animal protection

         Animal Protection

Ingredients:

1 small bottle with a lid or stopper
Red silk thread or ribbon
Snip of your animal's fur
Red wax
Reflective paper (aluminum foil)

Method:

Gather your ingredients and tools for the project and charge them
with your intent. Take your snippings and tie each snipping with the
red silk thread or ribbon. Hold the tied snippets in your hand and
charge them with your own energy of protection. Place them into the
bottle. You can add catnip, protective herbs, photo's or what ever
feels good to your bottle prior to sealing it. Cover the bottle with
reflective paper or foil that has been covered on the back side with
black felt or paper. Cork the bottle.

Take your red candle or sealing stick and allow the wax to drip all
around the cork or screwcap sealing it completely. This is easily
achieved by dunking the stopper into the wax. Charge your completed
bottle with protective energy and place it nearest your pet's point
of exit and entry to your home. You can decorate your bottle as you
wish, with a ribbon or whatever you feel looks good.

Charge your bottle regularly. When you hold it in your hand, if it
feels awkward it is telling you that it needs to be charged.

Finally, remember that magic works best when it is supplemented by
efforts of the mundane, so practice responsible pet ownership.

Love, Light and Abundant Blessings,
LadyHawk

Nerve De-Frazzler Tarot Spread

Nerve De-Frazzler Tarot Spread

We spend much of our lives ruled by our emotions. It's how we feel about people, things, events and situations that drive us forward or send us running.
When you're in the middle of a situation which has your emotions running high you can find piece of mind by understanding how far the situation has to run before it reaches a climax or conclusion.

What to do:
Take your Tarot deck and separate the Cups of the minor arcana from the pack (you don't need the court cards).

Shuffle the 10 cards then select one at random. This represents how far along you are from the situation reaching a conclusion. If you picked the 10 of Cups then do no more! Things will be evening out for you in the very near future.

Place your card back but remember it. Take out the Ace and the 10 of Cups. Put them in front of you with the Ace to your left and the 10 to your right and a gap for the remainder cards the middle.
Shuffle the 8 remaining cards (including the one you have previously picked) then, in a random fashion, place the cards face down from left to right.

Turn over the cards and find the one you have previously picked. How near it is to the 10 is how much further you need to persevere with the situation and how near it is to the Ace is the progress you've already made.

The cards between your card and the 10 show possible challenges or blessings you may encounter before the situation is finished.

Love, Light and Abundant Blessings,
LadyHawk

Clear the Way for Wealth

Clear the Way for Wealth
Monday

Color of the day: Gray
Incense of the day: Clary sage

To manifest abundance, we must first clear away energetic congestion and create the space for wealth to enter. This ritual is a bit time consuming, but it's worth it. Make sure you drink water throughout.
Clear as much clutter as you can from your home.
Add eight drops of cedar oil to your cleaning solution(s) and thoroughly clean your house.
Go through your wallet and/or purse, discarding receipts, gum wrappers, and other extraneous items.
Shower or bathe
Light eight sticks of frankincense incense and hold them together in a bundle. While holding a dish under the incense to catch ash and embers, walk around the perimeter of each room in your home while repeating:
I now clear the way for wealth to enter.
Once you've finished, burn the incense around your wallet and/or purse, and then your body, while still repeating the magic words.

How Crystals W

How Crystals Work
New Age, Metaphysical, crystals and healing stones
an article by Michael McKnight at The Crystal Ball
What are healing crystals and do they really work ?

First ....Live and let Live....Please
Before I go on let me state for the record, that I believe that the use of crystals, aromatherapy, herbs, vitamins, sound, light, or any other form of alternative treatment is a matter of personal choice. I am not, nor do I recommend the conversion of those that choose not to participate in these other gifts from the universal spirit. I pick no fight with those of various religious doctrine who oppose these ideas, and ask only for the same courtesy in return.
----------------------------------------------------------
TWO RULES OF CRYSTAL WORK
RULE NO. 1 - There are no rules for use of crystals or minerals in healing.
RULE NO. 2 - For all other rules refer to RULE NO. 1....!!!! Introduction
My name is Michael McKnight and I am co-owner of The Crystal Ball LLC, I am a goldsmith, a merchant, a father, , a sweetie of my wife Diane, BUT NOT A PROFESSIONAL JOURNALIST. This is my first attempt at writing any type of article so please forgive my journalistic ineptness in advance. The following article is a statement of my opinion regarding the use of crystals for healing. These thoughts are the result of observation over the last 10 years I have been involved with these beautiful gifts from God through the abundant earth. The Healing Crystal.....???? To begin, lets explore The Healing Crystals. Many folks come through our door and want to know where are the Healing Crystals ? People of all walks of life come to us almost every day and ask about The Healing Crystal.

Perhaps they had seen a TV talk show or read an article in a magazine that referred to someone using crystals to do physical or emotional healing, and want to find out more about these crystalline miracle makers. First of all, you should be aware that there isn't just ONE crystal that is the all powerful Healer, but rather many many different crystals and minerals that can be of benefit to us just as there are many different traditional drugs. They come in all shapes and sizes, colors, and compositions.

By the time many folks find us or shops similar to ours, they may have been through some scary or at least challenging times in their lives and looking some relief, quickly if possible. It would be convenient if we could simply pull out The Healing Crystal, but I'm afraid that it's not that simple. A bit more education is in order before the best crystal or mineral can be selected for the kind of help that is being sought. What I suspect that most people are referring to would be the clear quartz crystal that most every one has seen at one time in their lives. To be sure, the quartz crystal has a lot going for it in terms of public recognition. Many practitioners that use crystals and minerals for healing work would agree that the quartz crystal in various shapes and sizes is truly one of the most versatile and useful crystals the earth has to offer.

Metaphysically, the quartz crystal can be easily programmed to help provide a positive outcome. It can clear away negative energy from the aura and re-align the chakra (energy) centers of the body. It can be useful in long distance healing through imaging and meditation. It is beyond the scope of this article to have a full discourse of quartz crystals. You can find many books written about crystal healing and you will see that discussion of quartz crystals in these books usually takes a lions share of the space, and rightfully so.

There are Other Healing Crystals ?
There are many different approaches towards the use of crystals and minerals in regard to healing. The one we use at our shop for recommendations is to simply associate the various crystals and minerals with their healing color.

Why use Color ?
Because it is relatively easy to learn the color healing system, and once it is learned you can use it to quickly identify what crystal or mineral to use for specific healing. The use of color to create or alter certain emotions or moods has long been an excepted practice by many traditional professional mental health doctors and care givers. We also borrow from ancient eastern culture to further associate these colors to the various chakra centers in the body. A chakra is an energy center of which there 7 major centers starting with the root located at the base of the spine and ending a the crown of the head. Each chakra has an associated color (or colors) and each of these colors can be easily associated with the colors of the crystals or minerals which affect that area of the body.
Here is a list of the 7 major chakras and their associated colors:

1st chakra - The ROOT
Primary color is red, other colors associated with the Root Chakra are black brown, and gray.
Gemstones like Garnet or Onyx, Red Jasper

2nd chakra - The Naval
Primary color is orange, others are all various shades of orange.
Gemstones like Carnelian, orange Zincite

3rd chakra - The Solar Plexus
Primary color is yellow, others are various shades of yellow.
Gemstones like Citrine, Yellow Sapphire, yellow topaz

4th chakra - The Heart
Primary color is green and shades of green, the secondary color is pink.
Gemstones like Rose Quartz or Green Tourmaline or aventurine

5th chakra - The Throat
Primary color is light blue like aqua or turquoise, secondary colors are various shades of lighter blues.
Gemstones like Turquoise or Blue Lace Agate

6th chakra - The Third eye ( or brow)
Primary color is dark blue or various shades of dark blue.
Gemstones like Lapis Lazuli or Sodalite

7th chakra - The Crown
Primary color is purple, the secondary colors are shades of purple and colorless (clear) or white.
Gemstones like Amethyst or Clear Quartz

----------------------------------------------------------

If you can memorize (or print-out) these associated colors with their chakra centers, you can then go anywhere and pick out a crystal or mineral that will help with the affected area.

Now having said all of that, you must remember that each kind of crystal and mineral can and does have other transformational properties that are specific to that crystal or mineral. When you want to acquire more in depth knowledge about these properties, buy or check out one or more of the many books that cover this subject. But in the meantime you now have enough information to make a reasonably good pick by using the associated color method.

What about the necessary size and quality of crystals/minerals ?

It has been shown through Kerlian photography that the aura or energy fields surrounding objects extend a considerable distance from its core. Remember I am among other things a merchant and as such have a vested interest in selling things. The bigger things usually cost more and create more profits, however, the truth of the matter is even small, lesser quality crystal / mineral, in essence have the same energy fields as bigger more expensive ones. It becomes a matter of personal taste and pocket-book after the right kind of crystal is picked.

