Pagan Reading Group: The Book Henge now open

Posted by: "Fran Wolfe-Johnson" tygermoonfoxx@gmail.com   tygermoonfoxx

Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:31 am (PDT)

I talked this project over with Lady Nightshayde and the other
moderators before setting it up and have gotten permission to post
about it here.

It seems there's interest in such a pagan reading group, particularly
for advanced or related subjects, so I have created such a group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thebookhenge/

From the front page (which will have its own graphic, drawn by my
girlfriend, soon):

"Welcome to the Book Henge, a reading and discussion group for pagans,
witches, Wiccans, and anyone else wanting to discover and discuss
various topics. We choose a book, read it chapter by chapter, and
discuss our impressions of what we've read. Subjects covered might
include but are not limited to: comparative religions, mythology,
anthropology, archaeology, ecology, magical systems, divining methods,
herb lore, how-to, and ethics.

"Please note: although chosen books may cover such subjects, we are
NOT a coven or a group for learning the particulars of a practice or
religion. Our purpose is to discover new angles, techniques, and ways
of thinking through reading materials which apply practically to our
various religions and belief systems."

Everyone is welcome regardless of actual religious affiliation or
beliefs or practices. If you know someone interested, please spread
the word. The only requirements are an open mind, a commitment to
read and discuss the chosen material, and a copy of the book itself.

I've chosen as the first endeavor "Drawing Down the Moon" (2006
edition) by Margot Adler. I have both previous copies of the book and
such a lot has happened in our rich history since each was published!
I chose this book as a starting point because it covers a lot of the
ethical issues faced by pagans today, much of the history of the
movement in the US, and quite a bit of the psychological and
historical background of paganism in general.

I look forward to seeing those of you who choose to join. Thank you!

You don't have to do so. That's the nice part about it: you can choose what
books you want to read/can get. Also, I've listed a few links where some of
the older stuff is available for pennies and some of the really old sacred
texts are up on the 'net free.

Also, Mondazzi Books is a great place to buy books; they are really inexpensive, too.

Publisher: Dover Publications; Facsimile of 2 ed (1900) edition (June 1, 1975)
Subject: 103 Study  Advanced Craft
Description or Synopsis BOOK REVIEW
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "The Book of Abramelin tells the
story of an Egyptian mage named Abramelin, or Abra-Melin, who taught a
system of magic to Abraham of Worms, a German Jew presumed to have
lived from c.1362 - c.1458. The system of magic from this book regained
popularity in the 19th and 20th centuries due to the efforts of
Mathers' translation, The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the
Mage, its import within the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and
later within the mystical system of Thelema (created in 1904 by
Aleister Crowley). ...In 1897, The Book of the Sacred Magic of
Abramelin the Mage was translated into English by the British occultist
Samuel L. MacGregor Mathers. The magic described in the grimoire was
influential in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, of which Mathers
was the head......The British occultist Aleister Crowley, at the time a
young member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, started
preparations for seeking the angel by following Abramelin's
instructions, but he abandoned this plan to assist Mathers during the
Golden Dawn schism of 1901.

journalistic cataloguing of Pagan groups in the 1970's and early
'80's.) Written mostly from a sociological anthropological historical
perspective, a genuine account of modern American Paganism  This
is easily the best book available for someone who wants to learn
about modern paganism.. {recommended to the Revised & Expanded edition} There are some that

Aleister Crowley (1875-1947), was one of the most profound students of Magick, Qabalah and yoga psychology.
Lon Milo DuQuette is a noted Tantric authority .In 1904, Aleister

introduction to Goetic magick as Aleister Crowley practiced it.
Christopher Hyatt joined with occultist Lon Milo DuQuette both  are
prolific authors, they cuts through all the superstition, and
frequently misunderstood body of lore  by explaining the symbolism
making Aleister Crowley's rituals accessable. This volume is filled
with interesting insights and hints, "The Spirits are no more impressed
of you say "thee" and "thine" than they are if you say "you" and
"yours".' (pg 45)  The the illustrator  in this book are  Arthur Edward
Waite sigils rather than the seals found in Crowley's Goetia..  The

fails to deliver anything we've not seen time and time again in
beginners books . The topic called "Why Wicca is not Celtic,"  clears up a lot of misconceptions
about the Celts and Wicca.

