Moonscopes for the week of January 30 to February 5

This Week's Moonscopes Forecast
For the week of January 30 to February 5
(Missed last week's forecast? Here it is.)

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday(*v/c-pm): the Moon is in Capricorn
The symbol for this sign is often referred to as the goat and astro lore talks about two kinds of goats for Capricorn. Some goats feel more comfortable operating in a tightly organized space. Other goats prefer to climb the high peaks even if it means teetering on the edge now and then. Both types of goats accomplish what they set out to do and neither type is superior to the other. The point to reflect upon here, while the Moon is in Capricorn, is that one's circumstances need to be in line with one's natural foundation rhythms if an undertaking is to be fully realized.

Tuesday evening, Wednesday(New Moon), Thursday: the Moon is in Aquarius
A great time on the wheel of seasons of the year - this New Moon, or Candlemas as it is often referred to, falls halfway between the highpoint of Winter and the highpoint of Spring for the Northern Hemisphere (simply reverse the seasons for Southern Hemisphere). In celebrations of olden times, grain-based foods such as pancakes and crepes were often eaten in the glow of candlelight. It was a time to consider and plan for the 'new', whatever that would be in each situation. The sign Aquarius is related to things new as well, no coincidence since it is always the astrological sign for this particular day. Aquarius likes to see change that improves current conditions, and it encourages a unique use of the imagination.

Friday, Saturday: the Moon is in Pisces
This part of the weekend calls for soft, sweet interests or pastimes. Pisces enjoys a dream-like atmosphere and escapist pursuits such as music, poetry, movies, and watercolors. A box of chocolates and lovely flowers wouldn't hurt either. Sounds like an early Valentine's Day and in a way it is since Pisces enjoys romance as well. So whether you are single, dating, or in a relationship, do something very special during these two days.

Check your astrology chart to find which house (section of your chart) has the current Moon sign on the cusp (the beginning edge) & apply Forecast information to that area of your life as well.
For example, the Moon is in Leo and one of the suggestions is to entertain - however Leo is located in the 12th house of your chart, which is an inward energy place...then have a small, quiet gathering. By contrast, if Leo is located in the 1st house of your chart, an outward energy place...have a party! Don't have an astrology chart? Click here .

It is interesting to note when the current Moon is in the same sign as your birth Moon and to see how the flavor of that day carries through the following 30 days.

Current Planet Positions:
Sun - Aquarius, until Feb. 19
Mercury - Capricorn, until Feb. 4
Venus - Sagittarius, until Feb. 4
Mars - Aquarius, until Feb. 23
Jupiter - Aries, until June 5
Saturn - Libra, until Oct. 6, 2012
Uranus - Pisces, until Mar. 12
Neptune - Aquarius, until Feb. 4, 2012
Pluto - Capricorn, until Nov. 20, 2024

Current Asteroid Positions:
Ceres - Aquarius, until Mar. 22
Pallas - Capricorn, until Mar. 11
Juno - Virgo, until July 28
Vesta - Capricorn, until Apr. 3
Chiron - Aquarius, until Feb. 18

Current Asteroid Transits:
Ceres - Tact, compromise, and a sense of humor.
Pallas - Evaluate responsibilities and delegate accordingly.
Juno - State clearly what is wanted in a personal partnership.
Vesta - Solidify desires with the ideal organization of Nature.
Chiron - Regeneration comes in unusual forms.

Note: Timeframes for Moon signs, void-of-course periods, and current planet & asteroid positions are noted for Eastern time zone (USA). Please adjust according to your own location. Times are not given if the void-of-course Moon occurs for a very short period or if it occurs during the night (based on same Eastern time zone).

* v/c = Void-of-Course - When the Moon is void-of-course, spend time working on projects already in progress, creative endeavors, or self-improvement. Void-of-course simply means that no planets are aspecting the Moon as it gets ready to change signs. It's best not to start new projects, sign important agreements, or go shopping when the Moon is void-of-course because the result will probably be unsatisfactory in some way.

