Somebody from another group has a picture of a goddess, standing with two lions under her feet, and an owl on either side. he said she has talons on her feet though i couldn't see them. she stands very tall and straight, with wings. Does anybody have an idea which mythical figure she might be?

Thanks

Zahir

Zahir,
The owl was sacred to (amoung other goddess') Athena. It stood for her great knowledge and wisdom. Greek.
There is a Lion goddess known as Sekhmet. However, she is usually depicted with the face of a lion and wearing a sun disc upon her head. Egyptian. Bastet is also refered to as a lion goddess.
Nike is a goddess of victory  and strength who has wings. Greek.

Is it possible to post the picture, at all?! I don't know if that's helped at all!?

Originally I was going to say Cybele because of the two lions but with all the other features I would have to say otherwise. It does sound somewhat Mesopotanian or Babylonian.

Hi Zahir,

There is a Goddess Lilith who was shown with two lions and two owls at her
feet.  She was the handmaiden of Inanna and would bring men to the temple for
initiation into the sacred rights.

What's Left From Our Journey

This morning the thought came to mind about our footprints … or more
so the footprints we leave behind us as we journey through life.

Take some time now to look back at the footprints you have already left
and think on how you would like to leave your future footprints.

This is not about correcting wrongs or even correcting past mistakes..
it's about growing and becoming our own personal best.

It's about being responsible in our actions and in all ways that we
live.

Many Blessings,

Mauve,
There's the Wiccan Sabbat of Imbolc coming up-depending on where your located and the callendar you go by ( Gregorian-also known as the western callendar) will deter the date of the occassion. In the Northern hemisphere, it's usually celebrated on the 2nd Feb. It gets a bit confusing if you get too much into detail and start worrying about that kinda thing. Southern hemisphere celebrates....well I actually forget, cause I celebrate on Feb2nd.
If you wanna know more about Northern/southern hemisphere celebrations and stuff, I really recommend reading Way of wicca by Vivianne Crowley-publishers=thorsons element books.

Imbolc is also refered to as St. Brigit's day. A scottish/gaelic proverb about the day-

"The Serpent will come from the hole,
On the brown day of Bride,
Thought there should be three feet of snow,
On the flat surface on the ground".

It's a fire festival. A celebration of the warming of the earth from harsh winters'. One of 4 fire festivals; you might wanna look up " wheel of the year". A time for beginnings/initiations.

Goddess association with this day: Bridgit. Also the maiden/mother phase of the goddess, bringing things to nurture/being.

Some belief's place Imbolc on the 1st and candlemas on the 2nd Feb.
Life is celebrated as it is at this time when life beings to stir again- Earth thaws-kinda like a chicken! :)
In the home, you may want to get rid of unwanted goods/clutter. In preparation for all things new. A time of purification.

Imbolc translates as 'In the belly'. Symbolically, a stirring of Earth's womb. A time for fresh starts and new beginnings!

Remember when celebrating=to relax, you should not have to worry about what you have to get done or what your celebrations should be! What do you like to do in magic? think about it?! You could have a tea-party gathering where your friends bring drinks or cakes for after any rituals or spells. This is to ground your energies afterward. I'd suggest maybe looking on google/ask about groundings-then you'll know what you can make for yourself-bananas believe it or not can also be eaten after ritual as they are high in potasium.  You don't have to use 'high' magick on your first sabbat-if it is your first sabbat, either way..... you could read each other's tarot, or you could read there's=a way of looking to the future and asking about any new beginnings.
You could have a spring house clean and develop that into a ritual afterwards.......
Lighting lots of candles is another way to celebrate, you could cleanse your tools or charge them for future use!
You could make some goals for the future!
Well, I don't know much about Druidry, I follow Wicca, but that's as close to nature as you might find.
If there's going to be more than one of you, you could all walk into your garden on Imbolc, be close and one with nature and have a 'drawing down the moon' ritual, or you could create a coven if there's 4 of you. Or you could call the watchtowers if there are 4 of you.

If you'd like, as I now have more time on my hands....let me know if you'd like a sample ritual/spell work for Imbolc, and I'll let you know how I used to celebrate.

Recommended books-
definately way of wicca-as mentioned above and 'the witche's almanac' by Marie Bruce. I love her books-in the Almanac's she has rituals and spells, bits about moon phases for each day and basic info on gods, correspondances, months, etc.

Hope this helps :)
-Jess
BB, have a great Sabbat!

Thank you! I am sorry to confuse you. Like I said I am quite new to all this. I
started studying about 7 years ago and had my family talk me out of it, sayin
that that was not really what I wanted to just try to be something else. Well I
did now I am getting back to my heart. So all the help and assistance you can
provide would be excellent.

Blessed Be,
Mauve

Greeting Mauve,

That Sabbat would be Imbolc or Candlemas that's coming up, February 2nd for a
Fixed Date or February 3rd for the 2011 Astrological Date. If you're in the
Northern Hemisphere.