This is a basic book, it is a beginner's book, Explaining everything a
beginner needs to know from a male perspective,on each area that should
be set as a foundation to any witch, male or female. from a gay man's
perspective - though not really focused on gay themes. Most- books on
this subject are written and reflect women's or heterosexual men's
experiences.. For the male Wiccan it's somtimes very difficult to find
how they might fit into the Craft, solitary or a coven environment this
book could be a great asset. Christopher Penczak is a young man with
many book credits to his name on the topic of Wicca, this book is
divided in to nine chapters covering a variety of beginners topics on
Wicca. Highly recommended for teens, and also as a guide for teaching
your younger children.  This book has a good bibliography with
some excellent sources.

Description or Synopsis BOOK REVIEW
It does not live up to its claim to present "advanced" material.
This book is a "guidebook" to the "study" of witchcraft.  This book is
helpful  as reference guide to other books, in directing you to some of
the better resources  as recommendations for further reading.  The
authors use the term "advanced" I would put it into a guidebook to
the literature of advanced wicca. and Wiccan 102 History,  two-thirds
of this book is  history of Wicca .But it is not an advanced text on
any of the subjects it covers. The topics are barely discussed,
unfortunately, without providing enough material, like the entire
Western Mystery Tradition is summed up in 3 pages.

Description or Synopsis BOOK REVIEW
The a solitary neophyte, might mistakenly think this is an
authoritative voice for all Wiccans, but certainly not the only view.
The author makes statements about Wicca and Wiccans, which aren't
necessarily true.

One of the major problem I have with this book is that it's too short.
The chapter about the Wiccan Rede, while very well written, could have
been longer and more indepth. This was more like wicca 101. The Author
doesn't cite source material enough. It is more advanced than 101 books
but not a 404.Chapter 6-"The God Problem" the author doesn't feel
comfortable working with the Horned God

She opens the book with these words:
"The book you now hold in your hands contains no spells, no rituals,
and not one word about the Wheel of the Year or ritual tools. This is
not just one more in the seemingly endless stream of "Wicca 101" books
recycling one more time all the basic lore and "do-it-yourself" ritual
design and spellcrafting hints you've already read a thousand times..."

How to Make a Crystal Remedies for Healing

How to Make a Crystal Remedies for Healing

How to Make a Crystal Remedies for Healing

Crystals can be used in many ways and for many purposes. They can heal you mentally, physically and spiritually. One of the most beneficial uses of crystals is as a type of tonic, to be drank by the person who needs healing. You can prepare such healing drinks by immersing appropriate crystals into purified water, charging it by the Sun or Moon, and then putting a few drops in a glass of water to be drank twice daily, or applying a few drops under your tongue. If you don't like the idea of actually drinking a crystal tonic, you may add some to your bathwater or apply some to your pulse points. Follow these easy steps to make a crystal remedy for ailments.

The first step in crystal healing is to determine the type of crystal needed. Each color crystal has different healing properties and corresponds to a different chakra.

Next, it's important to cleanse and charge the crystals to clear it from all the energy it has collected. Crystals absorb negative energies so they need regular cleaning, otherwise they become overstressed and stop working, said karmic healer and author Judy Hall. She suggested an easy way to do this by holding the crystals under running water for a few minutes, and then putting them out in the sun to recharge.

Now the crystal is ready to make a healing remedy. When soaked in water, the water becomes infused with the crystal's healing properties, storing the vibrations and transferring them to the physical body, said karmic healer and author Judy Hall. One way to do this is by adding a crystal to bath water. Crystal therapist Karen Ryan suggested using rose quartz for love and relaxation, sodalite to ease the mind, lepidolite for stress relief, chrysocolla for emotional mood swings, smokey quartz for dissolving anger, and tiger's eye for mental clarity.

For a room spray that will refresh stale energies or dispel negative energy, Ryan said to place a few crystals such as clear quartz, rose quartz and/or amethyst in a clear jar and fill with spring water. Place the jar in the sun for 4 to 7 hours, so the crystals' properties would infuse the water. Then remove the crystals and transfer to an atomizer and spray the entire house. Use all the water within a few hours because the potency decreases over time.

