Dog & Cat Hair Cleanup Tips

We Love Our Pets...Just Not The Hair Piles They Can Leave Behind

a.. Wrap clear packing tape (or wide masking tape, duct tape) loosely around and across your hand (sticky side out) then wipe/pat down furniture and areas where pets tend to hang out. Works well on clothes too. It aint pretty but it works.
b.. Mist area well with water, then briskly brush hair together into a pile and garbage–vacuum. Use a stiff bristle brush for this, the stiffer the better.
c.. Try a thick, dense sponge. Look in pet stores for special pet hair cleanup sponges–they need to be quite dense to work best (a couple options: Walmart's Pet Select Magic Pet Hair Remover Sponge or Gonzo Pet Hair Lifter). They're about $5 or $6 and can be washed and reused over and over again.
d.. Wear rubber gloves and wipe, pulling hair together in a pile. Regular yellow, dishwashing gloves, rubber gardening gloves or surgical rubber gloves work well for this. Wash hair off, dry the gloves, then get at it again. Vacuum up the piles of hair wads you accumulate with the process.
e.. Wipe down with a dryer sheet–lifts and attracts hair.
f.. Try a good, portable wet vac.
g.. Take a spray bottle, give two good squirts of Downy and fill the rest of the bottle with lukewarm water. Shake to mix well, then spray area. Let dry and vacuum. This seems to help lift the hair from carpets.
h.. Spray with Static Guard, dry then sweep, vacuum or sponge the area.
Dog Hair Cleaner Recipe
Bucketful of warm water and a splash of Murphy's Oil Soap

a.. Wet a sponge with the water, squeeze to release excess then wipe area in a circular/rotating motion. Don't use the sponge dripping wet. Rinse hair from sponge in a clean bucket of water, submerge again in the Murphy's Oil Soap water and repeat process until all hair is picked up. Pretty sure this works for cat hair too .
When all else fails:

Put on your favorite, nicest pair of black slacks or your most expensive, cute black dress and walk through your house. Voila! Hair from miles around will be on them .

Easy Pet Brush Cleanup
Here's a neat trick for easily removing hair from a pet brush:

a.. Instead of throwing out nylon stockings that have a run or two in them, cut them into strips that will cover the head of your pet's brush. Carefully place the nylon strip over the pins and pull down until the pin heads poke through.
b.. Brush your pet and when the grooming job is done, just pull off the strip of nylon and all the hair will come off with it. No more digging out bunches of pet hair from the bottom of the brush .
This will work on bristle brushes or slickers (the kind with the straight steel pins).

Remember: Occasionally dip and whisk the brush around in a pet shampoo/water solution then rinse to wash out dirt and oils collected. This will help keep the brush clean (just like we do with our hair tools).

Pet Protection Spell

Pet Protection Spell
From Yasmine Galenorn's Embracing the Moon: A Witch's Guide to Rituals, Spellcraft and Shadow Work
© 2002 Llewellyn Publications

While it is important to work carefully with your totem animals, it is also important to remember your pets. This spell will help protect your animal friends on the physical plane.

For EACH animal you will need:

1 six-inch square piece of black felt fabric paints
a clipping of hair or stray feathers from your pet
2 teaspoons dried cedar
1 bay leaf
2 teaspoons catnip (even if you have a dog)
1 teaspoon comfrey
1/4 teaspoon dried garlic
1 teaspoon StarWitch
Protection or Guardian oil (below)
Cotton
Needle and thread

On what will be the outside of the charm bag paint your pet's name and these runes: Algiz, Koad; the forest rune; the pentacle and the goddess rune. let dry. Fold the felt in half (painted side in) and sew two sides of it, leaving one open. Reverse the bag so the painted side is facing out. Raise energy on the herbs then powder and pour into the pouch. Add the clipping of pet hair, then stuff the rest with cotton to which you have added a few drops of the oil. Finish sewing the pouch. Cast a circle, invoke the elements and the lord and lady. Say:

O gracious Lord and Lady,
Protector of all creatures who walk upon this earth.
Guard my (pet's species and name) against harm and illness.
Watch over him/her with every step he/she takes.
Help me protect him/her and strengthen the connection of love between us.
Let this charm be blessed, to hold the energy of protection.
Blessed be.

Keep the charm bags in a safe place, perhaps on your altar, where the animal can't get to it. Renew this charm every six months.

Remember: the best protection for your animals is to keep them inside, to keep their vaccinations current, and to give them plenty of love, food, and clean water.

Protection Oil: Yasmine Galenorn-Embracing the Moon:

This is a good oil to select for your candle of protection when you are concerned with physical, as opposed to psychic attack. It can also be used to anoint yourself before you leave on a journey or undertake a potentially hazardous situation.