Do I need to wear a crystal / mineral or can
I just carry one to get the benefits ?
As a goldsmith I should advise in favor of wearing a piece, but the truth is either method is good, again a matter of taste and pocket-book.
OK, OK, but how do they actually work ??
Fact is I don't really know, but it must have something to do with faith, believing, imaging, and the greater god consciousness that is beyond words or speech. I know that there are nice folks out there in the world that would never believe that a rock or such could ever help them in any way. If it is true that we actually live many many lives and reincarnation is fact, then these people are simply in a particular incarnation that precludes them from having such beliefs (this time around).

Unfortunately, pain is one of our great motivator's and equalizers. This could be physical or emotional pain, but it does have a way of getting our attention, and opening our minds to things which may give us some relief from this pain. But it's not always pain that gives us incentive to search beyond our past experience for new solutions or answers.

Sometimes it's just a need to break away from old habits, maybe find a new career that can be fulfilling, or to find a new mate with which we will be proud to share our lives. Personally I believe that crystals can be effective if we empower them to help us. They work on the subtle energy level at our core and out in our auras.

I'm very much of a pragmatist in these matters, if you have a screaming headache, I say take a few ADVIL. Some folks will hold the crystal and/or slowly move it over a painful area of the body, for example a bad knee, or sore shoulder. Sometimes a steady lessening of pain can be experienced from this practice. It can be used in conjunction with conventional treatments, and can be seen as a pro- active step in-between doctor visits.

There are many ways that we can help ourselves to heal and participate in our own recovery, using crystals is surely one of them.

Clearing , Cleaning and Programming our Crystals

Crystals are a tool and can be like a storage battery of thought energy. Many years ago Dr. Norman Vincent Peal made quite a name for himself after his book The Power of Positive Thinking was released. There are now many followers of his teachings, who have received countless blessings as a result of thinking positive thoughts.

Crystals can be programmed with our thought energy and then act behind the scenes to work on our subtle energy fields. They also to help to create situations in our lives that will lead us in the directions that allow positive growth and healing. In a way it is like using the ideas taught by Dr. Peal and taking it a step farther.

Clearing your new crystal or mineral

Clearing a crystal or mineral is a simple enough task and it is a way to insure that there are no left over negative energies from the party that you obtained the crystal from. It is also not a slap at those who had the crystal before you, rather a way to personalize it and create a new energy bond between you and your new partner. There are many ways to accomplish this, this is one way:
Make sure you are not going to be disturbed (maybe like in the bathroom). Hold your new crystal under room temperature running water, and as the water cascades over the piece, close your eyes and imagine that all negative energies are being washed away down the drain and out to the ocean to be purified. We use a channeled prayer by Dael Walker from years ago before we do the clearing and the prayer alone seems strong enough to clear any negativity from a crystal or a whole building. This is the prayer, it is know as the

Light Invocation:
I invoke the Light of God within. I am a clear and perfect channel. Light is my Guide.
We were told to repeat this prayer three times in a row aloud.

Then to say what it is that we wish to accomplish, as clearly as possible so that our subconscious will not be confused with the message or request. This works to clear crystals but I still prefer to use the running water as part of the personalization ceremony. REMEMBER RULE NO. 1 above, however and learn to trust your own instincts.

Programming your crystal or mineral

Simply hold your crystal in your hand(s) and close your eyes then in your minds eye create an image of what you want to occur.
That's it.

Cleaning your Crystals

I recommend luke warm water a new tooth brush and Joy lemon scented liquid dish soap. Please be aware, that there are a few crystals that may be sensitive to water, and you should be made aware of them at the time of purchase. Be careful of halite, hanksite, other salt related crystals, will dissolve if left in water too long. The crystals like to be cleaned and just sparkle their little hearts out each time you do this. Be sure to rinse well and either blow them off with your own air or pat them dry with soft towel.

A few words about Gold or Silver settings.

Gold is ruled by the Sun a masculine planet, and therefore imparts a more assertive energy to crystals & minerals that are mounted in it. Silver is ruled by the Moon a feminine planet, and therefore imparts a softened less assertive emotional energy to crystals & minerals that are mounted in it. You know what you need so choose accordingly. Conclusion It is my hope that this article has helped to shed some light on the subject. In the meantime We at The Crystal Ball wish you all well, and hope you have a healthy and prosperous rest of your life...
Michael & Diane McKnight

Ayurveda

Ayurveda

I. What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a complete system of health for the body, mind, and
spirit which has been practiced in India and Sri Lanka for over 3,000
years. there are 8 branches of ayurvedic medicine which are
practically integrated on every level. They include:
Surgery,medicine,gynecology,pediatric,toxicology,otorhinlaryngology,rejuvenation
,virilification
therapy. Ayruveda has turned into a thriving science with more the
500 new hospitals and companies set up in India in the last 10 years
alone. Orthodox physicians now work hand in hand with Ayruvedic ones.
The basic Ayurvedic belief is that everything within the universe,
including ourselves, is composed of various combinations of the five
elements and that there are three forces ( called Tridoshas) through
which these elements are manifested. In order to stay healthy, we must
maintain the natural balance of all these elements. treatment for the
ailing is aimed at restoring the disturbed mechanism.

II. Diagnosing the problem.
Examination of the patient may involve the ten-fold examination
and/or the eightfold examination. These help to evaluate the strength
of the disease.
The ten-fold examination involves 1) body constitution 2)
Pathological site 3) Tissue vitality 4) Physical Build 5) Body
measurement 6) Adaptability 7) Psychic constitution 8) Digestive
capacity 9) Capacity for exercise 10) Age
The eight-fold examination involves 1)examination of the pulse
2)examination of the tongue 3)examination of the skin 4)examination of
the eye 5) examination of general appearance 6) examination of urine
7)examination of the stool 8) examination of the blood.
Major differences between the two examinations are basically this:
in the ten-fold you are measuring things you cant see visibly , in the
eight-fold you are examining things you can see.

III. Treatment
Ayurveda treatment consists of prevention treatment, internal
cures, external cures, surgery, and psychotherapy prescribed jointly or
separately depending upon the disease, its prognosis and the state of
the patient.
Prevention Treatment includes personal hygiene
rejuvenation,virilification(aphrodisiacs) Yoga.
Internal cures include purification(enema,blood letting)
External cures include massage, application of pastes and
powders,various gargles and physiotherapy.
Surgery rarely preformed today but records reveal wide successful
uses in the past.
Psychotherapy is the spiritual aspect. It is also based on
restraining the mind from desires for unwholesome objects and the
cultivation of concentration, courage and memory.

IV. Causes of Disease

In Ayurvedic medicine an imbalance of the doshas that govern and
indeed makeup our physical and mental health is responsible for
disease. Imbalance has three causes
1) The abnormal of unhealthy contact of sense organs.
Rightful perception is the result of coordinating your sensory
apparatus with your mind and soul. As long as external stimuli are
within normal limits, and the response of your body is also within
physiological limits, it is suitable for your body and wholesome
contact. Only when the stimuli exceeds the normal range do they become
stressful and the body responds abnormally.
2) Errors in Judgement
This category includes all misconducts following from misconceptions
of the intellect. Overuse, disuse and misuse when it comes to ones
body, mind and speech lead to stress on the body and mind, ultimately
causing imbalance of the doshas and development of diseases. Misuse of
the body includes suppression of natural urges, indulgences in rash
acts, overindulgence in sex acts, moving in improper places and at
improper times and abusing the body. Misuse of speech includes
indulgence in language that is untrue, unpleasant, incoherent, harsh
and quarrelsome. Misuse of your mind includes giving way to
fear,grief,envy and disrespect.

3) Influence of Time and Season
Season and other time factors relate to the process intimately. The
year is classified into three periods: winter, summer, and rain. When a
seasons characteristics are exaggerated this is season excess. When
its characteristics are less than normal, this is deficiency. When a
season has features that are contradictory to its nature it is said to
be an abnormality. So if a situation occurred where all these errors of
season were present, it would result in an imbalance of doshas and
ultimately a manifestation of disease.
How to put it all together now!

You have come across a few familiar words in the previous sections.
Now it is my turn to make this all english for you and have it make
sense. Stay with me the painful part is over I swear.

Panchamahabutas ( or bhutas)
In Ayurveda , the five elements collectively are called
Panchamahabhutas. All matter in the universe is made up of the 5 in
various proportions. The 5 elements are Water, Air, Space, Earth and
Fire. They combine with the soul under the forces of the Tridoshas to
create a living being. each bhuta has specific qualities and inherent
qualities.
Water is in plasma, saliva, digestive juices, the mucus membranes and
cytoplasm( or cell water)
Earth manifests in the solid structures such as the
bones,nails,teeth,muscles,cartilage,tendons and hair.
Space corresponds to the spaces in the body, the
mouth,nose,thorax,abdomen,and respiratory tract.
Air is the element of movement so it represent muscular
movement, pulsation, expansion and contracting of lungs, intestines, and
cellular movement.
Fire controls enzyme functioning, shows itself as intelligence, fuels
the body, and regulates metabolism( burn that fat off! lol)

Now with that in your head ( and you got all that right?) you can see
how it all ties into the tridoshas.