Another remedy is drinking crystal-infused water. Place a crystal in a glass, fill with spring water, and set it in the sun for at least 6 hours. Because the human body is nearly 70 percent water, the more structured our body's water becomes, the more it can act as an effective semiconductor for life force energy, according to the book "Healing with Crystals" by Jonathan Pawlick and Pamela Chase. Make sure to do thorough research on the crystals used before ingesting to make sure they are not toxic or water-soluble.

I was wondering if any of you happen to know any effective blessing/prosperity or protection spells? I have recently done a few tarot readings for a friend of mine, all of which indicate she will be going through a very rough time through the next couple of months

Go to the 13Witches archives and put "protection spells" in the search option. There are so, so many there, as well as prosperity spells and blessings.

There's No Place Like Home

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Thu Jul 28, 2011 8:20 pm (PDT)

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

The average American changes residence once every five years, and many of us are even more mobile than that. So if you're like millions of other people on the go, you may be thinking about relocating, buying a home, or just moving to a different apartment in another part of town. Before you pay a big down payment and security deposit, however, you might do well to take a look at the Moon's position in your birth chart.

When it comes to issues of home and family, the Moon's position is very significant. The sign and house in which it is placed, along with the aspects your Moon makes to other planets in your chart, will show the type of home that is perfect for you. In order for you to feel happy, comfortable, and secure in your home, the qualities described by your Moon must be met. The following interpretations of the twelve Moon signs reveal what kind of residence will suit your unique lifestyle.

Moon in Aries

You enjoy lots of excitement in your domestic life. Living in an isolated, rural setting would quickly bore you; you prefer to be "where the action is." Cleanliness, order, and picture-perfect decorating aren't very important to you. You believe a home should be lived in, and your house or apartment is more likely to resemble a locker room than a museum. You probably have an interest in sports, so your ideal home might contain an exercise room, a place to hang a basketball hoop, and plenty of space to store your bike, skis, and baseball equipment.

Moon in Taurus

You enjoy creature comforts and want a home that is as luxurious as your finances will allow. You'll stretch your budget to the limit to get the place and furnishings you want. As a natural interior decorator, your eye for design lets you turn any home into a show place. Because you love cooking and eating, a large kitchen is essential. Your ideal home will also feature a nice yard with a place to plant flowers and a vegetable garden, and maybe even a greenhouse.

Moon in Gemini

You need plenty of space to accommodate your hobbies, such as: a sewing room, basement workshop, painting studio, home office, and an attic for storing all your ongoing projects. You love to read and play games, so your ideal home might include a library or study with floor-to-ceiling bookcases, as well as an alcove where you can set up a game table. Because you like to work with your hands and fancy yourself a handyman (or handywoman), you won't be turned off by a place that needs some fixing up, especially if it's a bargain.

Moon in Cancer

It is extremely important or you to own your own home and to establish yourself in a secure community. You love children and need plenty of space for your family, even if your children are grown and visit only occasionally. Many of your activities center on your home, and you enjoy cooking for family and friends. Therefore, your ideal home will have a large, well-designed kitchen, perhaps with an adjoining family room, and a dining room big enough for huge gatherings. You also appreciate antiques and would probably be most content in an older home or an apartment with great woodwork and details.

Moon in Leo

You think of your home as your castle. Nothing is too grand or ostentatious for you--you want people to be impressed when they see where you live. Your ideal home is something out of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous or Gone With The Wind with plenty of gilt, sunlight, lush furnishings, bright colors, and dramatic details. For these things you're willing to pay top dollar. However, if your finances don't quite equal your fantasies, you have the creativity and flair to turn even an ordinary house or apartment into a palace.

Moon in Virgo

Your tastes are rather modest. You prefer a home that's practical and energy-efficient over one that's palatial. Cleanliness and orderliness are important, and your dwelling is always neat. Your ideal home is one that has plenty of storage space so you have a place for everything. Although you appreciate a building that has been well-maintained by previous residents, you're quite capable when it comes to repairs and are a good candidate for handyman specials. A location that is conveniently located relative to work, shopping, and schools means more to you than being in the fashionable part of town.

Moon in Libra

Your tastes are refined, conservative, and classic. You prefer a house that is neat and pretty over one that has character. Like Virgo-Moon people, you appreciate cleanliness and order, and you need a harmonious environment to be happy. You have an eye for beauty and can use your artistic sensibility to make your home a picture of grace and charm. However, you're not much for doing-it-yourself and prefer to avoid the handyman specials. A quiet, respectable neighborhood is an important factor in your choice of the perfect place to live.

