Cher, I'm so glad to see the group site changed back to the original. It was a mess trying to read the messages with the other way. Many old posts were mixed in with new ones, if they had the same subject title to them, and it was frustrating to try and sort through them.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but this way is so much easier to read and to follow, and if it works, there is no reason to change it.

Thanks again!

Fw: DailyOM: Removing Obstructions

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

DailyOM - Allowing Our Light To Shine
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

January 13, 2011
Removing Obstructions
Allowing Our Light To Shine
When we don’t feel ourselves shining, we can tune inward to find the block that prevents us from shining our light.

There are times when we may not feel at our best and brightest. At those times we can take a look at what we might do to let our inner light shine to the fullest. Because we are physical, mental and spiritual beings, we need to determine where our spiritual light is being filtered or blocked. We can work from the outside inward, knowing that we are the only ones with the power to dim our lights, and as we clear away the layers we can get out of our own way to feel the warmth of our own light shining again.

As vehicles for our mind and spirit, our bodies require proper maintenance. Caring for ourselves is like polishing--helping to clear away the accumulation of physical debris that keeps us from operating at our fullest capacity. A simple shift in our thoughts can positively affect our mental state, moving from complaints to gratitude and applying the powerful light of love to any shadowy thoughts. A change of scenery can allow us to see the world in new ways too.

Once we are free of our restrictions, we can become still and connect to the power at the center of our being. It is always there for us, but when we forget to connect, or siphon our power in too many directions, we cannot make the most of our energy. Starting from the inside out may direct us to take the right steps for our journeys back to the light, but sometimes it can be difficult to find the stillness if our bodies and minds are in the way. As we practice steps to keep our energy flowing freely and without obstruction, we shine our light brightly, illuminating our own paths and making the world around us glow as well.

Get Ready for Imbolc!

Day 3: The Goddess Brighid
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
In many traditions of Paganism, the Celtic goddess Brighid is celebrated at Imbolc. A protector of hearth and home, Brighid is a fire goddess who is typically associated with poetry, smithcraft, and inspiration. She was especially honored when it came to matters of prophecy and divination. A sacred flame was maintained by a group of priestesses, and her sanctuary at Kildare became the home of a saint when Ireland converted to Christianity.
Brighid, Hearth Goddess of Ireland

In Irish legend, Brighid was the daughter of the Dagda, and was a goddess associated with domesticity and motherhood. However, later on she became connected to a nun called Brighid, who eventually became a saint. In her many aspects, Brighid has followers all over the Celtic lands...Read More

In tomorrow's lesson, we'll look at rituals for Imbolc. You'll also learn how to make Imbolc oil and incense to celebrate the season.

Get Ready for Imbolc!

Day 4: Ritual and Ceremony
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
At Imbolc, we're saying farewell to winter. We know that spring is approaching, but hasn't quite arrived yet. After all, Imbolc is the halfway point between Yule and Ostara. Take a moment to celebrate the end of winter's cold nights and gray skies, and think about the new life that will begin in a few weeks.
Candle Ritual for Solitaries

Hundreds of years ago, when our ancestors relied upon the sun as their only source of light, the end of winter was met with much celebration. Although it is still cold in February, often the sun shines brightly above us, and the skies are often crisp and clear. As a festival of light, Imbolc came to be called Candlemas. On this evening, when the sun has set once more, call it back by lighting the seven candles of this ritual. Although this ceremony is written for one, it can easily be adapted for a small group...Read More

Farewell to Winter Ritual

By Imbolc, we're all getting cabin fever -- it's cold, we're snowed in, and frankly, we're all a bit tired of winter. This simple ritual is a fun one to do with your family on a snowy day, but can also be performed by a single person. The best time to do it is when you have a fresh layer of snow on the ground, but if that's not possible, never fear. Find a big pile of snow to work in...Read More

Imbolc Oil

This magical oil can be used in Imbolc rituals and ceremonies. Blend it up in advance so you'll have it on hand for your February celebrations...Read More

Imbolc Incense

Make a batch of Imbolc incense that blends the scents of winter with those of the coming spring...Read More

Tomorrow: Saying Goodbye to Winter

In addition to today's Farewell to Winter ritual, there are other ways you can symbolically move out of winter and into spring. We'll talk about meditation, an Imbolc divination, and why so many people like a good spring cleaning!

If religion is based off of astrology then...?

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

If religion is based off of astrology then...?
Would the astrological zodiac
chart change impact the idea of certain religions? I know that for
approximately 3000 years, the astrological chart was set and many
religions (pagans) used astrology in their religion. Christian derived
from all types of religion: paganism is one them. Therefore, would the
idea of religion change because of the astrological chart change?

10 Spiritual Tools for Coping with Chronic Pain
By Maureen Pratt

Chronic pain can make us feel isolated and helpless, especially if its cause is an illness or physical condition for which there's no cure or effective medical treatment. At times of deepest despair, finding ways to nurture our spirits can help us not only cope with the pain, but also discover
nuggets of grace, comfort, and productivity that can move us through and beyond the helplessness and hopelessness we feel. Here are ten
spiritual tools that can help you get started toward peace in spite of
and in the midst of pain.

Maureen Pratt is a speaker and author who focuses on spirituality, faith and
wellness. Her most recent book is "Peace in the Storm: Meditations on
Chronic Pain & Illness" (Doubleday Religion). Her website is www.maureenpratt.com.

