Daily Feng Shui Tip

Daily Feng Shui Tip by Ellen Whitehurst for Monday, June 6

I'm going to take a few liberties with today's 'National Gardening Exercise Day' since I'm sure that these energies are not asking us to put on our running shoes and go for a power walk with the peonies and petunias. Instead, I want to invoke another national treasure from the garden and share an exercise that I know you will love. First, let's examine floral Feng Shui picked straight from the garden. I'm referring to the powerfully passionate and sensual rose, a bloom that has long been associated with amour as well as with adding sultry and seductive desire to any environment. Apparently a rose by any other name still says 'I love you' no matter what language is being used. This philosophy says that putting a pair of pink roses (thorns removed) in a white vase on the bedside table or nightstand on the side that you sleep on and replacing them every three days with two new and fresh florals for a total of nine consecutive days will bring you the love of your life, a perfect partner who will never leave. This cure can even enhance and spice up an existing relationship. A traditional expression of love and romance, according to the secret Shui, roses also represent a beautiful and loving romantic relationship growing roots and expanding over coming days, months and years! Sure smells sweet to me!

The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

Love Each Day,
Lady Nightshayde

Three Planets in Retrograde

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

With Saturn retrograde in Libra, Neptune Regrograde in Pisces, and Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn, personal and business issues seem to have come to a grinding halt. This just emphasizes what the phrase 'As above, so below' means.

Please remind me, how long has this been going on?  Is this why I've been having so much drama (It started the end of April!) with my business and finding space to practice in?  Good Grief!  Please tell me this will end SOON!

Amye

Amye, retrograde planets can wreak havoc in our lives. If we know ahead of time when these events will occur, we can anticipate problems and become aware of how we can work with these retrogrades. The planets I mentioned--Saturn, Pluto, and Neptune, and especially Mercury, are the planet retrogrades that I have the most trouble with (especially Mercury, since Mercury rules Gemini, and I have a Gemini Moon).

The retrogrades can absolutely have an affect on the issues you mentioned. Take a look below at the retrograde dates, and learn all you can about these periods. Then you won't be blindsided when they happen. You can get a birthchart free at www.astrology.com, and take a look to see if there were any planets retrograde at your time of birth.

Retrograde Planets
Retrograde Planetary Cycles: 2011
This article explains retrograde motion and outlines the retrograde periods for the planets as they dance through our cosmos in 2011. There are links to our main retrograde motion articles, which cover the actual meanings of the retrograde phases of the personal planets, as well as the effects of the annual movement of the two Great Chronocrators, Jupiter and Saturn.
A planet is described as retrograde when it appears to be moving backwards through the zodiac. This traditional concept arises in the illusory planetary motion created by the orbital rotation of the earth, with relation to other planets in our solar system. It's a bit like travelling on the road watching another car beside you: when the other car slows down, or you speed up, it looks as though the other car is moving backwards. So planets are never actually retrograde or stationary, they just seem that way, due to this optical illusion. Click here for more on the science of retrograde planetary motion.
Retrograde periods, although often problematic for us earthlings, are not particularly uncommon. Each planet retrogrades, except the Sun and Moon.As a rule, retrograde planets presage a period of seemingly inevitable or fated events, which relate to their sphere of influence. In particular, issues from the past that have not been resolved tend to reappear in order to demand resolution, so we can move on. Retro phases also present us with a series of events over which we seem to have little or no control, relating especially to the sign in which the retrogradation occurs. For example, transiting Jupiter retrograde in Aries presents quite different sets of circumstances from those generated when it retrogrades into Pisces.

Planetary Stations
A retrograde period is best seen as a cycle, which begins when the planet begins to slow to a halt before travelling backwards through the zodiac and ends when the planet returns to the point where it first paused. However, during the cycle, the planet's energy is most powerful (and more likely to generate critical events of universal importance) when the planet makes a station, appearing motionless in the sky. These stationary periods occur at the beginning of the cycle (when the planet first halts as it prepares to move backwards) and midway through the cycle when the retrograde planet slows to a stop before moving forward again.
The planetary direct station (when the retrograde planet seems to halt before moving forward through the zodiac again) is a time of significant power when matters to do with the energies of the planet, house and sign can be favourably activated. The few days either side of this time are ideal for making or implementing decisions in the nature of the planet, sign and house concerned. In particular, the stations of Jupiter and Saturn are important with regard to longer term intentions.
Remember that the outer planets turn retrograde every year for quite some months, so it is not at all unusual to have one or more of them retrograde in one's own personal chart. This is not necessarily unfortunate and the key issues of destiny in such a case depend largely upon the aspects to the retrograde outer planets from the inner personal planets and points.

