Please be careful about what you circulate and check it before posting.
This particular warning WAS true at the time it was given but it's
outdated. The problem has since been taken care of.

Also, please trim messages when sending through to only what you need to get
your point across. We ask this as a courtesy to those who are on dial-up
(yes, there are still some of us!) as well as to those from other countries
who pay per download for their data.

Healing still needed for Dee. It's one step forward, two steps back I
guess. Right now we're dealing with a mild GI bleed. They've taken him off
his pain medications because they may have been a factor and so he's
hurting. He'll be off those at least a week. Once he's stable, they'll
adjust the feeding tube so it doesn't cause any more problems. His blood
count is better, though not great, and he's still eating a few things via
mouth (mostly clear soups and melted sherberts and sorbets).

I'm hanging in there. The chemo isn't curing the disease or stopping it but
it's slowing it down. I take two chemotherapy medications now and one
topical to put on the skin ulcers it causes. I've even got some new skin.
And I DID get my new power chair! Thanks bunches! Some reduced hearing from
the double ear infection but I'll take it; it's better than nothing.

Fran, I am happy to hear Dee is somewhat better, and he is getting some sustenance.

I know you are enjoying that power chair!

You and Dee remain on the list for the Healing Circle.

We went out for sushi today (he can't have that but I can, as long as
I avoid the truly raw stuff like the oysters and clams). He ate
again! Hot and sour soup, a few pieces of marinated chicken.
Weight's still not where we want it (only 125) but it's better than it
was. He was pretty tired by the end of the day but he drank a
smoothie too. That's more than he normally eats in a week.

They've revised his treatment plan. He'll never be well again, but
we're hoping he can be kept from becoming a complete invalid. It's
doubtful he'll ever again be at his normal pre-injury weight but they
think they can get him up to 145 or 150 or so (Dee is 6' 6" and large
boned but always was a bit on the wiry side).

> I know you are enjoying that power chair!

So much easier to get about on my own now. I filled my own plate at
the buffet. I can go to the bathroom by myself. I don't have to look
at what other people are looking at or be stranded if they wander off.
My companions don't come home tired and worn out. Now, if only the
God and Goddess would grant us some financial relief. It cost $13K
for the chair, of which we paid $1000 and will have to keep making
payments. The deck cost almost $2500 so that I could have a ramp in
and out of the house. The winch and carrier for it were another
$1000. We're deeply in debt right now and Mr. Shapeshifter is the
only one working regularly.

We'll keep working at things and Someone will provide. They always do
when we keep trying to help ourselves.

Thank you ALL for your prayers and wishes. It really makes a big difference.

I adore hot and sour soup. I always want to eat two servings before I start eating the main dish.

I will try to help out some financially soon. I may be able to swing it this month. (July)

Here is part of an interview with Liv Tyler:

"I feel quite strongly in my own personal ... I wouldn't say religion because I'm not a religious person but I consider myself a spiritual person. I definitely have some kind of belief in something bigger than myself. I almost feel like it's the universe and the earth and mother nature and that feeling when you go to the beach or stand on top of a mountain and look around and go, 'God this is not about me.' I feel quite clear about that in my own heart. I'm definitely curious and enjoy talking to different people about their beliefs. I grew up around so many different types of people, political, religious, in my lifetime so I'm quite used to overhearing those conversations."

Daily Feng Shui Tip for June 29

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Wed Jun 29, 2011 12:21 pm (PDT)

Daily Feng Shui Tip by Ellen Whitehurst for Wednesday, June 29

The energies have declared today 'Hug Holiday Day,' which means it's time to wrap your head around this concept and then wrap your arms around someone else. In fact, 'Hug Holiday Day' encourages us to give hugs to anyone we think might need a few squeezes of love. It's said that on this day volunteers freely give their hugs at senior citizen centers, hospitals and other public places where hugs would be welcome. Research from psychiatrists and other medical professionals agrees that a close relationship exists between the health of the body and that of the mind. This research supports the speculation that your thoughts patterns, moods and even your behavior have a tremendous and direct result on the state of your well-being. Some of this research even cites certain things that any empowered person can do to vastly improve their health, as well as bringing a big boost of happiness into their lives. Besides cleaning clutter, organizing the household and getting a hobby to take your mind to a different and happier place, the next advice on this happy list is to laugh often and hug freely! Laughing and hugging have been proven to exponentially improve the health of both body and mind, as well as to provide an immediate lifting of spirits! Rounding out this list are healthy eating and doing something charitable to pay it forward for all the blessings you have in your own life. Starting today, if you do any or all of these things, then you should stand up and give yourself a big hug! I'll be sending a virtual one as well! Big squeeze to you from me!

