The call to Iansa/Oya

IANSA
————————
She dances on the storm
above the graveyard
hurling her lightning bolts
in the darkened night sky
flashes of colors swirl wildly
She laughs with glee
her hair flowing savagely
as her legs kick with the dance
"I am the Dark Mother" she cries
"I am alive with magic and mystery"
she swirls her hands
and the tornadoes form
the dance becomes fierce
and the dead begin to rise
to dance in glory
in this mystical time
the rains become heavier
and the trees bow to her might
come now ye children of Iansa
and celebrate with her tonight.

Author's Notes: I have used this as an invocation and a call to Oya and it works. Hekua Iansa!

Hekate Path Working

After invoking Hecate I sometimes do this meditation
that I have created and that is dedicated to the Great
Goddess Hecate

The scene takes place outside a cave at night. You
have the ability to see everything as if you had
natural night vision. Leading up to the cave is a natural path outlined by rocks. There is a cave that is
connected to a high mountain. Is there a lady is black
beckoning you to follow or is there no one there,
still you feel drawn to that cave. Start walking up the path.
You walk a natural path to the cave upon entering the
cave you see a torch that is lit take it it was meant
for you. Walk through the narrow path of he cave. As
you walk through the tunnel there are other torches
lit on the wall, just enough for you to see and also
to cast shadows. you walk through a natural tunnel.
This part of the cave for now has a low ceiling. You
walk on until you reach a part of the cave where on
your left side you see a rock sticking out it is
hollowed into a natural bowl. In it is clear water
look deeply into this water, what do you see? How do
you see your self? If you wish ask it a question what
do you get as a answer? Is it a word, a symbol, a
scenery? After receiving your answer it is time to
move on. to your right side there are torches light
them if you will. As you go on you will start to feel
different, the place gets darker. Now in front of you
the cave is in all darkness. Do you dare to go on? If
not turn back and leave the cave put the lit torch
where you found it before leaving. If you decide to
stay know that you are deep in the womb of Mother
Earth. Go on and walk forward. Has the cave changed?
Is the ceiling higher? In front of you is a strong and
mighty figure. She is the Dark Goddess Hecate. Do you
see her? Or do you only see the darkness of the cave?
What does she have to tell you?
Does she give you anything? You may honor her here if
you wish. Stay as long as needed. Now that you have
seen the Dark Goddess thank Her for what ever she has
done for you. It is time to go back. Bow to Her before
leaving. Go back the way you came. Do you feel
different? If you lit any torches extinguish them. On
the way back go back to the bowl of water look into
it. What do you see? Have you changed? You may ask it
a question. What do you get as an answer? You may also
thank Hecate by this water as well. On your way out
put back the torch and leave the cave. Go down the
path from where you started from.

Author's Notes: This has amazing results as a solitary and as a group working.

Oh hear me Lakshmi, jewel of the heart
Oh hear me Lakshmi, beauty of the soul
Lakshmi Mother, Divine Mother
compassionate one
Brama loves you
Vishnu loves you
Shiva loves you
abundance is your name!
Shri! Shri! Shri!
come into my life
come into my home
come and live with me, Shri Lakshmi
sweet abundant mother
come and live with me
I have set a place in my heart for you
I have set a place in my life for you!
Shri! Shri! Shri!
Shri Lakshmi
with all the power of my love
with all the power of the universe
I invoke you!
I invoke Lakshmi into my life
dwell in my home
dwell in my life
my Mother, my Devi, I welcome you
LAKSHMI, I love you.

I wrote this one while Lakshmi was influencing me. I use this one to empower and dedicate a statue to her. This is a potion iuse to make it so. I use spring water with honey & sugar mixed in with it then I add some gold and pennies and
other coins. I use a dollar bill to put this potion on the statue. I of course pray over this potion and empower it before hand.
if you want try it out for yourself, then go fo it.

LAKSHMI is an indicator for me to ceremonialy vibrate her name. If you dont know how to vibrate words of power then for now just say the word LAKSHMI with passion and devotion and all the love you can build up for Lakshmi.

Hi and Merry Meet, Verlaya --

No need to apologize, providing such information is (partly) what we're
here for!

Resources On Wicca:

1. CoG - Covenant of the Goddess - http://www.cog.org
<http://www.cog.org/>
- a national organization of (legally-recognized Wiccan "churches") -
Wiccan covens, clergy and solitaries -- with local "councils" in many
cities. CoG provides general, basic information, links to resources and
other organizations, Groups, Covens, teachers, High Priests and High
Priestesses, and much more. CoG also "certifies" clergy and Elders, and
sponsors "Merry Meet" - a yearly 5-day festival.