1/2 ounce olive oil
6 drops rose geranium oil
15 drops lemon oil
4 drops citronella oil
8 drops lavender oil
flower: lavender
drops cajupet oil (did not specify how many)
gem: clear quartz

Guardian Oil:

1/2 ounce olive oil
5 drops pennyroyal oil
15 drops lemon oil
10 drops rosewood oil
10 drops clove oil
flower: rose
15 drops patchouli oil
Gems: carnelian, citrine

Oh goddess, I fell flat during this storm-I was without power for almost 46 hours-came back around noon yesterday. Lost all my perishables (covered by insurance, thankfully), but no water, or anything. I am ashamed, to say the least.....

Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

Remember the Sun
The Sun Is Always Shining
If darkness has fallen, we know that the sun is still shining at this very moment somewhere not too far away.

There are times when gloom or darkness causes us to momentarily lose sight of the light. Although it is at these times when the thought of the sun can help us. Its warm, glowing rays brighten even our thoughts, and it’s good to remember that despite appearances the sun is shining right now. We may not be able to see it at this very moment, but if clouds block our view, they are only filtering the sun’s light temporarily. If darkness has fallen, we know that the sun is still shining at this very moment somewhere not too far away, and it’s only a matter of time before it will shine on us again.

When we remember that the sun is still shining, we know that things are still in motion in the universe. Even if life feels like it is at a standstill, sometimes all we need to do is have faith and wait for the time when everything is in its perfect place. Or we can we can choose to follow the cues of the sun and continue doing our work and shining our light, even when we can’t yet see results. In doing so we exercise our patience, making sure we are prepared when opportunity knocks and all other elements are in their right and perfect places.

The sun also reminds us that our own shining truth is never extinguished. Our light shines within us at all times, no matter what else occurs around us. Though the sun gives us daily proof of its existence, sometimes our belief in our own light requires more time. If we think back, however, we can find moments when it showed itself and trust that we will see it again. Like the sun, our light is the energy that connects us to the movements of the universe and the cycles of life and is present at all times, whether we feel its glow or not.

Ancient Ones Harvest Spell

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Ancient Ones Harvest Spell

Harvest was a time for families, communities, and friends to come together. During harvest, special cakes were made in a ritual manner, and each person in the family or group would partake of this sacred meal. Mix together one cup oat flour, one pinch baking soda, two pinches of salt, and one teaspoon of melted butter. Add hot water to form the dough, roll it on a board, and cut it into shapes. Cook the bread in the oven at 375 degrees until it is nicely toasted.

Share it with your tribe or family, reciting these words:

Consecrate the produce of our land.
Bestow prosperity and peace
In the names of the gods and goddesses,
And in the names of the ancient ones.

Second Merseberg Charm, England

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed Aug 31, 2011 8:26 pm (PDT)

Erce, Erce, Erce,
mother of earth,
Hail to thee, Erce,
mother of men.
Mother Earth,
be fruitful now,
be filled with food
for your children's use.
~Second Merseberg Charm, England

Although fall approaches, it is not quite here yet. This is the time of harvest, the season of fullness and plenty.

For our forebears, this was a time of both celebration and intense industry. It was a time of omen-seeking for the future and of thanksgiving for many of the gifts of the past.

It is important, as harvest nears, to recognize what ie ripe and what is yet unripe, what calls to be taken and what must now be left to grow. There is no sense in plucking what needs to be left on the vine,
for such fruits are sour and hard and unnourishing. But it is also wasteful to pass over what needs to be plucked, for when something is truly ripe, more time leads not to further growth, but to rot and loss.

In our lives, every day brings us ideas, creative works, and relationships that are ripe, ready to be brought forth and celebrated. The harvest of human life and human love is constant, not restricted to a single season. There are other works and loves that need time to grow and develop. Left undisturbed, they will eventually
bear fruit to nourish and sustain us. Wisdom lies in recognizing our inner seasons.

What's Happening Today

September gets its name from the Latin word, septum, meaning "seven", because it was originally the seventh month in the old calendar system.  While the early portion of this month has many
summer-feeling festivals, slowly we see a change in focus toward the fall and harvest celebrations.  Children return to school, outdoor activities start to wane, and the Wheel of Time begins to paint
the trees with color.

The traditional birthstone of amulet of September is the blue sapphire; and the aster and the morning glory are the month's traditional flowers. September is shared by the astrological signs of Virgo the Virgin and Libra the Scales (or Balance), and is sacred to the following Pagan deities: Persephone, Thor, and the Wiccan Goddess in Her aspect of the Mother.

During the month of September, the Great Solar Wheel of the Year is turned to the Autumnal Equinox, one of the four Lesser Sabbats celebrated each year by Wiccans and modern Witches throughout the world.

September's energy augments magic for prosperity and abundance, balanced with sensibility and a little frugality.  It is especially a time for rituals that thank the Goddess for all her gifts throughout the year.  Beyond this, start making amulets for health so that when the cooler winds come, you'll be magically fortified.