Current Retrograde Movements
Mercury usually turns retrograde three times a year. Click for more.

Venus retrogrades every eighteen months, so there is no Venus retrograde phase in 2011. Click for more.

Mars turns retrograde only once every two years, so no Mars retrograde phase in 2011. Click for more.

Ceres from July 26, 2011 until November 6, 2011.

Jupiter from August 30, 2011 until December 25, 2011. Click for more.

Saturn from January 26, 2011 until June 13, 2011.

Chiron from June 8, 2011 until November 10, 2011.

Uranus from July 10, 2011 until December 10, 2011. Uranus in Aries

Neptune from June 3, 2011 until November 9, 2011. Neptune in Aquarius

Pluto from April 9, 2011 until September 16, 2011. Pluto in Capricorn
Note:
The Moon's North and South Nodes (the Dragon's Head and Tail) are normally retrograde in their movement through the zodiac. The Nodes are not actual planets, but rather sensitive points, or "shadow planets" that have a powerful influence comparable with planetary strength. The True Node from time to time turns direct in motion for a few days, due to the phenomenon known as the Moon Wobble; such direct periods are generally considered unfortunate. The Mean Node is always retrograde, as the "Wobble" is averaged out for convenience. Read more about the Moon's Nodes.

Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

Evolution of The Soul
Life Lessons through Reincarnation

Often we reincarnate on earth with our soul family and often our most intense relationships are with our soul family.

You meet someone for the first time and feel as if you know them already. You're in a town that you've never been to before, yet you recognize streets and buildings. You start playing a new sport and amaze everyone, including yourself, at your natural abilities and intuitive knowing of the rules. We often describe such experiences as déjŕ vu: the experience or feeling that a new situation has happened to us before. Then again, the possibility does exist that we have actually lived these experiences in the past or, rather, in another lifetime.

Many spiritual practices believe that reincarnation is real: Our souls return to this earth over a series of lifetimes to evolve, learn, grow, transform, and become more spiritually attuned through the course of each life. When we reincarnate, it is believed that we tend to cycle through our different lives with many of the same people. Often these traveling "soul" companions are the ones we enter into relationships with; we work through our unresolved issues together so that we may heal. When we struggle or keep encountering blocks that keep us from reaching our goals, there may be a specific lesson that we are supposed to learn in this lifetime. Being naturally blessed with a musical talent or another gift can be a special ability that you worked hard to develop in a past life. You may even have lived before as another gender or as part of a different social or economic class. Each lifetime brings with it specific lessons that are necessary for our
spiritual evolution.
Past life recall can give us valuable insights into our past, present, and future lives. The knowledge of how we lived before can help us overcome present obstacles, understand phobias, and resolve relationship issues. There are workshops you can take to learn about past lives, and past life regression therapists can guide you on your journey backward in time. You can learn to visit your past lives through your dreams, meditation, and trance work. It is even possible to see full scenes of a former lifetime flash before you in your mind's eye as if you were watching a movie. While looking back at your past lives can be exciting and enlightening, it is important to remember that the answers you are seeking to this life can only truly be found by living this one. Look to your past to see where you've been, but remember that the life that matters most is the one that you are living now.

A mourning notice...

Posted by: "Jay" bareshark1975@yahoo.com   bareshark1975

Mon Jun 6, 2011 7:39 pm (PDT)

My housemate, Rhiannon Nokomis, the person most responsible for pointing and encouraging me on my path, has lost someone very dear to her this night. Shadow, her cat of 16 years, died in her arms three hours ago. He had been brought and drained dry by a swarm of fleas that had been draining for weeks. I went to get the medicine that might have saved him a week ago. Being on unemployment is full of unpleasant choices that are too ugly to contemplate.