Tridoshas
The tridoshas or three doshas are the most basic factors that make up
the human body and govern function and structure. when we are healthy
our doshas are in balance, meaning that they are where they should be
in relation to one another, not that they are equal.

Vata
People who have a dominant vata dosha are referred to as vata people.

Ayurveda

I. What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a complete system of health for the
body, mind, and
spirit which has been practiced in India and Sri Lanka for
over 3,000
years. there are 8 branches of ayurvedic medicine which
are
practically integrated on every level. They
include:
Surgery,medicine,gynecology,pediatric,toxicology,otorhinlaryngology,rejuvenation
,virilification
therapy.
Ayruveda has turned into a thriving science with more the
500 new hospitals
and companies set up in India in the last 10 years
alone. Orthodox physicians
now work hand in hand with Ayruvedic ones.
The basic Ayurvedic belief is that
everything within the universe,
including ourselves, is composed of various
combinations of the five
elements and that there are three forces ( called
Tridoshas) through
which these elements are manifested. In order to stay
healthy, we must
maintain the natural balance of all these elements.
treatment for the
ailing is aimed at restoring the disturbed
mechanism.

II. Diagnosing the problem.
Examination of the patient may
involve the ten-fold examination
and/or the eightfold examination. These help
to evaluate the strength
of the disease.
The ten-fold examination involves
1) body constitution 2)
Pathological site 3) Tissue vitality 4) Physical
Build 5) Body
measurement 6) Adaptability 7) Psychic constitution 8)
Digestive
capacity 9) Capacity for exercise 10) Age
The eight-fold
examination involves 1)examination of the pulse
2)examination of the tongue
3)examination of the skin 4)examination of
the eye 5) examination of general
appearance 6) examination of urine
7)examination of the stool 8) examination
of the blood.
Major differences between the two examinations are basically
this:
in the ten-fold you are measuring things you cant see visibly , in
the
eight-fold you are examining things you can see.

III.
Treatment
Ayurveda treatment consists of prevention
treatment,internal
cures,external cures,surgery,and psychotherapy prescribed
jointly or
separately depending upon the disease, its prognosis and the state
of
the patient.
Prevention Treatment includes personal
hygiene
rejuvenation,virilification(aphrodisiacs) Yoga.
Internal cures
include purification(enema,blood letting)
External cures include
massage,application of pastes and
powders,various gargles and
physiotherapy.
Surgery rarely preformed today but records reveal wide
successful
uses in the past.
Psychotherapy is the spiritual aspect. It is
also based on
restraining the mind from desires for unwholesome objects and
the
cultivation of concentration, courage and memory.

IV. Causes
of Disease

In Ayurvedic medicine an imbalance of the doshas that govern
and
indeed makeup our physical and mental health is responsible
for
disease. Imbalance has three causes
1) The abnormal of unhealthy
contact of sense organs.
Rightful perception is the result of coordinating
your sensory
apparatus with your mind and soul. As long as external stimuli
are
within normal limits, and the response of your body is also
within
physiological limits, it is suitable for your body and
wholesome
contact. Only when the stimuli exceeds the normal range do they
become
stressful and the body responds abnormally.
2) Errors in
Judgement
This category includes all misconducts following from
misconceptions
of the intellect. Overuse, disuse and misuse when it comes to
ones
body, mind and speech lead to stress on the body and mind,
ultimately
causing imbalance of the doshas and development of diseases.
Misuse of
the body includes suppression of natural urges, indulgences in
rash
acts, overindulgence in sex acts, moving in improper places and
at
improper times and abusing the body. Misuse of speech
includes
indulgence in language that is untrue, unpleasant, incoherent,
harsh
and quarrelsome. Misuse of your mind includes giving way
to
fear,grief,envy and disrespect.

3) Influence of Time and
Season
Season and other time factors relate to the process intimately.
The
year is classified into three periods: winter, summer, and rain. When
a
seasons characteristics are exaggerated this is season excess. When
its
characteristics are less than normal, this is deficiency. When a
season has
features that are contradictory to its nature it is said to
be an
abnormality. So if a situation occurred where all these errors of
season were
present, it would result in an imbalance of doshas and
ultimately a
manifestation of disease.
How to put it all together now!

You have
come across a few familiar words in the previous sections.
Now it is my turn
to make this all english for you and have it make
sense. Stay with me the
painful part is over I swear.

Panchamahabutas ( or bhutas)
In Ayurveda
, the five elements collectively are called
Panchamahabhutas. All matter in
the universe is made up of the 5 in
various proportions. The 5 elements are
Water, Air, Space, Earth and
Fire. They combine with the soul under the
forces of the Tridoshas to
create a living being. each bhuta has specific
qualities and inherent
qualities.
Water is in plasma, saliva, digestive
juices, the mucus membranes and
cytoplasm( or cell water)
Earth manifests
in the solid structures such as
the
bones,nails,teeth,muscles,cartilage,tendons and hair.
Space
corresponds to the spaces in the body, the
mouth,nose,thorax,abdomen,and
respiratory tract.
Air is the element of movement so it represent
muscular
movement,pulsation,expansion and contracting of lungs,intestines,
and
cellular movement.
Fire controls enzyme functioning, shows itself as
intelligence,fuels
the body, and regulates metabolism( burn that fat off!
lol)

Now with that in your head ( and you got all that right?) you
can see
how it all ties into the tridoshas.

Tridoshas
The tridoshas
or three doshas are the most basic factors that make up
the human body and
govern function and structure. when we are healthy
our doshas are in balance,
meaning that they are where they should be
in relation to one another, not
that they are equal.

referred to as vata people.

Cosmic Calendar for today

Posted by: "LadyHawk_Jax" ladyhawk_jax@yahoo.com   ladyhawk_jax

Tue Jul 12, 2011 6:53 am (PDT)

July 12, 2011

Uncertainty is about to regain center stage - especially as the Moon in Sagittarius opposes Mars in Gemini (4:57AM PDT) and the lunar orb begins a long void cycle at 5:22AM PDT during what should be an uplifting trine of 120-degrees with communication-master Mercury. From this clock time until 7:15AM PDT tomorrow - a span of 25+ hours - it is wise to finish projects begun during the last few weeks, but not launch bold, new ventures.

Nevertheless, exploring the healing arts and advances on the cutting edge of alternative medicine makes sense as the Sun forms a 135-degree tie to Chiron (8:19AM PDT). The 135-degree aspect is usually a discordant one, but when the Sun is tuning into the presence of Chiron, you may be able to tweak this alignment to your advantage.

Before you know it, the next Full Moon will be lighting up the evening skies of Thursday July 14. The two days before any Full Moon are to be considered days of preparation - when it is a good idea to eliminate negative behavior patterns and ways of thinking. Opening your heart and mind to enlightenment may reinforce your ability to escape the karmic chains that bind you to past actions, old traumas and dashed hopes.

Be cautious on the love front overnight as Venus in Cancer squares off with Saturn in Libra (forming exactly at 12:37AM PDT on Wednesday).

Love, Light and Abundant Blessings,
LadyHawk

The Power of Not Knowing

There is freedom in admitting that you don’t know something as that allows for a new learning experience to emerge.

There is wisdom in not knowing, and it is a wise person who can say, "I don't know." For no one knows everything. There are many types of wisdom - from intellectual to emotional to physical intelligence. Yet, even deemed experts in their fields do not know all there is to know about mathematics, yoga, literature, psychology, or art. It is a true master who professes ignorance, for only an empty vessel can be filled.

There are many things in life that we don't know, and there are many things we may have no interest in finding out. There is freedom in saying “I don’t know.” When we admit that we don't know something, we can then open ourselves up to the opportunity to learn. And there is power in that. We can’t possibly know everything. And when we think we do, we limit ourselves from growing and learning more than what we already do know. A person who can admit to not knowing tends to be more intellectually and emotionally confident than someone who pretends to know everything. They also tend to be more comfortable with who they are and don’t feel the need to bluff or cover up any perceived ignorance. People can actually end up appearing more foolish when they act as if they know something that they don't.

We would be wise to respect people who freely admit when they don't know something. They are being honest, with us and with themselves. And we, too, should feel no shame in saying, "I don't know." In doing so, we open ourselves up to the unknown. We can then discover what lies beyond our current levels of understanding. It is the wise person in life that answers questions with a question and inspires the pursuit of internal answers with a funny face, a shrug, and a comical, "I don't know."