Moon in Scorpio

You enjoy your privacy and tend to withdraw to your home when you want to be alone. Not much for entertaining, you don't require room to socialize. Household plumbing, though, is very important, and you won't be happy unless you have at least two bathrooms--maybe with a Jacuzzi. A safe, secluded location, particularly one near water, would suit you best. Your ideal home will provide a sense of security and enclose you in a dark, protective, cave-like environment.

Moon in Sagittarius

You are sociable and on the go. Friends, family, neighbors, and business associates feel welcome in your home for holiday gatherings, Saturday night card games, kids' birthday parties, and company cookouts. Your ideal home will have plenty of space for all your activities with a large den for drinks and pool and a big yard for volleyball and Frisbee. Like Moon-in-Aries people, you need storage room for athletic gear. You don't mind driving, so location that is some distance from your workplace isn't a problem. However, your need to be surrounded by activity might make it difficult for you to live in an isolated, rural spot.

Moon in Capricorn

You appreciate tradition and history. Antique homes in older communities--especially the wealthier ones--appeal to you most. You want to own your home and are willing to work hard to save for the perfect property. You are concerned with your image in the community and want an address that connotes status, stability, and respect. Practical and responsible, you hate being in debt and won't assume a financial burden that you can't handle. You consciously maintain your residence and expect your neighbors to do the same.

Moon in Aquarius

You want a residence that is unique or distinctive. No "cookie-cutter" ranch houses for you! Your ideal home might be an artist's loft with huge windows and brightly colored exposed pipes, or a converted lighthouse. Sunshine is important, too, and you enjoy locations high above the streets--perhaps in an ultra modern condo on the twenty-fourth floor overlooking the city. Since you feel compelled to put your stamp of individuality on your home, you will probably start renovations as soon as you move in--even if the place is brand new!

Moon in Pisces

You are reclusive and private about your domestic life. Your home is a retreat where you can withdraw from the stress of the outside world and relax. You rarely entertain more than a few close friends, so your social areas are of less importance than your private ones. Bedrooms and baths are your special interests. Your ideal home will have a large, restful bathroom with a Jacuzzi and perhaps a swimming pool! You also love animals, and want a place where your pets can romp about safely. A quiet, secluded location, especially one near water, would appeal to you most.

A Parable

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

A Parable

Once upon a time, there were two Witches. One was a Dianic Witch and the other was a Traditionalist Witch. And, although both of them were deeply religious, they had rather different ideas about what their religion meant. The Dianic Witch tended to believe that Witchcraft was a religion especially suited to women because the image of the Goddess was empowering and a strong weapon against patriarchal tyranny. And there was distrust in the heart of the Dianic Witch for the Traditionalist Witch because, from the Feminist perspective, the Traditionalist Witch seemed subversive and a threat to "the Cause." The Traditionalist Witch tended to believe that Witchcraft was a religion for both men and women because anything less would be divisive. And although the Goddess was worshipped, care was taken to give equal stress to the God-force in nature, the Horned One. And there was distrust in the heart of the Traditionalist Witch for the Dianic Witch because, from the Traditionalist viewpoint, the Dianic Witch seemed like a latecomer and a threat to "Tradition". These two Witches lived in the same community but each belonged to a different Coven, so they did not often run into one another. Strange to say, the few times they did meet, they felt an odd sort of mutual attraction, at least on the physical level. But both recognized the folly of this attraction, for their ideologies were worlds apart, and nothing, it seemed, could ever bridge them.

