Greetings Tim.

The whole "scene" seems to be in the doldrums as far as events of any kind go. Having been involved in the organization of a few events a few years back, it is my opinion that skyrocketing insurance costs have been a major reason; them and a general disillusionment with the whole Pagan/Witch bandwaggon that rolled through a town near you at the peak of the trendie mob s influence.

Am I sad that there is a decline in interest by the ex hippies, yuppies and assorted misfits? No not at all. Most of us that have been around for a while saw it coming. There is a hope in some quarters that when it all settles down we will be left with a scene that is a lot more honest, dedicated and not continually bleating about recognition, getting political clout and expecting this or that as some god given right, as a lot of relatively come-lately minority groups tend to do.

Forwarding for interests sake...

Subject: [ACADEMIC-STUDY-MAGIC] Academics on the radio chatting about
interesting things

Greetings!

In case some are unaware of it, I though I might bring the Internet
archive of "In Our Times" hosted by Melvyn Bragg to peoples' attention.
The guests are always professional academics. The talks last 45 minutes,
so no great depth, but are, I find, intelligent entertainment.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/in-our-time/archive/

The archive includes programmes about:-

Alchemy
Angels
Catharism
Daoism
Fairies
Heaven
Hell
Paganism in the Renaissance
The Delphic Oracle
The Devil
The Fisher King
The Greek Myths
The Holy Grail
The Norse Gods
Witchcraft
Yeats and Mysticism
Zoroastrianism

With my best wishes

Wiccan prison chaplain charged with sexual assault of Oshkosh inmate
During the incident she gave the inmate 15 hydromorphone pills to try to
make him sleepy

A prison chaplain at Oshkosh Correctional Institution is facing criminal
charges stemming from a failed hostage scheme she devised as an attempt to
get herself and an inmate transferred to another institution.
Jamyi J. Witch, 52, of Omro, was charged in Winnebago County Circuit Court
on Sept. 2 with second-degree sexual assault by correctional staff, delivery
of schedule I or II narcotics and delivering illegal articles to an inmate.
If convicted she faces 58 years, six months imprisonment and $160,000 in
fines.
Witch, whose hiring as the state's first Wiccan minister to serve as a
prison chaplain in 2001 was controversial, made her first court appearance
on the charges Monday and Winnebago County Court Commissioner John Kuech
released her on a signature bond.
The charges stem from a police investigation of an Aug. 10 incident where
Witch, a chaplain at the prison, claimed to have been taken hostage by an
inmate.
Oshkosh Correctional Warden Judy Smith contacted the Oshkosh Police
Department on Aug. 22 to inform them that the Department of Corrections had
intercepted a letter written by the inmate, who had been transferred to
Green Bay Correctional Institution, to his mother. In the letter the inmate
indicated Witch had come up with the plan for the Aug. 10 hostage situation.
In a written statement, the inmate said he had known Witch for several years
from when he was an inmate at Waupun Correctional Institution. He said after
being transferred to OSCI in 2009, he had seen Witch approximately six times
and he recently had mentioned to her he was sick of being at Oshkosh and was
considering a transfer to another institution. He said Witch suggested he
come into her office, shut the door and begin throwing things around in her
office.
Initially he thought it was a joke, but Witch told him, "if you change your
mind let me know."
The inmate told Witch about being jumped by three men while he was in his
cell on Aug. 7 and said he needed to get out of Oshkosh. She told him she
wanted to leave Oshkosh too because of threats from other staff and she had
a plan to get them both out of the facility.

Witch told the inmate the plan, which involved him coming into her office,
blocking the door and acting like Witch was his mother. She also discussed
giving him pills to make him sleepy and allow the guards to enter her office

The inmate said he left his cell on Aug. 10 without signing out and went to
Witch's office. He blocked the door with a board from a bookshelf and Witch
s wheelchair before requesting Witch have sex with him. She complied.
When corrections staff arrived outside Witch's office, the two began
role-playing and the inmate called her his mother. Eventually Witch gave him
15 hydromorphone pills to try to make him sleepy and sang him lullabies. The
inmate eventually removed the barricade after corrections staff told him he
would get breakfast.
When contacted by police on Aug. 24, Witch told police the inmate had
sexually assaulted her. She also admitted that she did not like working in
Oshkosh because of the people she worked with.
Witch is due back in court Sept. 22 for a preliminary hearing.
