Initiation in the Aeon of the Child - Sydney

J. Daniel Gunther is here in Sydney for this very special workshop event, "Initiation in the Aeon of the Child".

J. Daniel Gunther is a teacher highly respected and revered by his students and peers alike. Considered one of the world's few genuine authorities on the doctrines of Thelema, his lectures and presentations have been hailed as dynamic revelations of Thelemic doctrine, while his engaging question and answer sessions demonstrate his collegial approach and sincere commitment to student learning.

A member of the A∴A∴ for over thirty years, his first book Initiation in the Aeon of the Child: the Inward Journey brought to the public for the first time many of the teachings and instructions of the A∴A∴, and offered a new audience the transmitted doctrinal insights and revelations of the first World Teacher of the New Aeon since Aleister Crowley. He is a standing member on the Editorial Board of The Equinox. This will be Daniel's first visit to Australia.

His program in Sydney offers Aspirants to the Magick, Mysticism and Mysteries of Thelema, and students of esotericism, Freemasonry, mythology, psychology, and religion in general, an exciting opportunity to proceed through a progressive learning journey in an interactive and friendly environment, hosted by the O.T.O.

Taxation dept may finally recognise Paganism as a valid religion

Greetings,
Apologies for any cross posting but this is potentially important for all Pagan groups in Australia. I thought you all might like to know of the hopeful breakthrough in terms of recognition of Paganism with the Australia Taxation office. Fingers crossed everyone please for a positive outcome hopefully by the end of October as it has ramifications and potential benefits for all Pagan groups.
In September 2009, on behalf of the Community Church of Inclusive Wicca Inc. incorporated in South Australia, I applied for the tax concession under the charitable institution clause. Almost all religious groups have the right to apply to for this tax concession as a charity where their activities meet the ATO guidelines. However no Pagan group has ever been granted this concession before because the ATO has not up until this point recognised Paganism as a valid religion under the existing interpretation of the taxation laws.
After more than a year, we are almost at the end of the process (which usually only takes a few weeks for "established" religions) and are now waiting for final sign off by the big honchos at the tax dept. The taxation employee who has been working on our case has done considerable research from around the world about how international tax depts. view paganism and she has been sensational. The recent decision about Druidism in England helped our cause as did the legal case in our own eastern states some years ago which declared Paganism as a valid religion. However, for ATO purposes our case sets a precedent in Australia and if accepted, it will open the flood gates for other Pagan groups to seek ATO taxation concession as charities. It will mean that the ATO must acknowledge Paganism as a valid religion for the purposes of taxation law.
So I would respectfully ask you all to send positive energy for acceptance of this ATO claim, not just for CCIWI, but so that all Pagan groups can have the same taxation privileges that other religious groups have. It's one more strike for religious equality.
Smiles, Amethyst

Congratulations Amethyst (I hope).

In the future you might need a tax-deductible PR consultant to help
put together press releases (joke).

I do have a few serious questions though.

Does this mean you will be recognised as a pagan religious
institution? What do you feel this will mean for "Community Church of
Inclusive Wicca Inc."?

You mention that the "...ATO has not up until this point recognised
Paganism as a valid religion under the existing interpretation of the
taxation laws". What has changed to help make the difference.

I'm sure the pagan community at large, as well as others who do run
various pagan church and community groups are going to be very
interested in supporting this.