Then one year the community decided to hold a Grand Sabbat, and all the Covens in the area were invited to attend. After the rituals, the singing, the magicks, the feasting, the poetry, and dancing were concluded, all retired to their tents and sleeping bags. All but these two. For they were troubled by their differences and couldn't sleep. They alone remained sitting by the campfire while all others around them dreamed. And before long, they began to talk about their differing views of the Goddess. And, since they were both relatively inexperienced Witches, they soon began to argue about what was the "true" image of the Goddess. "Describe your image of the Goddess to me," challenged the Dianic Witch. The Traditionalist Witch smiled, sighed, and said in a rapt voice, "She is the embodiment of all loveliness. The quintessence of feminine beauty. I picture her with silver-blond hair like moonlight, rich and thick, falling down around her soft shoulders. She has the voluptuous young body of a maiden in her prime, and her clothes are the most seductive, gossamer thin and clinging to her willowy frame. I see her dancing like a young elfin nymph in a moonlit glade, the dance of a temple priestess. And she calls to her lover, the Horned One, in a voice that is gentle and soft and sweet, and as musical as a silver bell frosted with ice. She is Aphrodite, goddess of sensual love. And her lover comes in answer to her call, for she is destined to become the Great Mother. That is how I see the Goddess." The Dianic Witch hooted with laughter and said, "Your Goddess is a Cosmic Barbie Doll! The Jungian archetype of a cheerleader! She is all glitter and no substance. Where is her strength? Her power? I see the Goddess very differently. To me, she is the embodiment of strength and courage and wisdom. A living symbol of the collective power of women everywhere. I picture her with hair as black as a monocles night, cropped short for ease of care on the field of battle. She has the muscular body of a woman at the peak of health and fitness. And her clothes are the most practical and sensible, not slinky cocktail dresses. She does not paint her face or perfume her hair or shave her legs to please men's vanities. Nor does she do pornographic dances to attract a man to her. For when she calls to a male, in a voice that is strong and defiant, it will be to do battle with the repressive masculine ego. She is Artemis the huntress, and it is fatal for any man to cast a leering glance in her direction. For, although she may be the many-breasted Mother, she is also the dark Crone of wisdom, who destroys the old order. That is how I see the Goddess." Now the Traditionalist Witch hooted with laughter and said, "Your Goddess is the antithesis of all that is feminine! She is Yahweh hiding behind a feminine mask! Don't forget that it was his followers who burned Witches at the stake for the "sin" of having "painted faces." After all, Witches with their knowledge of herbs were the ones who developed the art of cosmetics. So what of beauty? What of love and desire?" And so the argument raged, until the sound of their voices awakened a coven Elder who was sleeping nearby.

The Elder looked from the Dianic Witch to the Traditionalist Witch and back again, saying nothing for a long moment. Then the Elder suggested that both Witches go into the woods apart from one another and there, by magick and meditation, that each seek a "true" vision of the Goddess. This they both agreed to do. After a time of invocations, there was a moment of perfect stillness. Then a glimmer of light could be seen in the forest, a light shaded deepest green by the dense foliage. Both Witches ran toward the source of the radiance. To their wonder and amazement, they discovered the Goddess had appeared in a clearing directly between them, so that neither Witch could see the other. And the Traditionalist Witch yelled "What did I tell you!" at the same instant the Dianic Witch yelled "You see, I was right!" and so neither Witch heard the other. To the Dianic Witch, the Goddess seemed to be a shining matrix of power and strength, with courage and energy flowing outward. The Goddess seemed to be holding out her arms to embrace the Dianic Witch, as a comrade in arms. To the Traditionalist Witch, the Goddess seemed to be the zenith of feminine beauty, lightly playing a harp and singing a siren song of seduction. Energy seemed to flow towards her. And she seemed to hold out her arms to the Traditionalist Witch, invitingly. From opposite sides of the clearing, the Witches ran toward the figure of the Goddess they both loved so well, desiring to be held in the ecstasy of that divine embrace. But just before they reached her, the apparition vanished. And the two Witches were startled to find themselves embracing each other. And then they both heard the voice of the Goddess. And, oddly enough, it sounded exactly the same to both of them. It sounded like laughter.

Fun Friday--In the Interest of So-Called Religious Practices

IN THE INTEREST OF SO-CALLED RELIGIOUS PRACTICES

Definition of athesim: a non-prophet organization

Why settle for the lesser of two evils?

If the Goddess is watching us, the least we can do is be entertaining.

Never invoke the gods unless you want them to appear.
It annoys them very much.

When you do a good deed, get a receipt in case the Otherworld is like the IRS.

I am an agnostic Pagan.
I doubt the existance of many of the gods.

And on the eighth day, the Goddess said
"All right you humans, take over."
Go thou and sin more creatively next time.

That was Zen, this is Zao.

Sects, sects. sects.

Is that all you Catholic Priests think about?

In a crisis, call for Isis!

Give me that old time religion. Hail Zeus!

Freedom OF religion includes freedom FROM religion.