Love, Light and Abundant Blessings,
LadyHawk

Two Sides to Every Thought

Posted by: "LadyHawk_Jax" ladyhawk_jax@yahoo.com   ladyhawk_jax

Two Sides To Every Thought
By Cheri Hickman
There are two sides to every thought. What you want and want you don’t want. Therefore, there is good in every thought. Of course, that depends on how you feel about those thoughts. So often we think we are focusing on what we want, when in reality, we are still thinking of what we don’t want.
For instance: “I sure wish I had enough money in my bank account to cover the bills.” This thought is focusing on the “lack” of money. The other side of that would be: “I love it when I have enough money in the bank account to cover the bills.”
Being aware of our thoughts and what we keep creating in our life is the basis of all of our abundance. Some people are just naturally “lucky”, as some would say. They are the people that “go with the flow” and keep their spirits up. When they keep their spirits up, they are walking around with a high vibration that attracts all the good into their lives.
We all know people who walk into a room and the energy shifts immediately. It becomes lighter and refreshing. These are our miracle workers. We wonder “Why do they have all the luck?” Believe me, we could have “all the luck” if we went with the flow and enjoyed life more. Life is meant to be lived with ease and in joy. I get the opportunity to practice saying that quite often just to keep reminding myself how to be.
As you go through your day, start paying attention to your thoughts. Be aware of how often you are thinking about what you don’t want, versus what you really do want. I hate using the word “want”. Want is all about lack.
Start keeping track of what you intend to have or do during the day and what your gains are. Get yourself a notepad of some sort.
At the beginning of the day, write down your intentions for that day. I am having a joyous day today. I have great fun with the people I meet today. I received an additional $100 today. I feel great when I come home to a clean house. You get the idea. Write it down as though it has already happened. Feel as though it already happened. See what happens at the end of the day.
Then write down any gains you had during the day. Such as: I feel really good today. I had fun with the people I met today. I saved $10.00 on the purchase of a new coat today. I received a $20.00 rebate in the mail. I found a penny on the ground. (If you don’t appreciate a penny how can you appreciate a $100 bill?) My spouse cleaned the house today.
As you play with this exercise, you will find that you attract more good into your life. You will find that you start switching your thoughts from what you don’t “want” to what you do “intend”. You will find that you start to live life with more joy and ease.
Love, Light and Abundant Blessings,
LadyHawk

Elder's Meditation of the Day

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"In sharing, in loving all and everything, one people naturally found a due portion of the thing they sought, while in fearing, the other found need of conquest."

-- Chief Luther Standing Bear, SIOUX

There are two systems of thought that are available for us to choose from. One is the love-thought system and the other is the fear- thought system. If we choose love, we will see the laws, principles and values of the Creator. If we choose fear, the results will be so paralyzing that it will cause us to take over and not rely on the Great Spirit. The fear-thought system will automatically cause attack, conflict, need to control over others. The love-thought system seeks peace of mind, unity and causes us to be love seekers.

Great Spirit, today let me see only love.

How Tarot Cards Work

How Tarot Cards Work

In most people's minds, "Tarot card reading" means a woman in flowing robes, leaning over a small table in a candlelit room, foretelling impending doom.

But that's not really what Tarot cards are about. In fact, they're not even really meant to tell your fortune or future. According to The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, "The most powerful sources of information come from within; the Tarot aids in coming in contact with one's Higher Self."

But what does that mean? In this article, we'll look at the various ideas about where Tarot cards come from, what they mean and how a deck of cards can possibly tell you anything about yourself. You'll learn why it matters where the cards fall and why you don't have to be a psychic to do a Tarot reading.

Types of Readings
There are actually two different types of Tarot readings: question readings and open readings.

Question Readings
In question readings, you are addressing a specific question. Tarot is not intended to answer specific yes or no questions. Most say it also shouldn't be used to make decisions, but instead should be used as a guide to help you make the decision yourself. For this reason, the way a question is stated is very important. According to Joan Bunning, a Tarot reader and teacher, questions should:

Keep your options open: If you have the answer before the reading, then you're not allowing the cards to guide your overall decision. Bunning gives this example: Asking how you could encourage your mother-in-law to move out, as opposed to asking how you can get along better with her, is narrowing the scope of the true question by answering it before you even get started.

Find the best level of detail: Your question should be focused, but not overly detailed. Rather than looking at one particular aspect of a problem, find a way to look more broadly at it. For example, rather than asking how you can make your home life less chaotic, ask how you can better balance kid schedules and adult schedules. That is a focused question. But do not go so far as to ask how you can coordinate baseball, soccer and Cub Scout schedules and still have family time -- that's too detailed. Only include the minimum level of detail needed in order to express what you want to learn from the cards.

Focus on yourself: If the reading is for yourself, make sure your question focuses on you rather than on someone else who you think may be the root of your problem. For example, asking why your son is experimenting with drugs is focusing on him, not you. Asking what role you play in your son's decision to experiment with drugs brings the focus of the question back to you.

Stay neutral: In order to stay open to other points of view, your question has to be neutral and not convey a preconceived notion that your view is necessarily the right one. The cards can give you guidance if you ask for it. For example, asking why you're doing more work around the house than your spouse isn't neutral; asking how you can get more cooperation from your spouse when it comes to housework is neutral.

Be positive: Make sure your question is stated in a positive rather than negative way. Instead of asking why a specific event hasn't happened, ask what you can do to help make that event happen.

Open Readings
Open readings address the larger aspects of your life rather than a specific problem area or question. They're usually done when you're entering a new phase of life, such as getting married, graduating from college or starting a family. You can somewhat direct the reading if you have a general area you want to cover, such as your career or health, but that's as specific as the direction gets.

The Tarot Deck

There are many varieties of Tarot decks, and there is no standard number of cards across all decks. While the types of cards, the suits and their meanings are the same, the illustrations vary greatly. Decks are based on various themes such as nature, animals, fantasy, dragons, etc. The most common deck in the United States is the Rider-Waite deck, which was created in 1909 by A.E. Waite, a prominent member of the occult group the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and published by Rider & Company. The artist was Pamela Colman Smith. This 78-card deck was the only readily available deck in the United States for many years, which is why it is considered the "definitive" tarot deck in the United States. According to The Hermitage: A Tarot History Site, however, there is no "definitive" tarot deck.

The Tarot deck is made up of the Minor Arcana and the Major Arcana. Like regular playing cards, the Minor Arcana of the Tarot deck includes four suits. Rather than spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs, however, the suits are:

wands
swords
cups
circles or pentacles

Each suit has meaning regarding a specific approach to life. The cards within these suits are numbered one through 10 and also include the court cards -- the king, queen, knight and page. The Minor Arcana cards represent the more minor, practical daily ups and downs in life.

The Major Arcana are not associated with the suits. They include the picture cards that represent principles, concepts and ideals. They are numbered one through 21, with the 22nd card (the "Fool") marked as zero. The Major Arcana cards represent strong, long-term energy or big events in some area of life.

Cards of the Major Arcana: Temperance, Death, The Fool and The Hanged Man

Seeing a Major Arcana card about a particular subject in one reading and then getting a Minor Arcana card about the same subject in the next reading would mean that this subject is becoming less important in your life. To check out various explanations of specific card meanings, see:

The Tarot Spread

Before a reading is performed, the cards are shuffled by the person receiving the reading. Some say this transfers that person's energy to the deck. The person receiving the reading should also be concentrating on the question or area for which they want guidance while he or she shuffles the deck. In some more traditional circles, a more elaborate sorting and separation of the cards is performed (see The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn Web site for this version).
Once the cards are shuffled and the deck has been cut, the reader lays out the cards in a pattern called the spread. Each position in the spread has a meaning, and there are many different types of spreads, ranging from those that incorporate a single card to spreads that include all 78 cards of the deck. Which spread is used is up to the reader and the specific type of question or reading. Some spreads focus more on a specific type of information. For example, one spread might focus more on emotional matters, while another might bring in more information about the influences of others. One of the most common spreads is the Celtic Cross:

Celtic Cross Tarot spread

There are many more spreads for Tarot card reading, and readers can even make up their own. For more Tarot card spreads, see Angel Paths.
Below, using the Celtic Cross spread as an example, you can see that there is an order in which the cards are laid down for the spread and that each card position within the spread has a meaning. There are many different meanings that each position can have -- it all depends on who you ask. This set of meanings comes from the Angel Paths Tarot and Healing Web site. The card meanings (see Individual Tarot Cards and the next section) are combined with the position meanings. In addition, combinations of cards or card pairings also affect meanings.

In the next section, we'll step through a reading to show how the card meanings can be combined with positions and pairings to reach an interpretation.

Once the cards are laid out, their meanings are interpreted based on their positions and their neighboring cards. Let's look at the Celtic Cross spread:

Here is an approach for reading the Celtic Cross spread according to Tarot reader and teacher Joan Bunning [Source: Learn Tarot]. At the right, you can see how this tarot reader and teacher interprets some of the Major Arcana cards.

What do They Mean?
Tarot cards have different meanings depending on where they fall in the spread. Here are a few of the face cards and their various meanings:
Death: Ending; Transition; Elimination; Inexorable forces
The Fool: Beginning; Spontaneity; Faith; Apparent folly
The High Priestess: Nonaction; Unconscious awareness; Potential; Mystery
The Lovers: Relationship; Sexuality; Personal beliefs; Values
The Magician: Action; Conscious awareness; Concentration; Power
For more meanings, see Joan Bunning: Individual Tarot Cards.

Begin by looking at the Circle/Cross section. The cards in this position represent what is happening in your life at the time of the reading.