2. Circle Sanctuary - http://www.circlesanctuary.org
<http://www.circlesanctuary.org/> -
- a Pagan (not just Wiccan) Sanctuary, working farm, and Learning
Center. It offers training, workshops, festivals, networking, and

DJ Conway has a number of good books.
Amber K has good books on ritual and covens.
Scott Cunningham is a gimmee
Raymond Buckland is helpful to read
Silver Ravenwolf is helpful, and also list other recommended source. Books,
websites, groups, and periodicals.

One thing to always remember that everyone has sources they love and others they
have issues with. An author I admired wrote in their book that you will read
alot of books. Some authors you are gonna like and some you are gonna dislike,
but it is always advisable to try different authors. You will need to read alot
of frogs to find your prince. Good Luck with your journey, you are on an
exciting path. This is your spiritual journey so take control from the offset.

The only book that I loved by
Silver Raven Wolf is To Ride a Silver Broomstick. This book is her magnum opus. I have other books by her but I hve to sift through the garbage and nonsense to get the good stuff. In her magnum opus her advice on ouija bords is quite dumb and dangerous. I have a ouija board but I do NOT treat it like tarot, runes, or crystal ball.

Complete book of Witchhcraft by Raymond Buckland.

Spiral Dance by Starawk

These 2 are wonderful

GAIA:

Many (especially young people and beginners) do like her stuff -- mainly because she writes and markets especially to them --

And everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion --

But i think everyone should at least be aware that Silver is *NOT* considered a good resource by most (advanced) Wiccans, especially Wiccan High Priests and Priestesses, for several reasons -- including factual errors, mis-representations, and ethical problems in her materials.

For specifics on these problems -- including quotes from Silver's works -- please see the following article:

I highly recommend Raven Grimmasi Wiccan Magick,
and anything by Raven after that. I also concurr with the Raymond Bucklnd recommendation, as a founder of Wicca in America you can hardly get nearer the source; That said, I agree with Gaia generally on Self Initiation, do your homework, learn the basics of the craft, but if possible find a Good Coven, presided over by a Qualified Priestess if at all possible via Witch Vox.

As a Solitary of 30 years, I can tell you its one rough row to hoe, dont chose it, it will chose you if that is your intention.

Blessings, Bb.

Innana Reflections on the Historical Vision

Posted by: "blackbird" blackbird_61@yahoo.com blackbird_61

Mon Mar 14, 2011 6:44 pm (PDT)

*** Innana Reflections on the Historical Vision ***
While I keep a certain distance between my personal and the Historical Innana's my vision of both definitely informs one an other; Let me explain, The Innana we have is largely defined by the "Descent of Innana" myth, and by the Poetry of Enheduanna; while beautiful and challenging pieces of work; this vision, is in many ways the Royal Innana; It is the Innana of the State Religion, and already (c2250 BCE) was being bent to the service of a Royal House and its claim to legitimacy and the throne.

But there are very interesting things in these texts to my mind.

A Careful reading of Enheduanna reveals she is clearly a reactionary.
When she says of Innana,

You wear the Robes of the Old Old Gods.1
She clearly sees, Innana as the true inheritor of a more Ancient "Faith"
She clearly sees herself as Innana's true Priestess,
She clearly sees the State Religion, in which she is a High Priestess as a lesser shadow of what has gone before. Enheduanna's Poem: Innana and Ehib is clearly a response to and rejection of the Idea that the Goddess can be tamed; On the slopes of mount Ehib

Lion pairs
Stroll in the shade
Of stretching arch of branches.

Grey fleeced wild rams
Wide-eyed stags
Roam the hills without sheppards
Wild bulls come and go
Legs brushed by swaying grass. 2

With this Proto-Eden we can see the Idea that Nature, ie The Goddess can be tamed that her cycles can be mastered and she can be subdued the gentle mistress of man is in the air; the beginnings of the Patriarchy are in the air; and Enheduanna does not see this as an offered Paradise but as the worst sort of Blasphemy and so Innana Kills Ehib with "extreme prejudice" as we would say today. As Innana destroys Ehib Mythically,
Enheduanna hopes to destroy the Ideal represented by Ehib Scripturally; unfortunately she failed.