I didn't believe in reincarnation in my last life, either.

On the sixth day, the Goddess created the platypus and said
"Let's see the evolutionists try to figure this out."

Birth, life, death. Repeat as necessary.

I don't care WHO you are.
You're not walking on the water while I'm fishing.

A diagnostic is someone who doesn't know whether there are two gods. Or anything else.

The gods like to see atheists around. Gives them something to aim at.

As long as there are tests, there will be prayer in schools.

And it came to pass that in the hands of the ignorant, the words of the great books were used to beat plowshares into swords.

I am ready to meet my Goddess.
Whether She is ready to meet me, is another matter.

A priest, a rabbi and a minister walk into a bar.
The bartender says. "What is this, some kind of a joke?"

The Goddess is a comedian, playing to an audience afraid to laugh too loudly.

Confession without repentance is just bragging.

Everytime someone predicts the end of the world, the gods push back the date a little, just to be funny.

I don't doubt YOUR existance. Signed, The Goddess.

Elder's Meditation of the Day

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"Let us put our minds together as one."

-- Irving Powless, Sr., ONONDAGA

If we sat in a circle and put an object in the center of the circle and we all described what we saw, everyone would see different points of view from each other. Some would even see opposites because they would be sitting on opposite sides of the circle. In other words, you don't have to see what I see for you to be right. In fact, everyone in the circle is right based on their own point of view. If we are willing to listen to everyone's point of view, then we can get a more accurate description of the object in the center. This is one way to put our minds together. When we get the clarity from each other, we should give thanks and be grateful to each other.

How to Tell if Your Neighbor is a Witch

How To Tell If Your Next-Door Neighbor is a Witch

Fifty surefire ways to detect Paganism without having to resort to a
dunking stool or wart-inspection.
By Andie Gilmour

1) Never puts any trash out on garbage-collection day. I mean, recycling
and composting is fine, but you can take it too far.

2) You casually ask what phase the moon is in, and she tells you down to the
exact number of days, hour and minute of rising, position on horizon, and
current angle of declination.

3) All the stray cats in the neighborhood tend to congregate in her garden
(and use your own as their litter).

4) A screech owl has chosen the lamppost outside her house as its favorite
calling-post. That's just when it's getting warm at night and you like to
sleep with the window open.

5) Doesn't cut down the weeds in her garden; in fact it looks more like
she's cultivating them. Needless to say, you get the seeds wafting over onto
your pristine lawn.

6) Most of her clothes on the washing line are black.

7) The local kids talk in whispers as they go past her house, then start
running at the last moment.

8) Nobody trick-or-treats her house; not after the incident when the kids'
costumes were less scary than hers when she opened the door to them. (She
was embracing the Crone that year no doubt!)

9) Footprints on the roof. And the trees in her flight-path have been pruned
down. I swear it's true!

10) She can't even make a simple sandwich without adding fresh herbs to it.
And don't ask her for a cup of tea unless you want something yellow colored
and smelling of flowers.

11) She hardly ever gets junk mail. You ask her what her secret is and she
confides that she returns it to sender after writing something on in strange
curly writing.

12) When you pop next door for a chat, the kettle is always already on.

13) The Jehovah's Witnesses never call (not anymore; not after the last
time).

14) Keeps the local scented-candle shop solvent.

15) Has a pond full of frogs (and you haven't seen that bothersome
double-glazing salesman around for a while).

16) She's always smiling, darn her!

17) She goes dressed as normal to a Halloween fancy dress party; and wins
first prize.

18) Her house always smells of incense.

19) Has named her four cats Astarte, Kali, Diana, and Moonbeam. (Or her
rats Devon and Cornwall)

20) Her bumper sticker reads "I brake for toads."

21) Frequently gets raided by the drug squad who confiscate large amounts of
dried green leaves; they always return them with apologies after analysis.

22) At Yule, it seems like half the garden has been moved into the
house.

23) You sometimes hear the sound of singing and dancing through the wall. If
you look out of the window, it is usually a full moon.

24) She was given a bodhram drum for her birthday. And she plays it at
midnight in the fields. And she's got a blasted tambourine.

25) You discover that her realistic resin skull ornament in her living room,
actually is real.

26) You catch her washing a crystal ball along with the dishes.

27) She wears a lot of silver jewelry, even when doing the gardening. And
bat earrings for goodness-sake.