The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

Love Each Day,
Lady Nightshayde

Americans United Asks Texas Public School District To Stop Imposing Religion On Students At Graduation
Church-State Watchdog Group Says School-Sponsored Prayer Violates The Constitution And Court Precedent
June 29, 2011
Americans United for Separation of Church and State has asked officials at a Texas school district to stop sponsoring prayers during high school graduation ceremonies.
Two high schools within the Klein Independent School District â€" Klein High School and Klein Collins High School â€" included invocations and benedictions at their June 4 graduation ceremonies. In both cases, these prayers were scheduled parts of the ceremony.
“Graduation is an important rite of passage for young people and all students should feel welcome regardless of their views about religion,” said Americans United Legal Director Ayesha N. Khan. “It’s a matter of simple fairness and decency for school officials to recognize that we live in a diverse society and to include everyone.”

Let It Flow
Tears

How wonderful it feels to give in and let tears flow when we are overwhelmed with emotions, whether we are happy or sad. Tears come from the soul, from our well of feelings rising from deep down. When we give in to the prickling behind our eyes and the lump in our throat to let teardrops fall from our eyes, we allow our feelings to surface so they can be set free.

Proud parents shed tears of pride in a child’s accomplishments, a baby’s first step, birthdays, and graduations. Long lost friends fall into each other’s arms, tears rolling down their cheeks when they reunite after years of separation. Tears may flow from us when we are witness to a commitment being made at a wedding or even while we are watching a love story. Tears of relief may spring forth from our eyes when we hear that a loved one has survived an ordeal, and tears may fall when we bow our head in sorrow over a loss or death. Tears born from heartache can flow like they’ll never cease, whether our tears are for a love that is over, a friendship lost, or an opportunity missed. We shed tears because of disappointment in ourselves, tragedy in the world, pain, and illness. Tears of anger can burn with emotion as they fall down our faces. Tears offer us a physical release of our feelings.

Shedding tears can sometimes make us feel better, although it can feel like the tears will never end once the floodgates are open. There is no shame in letting tears flow freely and frequently. Tears are as natural to us as is breathing. There is beauty in allowing yourself to be vulnerable enough to shed tears. Open up, release your tears, and let your feelings flow.

He's already on things like that but has motility issues (the GI
system is partially paralyzed because of nerve damage and the removal
of some of the bowel loop). Some days are good, some not so good.
This was a good one; on the bad days not even the formula that goes
into the J-tube helps. The problem is with absorption; we can put
food into him, but he just can't use all of it properly. (Dee was shot
in the line of duty and then the bullet decided to do some fun an
interesting things instead of staying put. Didn't help that they
couldn't get all the fragments right away and he was shot by someone
who cast their own bullets. For a while we had lead poisoning to
contend with too but he finally finished the treatment for that).
Dee's missing a large segment of small intestine, about half his
liver, and his spleen. That makes doing for him very finicky sometimes
because you never know exactly which part is going to decide it isn't
working just right.

On the good days he can eat soups with well cooked vegetables, plain
but thoroughly cooked and softened meats, and pureed foods. He does
often take smoothies or protein drinks. On the bad days, the tube
does the feeding for him. On the really bad days, even that isn't
effective. Luckily we're starting to see fewer of those.

And any suggestions are appreciated, always. He's a very special man,
the love of my life and my first true love.

Is There Any Science to Astrology?

Is There Any Science to Astrology?
June 6, 2011 at 1:00 pm
By Krishna Bill
People have ascribed to astrology since the beginning of history. While it’s often considered “for entertainment purposes only” these days, in the past it often formed the basis for whole empires, consulted by kings, emperors and heads of state to determine the course of their affairs. In fact, many of the most crucial decisions in world history have been made based on the science of astrology. But, be that as it mayâ€"is there any science to it, or is it just a delusion?
NakedHealth reports:

Astrology, the study of how planets and stars affect the lives of people on the earth, has been around at least since the days of ancient Babylon. Evidence of astrology has been found in cultures such as ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt. Even Galileo and Copernicus were astrologers.
Modern astrology is practiced in many different forms, but all are based on mathematical analysis of the relationship between the planets, the sun, and the moon, and how people’s lives reflect those relationships.
But what do scientists have to say about astrology? Is it a real science? Do studies uphold the claims of those who say astrology accurately predicts major life events? Are astrology believers really on to something, or are they unwitting victims of coincidence and psychological manipulation?
May the Force Be With You
Astrology is based on forcesâ€"the forces celestial bodies exert on each other and on us hapless residents of planet earth. Just as the moon’s gravity affects the tides, astrologers claim that planetary and star forces affect virtually all aspects of human life.