If you're Southern, that will be Lughnasad or Lammas on Feb 2nd or Feb 4th for
either Fixed or Astrological Dates.

You could do a search on-line to see what you can find regarding Imbolc
celebrations. I also over the course a couple weeks before a Sabbat or Equinox
arrives (in regards to the Northern Hemisphere), try to post some (what I hope)
will be useful and helpful information.

Off the top of my head, I know they're from Llewellyn, but there is a Candlemas
Book by Amber K & Azrael Arynn K, there's also a couple of other Sabbat books
that are okay for a beginner to look into. Lammas by Anna Franklin & Paul Mason.

That you said Wiccan Sabbat and that you want to keep it close to Druidism does
confuse me a bit. Because while at a glance they -appear- to be similiar,
they're actually different paths and traditions of religion and/or magic. Again,
that's something I'd have to invite you to put in a search for and see what you
find.

If you're eclectic then alright if you're choosing to mix & match, blend,
borrow, take and so on. But hopefully any articles I'm posting on Imbolc may be
of help or guide you along to what it is you're seeking.

Syalla Mauve. I am not Wiccan and I am not sure if it is only Wiccan traditions you are looking for but I would be happy to send you some of the traditions my grove hold for Kalunembra "Candlemas." Mind you being we are not Wiccan, the holiday for us does not in any shape or form hold the same meaning. In no particular order here are some elements of of celebration:

1) Hanging of wreaths and garlands decorated in fake icicles and decorations of White, Blue and purple.

2) Torch and Candle Dances around a central fire.

3) Bundles of pine sticks wrapped together and hung in windows and on each side of doors to bring luck. Wrapped in yarn fillets opf white blue and purple

4) Leaving a candle burning all night in window in remembrance of once ancestors

5) Decorating one HUGE wreath with wood carved figures of deer and wolves, represnting The Lord and Lady, Like a Yule wreath it can have lights in it with crystals and bulbs of white silver, blue and purple, Even snowflakes.

6) Cake decorated in colors of white, blue and purple

7) Meditations on the meaning of winter. walking down a snowy path in the deep wild

8) Exchanging of gifts like quilts, gloves/mittens, crystals, fur pelts, glass ware, wooden figurines, food, wine and home-made candles.

9) Ornaments hung about made of twisted straw and long straw braids

10) Decorated egg orniments. (Normally this is reserved for Ostara and easter but in our faith, this is the night the Earth mother conceives our lord, the egg represents that conception. We gave a huge egg made from sugar-frosted string; we cut a hole in the center, fill it up with some straw and place inside a image of our lord as a baby, sorta like a christian nativity.  About this we each place a small votive candle and leave a prayer. Again this sounds more Ostara for some but we are not celebrating the Lord's birth on Candlemas but his conseption. Big difference.

11) Spicy foods to bring warmth in the body and hope to help kill infection. A spice cake is great

12) Candle Magick spell casting

13) Cleaning and cleansing of ovens, microwaves and fireplaces. Then rededication of them to the hearth goddess.

14) Tying  3 pinecomes together and from them have long ribbons hanging down of purple white and blue. Everyone can make their own, empowering them with blessings and hang them about the celebration area.

Hope some of this helps. Even if it gives you some ideas to tweek about for your own celebrations.

Later Days

Merry Meet! I am fairly new to Wicca. I know that there is a Wicccan Sabbot coming up and was wondering if any one could help me put together a little celebration for 1-3 people. I am not exactly sure what all I am suppose to do so some help is greatly appreciated. And for some insight for any one that chooses to help me, I want to stay as close to Druidism as possible, as in as close to natural magick and etc.

Thanks To You All!

I am not of course mentioning Jesus Christ!   For I am not a Christain!  Long time ago the Gods themselves came amongst us!  The one was Odin himself.

Long time ago this person appeared out of no-where!  He told me "Do not worry I came not to judge you but to help you!"  I now have the same message but this time I need help!  I became a outcast when I actually cared what went around me!  I later became a guardian because I also protected others.  This later caused me to leave my own kind behind and working with the Gods.  They wanted a outside one who would stand up to them when they was wrong.  One that would also do anything to stop one of them if they was wrong!  This earned me the status of being called a Great Destroyer!  One who stood up for what was right no matter what the cost!  This life it cost me the love of a woman.  It cost my human brother and his girlfriend their lives!  When is doing right no matter how hard it is too much?  Ed

I had a dream where my great grandfather on my moms side came to me! It seems I

am keeping him from crossing over! He came oringinally from a oil rich family.

They disowned him after he married a Cheyenne woman. He later became Catholic!

He rebuilt his fortune! His daughter married a divorced window washer and got
disinherited! She later drank herself to death! She lived till her 30's.
Should I forgive him? I said only if he undoes what his disowning his daughter
did. It cost me the name of my great grandmother and her heritage! Ed
