Midsummer in the Shenandoah Mtns!

Eplagarðr Kindred and Grove of the Shenandoah, an ADF Protogrove, are celebrating Midsummer this weekend, June 17-19 at TLC Campground (www.TLCCampground.com) in the Northern Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. The location is less than 3 hours from Pittusburgh, Baltimore and Washington, DC.
The plan is to have a bardic circle Friday evening, probably starting up around 8-ish.
Saturday we will have a Celtic ADF ritual at noon and an Asatru sumble at 9pm.
We will have a workshop on encounters with deity and one on music in ritual Saturday afternoon (times TBD) and a pot luck Saturday evening around 6:30 pm.
This is at a campground, so there is a $20/night/person fee for camping, and $10/person for coming just for the day on Saturday.

Peeling Away the Layers
Trees Shedding Their Bark
Like a tree our growth depends upon our ability to soften, loosen, and shed boundaries and defenses we no longer need.
Trees grow up through their branches and down through their roots into the earth. They also grow wider with each passing year. As they do, they shed the bark that served to protect them but now is no longer big enough to contain them. In the same way, we create boundaries and develop defenses to protect ourselves and then, at a certain point, we outgrow them. If we don’t allow ourselves to shed our protective layer, we can’t expand to our full potential.
Trees need their protective bark to enable the delicate process of growth and renewal to unfold without threat. Likewise, we need our boundaries and defenses so that the more vulnerable parts of ourselves can safely heal and unfold. But our growth also depends upon our ability to soften, loosen, and shed boundaries and defenses we no longer need. It is often the case in life that structures we put in place to help us grow eventually become constricting.
Unlike a tree, we must consciously decide when it’s time to shed our bark and expand our boundaries, so we can move into our next ring of growth. Many spiritual teachers have suggested that our egos don’t disappear so much as they become large enough to hold more than just our small sense of selfâ€"the boundary of self widens to contain people and beings other than just “me.†Each time we shed a layer of defensiveness or ease up on a boundary that we no longer need, we metaphorically become bigger people. With this in mind, it is important that we take time to question our boundaries and defenses. While it is essential to set and honor the protective barriers we have put in place, it is equally important that we soften and release them when the time comes. In doing so, we create the space for our next phase of growth.

Gay Men's Healing Ritual, Jan 21 NYC

Puck, thank you so much for this final Re-Minder. I am looking forward to leading the "Gay Men's Healing Ritual" with the NYC Open Gay Men's Pagan Magick Circle. In fact, I was mentally reviewing the Quarter Calls and the Chant to Honor the Gods a few hours ago.
To everyone that shall be participate in this Ritual, please remember to bring a black, dark blue or dark purple candle to use to represent you during the Ritual, as well as a black Crystal to charge on the Altar during the Ritual, as well. In addition, please remember to bring a journal to write down what comes to you after the Ritual (or before, as the case may be). I think the ultimate question to ask yourselves is:
"What prevents me from being an empowered, wild and free Gay Man?"
I wish to, once again, thank those Gay Men that, although they shall not be able to participate in this Ritual in person have offered to send Energy to the Ritual. Nonetheless, please remember to do something for yourself during Gay Pride Month. You are a person, as well, and you deserve to engage in your own Ritual to surrender and release, dissolve and banish all the obstacles and barriers--from within and without--that prevent you from being the empowered, wild and free Gay Man that you are destined to be.

About Dainichi-Nyorai: This light-bearing Goddess comes in answer to the Japanese people's prayers for sunlight. Having all the sun's power, Dainichi-nyorai embodies pure goodness, her name meaning "great illuminator." With this in mind, call upon this goddess at midyear to assist your quest for enlightenment and keep the road ahead filled with radiance.
To Do Today: In Shinto tradition, today marks a time when people gather lilies as an offering to entreat the goddess to stop flooding rains. This is really a form of weather magic. If you need rain in your area, burn a lily; to banish rain, wave the lily in the air to move the clouds away!
It is customary to anoint one's hearth (the stove) today with lily (or any floral-scented) oil. When you light the candle, whisper Dainichi-nyorai's name so she can live through that flame, warming every corner of your life.
By the way, if you feel adventurous, lily buds are edible; they have a nutty taste. Try cooking them in butter and eating them to internalize all the positive energies of this festival and the Goddess.