** Mercury Retrograde - the speed of the planet slows down considerably. Communications, paperwork, electronics, and traffic can become very mixed-up or delayed during this time. A situation will be in the process of changing, so wait until Mercury is direct to finalize anything. In general, maintain a slower, more cautious pace in daily affairs. Always allow at least two days before (to slow down) and after (to resume regular activities) a Mercury retrograde period. Read More about Mercury Retrograde here

Looking for Healing Chant

Posted by: "Carol" hawkshill13@yahoo.com   hawkshill13

Where I used to live, I was invited to visit a local Coven on several occasions. One of the things they did was pass around paper and pen. Everyone was to write the name of someone in need of healing. These requests were then put in a jar. The members then began repeating a simple healing chant over and over while raising and directing energy toward the ones in need. For the life of me, I can't remember how this chant went now.
I was wondering if anyone knows a simple healing chant that can be used when one has a large number of healing requests. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Topic Tag--Charging for Magical Services

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Charging for Magical Services

Recently, we talked about the dispute in Romania in which witches are protesting a change in the country's laws. The new legislation qualifies witchcraft as a legal profession, which means practitioners can be taxed on their work. In a country where the average witch collects about $8 for her services, a 16% income tax could be fairly damaging for some folks. Over on the About Pagan/Wiccan Facebook! page, there's been some discussion about charging for services versus giving your talents as a gift.

Now, it's important to note that they are not being taxed for their religious views -- and in fact, most of Romania's witches are Christians. They're being taxed on the income they receive for services rendered -- spellwork, card reading, etc.

Anyway, I once had a discussion with someone who was troubled by the fact that she had to pay to attend a Tarot class. The cost was -- in my opinion -- reasonable, and I pointed out that the instructor was entitled to be compensated for her time, experience and knowledge. The student felt that the woman leading the class should be doing so out of love, and a willingness to share with the community.

No one tells doctors they should perform surgery for free. No one expects their hairdressers to give you a cut'n'style without collecting some money. Unless you're married to your mechanic, you probably have had to pay him or her to fix your car occasionally. Certainly, love is nice, but try offering it to your bank when it's time to make your mortgage payment. On the flip side, how much is too much? Could you make a living on the $7 - $10 the Romanian witches are able to collect? I know I couldn't.

Is it Okay to Charge for Services?

What do you all think? Is it okay to charge for services such as divination, classes, and so forth? It is unacceptable? Or does it depend on the amount and what you're getting for your investment?

Elder's Meditation of the Day

It's all spirit and it's all connected."

-- Grandfather William Commanda, ALGONQUIN

If everything is connected, we cannot disconnect. To disconnect is not a real choice. This is why we are always spiritual no matter what we do. Every alcoholic is spiritual. All our brothers and sisters are spiritual. We may not be behaving correctly, but nevertheless, we are spiritual. Our choice is to live out of harmony with spiritual ways or in harmony with spiritual ways. Everything is spiritual.

Great Spirit, give me the knowledge to be in harmony with the spirit today.

Internet Slang Dictionary and Translator

Today's feature was recommended by a subscriber who explains why he finds this site so valuable. "I talk to parents and teachers about online safety and this is one of the sites that I mention. It assists them in learning what the kids are chatting about." You'll find a Slang Translator for translating individual words, a Slang Dictionary for researching words and the important Netspeak Guide that give individuals who are not 'internet lingo savvy' access to articles and resources to help . . . further understand internet slang, online acronyms, net trends, and overall internet ettiquette.' This new lingo can be disconcerting for those of us who had to actually pass spelling tests! If you're a parent, be sure to watch for the words 'paw,' short for parents are watching or 'pos' for "parents over shoulder". As the webmaster states, "Can you think of a non-naughty use for that sentence? I cant."