Next, look at the first six cards in pairs. These cards paint a picture of your immediate situation. The cards in position 1 (the central issue) and position 2 (the secondary issue that can either be opposing or reinforcing) will identify the central theme of the reading. The cards in position 3 (the root cause that can be an unconscious influence or deeper meaning) and position 5 (your attitudes and beliefs, a conscious influence, your goal or an alternate future) represent things that are going on within you at different levels. And, the cards in position 4 (your past, a receding influence or something that has been resolved) and position 6 (the future or an approaching influence or unresolved factor) represent how people and events are flowing through your life.

Next, look at the Staff section of the spread, again considering cards in pairs. Looking at the cards in position 7 (as you are, as you could be, as you present yourself and as you see yourself) and position 8 (your outside environment, someone else's point of view and you as others see you) tells you about your relationship with your environment.

Finally, look at the card in position 10 (the outcome-overall, your inner state, your actions or effects) to see the projected outcome.
Joan Bunning suggests to then ask yourself how you feel about the projected outcome. What does it say to you?
Go back and review the cards that led up to that outcome, and see if there is a card that stands out as they key to that outcome. Then, look back at card 5 to see if the projected outcome is also shown as an alternate outcome there. Look at the card representing the near future in position 6 to see if it supports or contributes to the projected outcome. Finally, look at the card in position 9 (guidance, key factors, hopes and fears or overlooked factors) to see there is any relevance there.

Reversed Cards
Because Tarot cards each have one picture that faces in one direction, it is possible that cards will be facing the opposite direction when dealt. According to most sources, this doesn't change the meaning of the card, but simply weakens the impact of the meaning.

Becoming a Tarot Card Reader

To learn the art of Tarot card reading, you can read books, take courses and even become certified. Courses are taught online and in classes through Tarot organizations and through independent Tarot teachers.
There are seven levels of certification awarded through the Tarot Certification Board of America. In order to achieve these certifications, you must have varying levels of experience as well as pass standardized tests. The certification levels include:

Certified Apprentice Tarot Reader (CATR)
Certified Tarot Reader (CTR)
Certified Professional Tarot Reader (CPTR)
Certified Tarot Consultant (CTC)
Certified Tarot Master (CTM)
Certified Tarot Instructor (CTI)
Certified Tarot Grandmaster (CTGM)

There is also an American Board for Tarot Certification that offers five levels of certification:

Tarot Associate (TA)
Tarot Professional (TP)
Tarot Masters (TM)
Tarot Education (TE)
Tarot Sage (TS)

Other countries also have their own Tarot-certifying organizations.

Tarot-card Philosophy

How can randomly drawn cards have any relevance to someone's life and what's happening in it? What most readers say the Tarot can enlighten you about are the choices you have. The cards don't tell you what you should do or what specifically is going to happen in your future, but rather the possibilities depending on the path you take. Let's look at some of the theories behind how Tarot cards could possibly work.

Synchronicity
Carl Jung believed that in addition to the repeatable cause-and-effect relationships on which the scientific world is so strongly based, there is also another connecting principle that does not share that cause-and-effect relationship. He called this principle synchronicity. According to Jung, synchronicity explains the guiding forces in the universe. Things we might see as coincidence are actually signs that can help us make decisions and guide our lives -- if we recognize them.

Jung believed that quantum mechanics could be a possible explanation for the phenomenon of synchronicity. (Quantum mechanics explains the relationships of particles and their random interconnectivity, with behaviors being probabilities rather than certainties.) There are those who believe that because the forces of quantum mechanics affect the reality of physical objects, Tarot cards might play the role of showing us paths and patterns and helping us understand the meaning in those guiding energies. Although, according to the principles of quantum mechanics, once you see the possible outcomes in the Tarot reading, you've changed the probabilities. While Jung did not study Tarot, he was interested in I Ching (another divination tool) and suggested that synchronicity could be an explanation for how I Ching might work for divination.

Projecting
Some say it all boils down to your subconscious mind. Arguably, how we perceive things relies heavily on our subconscious, and there are those who believe that with Tarot, the subconscious projects its own interpretations on the Tarot cards. As a person receiving a Tarot reading, your interpretation of the cards is a result of the factors in your life that shape who you are and what you are about. The questions you have about your life (usually the reason for consulting the Tarot in the first place) are projected onto the pictures, so you divine answers from what you see. In this way, the Tarot is useful in helping us to tap into our subconscious to find answers that we might never consciously think of. The Rorschach inkblot test uses a similar principle to look into the subconscious. Whether you believe that Tarot cards hold any power or ability to shed light on your life, your problems or your future might depend on how easily you can open you mind to the idea of it. Many Tarot-card readers have differing ideas about how or why the Tarot works. In fact, some say we only need the Tarot to help us until we learn to get in touch with our "inner guide" on our own.

Animals Who Make a Difference

Animals Who Make a Difference

Learn How Animals Detect Illness

They're more than just companions, they're also part of the healthcare team. Find out how animals are making an important difference to people's health and well being. Doctors, nurses, support workers, therapists â€" and animals?
When it comes to better health, not all members of the team walk on two legs. Animals are increasingly becoming a part of therapies designed to help both the body and the mind â€" not to mention how we diagnose and manage disease. We’re used to seeing dogs with jobs â€" like police dogs or guide dogs â€" but there are many ways that animals are making a difference. Here are a few ways animals are improving the health and well being of their human companions.

Sounding the Alarm

For people with type 1 diabetes, a drop in blood sugar can be dangerous, but not everyone can recognize the symptoms of these hypoglycaemic episodes â€" especially if they’re asleep when they happen. Enter the nose: dogs can detect a change in body chemistry and alert their human companions about a drop in blood glucose levels before things get serious.
Dogs warn with behaviours like pawing, nudging, pacing or putting their heads in an owner’s lap â€" or they might wake people up in the middle of the night with a testing kit in their jaws. In the past several years, more organizations are training dogs to recognize changes in blood glucose levels, and pairing them up with adults and children to help manage the disease. (Read the article in Diabetes Forecast for more information.)
Another example of this canine early warning system: dogs can warn people who suffer from frequent seizures when one is going to happen. This advanced notice allows people the time to lie down or get to a safe area

Screening for Cancer

You’ve heard the joke involving a “lab test” from a retriever? The breed may be wrong but the logic isn’t that far fetched. Scientists continue to investigate how dogs can sniff out some forms of cancer â€" or rather, the by-products of cancerous cells. Cancer cells release different “waste products” than normal cells, and these substances are released through our skin, breath and urine. With their keen noses, dogs can be trained to detect these biochemical markers, even in the earliest stages of disease.
The latest findings: a small French study reported that dogs can detect prostate tumours â€" or rather, a molecule produced by them â€" with a higher degree of accuracy than controversial PSA tests. While the findings are preliminary, they fall in line with previous studies involving those powerful noses.
In 2006 researchers at Florida State University found that dogs could detect the disease in breath samples from patients who had breast cancer or lung cancer.
In 2008, scientists in Philadelphia found that dogs can detect skin cancer based on chemicals emitted by the skin. Dogs have also showed promise in detecting bladder cancer from smelling urine. While much of this research is still in its early stages, scientists hope that they can use their findings to develop faster and more accurate tests.

Comfort

It’s a win-win situation: pets love the attention, and people benefit from some snuggle time and unconditional love. The health benefits of pets are well known, so it’s no surprise they’re welcome guests in long term care facilities, children’s health centres, mental health facilities and hospitals.
Patients who get regular visits from furry friends have a better quality of life, they sleep and eat better, they’re more social and participate in more activities. Another bonus: you’ll see more smiles on their faces.
Of course, dogs aren’t the only ones making the rounds. We don’t often hear about cats with jobs, but felines and their owners are also an important part of pet therapy programs.

Building the Body and the Brain

Horseback riding isn’t just a leisure activity. For people with physical disabilities, it can be an important way to improve muscle tone, balance and coordination. This specialized form of physiotherapy â€" known as hippotherapy â€" uses the horse as a tool to aid in rehabilitation.
The effects of this treatment aren’t just physical. Horses provide a freedom and a sense of independence and achievement. A related therapy, known as therapeutic riding, works on these other objectives, and includes all aspects of horseback riding from animal care to learning how to ride.
Participants have the chance to learn new skills, work with others and even find employment. Visit a local school or library and you might just find some furry friends enjoying a good story too. Pets make the environment more relaxed and making reading out loud less intimidating â€" and what better way to develop a love of reading? Reading isn’t the only skill children can develop.
One organization, COPE Service Dogs, enlists the help of at-risk youth and adults with disabilities in their service dog training programs. These programs foster responsibility, empathy and leadership skills. In Canada and the U.S., prison inmates can also participate in puppy raising and training programs as well, helping with rehabilitation.

Opening up the World

For children with autism, animals can help open up the world. In recent years, animal-assisted therapy involving horses, dolphins, dogs and cats has shown many benefits for children with this condition that affects communication and socialization. Children “open up” when animals are around, and pets offer opportunities to interact with other humans too. Outside the sessions, dogs can offer permanent support to children with autism and their families.
Specially trained Autism Service Dogs go everywhere â€" including family outings and to school. When connected by a tether to their companion, the dogs prevent children from bolting and thereby offer a measure of safety and security for families.
Furthermore, an animal’s soothing presence can help keep outbursts in check, and help the child transition to different environments and activities. Dogs can also help improve attention span too.

