Prayers and healing sought on large scale

MM friends,

A forest fire, the worst ever in the history of Israel, is still raging
today in 'the north' (Carmel/Haifa area). Thousands upon thousands of acres
of forest, which we were never over-endowed with to begin with because this
country is mostly desert, have been destroyed - which means also the habitat
for untold numbers of wildlife, assuming they even got out in time or had
where to go because the fire broke out in so many areas. There has also
been loss of human life, most notably 40 prison-warden trainees who had gone
there to help evacuate inmates of a prison in the area. They lost their
lives while on the way to save other people's. Some fire-fighters and
Haifa's chief of police, who was in right alongside her officers 'on the
ground', are hospitalised in critical condition. In short, one of this
country's worst disasters, certainly the worst natural one, with terrible
ecological consequences. Help has been coming from various countries of the
world in the form of planes, helicopters, and/or fire-suppressant chemicals
which Israel had run out of altogether, so let's hope an end is in sight.
I have tears running down my face as I write this, heartbroken, first for
the trees and wildlife when it all started (yesterday), then later for the
humans whose lives also got destroyed. Please send any prayers and healing
energies you can for those who have been hurt or killed or lost their homes,
from the trees and birds and animals, to the humans who were all there
trying to help others.

BB,
Miki

You got it. Whatever I have to give, it's there. The Middle East holds a
place of warmth in my heart because of friends and relatives who live
there.

Thank you, Joi and Fran.

So many people and animals lost their lives or their homes, that my heart
just bleeds for them. Not to mention the estimated 3 million trees that
died, in a country that reveres trees but doesn't have many in its
landmass. Here it's common to do things like planting trees for someone's
birthday, or in memoriam, and there's also a holiday for the trees (Tu
b'Shvat). Our only forested areas are in the Galilee and Golan, and we've
just lost an estimated 30,000 dunams and the fire is still blazing. There
are high winds that keep changing direction.

Other countries, including Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Russia, Bulgaria, and
more have offered help in the form of planes or helicopters, and by tomorrow
there should be fire retardant chemicals here because our own supply ran out
over 24 hours ago. Pres. Obama also offered support. Israel has always
reached out with aid after earthquakes and other natural disasters abroad,
even to non-friendly countries, and it's heartwarming to see that when we're
on the needful end, there are those that answer the need. Even Turkey, in
spite of the diplomatic upset when Israel raided that supposed aid-ship to
Gaza (which was armed to the teeth, far more than reported in the press - I
know the mother of one of the soldiers involved and heard things that never
reached the press). The (foreign aid) planes are grounded for the night,
and I just hope that tomorrow they manage to put out the fire and prevent
further loss of life, homes, and habitat.

There's a nature reserve there that was breeding near-extinct or endangered
animals once indigenous to the region with an eye to eventually
reintroducing them to the wild. They had to open their gates and let out
their animals so that they wouldn't burn to death, but the animals are not
familiar with the adjacent territory nor with living on their own in the
wild, otherwise they'd have already been released in a planned manner. The
tragedy just touches so many things, in so many ways... Our PM said
yesterday that it was a day of national mourning, but couldn't be taken off
to mourn because all hands had to be on deck to fight the fire and deal with
the situation. He probably referred mainly to the human lives and homes
lost, but it's really very much more far-reaching than that. Unlike
California fires, where many homes affected belong to wealthy folk, the
people in the Carmel area were dwellers of kibbutzes (agricultural
cooperatives) and similar, or suburbs of Haifa. Some lost everything, and in
fires of course even if you have insurance and can buy many things again, so
many possessions are priceless because their value is sentimental and those
things can never be replaced. No insurance company or government
compensation plan can give those people back what they lost, nor the animals
(wildlife or domestic) or trees.

BB,
Miki

Miki, I have seen this on the news, and it breaks my heart. I feel connected to the Middle East by my love of their culture. Sending healing thoughts and prayers.

Thank you, Lady Nightshayde.

There's one spot of bright news in all this: The big nature reserve for
rare/endangered wildlife, Hai-Bar Carmel, seems to have saved most of its
animals. Raptors were shipped to Tel Aviv on the first night of the fire,
and they've managed to protect most or maybe even all of the mammals. The
fire is still raging, however, destroying more trees and habitats and
homes. Over 40,000 dunams now gone. Russia sent the world's largest
fire-fighting plane that is now in the sky pouring 42,000 tonnes of water
each load, and other countries have provided aircraft and the US will be
sending fire-retardant chemicals.

A video of this performance was posted on YouTube and
received more than 3.1 million hits in just 10 days.
In case you have not seen that video, a clear version is at

And here is the Philadelphia Opera performing in the 5 story
Philadelphia Macy's accompanied by Macy's HUGE cathedral organ.

Fantastic! I love Handel's Messiah in spite of its being Christian - the
music is simply awe-inspiring. These flash mobs seem such a joyful, giving
experience to spring on people about their everyday affairs, very nice
indeed.