We take him to a spot where he will be buried tomorrow. Tonight and for some days to come, we will be a house in mourning. Please send any prayers and healing energy that you can to us. Rhi is all but inconsolable. Thank you for listening.

My heart goes out to your family. having gone through the same with two of
my cats a few years ago, I know it is one of the most difficult times in life.
I hope that she will be able to find comfort knowing that Shadow is no longer in
pain. When we cannot do everything we want to for the animals in our lives, it
is hard to leave behind the guilt that plagues us, however, remember the love
that has been shared, and try to keep from tarnishing the good memories.

Shadow holds nothing against you or her, and she understands what happened.
Surely the Goddess, who explains all that has happened to us, has welcomed and
explained everything to Shadow. I hope she can find peace is the knowledge that
Shadow will be waiting to welcome her when it is her time to pass on, and that
Shadow is spending her time chasing mice and other friends. I know that Tigger
and Fuzzy will be happy to let Shadow into their group.

Many Blessings, and may comfort come quickly,
Ladyscorpio

Practicing Your Tarot Reading Skills

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Jun 6, 2011 11:17 pm (PDT)

Practicing Your Tarot Reading Skills

Once you've become more familiar with your chosen deck you'll probably be eager to start doing your own readings. From now on it's going to be a case of practice makes perfect; the more readings you do the easier it will become.
Start with an easy spread, the Celtic Cross is a great beginners spread and is still used by many seasoned Tarot readers – the Celtic Cross is a classic. Shuffle and and deal yourself a spread daily, refer to your card reference for each card you lay.

As the days and weeks pass; you'll probably notice that you see some cards more than others. You may even find it a little spooky how often the same cards come back, and in exactly the same position and combination too. These cards are probably very relevant to a particular situation that you find yourself in now or reflect a future outcome based on the path you're currently following.

Identifying with a card on a personal level like that, really helps to understand the essence of the card. After all, reading Tarot cards is not just about memorising the meanings; the idea is allow the card to trigger your intuition.
As you get more experienced and familiar with the spread you might want to practice on a few patient friends. Eventually you'll find yourself saying things that you didn't read in reference guide. Instead you'll be elaborating on situations that you know nothing about. The words will just tumble out.

Although the fundamental meanings to the cards will always remain the same; the translation to a client can vary dramatically from reader to reader and also from client to client. On my own personal learning journey, I found that one day it all just clicked , I suddenly stopped thinking about the cards and the translations and started to 'feel' the cards instead. I also read as much about Tarot as I could find, talking to other more experienced readers was also invaluable learning.

You could even book yourself in with a professional and study the cards laid out, try to understand why the reader is interpreting them the way she is. You can gain more insight if you experience another take on things.
As your confidence grows you may even want to to design your own spread, that way you can determine your own meanings for the positions in the spread.

To become a fluent and confident Tarot reader you have to learn to relate many sources of information and deliver an interpretation that makes sense to the client. The main factors to consider are the symbolism and meaning of the card, it's position in the spread and the combination and relation to other cards in the spread. I'll be discussing Tarot card combinations in a future post.

One of the most important things to remember is to trust your Tarot cards, if you doubt what they say then others will doubt you. Read with conviction and confidence, even if what you see doesn't make any logical sense – these things can often make perfect sense in the near future much to everyone's surprise.
Enjoy your journey!

Judge Yourself

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Jun 6, 2011 11:20 pm (PDT)

Once upon a time there was a painter who had just completed his course. He took 3 days and painted beautiful scenery. He wanted people's opinion about his caliber and painting skills.

He put his creation at a busy street-crossing. And just down below a board which read -"I have painted this piece. Since I'm new to this profession I might have committed some mistakes in my strokes etc. Please put a cross wherever you see a mistake."

While he came back in the evening to collect his painting he was completely shattered to see that whole canvass was filled with Xs (crosses) and some people had even written their comments on the painting.

Disheartened and broken completely he ran to his master's place and burst into tears.

This young artist was breathing heavily and master heard him saying"I'm useless and if this is what I have learnt to paint I'm not worth becoming a painter. People have rejected me completely. I feel like dying"

Master smiled and suggested "My Son, I will prove that you are a great artist and have learnt flawless painting. Do as I say without questioning it. It WILL work."