Get Involved

Perhaps the animals get all the attention â€" and the well-earned applause â€" but people make these programs possible. Government funding and grants can help, but it’s usually up to volunteers and donors to cover the costs. Here are some ways you can get involved:
- Donate money. Cash contributions help cover the costs of raising and training animals, especially when the recipient families can only cover part of the expenses.
- Donate time. Love animals? Training centres often need volunteers for some one-on-one time with the animals, like walking, grooming and baby-sitting. Extra hands are always needed for fundraising and special events too.
- Raise an animal. Until they start training, animals are raised by volunteers who are responsible for house training, basic obedience and socialization. These commitments take a lot of time and love, and last over a year.
-Volunteer with your pet. Your pet doesn’t have to have years of training to be a therapy pet â€" just good manners, proper hygiene and an affectionate disposition. There are many organizations, events and programs out there â€" but it may take a little research to find the right fit in your area.

Divination in Everyday Life

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Divination in Everyday Life

Walk into any metaphysical bookstore today and one is confronted with
a myriad of divinatory systems to choose from and learn to use. I use
several of these systems myself. But often we are dazzled by packaging and
promotion and are later disappointed by the oracle we have purchased. We often forget that the most accessible and organic of oracles is that of receiving
messages directly from the world of nature; and specifically from animals that
we encounter.

One day last summer, I noted that the New Moon was in Cancer, a water
sign, and that it fell in the third house of my astrological chart--the
house of communication, writing and learning. I decided to take this
auspicious day to do a ceremony to commit myself to twelve weeks of The Artist's Way, a program of artistic "recovery." A key part of the plan is to write "morning pages," and so I did these sittings in my bathtub, beginning this Third House Cancerian New Moon literally immersed in water, writing away. I then decided to spend the entire day on an "artist's date," (another idea from The Artist's Way) and packed my sketchpad, water bottle and charcoal pencils and was off to a local beach. I spent the day there roaming the shore and wading going into trance staring at the water, and sketching the islands, waves and sand-eroded rock formations on the beach. When I returned home, I found the house full of friends, and after dinner we decided to go jump in the lake. Begin the day in water, end the day in water, I thought. Perfect. We drove to the lake and swam out just as the sun was beginning to set. I knew the New Moon was there in the West although we could not see it. I turned and noticed a huge bird perched in a tall cedar behind us. At first I thought it was an eagle, then watched rapturous as it spread its wings and flew away to the North, revealing itself to be a great blue heron. A little while later I turned to see a rabbit calmly regarding us by the edge of the reeds. I pointed her out to the others but she had dashed away into the underbrush before they could see
her. "Where's the third animal?" I asked, knowing that magic always happens in threes. "We can't leave until we've seen a third animal." We searched for fish, snakes and frogs, but found nothing, so we dressed and got ready to leave. As we drove away, we saw a deer contentedly munching away on some heather. The third animal. It felt like a magical ending to a magical day--three animals came to bless my new commitment to my artistic path.

It wasn't until a few days later that I began to wonder if the three
animals hadn't also been an oracle. They had appeared on the New Moon, and I
have been in the habit for years of doing a tarot reading every New Moon.
Perhaps these three animals also had specific information for me. I decided
to take some time every few days during the lunation to decipher the message of the animals.

My first task was to ask myself, "if the animals brought the answer,
then what was the question?" When consulting an oracle, we are always
advised that the more specific the question, the more specific our answer will
be. I was open and receptive all day long that day. The timing of the New Moon indicated that the "reading" was for the lunation to come. Perhaps the
question was: how do I achieve a breakthrough in my artwork? How do I find a new technique, a new vision, new subject matter? How can I translate the images in my head onto paper? How can my art be alive--shimmering and shining with chi, with prana?

I restrained myself from following the impulse to grab every book on
animal symbolism I could find and look up the heron, rabbit, and deer.
Instead, I discovered my own personal associations with the animals by using a
dream technique called amplification. In this technique, you write down
associations with the symbol, each time returning to the central symbol. For example, I wrote:
rabbit--bunny--rabbit--Easter/Eostre/Ostara--rabbit--fertility--
rabbit--unbridled sex--rabbit--lots of baby bunnies--rabbit--white--rabbit--Alice In Wonderland--rabbit--Peter Cottontail--rabbit--Ix Chel--rabbit--shy--rabbit--hides--rabbit--Chinese Moon.

I did this for the other animals as well and soon had a
list of my own personal associations with them. Rabbit seemed to me
to be primarily a symbol of fertility and sexuality; heron, of soul-flight
between air and water (thoughts and emotions); and deer, of gentleness and wild
places.

I then turned to my library of books on symbolism. John Matthews
points out that in Celtic mythology, all three of these animals are guides to
the Otherworld. The Celtic shaman keeps her magical tools in a crane-bag
(cranes are the British counterpart to herons). If you follow a deer, she will lead you into the wildwoods and then into the realm of Faery; and even Alice
followed a white rabbit down a dark tunnel into wonderland! So all three
animals will take me deeper along my spiritual path.

The Medicine Cards tell us that Deer signifies the quality of
gentleness and Rabbit, of fear. Heron, according to Ted Andrews in Animal Speak, speaks to self-determination and self-reliance so that the deeper life can be explored. He notes that the deer is a central religious image for Buddhism, and that the reproductive cycle of the rabbit is 28 days, linking it to the cycle of the moon. The Chinese "hare in the moon" underscores the appearance of these animals as a new Moon oracle. "If a rabbit totem shows up, you will begin to see a cycle of 28 days beginning to manifest in your life," Andrews writes.

I found all three explanations quite fascinating and appropriate to
my life, but it wasn't until I turned to The Language of the Goddess that I
realized that we had indeed been visited by epiphanies of the triple Goddess
according to the symbolism of Neolithic Europe. Deer is the Birth-Giving Goddess, Heron (or water birds) the Life-Sustaining Goddess, and hare the Goddess Regeneratrix. I was in awe.

So I had much to work with--personal associations with these animals
as well as prehistoric and cross-cultural symbolism. At this point, I gave
my linear left brain a rest and allowed my intuitive right brain to take over.
I began to do a drawing, a mandala of the three animals, connected by a
downward pointing triangle (sacred vulva) and centered around the sunset
reflected in the waters of the lake. I began each session of drawing by meditating on the energy of each animal in turn. After studying reference photos, I put them away in order to allow the animal energy to flow through my body, my arms, fingers and charcoal pencil.

When I finished the drawing, I used it as a meditation focal point
and asked each animal in turn the question: "What is your message for me?" I
quickly wrote down the words that came to mind, without censorship or
judgment.

Sweet Deer said, "I am the doe that visits your garden with her
fawns. I give birth to new ideas, new art projects, new techniques. You found
me in the south, the place of passion and energy. You will give birth to these
qualities in your art. I am gentle but I am wild. I will eat your roses when
you are not home! But you will love me anyway. I am that part of you that
belongs to the wild places. Do not neglect my worship."

Heron responded, "I am the beauty and grace personified. I soar with
your spirit out beyond the stars and back again. With my long beak, I
dive deep for the sweetest morsels. I give you the gift of soul-flight: the
piercing insights gained by distance and perspective, the deepest mysteries of
the waters. You saw me fly to the North, place of manifestation. I sustain you as an artist, I keep you to your discipline of daily creative and spiritual
practice. I give you vision and emotion. Fly with me."

And Rabbit whispered: "You think I am a funny creature but I say to
you that I have little in common with chocolate bunnies wrapped in cellophane
or with Peter Cottontail making mischief for Farmer MacGregor. I am
fertility personified; I am exceedingly prolific and committed to my erotic
life! I am fertility personified; I am Regeneratrix--I renew and transform.
You found me in the East, place of new beginnings. I cycle with the moon; and I say to you that within 28 days you will experience regeneration in your creative life and in your erotic life as well."

It took me all month to distill the messages of the three animals.
It was indeed a fertile, prolific lunation for me. Deer helped me discover
and give birth to a new art technique and several new pieces of art. She also
led me to hear a visiting Tibetan monk speak, and I began a Buddhist meditation
practice. She also got me out of the house two or three times a week
to explore wild places in my area that I had never visited before. Heron gave me new visions for art projects as well as future plans for my priestess work. She visited me once more during the lunation when a friend and I sat in a park on the bay. As I mused "I need to stop reading about these things (referring to
meditation practices) and start doing them," Heron flew in and
perched on a half-submerged piling directly in front of us, underscoring the
importance of my remark.

And Rabbit, lowly Rabbit, Great Goddess Regeneratrix Rabbit did help
me to face and then break through the fears that were keeping me blocked
artistically. And she did renew my erotic life!

So, how can we divine messages from our animal guides?

