Jack pleaded with the Devil to at least grant him light in which to find his way. The Devil, in a magnanimous un-Devil like manner, tossed Jack an ember from the fires of Hell. Jack shielded the ember in a turnip he'd been eating and left Hell to wander back.
Ever since, Jack has been doomed to wander in the darkness alone, and his name and lantern are synonymous with a damned soul.
The fear of souls like Jack's venturing back to the warmth of their previous homes on Halloween spawned a custom that is carried on today. Originally, Irish villagers, concerned about the possibility of visits from past occupants, would dress in costume to frighten away ghosts. They also left food outside the door to appease the spirits and carved or painted faces on turnips, potatoes, rutabagas, or beets to place in windows or doors in order to chase away ghosts with the symbol of a damned soul. In England, large beets are used.
The Irish Potato Famine of the mid-1800's prompted a massive immigration to the Americas. With the Irish, came their beliefs and traditions, including the use of a Jack-O-Lantern. The Irish discovered that turnips were not readily available in the Americas and substituted the vegetable with pumpkins instead. Pumpkins, a fruit native to America, make perfect Jack-O-Lanterns.
The Jack-O-Lantern is easily the most recognized and used symbol of Halloween in modern age. Not only is it used outside front doors in traditional form, but it's become the veritable treat container for trick or treaters. While the face of the Jack-O-Lantern has changed over the years with the advent of pumpkin carving kits, it's still an ongoing tradition.

Credit the Irish with putting a colorful face on Halloween.
Carving jack-o'-lanterns is a Halloween custom brought to this country by Irish immigrants escaping "the Hunger," or the Great Potato Famine, which started about 1845 and lasted until 1850.
"A legend grew up about a man named Jack, who was so stingy he was not allowed into heaven when he died," a U.S. State Department publication says. "He couldn't enter hell, either, because he had played jokes on the devil. As a result, Jack had to walk the Earth with his lantern until Judgment Day."
The Irish began the "Jack of the Lanterns," or jack-o'- lantern, tradition by slicing frightening facial features into turnips, beets or potatoes.
"But when the Irish brought their customs to the United States, they carved faces on pumpkins because in the autumn they were more plentiful than turnips," the State Department says.
The practice eventually spread worldwide, becoming an enduring symbol of Halloween and the autumn harvest. Pumpkins are native to the Americas. Historians believe they were featured on the first Thanksgiving Day menu - probably cut into strips and roasted by the Indians.

spell to contact your spirit guide

Posted by: "Gary Reese" hyperreal69@yahoo.com   hyperreal69

Wed Sep 7, 2011 11:49 am (PDT)

