Daily Feng Shui Tip

Daily Feng Shui Tip by Ellen Whitehurst for Sunday, June 19

On this 'Father's Day' I'd like to share my heartfelt sentiments to all the Dads out there who truly parent their children, whether they contributed the actual DNA or not. I wish each and every one of you a terrific day of tremendous and well-deserved celebration and reward! Now, to all of you last minute shoppers, how about giving Dad a little fortune and lots of health, happiness and prosperity as his special gift this year? According to many ages-old traditions, Dad is understood to be both breadwinner and head of household and these next cures were meant to exponentially help those with such enormous responsibilities. Bolster your father's fortunes by giving a few special gifts. A metal-framed mirror hung in the Helpful People area not only brings him his 'due,' but also strengthens the metal element associated with that same energetic arena. Feng Shui says that metal will come in the form of silver and gold, bringing Dad a better bottom line by quickly manifesting more good fortune for him. You can also give Dad an edge in the next poker game by giving him three faux Chinese coins tied on a piece of red ribbon, string or thread. Holding or carrying this Good Fortune Coin Cure might just have him holding the next big winning hand. Putting a pile of coins in the Helpful People corner also corrals big metal 'luck' with fortunes to follow. The more coins the better, so dig into the couch and move the quarters you find to the corner! Lastly, and if in doubt, just bake Dad a pie, because all dads deserve pie, especially on a delicious day meant just for them. I said it before and I'll say it again, Happy Father's Day!

The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

Love Each Day,
Lady Nightshayde

What Was the Vestalia?

What Was the Vestalia?
By Patti Wigington, About.com Guide

Vesta was a guardian of virginity and the hearth fire.

The Roman celebration of Vestalia was held each year in June, near the time of Litha, the summer solstice. This festival honored Vesta, the Roman goddess who guarded virginity. She was sacred to women, and alongside Juno was considered a protector of marriage.

The Vestalia was celebrated from June 7 to June 15, and was a time in which the inner sanctum of the Vestal Temple was opened for all women to visit and make offerings to the goddess. The Vestales, or Vestal Virgins, guarded a sacred flame at the temple, and swore thirty-year vows of chastity. One of the best known Vestales was Rhea Silvia, who broke her vows and conceived twins Romulus and Remus with the god Mars. It was considered a great honor to be chosen as one of the Vestales, and was a privilege reserved for young girls of patrician birth.

The worship of Vesta in celebration was a complex one. Unlike many Roman deities, she was not typically portrayed in statuary - instead, the flame of the hearth represented her at the family altar. Likewise, in a town or village, the perpetual flame stood in the stead of the goddess herself.

For the celebration of Vestalia, the Vestales made a sacred cake, using water carried in consecrated jugs from a holy spring. The water was never permitted to come into contact with the earth between the spring and the cake, which also included sacred salt and ritually prepared brine as ingredients. The hard-baked cakes were then cut into slices and offered to Vesta. During the eight days of the Vestalia, only women were permitted to enter Vesta's temple for worship. When they arrived, they removed their shoes and made offerings to the goddess. At the end of Vestalia, the Vestales cleaned the temple from top to bottom, sweeping the floors of dust and debris, and carrying it away for disposal in the Tiber river. Ovid tells us that the last day of Vestalia -- the Ides of June -- became a holiday for people who worked with grain, such as millers and bakers. They took the day off and hung flower garlands and small loaves of bread from their millstones and shop stalls.

Today, if you'd like to honor Vesta during the time of the Vestalia, bake a cake as an offering, decorate your home with flowers, and do a ritual cleansing the week before Litha. You can do a ritual cleansing with a Litha blessing besom.

Sun Worship

Sun Worship
By Patti Wigington, About.com Guide

The sun has been honored by many cultures.

At Litha, the sun is at its highest point in the sky. Many ancient cultures marked this date as significant, and the concept of sun worship is one nearly as old as mankind itself. In societies that were primarily agricultural, and depended on the sun for life and sustenance, it is no surprise that the sun became deified. While many people today might take the day to grill out, go to the beach, or work on their tans, for our ancestors the summer solstice was a time of great spiritual import.