The Magic of Hands

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sat Jan 29, 2011 11:23 pm (PST)

The Magic of Hands

Hands were the first magical tools. Long before the earliest spell
books were written, humans saw their hands as tools of power. With
them they changed their world, and change is the essence of magic.
In the earliest days of our species, hands were used to gather
and to prepare food, to create shelter, for making simple garments,
and to fashion tools of wood, bone, stone, and shell. Hands clasped
together during the beginnings of life, assisted during birth, struck
against flesh in combat, and laid the deceased to rest. Finally,
humans discovered they could use their hands to create fire. These
quite real changes were probably viewed as the products of what
we would term magic, for many of them were the sole province of
humans.
We can only speculate concerning the earliest spiritual and magical
beliefs and practices, for there certainly are no written records. Speculation is based on a study of symbolism and a comparison with early historic civilizations, as well as with pretechnological peoples of more recent times.

Hands had other uses as well. Though some now speculate that
early humans first communicated by telepathy, it seems possible
that hand signals were also used. Apart from their value in everyday
life (warning of danger, giving directions during hunts, passing
on rudimentary knowledge), the language of gestures probably
evolved specific signs reserved for religious and magical purposes.
Certain shapes created with the fingers may have promoted union
with spirit. Some were most probably magical in nature.
Thousands of years later, some of these early forms of communication
were specifically associated with religion. Some of these ritual gestures have been preserved and are still used in religions found throughout the world. The miraculous changes that could be created with hands drove humans to regard them as one of the most spiritual parts of the body. In the first great civilizations (Sumer, Egypt, Greece, and Rome), hands enjoyed both a secular and a sacred aura of power, and played important roles in religion. Sumerian images of worshippers were often carved with their hands held upward in supplication or clasped in humility. Wall paintings in Egyptian tombs depict deities holding ankhs, symbols of life in their hands. In reliefs of Ra (an Egyptian sun deity), the rays stemming from the solar orb terminate in small hands.

Pagan deities from around the world are often depicted holding
or clutching symbols of their powers (which are dispensed through
their hands). Some Hindu deities are equipped with multiple arms
and hands to symbolize the many powers and influences that these
deities possess. Even while hands were being used in religious capacities, they never lost their magical qualities. Hand-to-hand combat fostered the idea that hands were protective. Eventually, hands created symbols in their own images. Figures of hands were painted or carved and worn for protective purposes in ancient Egypt and Greece. All scuba divers are aware of the importance of gestures as a means of communication. Rome, Asia, and possibly South America. The powers of hands were transferred from flesh to bronze, stone, wood, clay, silver, and gold. For example, protective door knockers from ancient Pompeii were fashioned in the form of a hand grasping a ball. (Representations of hands are still worn today throughout the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America, as they have been since ancient Greek times.) As systems of magic evolved, hands became increasingly important: specific figures were drawn or traced, the hands were placed in certain postures, and ritual tools were carried and moved. Though many inner processes were at work during magical rituals, hands were viewed as the channels through which magical energy was released. Even today, hands haven't lost their power. Laying on of hands is a popular form of healing, in which the hands are used to transport energy into the sick. The age-old art of palmistry hasn't died out. Gestures of love (holding hands) and hate (in the United States, the upraised middle finger) still evoke powerful emotions. To symbolize the depth of our sincerity while swearing oaths, we raise a hand. Clasping hands upon meeting a friend is a social ritual in the West today, and is a survivor of the ancient ritual
demonstration of exhibiting weapon-free hands (and thus, of
friendly intentions).

We still wear betrothal, healing, and luck rings on our fingers,
perhaps with the unconscious hope that placing such special objects
on our fingers will strengthen their effectiveness. Some of us shake
hands with famous persons, hoping that luck will rub off. Business
transactions are often sealed with a ritual handshake. Semisecret
groups continue to utilize ritual handclaspings as a means of recognition, and, throughout the world, most of us earn our living by
using our hands. Religious use of the hands is also with us. Catholics trace the sign of the cross on their bodies during prayer, priests and ministers often lift a hand during prayer and supplication (as religious
persons have been doing since ancient Sumer), and Asians clap
before images of their deities during religious ritual. The wide range of unusual rituals and customs that we still perform with our hands hints at the magical potential contained within them. Our hands are far more than utilitarian objects: our palms and fingers are potent magical tools. Even several millennia of cultural and technological progress hasn't been able to fully exorcise this knowledge, as demonstrated by the above four paragraphs. Knowingly or unknowingly, we still affirm that hands are magical objects.