28) You knock on her door and she answers it naked except for a robe.
You apologize for disturbing her in the bath, but notice that her hair
isn't wet.

29) Irritating tendency to hum a lot. What's she got to be so happy about,
huh?

30) She has a tame robin that will eat from her hand in the garden. That
can't be natural.

31) Never catches a cold, even though she walks barefoot most of the time.
In the snow as well.

32) Doesn't kill spiders. Not even big hairy long-legged ones that suddenly
appear from the waste-pipe whilst you're having a bath.

33) She listens to what you are saying like she really cares.

34) She has lots of female friends who come round every months When you
ask what they get up to, she tells you that they just have cakes and ale.

35) You catch her hugging a tree.

36) Her dinnerware is decorated with Celtic patterns.

37) She has a mail-order account with a semiprecious gem wholesaler.

38) You notice that the parish priest crosses himself whenever he
walks past her house.

39) She never watches television. And she has shelves full of books with
black spines and silver-lettered titles.

40) To your certain knowledge she has never set foot in the local church.

41) She makes jars of mandrake relish for the Unitarian yard sale.

42) You ask to borrow a pack of cards for an impromptu bridge evening, and
there are 78 in the pack.

43) You have never known her to visit a doctor.

44) When you talk with her, she maintains eye contact all the time.

45) Expectant mothers are forever visiting her. Also women who become
expectant mothers a month after visiting her.

46) You ask her for suggestions for nice walks in the area, and they all go
by way of stone circles and strange earth mounds.

47) She only buys organic. And you just bet that she's a vegetarian as well.
(Well, maybe not strictly vegetarian....)

48) When you ask her about her vacation plans, she tells you she will be
camping in a teepee.

49) There aren't any mirrors in her house. Or clocks.

50) She tells you that she is coming out of the broom closet, joins Witches'
Voice, and erects a stained-glass pentacle window in her front door. Ooo
what a giveaway!

Warmth of the Sun Ritual

Warmth of the Sun Ritual

Summer is at its height right now. It is a perfect time to take advantage of the deep heat of the Sun for magical ritual. Go outside today and turn your face, with your eyes closed, to the Sun. Feel the warmth, and see the light passing through your eyelids. Visualize the light flowing down into your body. As it fills you to overflowing, it brings health and vitality to your every cell. See this light flow into the land around you. Visualize a small Sun beginning to form in the center of your body. Feel this expand and glow as the warmth and energy of the Sun in the sky merges with your personal energy. The radiance extends out beyond your body in a protective oval of light. You are connected to all things. Repeat this ritual any time you feel drained, depressed, or ill.

Working With the Four Winds

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Working With the Four Winds

North Wind: Color is black. Element is Earth. Symbolizes change,
death- as in elimination of negativity. The North Wind is cold and barren. It is best for freeing one of negative influences, bad habits, or for destruction of forces that cause negativity. Not recommended for
fertility or prosperity rituals. It is ruled by the hour of midnight.

East Wind: Color is white. Element is Air. Symbolizes freshness,
warmth, beginnings. Best for dramatic improvements, esp. concerning
the mind or attitude. Bad for love rituals. Ruled by the hour of
sunrise.

South Wind: Color is yellow. Element is Fire. Symbolizes
purification, heat, stimulation. Ruled by the Sun, the best hour for magick is high noon. Good for all types of magick except black; as the saying goes, if you play with fire, you might get burned.

West Wind: Color is blue. Element is Water. Symbolizes moist, cool,
fertile, gentle, persuasiveness, healing and cleansing. Best for love
and healing rituals. Ruled by the hour of twilight.

It is not necessary to wait for the proper wind to blow for the type
of magick you want to perform; however, it can be a handy natural tool to use as an extra push toward your goal. You can find the wind's
direction via weather vane, or windsock. The direction the vane or sock points is the opposite of the wind's direction - i.e., if it is pointing South, the wind is blowing North. The author suggests making your own windsock by simply taking a long strip of cloth and tying it to a stake or object where it can flow freely in the wind. Wind magick is best practiced outdoors, where the wind truly affects your work. Note that if you are working indoors, and doing something "against the wind"(i.e., prosperity magick during a North wind), it should not have an adverse effect on your work, unless you have purposely invoked the help of the winds.