1. Be in a state of receptivity. Pay attention when unusual or
favorite animals appear, when they appear on significant days in the lunar or
solar calendar, or when they appear in sets of magical numbers. Compile a
list of personal associations by using a technique like dreamwork
amplification.

2. Do your research. Go to sources such as the ones mentioned in
this article for information on cross-cultural symbolism. Pay attention
to ideas that intuitively strike you; when you read this material, write it down.

3. Create. Do a creative project, whatever your mode of creative
expression might be. Create a painting or collage or sculpture, dance a dance,
write a song or poem or story, build an altar, create a ceremony. Get your
left brain out of the way and let your right brain take over.

4. Ask the animal. Go into a meditative state and ask the animal
what its message is for you. Write down the reply you receive quickly, no
matter how silly it may seem to you. Yes, it may be just "you" talking and not
the animal--but trust your Deep Self to have wisdom that your conscious
self needs to hear.

5. Be aware of synchronistic events. Let these messages unfold in
your daily life. Let them take as long as it takes. Cultivate
gratefulness that Goddess is alive and Magic is afoot.

What is a Wicked Witch?

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Tue Jul 12, 2011 10:41 am (PDT)

WHAT IS A WICKED WITCH?

The wicked Witch is an intriguing character. Her ugliness,
threatening manner, and maliciousness are uncontestable, yet there is more
substance beneath the obvious and hideous outer shell. Following many threads of
literature, film, and art, I've sought to find the truth of this character
behind the tattered robes and striped socks.

A Quick History of the Wicked Witch

In the early literature of the Greeks and Romans, Witches were young
and sexy and got away with murder, literally. The tales of Medea's
brews and incantations, and Circe's allure to seafaring men, make for
fascinating reading. These two were dangerous, tricky, and sometimes evil, but they had
absolutely no warts on their lovely noses. The Greeks and Romans had a fuller
appreciation for powerful women, possibly because they were still
conversant with various forms of the Goddess.

But time and religion distanced Western culture from a healthy
spectrum of feminine images. By the fifteenth century, wicked and ugly Witches
began to appear in primitive woodcuts. They are angular and grim, yet
paradoxically they engage in lascivious activities with a goat-like master. These
surreal presentations seem silly until the next page reveals a picture of a
Witch being sizzled at the stake. They must have been very, very wicked,
indeed.

Some Ideas About Wickedness

What is wickedness exactly? Is it the embodiment of malice and
threat in feminine form? Or is it merely a derogatory label for women who did
what they bloody well wanted in spite of pressure to conform? A legacy of
religious persecution passed from the Romans to the Inquisitors, and many
dissenters and heretics were burned. But the loss of the full spectrum of feminine
images caused Witches to elicit an especially fierce variety of harassment.

The traditional Anglo-Euro wicked Witch is a specialized offshoot of
the dark feminine image portrayed in the folklore and myths of many
cultures. This feminine image, once respected in early civilizations, became
demonized in a culture obsessed with virgins. Literature from the Middle Ages to
the current era paints her as the enemy of the lauded hero. She is his
polar opposite. Her blood mysteries and ecstatic wildness are an anathema to his
pristine, rational, masculine persona. She evokes a crisis, an imperative
mission for the knight to defeat or overcome her traps, lures, artifices, and
spells. The hero must mobilize his resource and allies to win.

The Grimm Brothers wrote many tales that follow this plot line, only
varying to the extent that a couple of snotty older brothers run into her
first and go down hard. The irony of Grimm is that the hero often possesses
his own magic to put an end to the Witch's design. Apparently it is
acceptable if the heroes use it, but not Witches. That is, being wicked evidently
isn't about the magic--so it could only be about two things: thwarting the hero,
or being a woman.

Modern Witch Visions

Contemporary works presents the full flowering of the wicked Witch.
In The Wizard of Oz, Frank L. Baum created the Wicked Witch of the West,
whose winged monkeys terrorize the skies of Oz and good old Dorothy.
Dorothy joins forces with the Scarecrow, Lion, and Tin Man, and destroys the
Witch. The Witches in Disney's Snow White (1952) and Sleeping Beauty (1959) are
also out to kill the title characters. Disney drafted the tales from Grimm and
Perrault, but crafted a modern view of wicked Witches in animated films. Snow
White's stepmother is conniving and treacherous, but Maleficent in Sleeping
Beauty is a maelstrom of evil powers. She can teleport, curse, terrorize,
abduct, engulf an entire castle with thorns, and finally morph into a
dragoness of monstrous proportions. Disney makes clear the line between good
magic and bad in his films. His Witches have no redeeming features, and are
obstacles to true love in both stories.

In these tales, the juxtaposition of the dark feminine with bright
masculine reaches its greatest extreme: as the hero gets brighter, the Witch
gets darker. Yet in modern literature, the gory Maguire's book, Wicked
(1995), the Witch character is angry, defiled, and trivialized, and blooms into
magnificent vengeful rage. Yet Maguire gives her the burden of inexorable fate,
writing: "When the times are a crucible, when the air is full of
crisis, those who are most themselves are the victims."

Perhaps Maguire is correct. The individual driven by righteous fury
is soon catapulted into ego oblivion. The wicked Witch can arise, but her
vengefulness leads to a doom of her own making--a sacrifice for the
forces of light. The wickedness that is her greatest strength is also her greatest
liability, leaving her vulnerable to the socially acceptable hero.

In a culture of youth and beauty, the wicked Witch, the old hag or
crone, is the antithesis of desirability. She is unwanted by men and feared
by all. Her capacity for polarizing the hero archetype is decried as evil,
but who else will activate his destiny? The wicked Witch antagonizes human
intellect into motion, single-handedly compelling a protagonist into asserting
his courage. She makes a man into a hero, but is not thanked for it.

The lonely exception to this attitude is found in Carlos Castaneda's
wicked Witch, La Catalina. She stalks Carlos, and attempts to kill him.
Don Juan points out to Carlos how he should appreciate her efforts on his
behalf. Carlos screws up every encounter with her and barely escapes through
dumb luck. Juan tells Carlos, "There are some people who are very careful about
the nature of their acts. Their happiness is to act with the full
knowledge that they don't have time; therefore, their acts have a peculiar power."
Carlos is not allowed to indulge in hatred toward his opponent. Don Juan
insists that La Catalina is necessary for his development as a sorcerer.

Much like Maguire, Castaneda blurs the lines between wickedness and
nonwickedness. They have found a place and a meaning for the dark
feminine image, shifting away from revulsion and rejection to a more thoughtful
assessment of the wicked Witch's role. They are not liked, for no amount of
storytelling can change a wicked Witch into a lap cat. But they are respected as
a source of causality, a mechanism of greater destiny. Perhaps this is a
sign that Witches have come full circle, back to the place they held in the
days of Homer some 3,000 years ago.

The wicked Witch cannot be released with impunity: her realm of
authority is fearsome. Her actions result in heroic efforts, a battle for
survival. To encounter the wicked Witch within the psyche unleashes seething
emotions from the restraints of ethics and rationalism. Opposing the wicked Witch
is a catalyst for resourcefulness, ingenuity, and bravery in the face of
danger. Both are exhausting experiences, but without her the wheels of fate
cannot grind on toward the goal.

Each October, the wicked Witch resurfaces in the mass consciousness
as Samhain approaches. Cartoons of the hag in black on a broom appears
on doors and in yards. This commercialized image obscures her real meaning and
power year I'll see those images with new respect, and honor her for the
part she may play in a life filled with mundane chores and daily grinds. When she
is doing her worst she is at her best. She is the hard corner around
which glorious fate turns.

The Law of Threefold Return

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

The Law of Threefold Return

"Ever mind the Rule of Three, that whatsoever you do
Be it for good or for harm, shall come back to you threefold."

Intent without action is worthless, and action without intent is
worse than useless--it can be harmful. When our actions are true
expressions of our intentions--our wills--we are doing magic.

The Rule of Three illustrates the power underlying our intentions.
Everything we do is returned unto us threefold. The ethical
directive of the Wiccan Rede is balanced by the moral guide of the
Rule of Three, without lengthy lists of prohibitions and "sins." Our intent
determines the approach we take to life. Our actions determine the
response life takes to us.

While the Rede is an ethical statement, the Law of Three is a moral
one. We cannot ask for what we do not ourselves offer to others.
Think of it as applied common sense; our actions and words ripple outward
from us, touching countless other lives in one way or another. Every good
deed we do, every helping hand we lend, and every time we act responsibly, we
improve our society by fostering an environment in which positive actions begin
to outnumber negative ones.

The Rule of Three is not a mandate to become a pacifist. Rather,
it's a challenge to find a constructive, positive way to deal with
the situations we all face in the course of our lives. We all are still
part of the world, and our relationships with other people are still very
much our own matter to deal with. We all have to live with the results and
consequences of our actions and the fruit of our intentions.

The Rule of Three demonstrates the importance of right intent, and
reveals the secret to bringing about real prosperity. Every little
thing we do comes back to us, so it behooves us to send out the sorts of
things we really want to have come back to us. When applied alongside the
Rede, we are given a goal to work toward, that of doing good, of helping others,
and of making the world a better place. Wicca is a lifestyle as much as it
is a religion. Its lessons are best approached by experiencing them.