Magicians (those conversant with natural but little understood
transformative techniques) know that the human body produces
energy that can be used in magic. The hands are seen as conduits
through which this energy is sent from the body during magical
rites. And so, hands are truly magical tools. With their help we can
change our lives. Any creative act performed with the hands (writing
a letter, weaving a rug, building a house, or knitting a sweater)
can be an act of magic, if its done with the proper intent.
So, what, exactly, is magic? We discuss this subject at length in
chapter 3, but a few words are appropriate here. Magic is the
movement of natural (yet subtle) energies to create positive
change. Its an ancient art, rich with centuries of history and practice.
It isn't supernatural, evil, or dangerous. Many have found magic to be a technique that allows them to gain control over their lives; to transform them into happier, more positive experiences.

Spell craft is a special category of magic. It consists of the magical
creation of, and ritual use of, magical objects. When we make
such objects, were performing acts of magic, for were causing
transformations (the raw materials and energies within them) with
our hands. Magic can be a purely mental process, using no tools other than a trained mind. More often, though, it involves the use of specific
objects as focal points for concentration, such as candles, brooms,
and herbs. These objects are usually handled in ritual ways while
energy from within the body is sent into or through them.
This book describes many of these tools. Such objects, specifically
made for a specific magical act, can be quite effective. The tools described in this book are rarely available in stores, but you
can make them with your hands.

All hand-made objects contain a bit of energy. The process that
creates these objects is more than a simple repetition of techniques.
During the creation process the craftsperson, through concentration
and the physical activity involved, moves energy from within
the body, through the hands, and into the material being worked.
This is what sets it apart from other objects, and what readies it for
use in magic.

In magic, we have the opportunity to imbue our crafts with specific
energies: a loving relationship, increased money, protection
against harm, enhanced spirituality, a sense of peace, physical and
emotional purification, and psychic awareness. Today, many are seeking the spiritual dimension of our physical world. Though some of
us enjoy the increasingly complex manifestations of applied technology, were also searching for subtle explanations of the ways in
which we interact with nature. Were also eager to take control of our lives, to fill them with positive energy, to wash them clean of doubt, guilt, depression, poverty, and pain. Magic is a tool that can be used to do this, and the magic starts in our own hands.
The aim of magic isn't the domination of nature; its the domination
of ourselves. We can clasp magic as a tool of positive self-transformation. Spell craft is one aspect of this tool. Sewing beads,
weaving wheat, and creating magical brooms affirms, through
simple techniques and rituals, the powers within our hands and
their ability to shape our lives into nurturing, evolving experiences.
Look at your hands as they really are. See them as wondrous
vehicles of power, of the energy that flows through everything you
do. Tap into that power! Carve a symbol, dip a candle, mix fragrant
herbs, sculpt clay, and make your life all that you want it to be.
Create objects of magic and use them to transform your life into
a positive experience. In doing so you'll celebrate nature, your
hands and, ultimately, yourself.

How To Transport Yourself Into the Inner Realms

How To Transport Yourself Into the Inner Realms

Pathworking, as guided meditations are sometimes called, is a term
which comes to us through ceremonial magick. It is one of the most
potent tools we have for aligning ourselves with the energies of deities
and mythic figures. The term "pathworking" has been adopted by Pagans who define it as a guided journey into the inner-world, or universal/archetypal/astral plane, for the purpose of acquiring a lasting change in both the conscious and subconscious mind of the journeyer.

Pathworking, sometimes referred to as an "advanced" magickal
practice, is as old as the art of storytelling itself, an art highly
prized by the Celts. Their itinerant storytellers (called "seanachais")
have, by using these ancient myths, helped transport many persons into the inner-realms and back again without them knowing such a transformation ever occurred.

Pathworking allows us to stretch our personal power to the limit as
it gently massages our deep minds to stimulate meetings and
interactions with mythic figures, provoke creativity, aid in other astral
projection, facilitate past-life recall, energize spell work, open channels for divination, and many other endeavors of importance to seekers on any spiritual path.