But, and here I know I disagree with Gaia, Enheduanna clearly saw Innana as a Goddess of the Old Religion, complete unto herself; she was not, and is not the Babylonian Ishtar who when offended by Gilgamesh much more grievously must beseech An to give her the Bull of Heaven to fight the Demi-God for her; No! when An refuses to aid Innana, "With Screech of Hinge, she flings wide, the Gate of the House of Battle" She battles this upstart God alone and destroys him utterly; compared to Innana, Ishtar is a pale tamed shadow.
And this is not the only place we see the Sumerians comfortable with the Idea of Women Wielding Weapons of War.

In the 2nd Poem Lady of the Largest Heart we see this text.

Those warrior women,
Like a single thread
Come forth from beyond the river
Do common work
In devotion to you
Whose hands sear them with purifying fire.3

Enheduanna has clearly seen these women, she clearly expects her audience has seen them; knows just who they are; women who come forth from beyond the river, so who come forth from the Wasteland; We can imagine, (without pushing the text too far here) a monastery in the Wasteland, and women culticly tied to Innana returning to Ur, to do common work. I have no doubt these women were real, and I believe in time their half forgotten memory will give rise to the legends of the Amazons, but in this moment c2250 BCE they are not a Legend, they are flesh and blood Women, and Warriors.

In the Descent of Innana, when the Galla's seek to Seize the Goddess Ninshubur and carry her off to Kur in Innana's place Innana say's

No! Ninshubur is my constant support.
She is my Sukkal who gives me wise advise.
She is my Warrior who fights by my side.
She did not forget my words. 4

And indeed Ninshubur drives off the various monsters An sends to seize the Sacred Me he has gifted to Innana back from her in a separate myth. Ninshubur "Queen of the East" like Innana needs no male champion, she is quite capable of wielding Mace and Shield on her own.

A careful reading of the text shows, Enheduanna was living at a time when women had not yet completely given up their place beside the men in battle; These Queens were Warrior Queens, not the Royal Brood Mares of Millennia to follow; despite the opinions of those who would have us believe the Patriarchy is that natural state of Humanity, and woman's Equality has only recently become technologically possible;

Enheduanna says NO! Innana says No! Enheduanna is the first Named Author in the World, and I believe she may also have been the last priestess of the "Old Religion."

And Innana, Great and Glorious Innana, Queen of Heaven Unbowed is her Goddess, and Mine.

Ama tu ANKI, BB.

Page 103 Please note IMHO all other translations are inferior; Babylonian scribes would learn their trade by copying Enheduanna for 500 years; I believe this would have been impossible if her writting was not of the highest quality poetically; and yet most Modern Translations, like "Lady of the Stoutest Heart" Vs Lady of the Largest Heart, read like dreadful soviet era hero poetry. Betty's translations have been challanged by Scholars (what of real value hasn't) and while they may be well credentialed Scholars they are dirt poor poets.

Innana a Personal Vision

Hi All,
First off my apologies for not doing as much as I would like as a moderator these last 10 days; a situation at home has rather occupied my time and energy; and I have not had the opportunities I would like to participate here; I do hope in the next few days to pick up on some recent threads before they get toooooo very old. : ) With that in mind I will start with Kalimir's question about Innana.

Very nice. Tell me more about her. I too, care for Iannana. My main goddess is Kali.
Kalimir
*** Innana a Personal Vision ***
BB re: Thanks for your interest,
I've been developing my relationship with Innana, "Nan" for something around the last 10 years; I've a long standing interest in this Goddess, as far back as the 1980's when my wife was expecting our 2nd Child, I had hoped to name her Innana-Ki if she should be a girl. Innana being a name I associate with great strength, and Ki, because the Sumerian Gaia was also a Muse of Poetry and Song; sadly that child miscarried and so she was never truly given that name.

But the interest remained,
I returned to Tarot after a long lay off in the late nineties/early 2000s not even 100% sure just now, dates have never been my strongest suit; at the time I had a very mechanistic as above so below view of what was happening with the cards; but one night just before my wife fell ill; I found myself unable to keep my eyes off this deck; I finally pulled some cards and they all made sense, but two 8 of Wands/ 10 of Pents reversed. I did not know what that meant; but at about 4:30 5:00am I was racing my wife to the hospital with a sudden flair up of Pancreatitis.

In the aftermath of that I changed my view of the Tarot radically, It was clear to me I had been warned it was clear to me the Tarot had been used as the means to convey that warning; and I began to think of the Tarot as something of a Phone to call across the ether; but who was I calling, who was on the other end.