Young artist reluctantly agreed and two days later early morning he presented a replica of his earlier painting to his master. Master took that gracefully and smiled.

"Come with me." master said.

They reached the same street-square early morning and displayed the same painting exactly at the same place. Now master took out another board which read -"Gentlemen, I have painted this piece. Since I'm new to this profession I might have committed some mistakes in my strokes etc. I have put a box with colors and brushes just below. Please do a favor. If you see a mistake, kindly pick up the brush and correct it."

Master and disciple walked back home.

They both visited the place same evening. Young painter was surprised to see that actually there was not a single correction done so far. Next day again they visited and found painting remained untouched. They say the painting was kept there for a month for no correction came in!

Moral of the story:

It is easier to criticize, but DIFFICULT TO IMPROVE!

So don't get carried away or judge yourself by someone else's criticism and feel depressed...

JUDGE YOURSELF! YOU ARE YOUR BEST JUDGE!!!

Working With Elementals: First Principles

Working With Elementals: First Principles

To begin at the beginning, I should explain what elementals are.
Many legends exist about elementals, their natures, their purpose, and
their interactions with humankind. But according to various traditions, these beings belong to the four magical elements of earth, air, fire, and water. Elementals dwell in the elements as humans dwell on Earth; they spring from them as we spring from the chemical elements of Earth. The traditional names given to elementals are salamanders (fire), undines (water), sylphs (air), and gnomes (earth).

Magical traditions teach that elementals are collective beings. They
do not have individual souls, and are in the process of acquiring individual personalities. Elementals are not truly capable of independent choice and are guided from the higher consciousness of elemental kings, who are in effect the collective intelligence of their respective peoples. Traditionally, Djinn is named as the king of the salamanders; Paralda, of the sylphs; Nichsa, of the undines; and Ghob, of the gnomes. Above the four elemental kings are the four archangels of the elements: Raphael, of air; Gabriel, of water; Michael, of fire; and Auriel, of earth. Above these is the divine.

Elementals can also receive guidance from human beings who interact
with them. According to several sources, they can even acquire individual souls through prolonged work with humans. Collectively, elementals are a younger sibling to the human race. This is partly why we can exercise influence over them and affect their development. This is also why we have a measure of responsibility toward elementals. Any contact made with them must be made with this in mind.

When contacting elementals, recall that their essential natures are
bound in their elements, and they should be treated accordingly. The ways in which elementals of different types interact with us and with each other relate directly to their natures. Some accounts take descriptions of elemental natures to extremes, claiming that sylphs and gnomes are incompatible with each other, and likewise salamanders and undines. But this is a limited view. Fire and water, earth and air exist not in enmity but in polarity. The interactions between polarizing pairs are not always harmonious to human perceptions, but they are always balanced. The marriage of fire and water is, after all, one of the great secrets of alchemy.

Magically, working directly with elementals provides for humans a
depth and richness that no other practice can match. The elementals are perfect guides to their realms. Furthermore, elementals generally do benefit by working with human beings in an unforced relationship. Bound servitude is not good for them, any more than it is for us, but in a voluntary partnership elementals thrive. It can speed their collective evolution, and sometimes lead to the development of souls in individual elementals. Over a period of time, elementals may evolve into fully individual ensouled beings.

Humans also benefit by working with elementals. That is, we have
much to learn from contact with the elements themselves and from the process of achieving balance that results when we work with all four elements in turn. Many people grow and change positively through their contact with elementals. They may have increased sensory awareness, sharpened perceptions of the natural world, greater understanding of energy patterns and flows, and a wider knowledge of the magical realms. Thus both sides gain when humans and elementals develop a working relationship on both sides.

Wassail

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Jun 6, 2011 11:27 pm (PDT)

Wassail

Good luck to the hoof and horn,
Good luck to the flock and fleece,
Good luck to the growers of corn,
With blessings of plenty and peace.

From the pre-Christian agrarian orchards of England comes a fertility festival celebration known today as wassail that occurs in the season of the waxing Sun. A corruption of the old Saxon words "waes hael," we understand wassail to mean "be healthy" or "be whole," and today the term survives as a toast that indicates "to your good health."