Pathworking takes us from the personal to the universal because,
above all else, it forges a link between the conscious and
subconscious minds, allowing each access to the memories and capabilities of the other. This has benefits beyond the performance of magick and ritual. It has lasting effects, reaching far beyond the boundaries of the working itself into the everyday life of the journeyer.

After all, this is the place where the divine beings of the Celtic
pantheon can step out of the withered and yellowed pages of library
tomes to live and breathe, speak and hear, show and teach. Once you train your mind to send forth its consciousness to them, once you learn to roam freely and safely in the inner-realms, and once you learn to understand divine archetypes and the meanings they have for you, you can roam these worlds without aid of a guide and explore new ideas, meet new entities, and expand all your potential.

Archetypes are universal. They are defined by Funk and Wagnalls as
a "standard pattern" or a "prototype." Archetypes speak to us in an
ecumenical language. They are the images which cloud our dreams,
they are the inherent power of our deities, and they are the machinery which make tarot and all forms of divination possible. Archetypal images are used heavily throughout pathworking, for this is the only language our subconscious (sometimes called our super-conscious or deep mind) can understand, utilize, and with which it can communicate back to our conscious minds.

Put Your Fears To Rest

There are a lot of people, Pagans included, who have an unnatural
fear of altered states and especially of inner-world journeys.
Perhaps this is because it is strange and new, and they have been taught by someone in the larger mainstream society that it is evil. These fears are basically groundless.

If you want to get the feeling of a guided meditation before
attempting an actual pathworking, you can try tape recording a simple scene for yourself to practice with. A scenario which you live out every day is the best choice. Such simple exercises will not only help put aside your fears, but will help you begin to discipline your mind to prolonged concentration, and help you follow, without lagging behind the narration of a pathworking.

Some people also fear the creatures they meet in the inner-world.
While it cannot be over-emphasized that the inner-planes are in the
mind but are still a very real place, there is no more to fear there than there is in your own home. You must always be respectful of the deities and other beings you encounter on the inner-planes, but you should never fear them. Most of them are benevolent or, at worst, neutral to your presence. If you do encounter a being in whose presence you feel uncomfortable, simply move yourself slowly away from it.

Preparing for Pathworking

No elaborate preparations are needed to begin your pathworking
journeys, but, as with any magickal rituals, there are a few
preliminaries which are helpful.

It is best to start with journeys which are written from your own
physical gender point of view. If you are male, start with a
neutral or male-centered tale, and if you are female start with a neutral or female-centered tale. Neutral in this instance means a pathworking which is not written to be gender-specific, but uses non-gender oriented words when referring to the journeyer.

The two absolute requirements for pathworking are quiet and
privacy. You must not be disturbed. The effect of being jolted out of a journey will be like that of suddenly being awakened from a deep sleep and you will feel drowsy, disoriented, and grumpy.

Writing Your Own Journeys

The most powerful inner-journeys are the ones you create for
yourself out of your own needs and ever-evolving spiritual perspective. The elements of myths are a universal phenomena, enough so that anyone--even persons without so much as a drop of Celtic blood--can connect with, use, and understand the symbology of pathworkings using Celtic figures, and derive all the intended benefits from them. It was Carl Jung who first hypothesized that myths were based on human dreams and need-fulfilling fantasies, and since all human minds share a similar structure, this may account for the often spooky
similarities in mythic themes and events throughout the world. Therefore, it matters not if our personal mythic hero is the Greek Zeus or the quintessentially Celtic Cuchulain.

When you write your own journeys, make it easy on yourself by using
names which resonate with your consciousness. Since we all like
that which is familiar to us, it is possible, and even encouraged, that you substitute deity names, place names, etc., for the ones you may find in any myth according to your own tradition or inner-guide. For example, you may want to call Tir-na-Nog, the Irish Land of the Dead, by names such as "Summerland" or "Avalon."

The Beginning

If you do not have a method which you like for entering these inner-
realms, you can try the journeys given in "Celtic Myth & Magick."
Keep in mind that whatever method you choose to begin your pathworking should also be used for your returning. The conscious and subconscious minds seem to agree that this time-honored occult practice of "one way in, one way out," is the best way to proceed.