The Egyptian peoples honored Ra, the sun god. For people in ancient Egypt, the sun was a source of life. It was power and energy, light and warmth. It was what made the crops grow each season, so it is no surprise that the cult of Ra had immense power and was widespread. Ra was the ruler of the heavens. He was the god of the sun, the bringer of light, and patron to the pharaohs. According to legend, the sun travels the skies as Ra drives his chariot through the heavens. Although he originally was associated only with the midday sun, as time went by, Ra became connected to the sun's presence all day long.

The Greeks honored Helios, who was similar to Ra in his many aspects. Homer describes Helios as "giving light both to gods and men." The cult of Helios celebrated each year with an impressive ritual that involved a giant chariot pulled by horses off the end of a cliff and into the sea.

In Native American cultures, such as the Iroquois and Plains peoples, the sun was recognized as a life-giving force. Many Plains tribes still perform a Sun Dance each year, which is seen as a renewal of the bond man has with life, earth, and the growing season. In MesoAmerican cultures, the sun was associated with kingship, and many rulers claimed divine rights by way of their direct descendance from the sun.

As part of the cult of Mithra, early Persian societies celebrated the rising of the sun each day. The legend of Mithra may well have given birth to the Christian resurrection story. Honoring the sun was an integral part of ritual and ceremony in Mithraism, at least as far as scholars have been able to determine. One of the highest ranks one could achieve in a Mithraic temple was that of heliodromus, or sun-carrier.

Sun worship has also been found in Babylonian texts and in a number of Asian religious cults. Today, many Wiccans and Pagans honor the sun at Midsummer, and it continues to shine its fiery energy upon us, bringing light and warmth to the earth.

Lizard Love

Lizard love: Male warms heart of female with a bunch of flowers
By Daily Mail Reporter

Last updated at 4:43 PM on 16th June 2011

These amazing pictures prove that a bunch of flowers can go a long way - even in the animal kingdom.
A male sand lizard, perched on top of a plant, catches the eye of a female with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
After she carefully climbs up the plant to reach him, she accepts his gift and the pair form an almost perfect heart shape.

Say it with flowers: The male lizard appears to be wooing his potential mate with a bunch of flowers

But to prove the coarse of true love never did run smooth, the female then dramatically slips and falls off the plant - only for her doting new partner to dive to her rescue and help her down.
The romantic drama was captured by keen photographer Alexey Tymoshenko.

'I took these pictures in the back of my parents house in Ukraine. I've been visiting there ever since I left home,' Alexey, 19, said.
'When I was a child one of my favourite things I used to do was play in the garden and watch the lizards.
'Formany years I've learnt their behaviour - if you're friendly with them they are friendly with you because they get used to you and your hands very soon.

My hero: The female loses her balance and falls, only for her suitor to reach out and gently carry her to safety

'Usually 30 minutes is enough for them to understand you won't do them any harm and now I can photograph them without them being afraid of me.
'But I never thought they could be sopassionate and helpful to each other. It was amazing watching one drop and the male dive to catch her.
'AndI was especially surprised by the scene with the flower - I'm not a specialist and don't know what it means but it really looked like one lizard is proposing.'

The bride and groom: The happy couple are all smiles as they pose for photographer Alexey Tymoshenko

Alexey, from Ukraine, is studying engineering at university and takes photos as a hobby.
He added: 'I like to photograph nature, especially animals as they don't pose so you can photograph them as they are.'
Sand lizards spend a lot of time buried just below the surface of the sand, although they also enjoy basking in sunshine.

The Real Life Bambi and Thumper

Watch out Disney here come the REAL Bambi and Thumper - and this tale ends happily ever after

By Daily Mail Reporter

Last updated at 9:05 AM on 1st June 2011

Meet the real-life Bambi and Thumper - a cute baby deer and a fluffy rabbit who have become absolutely inseparable.
The cute pair became best friends last June when Bambi was found cowering at the side of a busy major road aged just one day old.
Just like in the 1942 Walt Disney classic, poor little Bambi had lost her mother and was left all alone.

But motorist Svetlana Harper, 35, spotted her shivvering by the roadside, brought her home and nursed her back to full health.

