Lodge,

Tomorrow is also the Birthday of "Old Dorothy Clutterbuck" the woman who initiated Gerald Gardener into the Craft. Now I know a lot of people challenge her historicity today, and why shouldn't they.

Why wouldn't a woman who was practicing an Oath Bound Spiritual Tradition that as illegal, in her time; not leave a cache of Papers, Diaries and Spells for curious scholars, and snooping policemen to find. What was she thinking.

We should not surrender our history, written or Oral simply because we must defend it in that face of the inevitable skepticism of Academia; I do not believe Wicca as a valid spiritual path began as a con perpetrated by a fraud; no I simply don't and while I cannot prove that to a skeptic, why should I surrender him the high ground, why should I say, well I cant prove this, and you cant prove your position, but you're the Skeptic so we will assume you must be right.

Look,
We will never get the Skeptics and Academics to accept the reality of a History they actively Do NOT WANT to be True; the best we can do is document our own history as accurately as possible, keep a careful ear out for genuine Critique and ignore the rest.
We as Pagans have a long, proud, Gnostic history,

And we should not surrender it to those who wrongly insist the world is spiritually flat.
We have an obligation to Dorothy and the rest of our spiritual forbearers to honor their legacy, and defend their reality.