Chamomile Recipes

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Thu Jan 13, 2011 8:23 pm (PST)

Chamomile Recipes
.
Tea of Cheer and Joy
1/2 cup dried chamomile flowers
1/2 cup dried calendula petals
2 tablespoons grated lemon peel
1/4 cup dried peppermint
1 tablespoon whole cloves
honey to taste

Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container. To brew
use 1 1/2 tsp. of tea with 1 cup (8 ounces) boiling water. Steep for
3-5 minutes. Strain and sweeten with honey to taste.

Winter Afternoon Tea
1 tsp. dried chamomile
1 tsp. dried mint
1 tsp. dried lavender
honey

Combine the herbs in your warmed tea pot and add 2 cups boiling
water. Steep for 5 minutes and strain. Add 1 tsp. of honey to each
cup of tea.

Notes: I put together this simple mellow tea one winter afternoon. I
like it with the honey, but lemon would be fine too. This makes 2
cups of tea, but it can easily be doubled and tripled.

Makes 4 cups

Chamomile Shampoo
2 tsp.. dried chamomile
1/4 cup boiling water
1/4 cup baby shampoo (or another mild variety)

Pour the boiling water over the chamomile and steep for 30 minutes,
strain, then mix into the shampoo and use as usual.

Chamomile Hair Conditioner
1/3 cup chamomile flowers
1/3 cup olive, safflower or sunflower oil
Clean jar with lid

Combine the chamomile and oil in a jar with a lid. Place on a sunny
windowsill and shake the jar at once a day. After two weeks, strain
out the herbs. To apply, use about 2-4 teaspoons, depending on the
length of your hair. Brush out your hair and apply to the hair ends,
avoiding the scalp. Leave on about ten minutes, then shampoo out.

Chamomile Hair Rinse
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp. chamomile flowers

Pour the water over the chamomile; steep until it cools to lukewarm.
Strain out the flowers. This will soothe your scalp. To use pour over
your hair as a rinse after shampooing.

Herbal Foot Soak
2 ounces mixed fresh herbs-peppermint, rosemary, chamomile
4 cups boiling water
1 tablespoon borax
1 tablespoon Epsom salts

Roughly chop the herbs. Put in a bowl, pour in boiling water. Let
stand 1 hour; strain. Place the "tea" water into a tub or bowl large
enough to hold both feet and another 6-7 cups of warm water. Stir in
borax and Epsom salts.

Soak feet 15 to 20 minutes. Add hot water if needed to keep the
temperature as warm as desired. Afterwards use a good lotion and
place cotton socks on your feet for the evening!

Homeric Hymn to Athena

Gray-eyed one, I sing of you, wiser and most beautiful,
relentless Athena, protector of cities, strong-armed and
fair. From his head the great god birthed you, dressed
in golden armour and bearing a sharp spear. The holy
mountains shook when you were born, and the earth
quaked, and the sea's dark waves broke against the land.
Even the sun stopped in astonishment at this sight, this
goddess, fresh-born and strong. Hail to you, Athena,
may I never live without this shield of your protection.
~Homeric Hymn to Athena

To the Greeks, the
Great Goddess Athena was the warrior who protected their city. Born in a lightning flash, a miraculous child wearing armour even at birth, she
was also the Goddess of wisdom, whose owl-eyes saw truth, wherever it
might be hidden..

There is good reason
for Athena to represent both wisdom and defense. For we need wisdom to
know when to defend ourselves and when to let down our defenses. We must not walk through this world unprotected, for there are those who would
steal our energy, our hearts, our time, our possessions. We need to
armour ourselves against such thieves and robbers. But we cannot wear
armour all the time. There are times we must share: ourselves, our good
fortune, our ideas, and our hearts.

Athena's wisdom tells
us when its safe to unbuckle the armour and remove the helmet. She is
also the armour itself, protecting us when we need it. To live in her
image is to live fully but safely, to be generous but not exhausted, to
have enough both for ourselves and to share with those who merit it.

Wow what a question? Many of the very thought people (neo-pagan, Christian and otherwise) have spend gobbs of time on that very idea.

In fact, the names and stories are subject to change according the needs of the religion being promoted, contrary wide, early neopagans observed that it is the same universe, no mater where or when you observe it. Yeah verily, although the Levites admonished believers not to listen to astrolgers, they still built their temple according to astronomical observation and events. It has become clear that Hellenized Jews were surly star gazers, whether or not they read horoscopes.
Solomans temple and the Pantheon were each known as calenderical structures before Stone henge was puzzled out. The modern advanced investigators didn't give the primitives credit for understanding. Don't we notice how the jewish, muslem, Chinese and Calogny calenders has so much in common? All based on observing the same universe doing its own thing, without our help.

Most of us modern urbanites don't properly grok the precession, or Ptomely's calender at all, or that the zodiac is classical, not ancient. Indeed, astrology as we know it in the west grew up along side Christianity, and alas, suffered similar misinterpretations along the way.

Many moons ago, I met a reader in Honolulu, who worked on the street off a portable stand. He called himself the Merry Mystic, and he used the "Aquarian Tarrot" He claimed his cards were brought up to date and reflected correspondences in line with the proper houses as they stand today. At the time, I had no Idea what he meant by that.
This article is highly condensed, but not a bad place to start. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zodiac

At least the 2012 phenomenon has got people thinking about our calender, and the way it has evolved over a few thousand years.