What do you thinkâ€"will astrology ever be put on an even keel with proper science? Or, perhaps a more realistic question to ask isâ€"do you see it becoming a more accepted practice in society? Or is it already widely accepted, and we just don’t see it?

Comparing Eastern and Western Astrology

When a Tiger Meets a Leo: Comparing Eastern and Western Astrology
June 26, 2011 at 5:00 am
By LJ Innes
Tropical vs. Chinese Astrology
Can a Tiger be a Crab or a Bull? If so, is it also possible for a Scorpion to be a Monkey or a Rabbit? It’s all absolutely possible when you compare someone’s Eastern astrology sign with their Western one.
Western astrology, as you might read online or in a newspaper, has many differences from Eastern or Chinese astrologyâ€"but there are also many similarities. Knowing a little about one or the other can be informative, but knowing even a little about both and how they match up can be truly insightful.
Twelve Signsâ€"Twelve Monthsâ€"Twelve Years
Eastern, or Chinese astrology has twelve symbols on their zodiac wheel, as does western astrology. Eastern astrology’s symbols are all animals, while Western astrology is a mix of representations. Chinese astrology follows the lunar calendar and runs in twelve-year cycles; Western astrology follows the solar calendar year and runs in twelve-month cycles. In Chinese astrology, there are 144 possible personality types.
Elementsâ€"Four vs. Five
While both systems possess elements in their makeup, the way they are used in reading someone’s chart are slightly different. The five Chinese elementsâ€"water, wood, fire, earth and metalâ€"are assigned to each of the twelve zodiac symbols, meaning that you could be a wood Tiger or a Metal Tiger, and so on. Western astrology, however, has just four elementsâ€"water, fire, air and earthâ€"and those elements govern only three signs each. In Western astrology, a love relationship with someone of your same element is likely to be a good love match. For example, Scorpio and Pisces, both water signs and they are both very compatible, and two Librans together are another good match, always seemingly balancing each other out.
Western Qualitiesâ€"Three Groups of Four
In Western astrology, we group signs into qualities. People born of the same quality have similar modes to approaching life. The three qualities are Cardinal (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn), Fixed (Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus) and Mutable (Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini and Virgo).
Eastern Trinesâ€"Four Groups of Three
Chinese astrology groups their signs similarly to our qualities, but they act more like the Western elements do, and they are set off in four groups of three signs. These signs are often a chief indicator of who would make a good lifetime mate. The Rat, Dragon and Monkey form one group; the Ox, Snake and Rooster are another group; the Horse, Tiger and the Dog form yet another group; and the Rabbit, Goat and Pig, yet another.
To sum it all up, if you’re searching for love using Western astrology, first look to the elements, and if your search leads you to Chinese astrology, the Trines are a good place to start. In matters of friendship, look to the qualities for the people that you click with.
If you want to look deeply into your own makeup or the makeup of a relationship, mixing and matching the guidance of both East and West makes great sense. A trained astrologer with knowledge of both disciplines would be able to give you the full picture and supply you with the answers you seek in matters of love, money and even help you find the occupation that you would be best suited for.
Although their approaches are slightly different, both the east and west roads lead to a common place. You have your own ideas and views about you and your relationships, adding these two additional dimensions will give you a panoramic view of your life’s path and where it can take you.

Loyalty vs. Blind Loyalty in Families

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Loyalty vs. Blind Loyalty In Families - By Mary Jane Hurley Brant ***
----------------------------------------------------------
Loyalty is essential for genuine family solidarity. But blind loyalty leads to family dysfunction.
A loyal family member is faithful to the family's traditions and honors its obligations. A loyal family member is emotionally present with support and encouragement during success or duress. These unwavering devotions are admirable and observable: just look at how a loyal family member helps another member during an illness, a financial crisis, the breakup of a marriage, death.

I admire family loyalty; I believe in it. However, I do not believe in blind family loyalty. Here's why.
A blindly loyal person follows lockstep and unquestioningly behind the family. Often, the marching is done unconsciously because one doesn't want to upset or anger another family member - a practice of "keep the peace mentality." Sometimes, the blindly loyal member will "go along" with something even when common sense and rationale plead with them to speak out. Sometimes, the blindly loyal member rejects hard core examples of a family's neurotic, enabling and codependent responses and that behavior hurts and damages their other relationships. How so?

