Bloody shamans - again!

Julian Assange has been cursed in a ritual by one particular group of Peruvian shamans, stomping on images of his face and holding aloft the American flag :

Bloody coke-heads, I tell you!

What's he ever done to them?

Two comments:

1. it may have something to do with their broadband access - if not necessarily the remarks from a US diplomat regarding their president.

2. The rite was set under a giant crucifix, so they don't strike me as being very "shamany" to start with.

In any case, I think that the world-spanning dark forces which Mr. Assange has faced on a daily basis - and triumphed over - for the past four years, would make any tasteless Peruvian tantrums of this kind pale into oblivion.

Nonetheless, it's perhaps worth sparing a protective thought for our fellow Aussie, bastard-crusher, and (imo) Logos of the coming century, in our daily litanies unto the spirits, eh?

Hmmm! A group of Peruvian shamans hey. They probably had their usual breakfast of goat shit sandwiches in their mud huts before cursing this guy who probably had a champagne breakfast in his penthouse suite.

Yeah lots of luck with the curse guys ( and gals, lets not be sexist about this). Seems his magic/mojo might actually run rings around your shamanic stuff don't you think?

Under a crucifix too no less! gee Guys and Gals of the shamanic bent, careful the bugger doesn't turn your curse back on you.. Your goat may suffer constipation and there will be no breakfast tomorrow.

Shamanic curses under crucifixes! Bah! Humbug! Twaddle if I've ever seen it....Bill.

Now Bill, CB - I'm sure I would be in total error, with my Vodoun sensibilities way off track, for ever thinking that this might sound like post-modern Westerners knowing what constitutes shamanism and what doesn't under The Great Universal Anthropological Definition of Shamanism (tm), binding on all cultures, including those subjected to colonialism that might have developed syncretic survival mechanisms.

Folk magic in Peru has adopted a lot of Christianity and to a certain
extent survives by clutching the Church's frock-tails. Gods and genii
loci conflate with or adopt the trappings of Catholic Sainthood. There
are powers outside the Church, but the cosmology adapts to the fairy
tales of Abraham's book and blends with it.

...Brock.