Brightest Blessings,
Gae
Spell to Contact Your Spirit Guide
To meet your spirit guide:
Items needed:
* Altar Candle
* Day candle (whichever color for the day you be will doing your spell)
(Monday-white Tuesday-red Wednesday-purple Thursday-blue Friday-green Saturday-black Sunday-yellow)
* Offertory Candles - 3 Violet candles, 3 White candles
* Tools: Athame, Exacto Knife, or needle to inscribe candles
* Props: Crystal ball or clear glass of water
* Incense: anise, cardamon, and coriander
* Oil: jasmine, lemon, rose, and sandalwood
* Bathing Herbs: cinnamon, frankincense, myrrh, and sandalwood
Timing: Best done during the Mercury hour of the day, although any hour should work. Any moon phase is appropriate.
Preparation:
Breathe deeply and build a ball of protective light around you. While soaking in your ritual bath, meditate on the whole ritual: the steps you will take and what you wish to say to your spirit guide when you make contact.
Ritual:
Enter the circle in the Hour of Mercury. Light the incense. With the oil, dress the Altar Candle and the Day Candle while concentrating on the purpose of the ritual. Light your Altar candle and your Day candle and state your intent:
"I am here to make contact with my Spirit Guide, and to acknowledge him or her"
With your Athame, inscribe Violet Candle #1 with the word "Spirit". Dress it with oil.
Light the Violet candle #1, direct your energies into it, and say:
"Here do I light the first Lamp of Spirit. May its light reach out across the barriers from this world to the next. May it make contact with that World of Spirit into which we will eventually enter"
Take your censer or incense wand and swing in around censing the whole area around the altar, while rhythmically repeating the word "Merge" and building up energy to focus.
Replace the censer and pick up Violet candle #2. Inscribe it with the word "Spirit" and dress it with the oil. Put it back on the altar, light it, direct your energy into it, and say:
"Here do I light the second Lamp of Spirit. May it's light also reach out across the barriers from this world to the next. May it make contact with that World of Spirit and help spread the light, illuminating the passageway between our worlds."
Again, take the censer or incense wand and cense the entire area around the altar while chanting the word "Merge" Build up your energy to focus. Take violet candle #3, inscribe with the word "Spirit", dress with oil, charge with your energy, light it and say:
"Here do I light the third Lamp of Spirit.
May its light also reach out across the barriers from this world to the next. May the light from these three lamps blend and grow, dispelling all darkness and lighting the way that my Spirit Guide may come to me and speak with me here today."
Inscribe the 3 white candles with the word "Truth" and anoint each candle with oil. Light the 3 white candles in order of 1, 2, 3, and say:
"Here do I build Truth. As these candles burn throughout this ritual, their power generates nothing but truth in all that transpires between this world and the next. Through these candles there is truth in all communications that come to me".
Again, cense the entire altar area while chanting the word "Merge".
Replace the censer and continue chanting. Sit comfortably while chanting, and gaze into the crystal ball, or the clear glass of water. Continue chanting until you feel it is right to let the chant taper off. Continue to quietly look into the crystal ball or glass, not trying to picture anything. Keep your mind blank, so whatever comes will appear will come in it's own free will. Gaze into the center of the crystal, there is no need to try not to blink. Look into the crystal and blink naturally. Try not to notice anything in your peripheral vision, just the center of the crystal. Eventually a face or figure will appear. This may take a long time, or it may appear almost immediately. If it doesn't come at all within approximately 20 minutes, abandon this attempt, extinguish the candles in the order in which they were lit, leave the altar set up, and try this ritual again in three days. You should have results within a month at most.
When a figure does appear, ask if he/she is your Spirit Guide. You will hear an answer. You may not hear it out loud, or even see the figures lips move, but you will be aware of the answer. This is how most of your conversation will proceed. You will ask your questions mentally (or out loud) and the answers will be clear inside your mind.
Ask if you have more than one spirit guide. If yes, ask them to appear also. You may ask anything you wish to know, but it is suggested to establish a connection first where your Spirit Guide may appear to you at any time, or at specific times, so that you can converse with other spirits through him/her. When you have finished speaking with your Guide, thank him/her, then sit for a moment with your eyes closed, meditating on all that you have learned. Extinguish the candles in reverse order to clear the circle.

Family Updates

It's funny how we set our weeks and seasons by what has to be done to
which family member. This week (today, in fact) was Transfusion Week.
Dee doesn't manufacture his own blood cells in sufficient healthy
quantities and so about twice a month he gets whole blood transfusions
to help stave off the tiredness he feels and the pain in his joints.
Next month, if he continues healthy, they'll start the procedures for
a bone marrow graft (not a transplant, he would not survive it; this
will take marrow from his brother and implant it into his own in hope
that the new marrow will restart the process by which blood cells are
made in healthy amounts...I think. I'm not good at the medical stuff).

Next week is Chemotherapy Week. I go back to get my next month's
dosage. If it continues working, they'll cut the dosage to once every
three months and start cutting back the oral weekly dosage too. This
stuff makes me ill for weeks afterward and is so dangerous it has to
be injected in the office by a professional (my previous chemo
medications were injectable but a family member could be trained to
give them). The trade off is what's left of my immune system and,
ironically, part of the functionality of the red blood cells. This
stuff destroys two proteins in the autoimmune/blood chain permanently
in order to get the disease under control and in remission.

Thoughts and prayers are always appreciated. I sometimes feel, with
as accident and illness prone as we are, as though we ought to have a
whole brigade of angels (or at least bubble wrap and goose down
pillows) assigned to us.

Merry Meet,
Blessings being sent to all. Will be lighting a candle for everyone.
Chemo does ruin your appetite. Eat what you want to eat. Even if it's a little, it's something. Food makes us strong.
Did your Dr. speak to you about vitamins and other things? It would be good to ask on what foods would build up your blood cells.
My Mom couldn't and wouldn't eat any meat products. I made her a lot of beans and rice. I did a research on foods and what nutrients they give us. Check with your Dr. about seeing an Nutritionist.
Blessed Be