Lady N., I was thinking about doing some spell work for myself some time this week. Would you mind if I did something for your situation while I'm at it? Please let me know when you get a chance because I don't like casting without permission.

BB,
Hawkshill

Hawkshill, I would be grateful to be included in your spellwork. Thank you!

Moving as a Rite of Passage

Urban Paganism:  Moving As A Rite Of Passage

There is nothing so intimately chaotic as moving everything you own.  Your entire life goes through myriad changes and nothing will ever be the same again.  Priorities shift, everything is affected, and you have to keep on living right through the worse, and the best, of it.  Moving is a fact of life in the city, and elsewhere.  Moving is also a Rite of Passage.

At one point or another in our lives, we are going to move from one residence to another, for any number of reasons.  This experience is one we all can relate to and one which is tremendously transformative;  our lives are touched on every level, and we are forever changed by the event.  This is a great opportunity for a variety of magical and social acts, such as cutting away unwanted and outgrown attachments and affiliations, reclaiming our lives, dedication to a particular path or field of study, initiation, and beginning a new life, not to mention a myriad of other possibilities too numerous to cover in depth in this space.

So what are some ways to realize the potential of this momentous occurrence?

Close the door on the past.  Complete old projects, settle outstanding debts, and wrap up whatever business you can relating to the old place.  Say your good-byes and let go of the energies of your old residence.  Clean the space of your traces, both physically and psychically.  Bless the space one last time and then purify the space with rain water, salt, or other such things, as are appropriate to your path.

Unburden yourself of excess baggage, both materially and otherwise.  Donate unwanted things to charity, friends, or neighbors.  Recycle anything that you no longer need.  Get rid of things which have been cluttering up your life.  Give them to people who can and will make use of them.  If you have the time and weather permits, sell off those things you don't want to carry off with you but can't just give away.  Everything you eliminate at this point is one less object to move and carry later.  Sort through your possessions and make gifts to your friends of things you no longer have a use or need for that they might enjoy.  This is a good way to simplify your life.

Show respect for your successors, and act responsibly.  Leave the place in better condition than when you moved in.  This is your chance to express positive, life-affirming energies through your very actions and deeds.  Leave a small plant in the space as a gift to the next tenants.  Leave the space as clean and pleasant as you can.  Leave as little of yourself behind as you can manage--don't pollute someone else's home and life with your old, sloughed-off energies and thought-forms.  It is highly unethical to leave a consecrated temple space in what will soon be someone else's bedroom or nursery.  There's no need to desecrate such space, either, but surely you can collapse the vessel of containment or transport the heart of the
temple with you, or disperse it to the four winds.  Those who practice Magic and
follow the ways of the Old Gods can really appreciate such acts of consideration and respect.  Consider it your personal chance to demonstrate that Pagans are ethical and well mannered/good natured folks who really are capable of acting in an adult manner.

Let go of the past.  Say good-bye to your old life, be as melodramatic or as whimsical as you are moved to be.  With this move you can stop smoking, change your diet, get a tattoo, start a new avocation, make resolutions, take a vow, begin a new stage of personal development, and get things into order (finally).

Prepare the new space.  Clean anything needing to be cleaned, physically or otherwise, as best you can.  Consider burning some sage, myrrh, or other cleansing incense in the place to clear it of old influences and residues.  Examine and get a feel for the new place.  Some people like to ring bells in every room, or set pieces of quartz on every windowsill, while others leave pennies atop every doorway or set out a plate of food for the spirits who hang out in the place.  It never hurts to start off on the right foot with such things.  Set wards or protective magics into place as early in the moving process as you are able.  Mark it as your space with a plant or book or other object left there once you take possession, if you cannot
immediately move in.

Envision the future.  Make a new life for yourself.  Have a moving party to get people involved in helping you make this transition.  Once you get moved, hold a housewarming party to re-establish your connections with your friends and community.  Welcome the opportunity to reinvent yourself and to reformulate your identity.  Bless this new space and consecrate your new practice space/temple.  Welcome the Gods and ancestors to your new home.  Welcome yourself to this place.

Celebrate the new life you've begun.  The extent of the changes you can go through are up to you.  Make of it what you will--the future is in your hands.

Blessed Be.

simple ways to Feng Shui your home

I am not sure where I found this article on Feng Shui, but, I though it might be interesting to some folks.

Simple Ways to Feng Shui Your Home

Around this time of year, I always get an itch to change up my space and shake out the stagnancy of the previous season. But since a huge redecorating project isn't the most financially sound idea for me (or almost anyone else in this economy, for that matter), small scale is best. Feng shui, a Chinese philosophy regarding interior-design principles, encourages such changes as a way to breathe new life into the home and push out negative energy. Its numerous, detailed rules can overwhelm even the most enthusiastic beginners, especially since many of them involve room placement (the bathroom shouldn't be in the middle of the house, for example), and how many of us can control that? But there are basic principles of feng shui that many of us can bring to our
homes, room by room.

The Bedroom
Sleep experts will tell you that the bedroom should be free of distracting influences, and feng shui experts say the same. This room is an escape from the outside world, a place for you to physically and emotionally recover from the day. That means absolutely no TVs in there; if you must have one, keep it behind cabinet doors or covered up when
it's not in use. Try to limit the amount of electronic devices you have in the bedroom overall. Electricity is sometimes linked to illness, according to feng shui principles. Mirrors are another thing you should curb in the bedroom. They're usually beneficial, according to feng shui, because they reflect energy around the room, but you want the bedroom to be as calm as possible. That means few to no mirrors and no big plants;
the surroundings should be simple and soothing.

Achieving the right energy (chi) balance is essential in the bedroom. In the book Feng Shui Step by Step, author T. Raphael Simons notes that bed placement is the most significant choice of all. It dictates how well you'll sleep, which affects everything from health to job performance to your relationships. Feng shui argues against putting the bed against or under the window, with the foot facing the door or window, or directly
underneath something hanging above. Each of these positions negatively affects the flow of energy. The head should be against the wall, but the sides of the bed shouldn't be against anything; that blocks movement as well.

The Bathroom
Feng shui incorporates the five elementswood, earth, metal, fire, and waterinto its design principles. Not surprisingly, the bathroom is associated with water, which represents wealth and opportunity. To start, make sure faucets and pipes are leak-free; that signals a leak in your finances. Keep doors and toilet lids closed to prevent opportunity and positive energy from getting out that way, too. Light, pastel colors, bright lighting, fresh flowers, and scented candles make the room more inviting and friendly, as do mirrors. (Mirrors in this room are good, especially if it doesn't have windows.) Above all, make sure the space is tidy at all times; dirt and clutter encourage bad energy.

The Kitchen
The focal point of any kitchen should be the stove that's where the magic happens, after all. The food that's prepared on the stove nourishes everyone in the house, keeping them healthy and better able to deal with what the world throws at them. It's tied to success in life and ties us to the people we share it with. Ideally, the stove should be placed in such a way so that the cook can always see who enters the kitchen. Keep the surface clean and free of unnecessary objects. Don't put microwaves directly above the stove; though that saves space, it also messes with energy flow.

In terms of colors, opt for reds, greens, earth tones, and warm shades of white and yellow. Clutter is the antithesis of feng shui, but in the kitchen, a junk drawer's perfectly acceptable, as long as its contents don't spread to other areas. Put knives and other sharp objects away from the public eye, as they foster anxiety. What should be on display are lots of fresh foods, like a bowl of fruit on the table, to symbolize your kitchen's abundance. And if you're using tools or plates that you hate, get rid of them; they increase negativity, too.

The Living Room
In many homes, this is the room that people enter first. Whereas the bedroom is a center of privacy and peace, the living room is a very public and lively space and should be designed accordingly. All chairs and couches should face the door so that those sitting in them can greet guests properly. Make sure that the entryway itself is free of clutter; since that's the first place friends and family see as well as the doorway to outside energy coming inyou want it to be attractive and welcoming.

The room must be well lit to stimulate conversation; add mirrors, plants, fish tanks, and any number of objects that heighten chi. Don't put the TV in the center of the living room; instead, put it off to the side and have a simply adorned coffee table (a plant or two, perhaps) in the middle instead. The point is to encourage interaction and create a
bright, cheerful space.

Incorporating a little feng shui into your home isn't as difficult as it seems, especially if you start with these small suggestions. But it's important to remember that change must happen slowly and deliberately; otherwise, you risk energy imbalance wand chaos. Try making a few alterations and seeing how they affect your mood in that room. If you
feel a lack of positive energy, look into wind chimes, candles, plants, and other objects that promote healthy chi. If you're overstimulated, take out some of these things. However you make changes to your home, do so with a sense of purpose and mindfulness. Be aware of the way each room makes you feel. That, more than anything, ill guide you toward a more positive atmosphere. And what better way to welcome a new season than with fresh surroundings and a fresh attitude?

Love, Light and Abundant Blessings,
LadyHawk