Back in old England, winter rituals were designed to ensure the fertility of crops and encourage the return of the life-giving Sun. Therefore, on a cold crisp night in January with the stars twinkling overhead, farmers and their friends would move through the fields, shouting in loud voices and making merry with lighted torches, drums, and other noisemakers. Sometimes, the farmers also brought sticks or shotguns and threw or shot them skyward, filling the night with missiles.

Inevitably during the celebration, someone would bring out a hot bowl filled with steaming drink, taking care not to spill a drop. This prized bowl itself had handles on each side and was stored with honor during the rest of the year. Called the wassail bowl, it was brought out from the cupboard on this night for this single purpose.

The merrymakers would wend their way through the orchards to the oldest or largest tree. Using their sticks, they would beat the trunk of the tree or flail at any attainable branches. In time, someone would make a speech reminding the tree of past glories and the quantity and size of the fruit. The other revelers would chant to inspire the tree to greater fruitfulness in the coming season.

This ritual is traditionally celebrated on Twelfth Night (January 5), which, of course, is twelve days after Christmas, although some people used the old Gregorian calendar and celebrated it on January 17.

The timing of this holiday is intended to act as an end to the wild chaos, when the Otherworld ruled the human realm. These are dark and dangerous days, when the returning Sun is still unstable and may stay lost to the night forever. It's necessary to encourage the Sun to make a strong stand in the sky, warm the awakening trees to encourage a full and healthy crop, and help return the earth to a midwinter normalcy where no evil demons can walk the night.

Awakening the fruit trees, apple and pear, from their winter sleep is a serious job for the orchardist. It's not the orchards that produce table fruit that merit this attention, but more importantly, it's the trees that provide the fruit for holiday cider and perry!

Blow now, bear well,
Spring well in April,
Every sprig and every spray
Bear a bushel of apples against
Next New Year's Day.

Participants in wassail will discharge their shotgun into the branches. This will not only serve to awaken the sap in the trees, but will also dispel any evil spirits still lurking there. They will blow whistles and pound on small drums.

Meanwhile, they will pass the wassail bowl among themselves to provide encouragement on this cold crisp night and to keep their energy high. Often the participants will share their wassail bowl with the tree, along with offerings of bread and fruit and cheese. Sometimes a small boy is placed in the branches to receive these offerings for the orchard.

With their breath and the bowl steaming, the wassailers raise their voices in a chant to the trees:

Old apple tree, old apple tree
We've come to wassail thee.
Stand fast root. Bear well top.
Pray God send us a howling good crop.

Every twig, apples big
Every bow, apples enow.
Hats full, caps full, three bushel bags full
Barn floors full and my pockets full too!
And a little heap under the stairs.

The wassail bowl is filled with a traditional drink called Lamb's Wool. It's made simply of old (or new, if necessary) ale that is spiced with nutmeg, cloves, and ginger; it is then heated, along with sugar and beaten eggs or cream, and served with roasted apples floating on top. The name Lamb's Wool comes from the appearance of these split apples softly bobbing on the surface of the drink.

The oldest known written recipe for Lamb's Wool comes from the English court of Charles 1. It has lasted virtually unchanged into this decade (see below). In ancient times the ale was actually a mead ale; that is, the mead was fermented with hops. The bowl itself was as big as a punch bowl and called a mazer. It was handed down from father to son and considered a prized family heirloom.

After exhorting the trees and before leaving the orchard, the participants must bow to the tree and thank it for all its hard work. These wassailers can be content that they have done their part to restore safe nights, longer days, and a bounteous harvest.

There are other traditions that have evolved from these rituals and have become part of the Twelfth Night celebrations. In some cases, the wassail bowl is carried through the streets by merrymakers who knock on doors and offer a drink to the inhabitants. Often, riddles and word games are part of the festivities and the wassailers are offered candies and other sweet treats as a reward.

Here we come awassailing among the leaves so green.
Here we come awand'ring, the fairest to be seen.
Love and Joy come to you and to your wassail
And God bless you and send you a happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

In the USA, orchardists have joined with Pagans to once again perform a ritual in the cider and perry orchards. Though shotguns are no longer used, these wassailers ride on hay carts into the fields to wake up the trees. They make a Lamb's Wool from nonalcoholic cider.