My mind returned to that Image of the Goddess Innana, Innana-Ki I had thought to name that lost daughter years ago, and I began to invoke the goddess when I was reading; This resulted in an immediate increase in the accuracy of my readings, and a simultaneous increase in the difficulty and sharpness of the readings. It was not that the readings were at all unclear; quite the contrary they stitched together like fine garment, but they were often very very challenging to ones integrity as a reader; nearly always containing quite difficult truths; that one would not wish to be true of the Qs life; and that it would take some little moral courage to break to the Q; and while I quickly discovered the most challenging readings where often met with the greatest relief; they often gave the Q permission to admit what they already knew to be true; they remain to this day a great challenge.

That was the First thing I learned about Nan, She is a Goddess of Truth; she is Fiercely Passionate about the Truth, and has tested me time again, making quite clear I understand that if I cannot carry the water of her truth, I am of no use to her. Over the course of well over 500 readings since, I have learned a great deal about her, but largely indirectly; I don't read for myself nearly as often as I read for others, but those readings have painted something of a Portrait of Nan, almost like a glimpse at her Natal Chart might (If a Goddess could have such a chart.)

As I said Nan is Passionate about the Truth, she is also deeply concerned with relationships, and how our actions affect others; in even the most mundane readings about a Qs Job, Job Prospects, other Material interests; she will insert some aspect on how the answer to the Question will hinge on or impact the Qs relationships. Regularly ignoring the Question I present and proceeding along that line of interest. I have also come to see her as Fiercely attached to the concept of Free Will; she will almost never answer a "Should I …." Question in an unambiguous manner, and seldom gives a definitive result to a Y/N Question. I tend to use a 3 or 5 card spread to determine Y/N questions; and while the cards always provide the Q with real guidance, they almost always resolve to a null result denying a Y/N answer; as many Y/N questions have a Should I … Question laying behind them I believe this is very much the case.

I use a simple mantra to invoke Nan, "Ama tu ANKI" it is Sumerian for Mother of Heaven and Earth; I first found it in Merlin Stones Ancient Mirrors of Womanhood; as much of this book was inspired by the ancient texts, but not always accurate recoveries of ancient texts; It took me over a year to Satisfy myself this was a genuine bit of Sumerian Text. What I can say now however, is that when the Text is sung, it is a powerful invocation. I have had several people (sometimes people I don't know at all) sense her presence when I am using the chant for some reason. Such as whispering it at the Metaphysical store, while checking a Pendulum to see if it will resonate with the chant.

Nan is Purple,
She responds most strongly to the Royal Hue, I tend to use purple candles on her Alter and even have assembled a small collection of Purple Tees and pale Purple Button downs, to wear while reading. Nan can be ferocious, she does not like to be asked the same question twice, nor is she tolerant of images and effigies of other Goddesses on what she sees as her alter. Nan Loves Twilight and a Good Storm, I can sense her energy most clearly then and pull the best readings at in those moments.

While I keep a certain distance between my personal and the Historical Innana's my vision of both definitely informs one an other; Let me explain, The Innana we have is largely defined by the "Descent of Innana" myth, and by the Poetry of Enheduanna; while beautiful and challenging pieces of work; this vision, is in many ways the Royal Innana; It is the Innana of the State Religion, and already (c2250 BCE) was being bent to the service of a Royal House and its claim to legitimacy and the throne; I suspect it has little to do with how common folk working the fields, cannals, and looms of Ur would have felt about the cities patron and Goddess.

I have often said that My Spirituality informs my Fiction, and my Fiction my Spirituality.
Over time, and certainly through no intention of my own I have come to see strong Parallels between the "Nan" I have come to know through my readings and "The Ara" who is the Goddess Queen of Anar that is so central to my fiction.

Ara is the Goddess of Murian, she is also the First Murian born of a Mortal at the end of the Golden Age her birth signaled the Twilight of that age, and the birth of a new age where-in she would Rule Anar as Goddess Queen of the Murian People.

Innana comes down to us through the writings of Enheduanna, she is a vision of Goddess at the end of one age, and the birth of another (See Historical Innana Document) she is IMHO the last truly great Goddess to reach back to the time of the old old gods before the rise of the Patriarchy.

Ara is the mother of the Murian People, but her primary Identity and Role is that of "Steward of Sacred Anar." She was a "Valkyrie" for want of a better term for long ages before she accepted her destiny, was born into mortal flesh, and became the Ilmatar of the Murian People.

