This is the day of the great Greek festival called the Thesmophoria, a festival
of mothering reborn this century when the Catholic Church named this day to be
the feast of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin. In Greece, the Goddess
Demeter was honored on this day, under her alternative name of Thesmosphorus,
"law-giver." It was her role to help the crops to grow again in spring, and to
prepare for such growth, pigs were sacrificed to her by being thrown into
chasms in the earth. Then the composted remains of the previous year's
offerings were brought forth and mixed with seeds for planting.

Those of us who do not live close to the earth sometimes forget that we need to
nurture new growth with the soil of what is past. All our experiences form
compost for our souls, from which new insights and new love can grow. We must
be patient with our inner changes, knowing that new growth will break through
in time.

County PA.

Her interests range from Women's Empowerment, otherworld beings, nature divas,
green magick, kitchen witchery, shamanism, ceremonial magick, martial arts,
warriorship and sweatlodge.

Maggi has a BA Degree in Fine Art and Anthropology from Salisbury University.
She moved from MD to NJ in 2008 and lives with her husband and two cats in

What is the meaning of Jack-o-Lantern? Why do we carve out faces on pumpkins
and why do we leave them out during Samhain/Halloween? What does it symbolize?
Would you use a fake pumpkin and would using a painted pumpkin be just as good?
Does anyone know or would like to tell us the history of Jack-o-lanterns?

Do you have a secret wish to be someone/something or admire someone and would
love to wear a costume of this person but too shy to do it, worrying about what
others might think, if you can't wear your costume you always dreamed of, how
about telling us your secret costume. Who knows, maybe it will make you brave
enough to actually get your wish and wear that costume you always wanted and if
not, at least have fun talking about it!

Samhain is also called the Day of the Dead, All Soul'd Day, and Halloween, we
have fesivals and gatherings with family and friends to honor our ancestors and
all those who have passed in our lives. During Samhian, it is said that the
spirits of the dead revisit us and the crack between the worlds are a thin
veil, How do you talk to your kids, do you tell stories and share memories of
your ancestors?

How can we honor our ancestors and talk or teach our kids about Samhain?