Lamb's Wool

10 small apples
10 teaspoons brown sugar
2 quarts ale or hard cider
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground ginger
4 whole cloves
4 allspice berries
1 three-inch cinnamon stick
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
6 eggs, separated
1 cup brandy

Wash and core the apples; fill each one with a teaspoon of brown sugar. Place in a baking dish and cover the bottom with 1/4 inch of water. Bake in a three hundred fifty degree oven for thirty minutes or until tender. Combine the ale with the spices, sugar and water in a heavy saucepan. Do not allow to boil, but heat for thirty minutes to allow the spices to perfume the ale. Beat the egg yolks until light. Beat the whites until stiff and fold into the yolks. Strain the ale and gradually add to the eggs, beating constantly. Add the brandy. Pour into a punch bowl and float the apples on top. Serves 8-10.

Wassail, oh wassail all over the town
The cup it is white, the ale it is brown
The cup it is made of the good ashen tree
And so is the beer of the best barley.

Wassail!

Yuletide Trivia and Fun Facts

YULETIDE TRIVIA AND FUN FACTS

So you think you know all there is to know about Yule? The history and origins and how certain traditions and delights came to be? Test your knowledge by reading some of the fun facts below--you'll be surprised!

*Modern-day astronomers say that the famous Star of Bethlehem wasn't a star at all. More than likely, it was either a comet or an astronomical phenomenon caused by the conjunction of several planets at once.

*According to historical records, the first American Christmas festivities took place in Jamestown in 1607. The celebration was a device to cheer up the forty settlers who had survived living in the New World. (The original number was one hundred.)

*Because the British Parliament felt Christmas was a heathen holiday, they officially abolished all related festivities in 1643.

*The historical records of 1836 show Alabama as the first state in the Union to give Christmas the status of legal holiday. Oklahoma was the last state to conform; they didn't declare it a legal holiday until 1907.

*The first commemorative Christmas stamp was issued in Austria in 1937.

*Donder (not Donner), which means thunder, was the original name of the reindeer who helped pull Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve. He was paired with Blitzen, whose name means lightning.

*The story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was written specifically as a sales gimmick for the Montgomery Ward Company in 1939 by one of their employees, Robert L. May. The little book was given freely to every customer who shopped there during the holiday season.

*The candy cane first gained popularity in churches, where it was given as a treat to children who behaved themselves during services.

*Eggnog wasn't always the creamy, rich drink we know today. It's a derivative of a seventeenth century ale called "nog." The Irish celebrated each Christmas Eve by drinking a pint or so, for in their country all pubs were closed on Christmas Day.

*Gingerbread houses became popular holiday gifts during the nineteenth century after The Brothers Grimm released the story of Hansel and Gretel.

*St. Francis of Assisi introduced the singing of carols to holiday church services.

*The first American carol--a song entitled "Jesus is Born"--was written by Reverend John de Brebeur in 1649.

*At midnight on the Christmas Eve of 1914, German gunfire suddenly halted and was replaced by the singing of carols. At daybreak, the German soldiers began to call out "Merry Christmas" to their foes. Before long, both sides declared a truce, shook hands with each other, and exchanged gifts of food, cigarettes, and liquor. The merriment and goodwill lasted for three days.

*Irving Berlin wrote the popular carol "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" in 1942 specifically for the movie "Holiday Inn," in which Bing Crosby starred.

*Two years after World War II ended, the people of Oslo, Norway sent a holiday tree to the city of Westminster in appreciation of British support. This tradition continues today.

*Along the shores of the Mississippi River--especially along the Louisiana coastline--bonfires are lit on Christmas Eve. Their purpose is to guide the way for Father Christmas.

*The image of Santa as we know it today was popularized by none other than the Coca-Cola Company.

*The custom of Santa eating cookies on Christmas Eve originated in Germany where trees were decorated with fruit, flowers, and sweet confections. After leaving gifts for good children, he'd simply help himself to the goodies on the tree!

*Santa's fur-trimmed suit, his hat, and his cloak were fashioned after the clothing of the Dutch saint, Nicholas, who wore a bishop's mitre and vestments.

*St. Nick doesn't get a vacation after the winter holiday. Since he's also the patron saint responsible for Greece, Russia, sailors, merchants, pawnbrokers, bakers, prisoners, children, and wolves, he's a very busy spirit year 'round.