Fur-m friends: The real-life Bambi and Thumper are inseparable

Bambi soon started meeting the otheranimals at his new home, including Stasha the Alsation dog, but he quickly became best chums with rabbit Thumper.

Now the adorable pair play together, take naps at the same time and follow each other round all day - just like in Disney's cartoon.

Svetlana said: 'I was driving home at night and not far from my home I noticed something on the road - it was raining and visibility was low.
'So I slowed down and as I went to drive round it I suddenly saw a small cub in the road.
'I stopped and carefully got closer to the deer. It didn't move, and then I noticed the mum laying near the cub.

Cute: Bambi the rescued baby deer snuggles up to her new best friend

'The mum was dead and so would the cub have been if I didn't rescue it. I covered it with my jacket and drove it home.
'Iwarmed some milk and added an egg to try to feed Bambi but with no success. The rest of the night he slept with me on the sofa and I would try and feed him again.

Adopted family: Bambi plays with two more of her new animal pals

'By the end of the day he finally started to suckle milk from the bottle and felt better. He was following me everywhere - I was like his mum.'
Over the next few days the weather got better and a spring returned to the little cub who began bouncing around the house.
Soon he was ready to venture outside and start meeting his new pals around Svetlana's home in Montana, USA.

She added: 'He met all my dogs and rabbits and a few were very interested in Bambi.

My German-Shepherd Stasha likes all cubs and once even fed kittens who lost their mum.
'She started to care about Bambi and kept licking him and always laying down near him.

On-screen relationship: Disney's Bambi and Thumper in the classic 1942 cartoon

'But he was more interested in Ben, my rabbit who looks just like Thumper.
'Theyquickly became inseparable - it was very cute and made everyone laugh. We fed Bambi with milk and tried to leave him with Stasha as long as possible.
'All he wanted to do though was go and see Ben.'

The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

Spell to Ward Off Nosey Neighbors

Spell To Ward Off Nosey Neighbors

Ingredients:
Red wine vinegar
Bay leaves
Cinnamon
Salt
Key from a sardine can
Small mirror

Do you have a busybody living next door to you? Here's what to do, Make a mixture using one cup of red wine vinegar, nine bay leaves, a teaspoon of cinnamon, and three pinches of salt, This is an old banishing formula from a witches' book of shadows. Use the key from a sardine can to stir the mixture, The key symbolizes the nature of the relationship, since unfortunate in modern urban settings our homes are thrust right on top d one another and we live packed together like sardines in a can. The key is also an ancient tool witches used to conduct magical energy. Remember Benjamin Franklin using the key on the kite to harness the electricity in lightning? (Franklin, by the way, was a Freemason and known to be a member of a secret magical order.) One of the eight tools of the witches is the athame or double-edged blade. It is used to represent the will a key was and often still is substituted for an athame. Hold the key in your right hand, and as you
stir the brew, chant,

Busybody, keep away from me.
Mind your business. So mote it be.

"So mote it be" is the witches' equivalent to "amen" and is usually
said at the end of spells to give them power. The literal meaning is "so may it be" or "may it come to pass."

This is a great formula to stop gossip or slander as well. Now take a
small mirror and dip it in the brew, Place the mirror in a corner of one
of your windows or by your front door. If you have a mirrored peephole
on the door, you should splash the mixture over it. Mirrors deflect
negative energy from us and also keep people from seeing anything but
their own business.

Protection Incantation

I am a Witch of ancient lore,
I petition these trees, and forest floor.
Converge myself upon this site,
spider weaving, power and might.
Air and Fire, Water and Earth,
aid in my quest, I call you forth.
Aradia, Aradia, I intone,
thrice the power you have shone.
Open my spiral of strength and sorcery,
encompass the soul, you have granted me.
Pentacle of old, stones of deep,
protection around, assistance I seek.
Marry my veins, to this Earth,
Cernunnos I summon you forth.
Steel needles and pins,
red blood of sins.
Buried deep in clandestine dusk,
liquid Venus, scent of musk.
Hear my words from Moon to Moon,
cite the Lord & Lady's Rune
By the law of three times three,
So mote it be....