Innana, the Innana that comes down to us from Enheduanna is also a Warrior, and protector of the people of Ur.

Ara is a Mistress of great Magick, she has deep and innate understanding that all is vibration, and vibration is all, and her Song is laden with Magick and Drenched with Power; this is the Murian art of Bianna, or Soul Song central to the Fiction.

Sumerian Poetry has a deeply repetitive quality that Diane Wolkstein speculates was used to induce trance in the priests and their Audience; thus Sumerian Liturgy has strong Shamanistic Echoes and its in itself a form of Magic, every bit as much as any overt spell, of which many survive.

Ara is a "Mortal Goddess" an Avatar if you will; and she knows it, she carries herself with great pride.

Innana slew Ehib for not "Wiping it's nose on the ground, nor flattening its lips in the dust" as she passed. There is a deep metaphysical meaning to this, but we will discuss that else where; but she too is a Goddess of Great Pride.

Innana is Goddess of Ur; while there was much warfare back and forth in the Fertile Crescent, it is really the Arrival of the Akkadians, the people who would become the Babylonian people that really birthed the concept of Empire and Conquest, indeed Enheduanna's Father was Sargon the Great (First known Emperor in the world). I see Endeduanna's Innana as more a protector of Ur, than a Goddess of Offense and Conquest.

Ara to is content where she is, Warrior, Valkyrie, Steward of Anar; she has no desire for conquest and little desire to travel beyond the borders of her sacred home; still she is merciless to those who court her wrath by violating her borders and threatening her home; because of this combination of attributes she is known by the Chatti nations that surround Anar as "The Power that Sleeps in the Woods."

Innana was not just a "Fertility Goddess" she was a Goddess of Sensuality, in one poem she sings praises to her sacred vulva. Ara too is a very sensual Goddess, and the first night of the first Glimmering Crescent of a New Moon each month is what in the Fiction is called a Murian Moon. In this the Murians see Isis in the Arms of her Consort; and it is Murian Custom to "Share Bliss" with their Consorts to Celebrate their love with Isis. First Mother of Ara, before she was reborn into mortal flesh.

Innana's great Rival is her Sister and Shadow self; Ereshkigal. Ara's great rival is her sister and Shadow Self Tsulsala.

The very odd thing to me is that NONE of this was intended, while I have been writing the Mura stories for 10 (or 30) years depending, Ara was not that important a Character until no more than Five years ago, from say 2000 to 2005/6 the focus of the writing was on the "Daughters of Kur" Series, a series of 'Vampire' stories exploring the relationship between one of Tsusala's "Daughters" Oona, a creature best described as a Vampire, but really so much more; and the family of a human girl named Giselle. In these Stories Tsulsala is a Distant, but powerful Menace, Ara is not even mentioned once at all; it is only known that Oona was a Murian woman before she became a vampire.

Sometime around 2006 the focus of the stories shifted, first with Pandora's Lessons, Later Pandora's Letters, finally with Sacred Queens of Anar; as these stories unfolded, as I learned more and more about, Anar, the Murian and The Ara, the resonance between the Sacred Queen of Anar, and my own Goddess Guide become only very slowly apparent. It is not a year ago, that I realized as Uncompromisingly Violent Ara can be at times, that the only proper description of her I knew was Valkyrie, I did not set out to make her a Valkyrie it was her actions in the stories her fearlessness, her ferocity in battle, her Uncompromising response to anything that she precieves as a threat to Anar, that left me no other choice but to see that is just what she is/was. In hindsight it is hard to imagine I did not in some conscious way conform my vision of Nan to the Fictional Ara, or the Fictional Ara to Nan, but truly this was never my intention.

Well that's enough blurbage for one go, Brightest Blessings, BB.

I've noticed alot of members will when Joining post something like

I want to learn about... palmestry, Astrology, et al;

and then never post a single Question; and I can understand the shyness,
but honestly, it does not work; persons with the expertise cant anwser
the Questions you dont ask, and dont know what you want to know.

Still,
My point tonight is not to Scold, it's really not, if you have joined in
the last year say, and you posted such a post. I want to learn X. then
email me off list, let me know what you want to learn about. I intend to
use it to populate a Data Base, and will be posting regular Questions
based on the subjects you have expressed interest in ... lets see if we
can stir the pot.

Blessings, BB.

I don't even remember what I said when I joined, but I am learning a lot
from reading others' posts. Mostly I just like learning about energy and
magick - and I feel like I'm just barely scratching the surface. Thanks to
everyone for your wisdom.