Casting a Ritual Circle

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Casting A Ritual Circle

Circle Casting is one of the distinguishing features of Neopagan Witchcraft. All religions have procedures for establishing Sacred Space, casting a Circle is the Wiccan practice that fulfills that function. The Circle establishes the outer rim of the sacred space.

The Circle sets the ritual space apart from the normal everyday space; it delineates the boundaries between our mundane practices and the realm of magical interaction. It is a declaration of parameters. It also helps to contain and focus the energies raised, it acts as a containment field for the energies that are summoned later. The casting of the circle is a magical act and should be sealed with a statement of success or some signal of completion.
When the Circle is being cast the participants should be visualizing a sphere of energy forming around them, the details of this visualization vary. Once it is cast, no one should leave without making some concession to the barrier such as "cutting a door."
This is a "Three worlds" Circle casting that I prefer because it speaks to the purpose of the Circle casting.
"Now we make our sacred space
By building a sphere of energy around us
We cast this circle of light by calling upon
the three worlds we move between
We cast this circle thrice about:
Once for the world of daylight,
For the world of intellect and clarity.
We cast this circle thrice about:
Once for the world of moonlight,
for the world of intuition and secrets.
We cast this circle thrice and last:
Once for the world out of time,
Between all places,
Where we meet to do our Work.
The Circle is cast
We stand between the worlds
Let all who enter, enter in love
Let all who leave, leave in peace."

This is the circle casting I learned from my teacher Jill Price. This is sort of an accordion piece, each verse can be stretched or condensed to last all the way around the Circle. The descriptive section, after the colon and before the final line of each section, can be improvised upon for as long as necessary.
"We cast this circle thrice about,
once for the maiden,
Innocent and free.
We are the maiden when we:
begin a new thing
know the beauty of the ordinary
marvel in the everyday
are joyful in life
we are the maiden and the maiden is us.
We cast this circle thrice about,
Once for the Mother,
Nurturing and strong.
We are the mother when we:
are Generous and loving
when we have the courage to lead
stand up for what we believe in
think of others first
we are the mother and the mother is us.
We cast this circle thrice about,
Once for the Crone,
Old and in wisdom strong.
We are the crone when we:
teach others
seek inner truth
comfort the weak
we are the crone and is us.
The Circle is cast.
We stand between the worlds,
Between all places,
Where we meet to do our Work.
Let all who enter, enter in love,
Let all who leave, leave in peace."

This is a Triple Goddess casting by my coven mate Michael wrote
I cast this circle thrice about, once for the maiden.
Carefree and innocent, she who knows the beauty of the ordinary.
She who marvels in the everyday, and is joyful in life.
I cast this circle thrice about, twice for the mother.
Nurturing and strong, she who knows the pains that make life worth
living. She who teaches us how to live, and takes away our hurt.
I cast this circle thrice about, thrice for the crone.
Aged and experienced, she who knows life's hard lessons.
She who aids us with the hard won knowledge of the ages.

The Circle is rarely perfectly round and in practice it's boundaries are somewhat flexible. You are within the Circle when you are in sensory contact with the group. As long as you are included in the interaction of the group you are within the Circle.
Cutting a door is a symbolic opening of the inclusive sphere to allow an individual to come or go. A door can be cut with an athame or parted like a veil. I like to unzip a door like a tent flap. Always close the door behind you when you leave.

For Insect Bites

Niaouli oil relieves the itch of insect bites
and helps reduce swelling.
Some say the bites heal faster, while the oil's
skin softeners counteract scars.
Just mix 2 drops of niaouli in 2 tablespoons of
witch hazel and apply to the affected area.

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"Sell a country? Why not sell the air, the great sea, as well as the Earth? Did not the Great Spirit make them all for the use of his children?"

-- Tecumseh, SHAWNEE

The White Man's way is to possess, control, and divide. It has always been difficult for Indian people to understand this. There are certain things we cannot own that must be shared. The Land is one of these things. We need to re-look at what we are doing to the Earth. We are digging in her veins and foolishly diminishing the natural resources. We are not living in balance. We do not own the Earth; the Earth owns us. Today, let us ponder the true relationship between the Earth and ourselves.

Great Spirit, today, let me see the Earth as you would have me see Her.