Families operate on a continuum of being open with their communication or closed. Families with high functioning open systems can address any topic even when extremely painful, difficult or sensitive: loss, divorces, mental illness, secrets, alcoholism, various abuses, feelings of shame, affairs, death of beloved members, etc. These high functioning families feel confident and secure enough individually and as a family unit to discuss these circumstances and call them what they are. Individual expressions are not only permitted, they are encouraged. And while I agree it can be complicated and tricky at times where family confidences are concerned, it is not impossible to negotiate peaceful outcomes.

But, this isn't the case in the closed blindly loyal family. For example, in a blindly loyal family where the father was cold and dismissive to his children and now one member wants to let "the cat out of the bag" this member is often rejected by other family members. Blind family loyalty expects everyone to remember how terrific their celebrations were even when mom fell into the potato salad and knocking over Uncle Albert were regular occurrences. In other words, the blindly loyal family must turn "mom the sinner" into "mom the saint." And heaven protect the family member who challenges the accepted family view.

Where does blind loyalty originate? Usually, it's formed in early childhood to win parental approval and love because the worse thing for a child to feel is disapproved of, unloved and unwanted. We all want to believe we had the perfect family so we ignore the imperfections and transform family issues into virtues. The reality comes later when we see other people's families or we marry someone who is a higher functioning emotionally than we. That's when we have a point-of-reference for comparison. But telling ourselves that something was perfectly wonderful when it was not is emotionally unhealthy and a form of denial or repression. Those feelings don't disappear; they go underground to get projected and played out later with coworkers, spouses, friendships and even with their own children. For example, the adult child who could never please mom, dad or both unconsciously feels never good enough and becomes highly reactive when criticism comes his or her way.

But with acceptance of what really occurred in your family system, coupled with insight and introspection and sometimes help from another sibling, relative, friend, spiritual director or professional, most of us can understand more fully the childhood we experienced and not turn around and misdirect that disappointment, anger or hurt onto others. Yes, my friends, we can become loyal "to our own experience" and that's a really good thing.

Remember, there is no shame in admitting that we have wounds from some family experiences and that we have wounded others, sometimes blindly so, but let's not make a blind loyalty into a family affair. Instead, let's accept that no family is perfect and most do the best they can. When we are open to this conscious shift from being a blindly loyal family member to an authentically loyal family member our families will be true places of refuge. Places where we can always return to heal a hurt, to laugh and cry, and, yes, sometimes even exhale a bona fide sigh of those memorable words: home sweet home.

The Mystery of Wicca

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Thu Jun 30, 2011 12:25 am (PDT)

The Mystery of Wicca

There are many religions in the world. Some have stringent rules and
ideas, others are much more free form. Wicca falls in the free form
range of the religion spectrum. In Wicca, there is no book that outlines
what we believe and how we behave. There is no set structure to guide
our learning. Wicca has always been primarily an oral tradition where
knowledge is passed down from Priestess (or Priest) to student.

Because there is no guidebook to Wicca, many of the lessons that we
learn are those we learn through experience. As I tell many of my
students, Wicca is a participatory religion. There is no sitting on the
sidelines watching what goes on. Wicca is a practice. There are chants
to be sung, dances to move along to, stories to share, etc. While the
Internet and bookstores have made it much easier to get information
about Wicca, you can not stop there.

Almost all books on Wicca or Witchcraft include exercises and
meditations to learn from. While you can read the words on the page, you
won't ever get the full effect and full understanding unless you do
them! Wicca must be experienced to be understood.

This brings me to the idea of Mystery. What does that mean, Mystery?
Does that mean there are secrets?

Well, yes and no. Yes, there are things that are not shared outside of
the Craft or outside of particular groups. But is that because we don't
want to share the information? No, not really. It's because many times
we can't share them. Oh, we could tell a person every step and every
word of a dedication ritual for example. But would they understand the
significance? Probably not.

Let me use an example from everyday life that was shared with me by a
friend who recently had her first child. Other women had shared their
experiences of labor and delivery, and what it felt like to look into
their child's face for the first time with my friend before she had her
baby. But she said that no words could express what it REALLY felt like
until it happened to her.

How can you put an experience that intense into mere words? You can't.
Because it is a Mystery of life that can only be truly understood
through experience.

Wicca is full of these Mysteries. Some are small experiences that color
our view of life. Some are huge and profound and change our lives
forever. This is why Wicca is a Mystery Tradition. Keeping things secret
only protects the mystery. Opening a birthday gift is much more exciting
if you don't know what is beneath that wrapping beforehand!

So, if you are studying Wicca, don't just read the books and Google the
terms. Make it a practice. Do the exercises. Meditate. Be active. Be
involved, and the next time some one tells you they can't share their
experience, understand why, and strive to have experiences to keep your
own as well.
